Power fantasies attract people who aren't very self aware so it's not a surprise that they are so often sour. But (especially outside the context of anime where people are touchy about genre) I think it's less often that people are dismissive of good power fantasies that they don't even recognize a well executed power fantasy as a power fantasy.

I think what you’ve done here is note three ways you can insert a protagonist-favoring curbstomp battle into a narrative without becoming a power fantasy in the first place. 😅
    1. Frame it as part of the denouement.
    2. Change POV to someone who isn’t powerful.
    3. Make the challenge concurrent with but not identical to the curbstomp battle.
In all cases there’s a protagonist who IS challenged, but there’s some sleight of hand going on. Well, it’s only sleight of hand to someone who is overly focused on the literal details of the plot, who can’t see the forest for the trees.
I wrote way too much about this and tried to leave only the CliffsNotes version. 😅 I sure hope comments help you acquire the blessing of the algorithm. I don’t want to be wasting your time as well as mine! 😂😭

Man this show looks really good, I ought to watch it with my friend some time, I keep meaning to watch shows with my best friend and then forgetting to.
Anyway, my view on these kinds of power fantasy stories is that there's two ways to really hype up a power fantasy character. The first being to not make them the viewpoint character. MGS2 did this with Raiden (to mixed success) because the only way they figured they could make Solid Snake seem as cool and badass as he was supposed to be while still keeping any stakes was to see him through the eyes of a newbie.
The second, as seen here, is to make it into a horror story, and have both characters and viewers be confronted with the kind of terror that a pure power fantasy character would pose if they had any kind of actual characteristics beyond "generic dude" and you were the one on the recieving end

I completely agree. I still dislike Solo Leveling but those scenes are better than other power fantasies. As the story goes on at least in the webcomic I lost interest pretty quickly after a few more fights.

Your arguments about smartphone isekai continue to be garbage
" This power fantasy show sucks because we just see the MC win and other characters react to him "
