What if you clear the castle of mirelurks before Preston Garvey asks?

- Have you ever wondered what would happen if you cleared the castle of mirelurks and their queen before Preston Garvey even asked for help? That's how the dialogue unfolds if you don't clear the castle beforehand. But what if you completely clear the castle on your own in advance? I decided to test it. So, I headed straight to the outskirts of South Boston to find the place. It wasn't difficult, and once I arrived, I started eliminating all the mirelurks that had settled there. There were quite a few of them, but I managed to kill them all. After that, I went on to destroy the eggs of these creatures to provoke the mirelurk queen into a fight. After a great roar, the creature finally revealed itself, and killing it was quite challenging, but I succeeded. Then I headed straight to Preston Garvey, and here's what happened.
I love it when games do this instead of respawning all the enemies. It makes the game more immersive
Yeah I wanted to do the same thing in Hogwarts legacy sadly it didn't work
@@hungry_lamagame was beat
Iv actually never played a game that didn't do this because that area was locked because you needed a quest or something
@@hungry_lamajo moma a "hogwart" 😂
Would have been cool if like some random raiders took interest of the place after you cleared it and before Preston got there. Free base that's already been taken care of sounds like a delight for raiders.
“Anyways, there’s another settlement that needs our help”
Damn it Preston!
Fr! I have 6 assigned by Preston on top of 14 other quests 😭😭. Let me finish a quest dammit
If you got lucky, you get to fight the elite synth or defend the settlement
Plot twist, I already cleared that too.

"All by yourself?"
Yeah Garvey, just like everything else in the commonwealth
I remember realizing I could unlock all the settlements before "When Freedom Calls" and did just that so Garvey would stfu and not bother me while I was modding me gear or cooking some chems 😂
@@PardonSylver I figured out in my first playthrough nothing at all was keeping me in Sanctuary. I relocated my main base to Red Rocket, and later to Home Plate. Preston can't mark shit on your map if he can't find you!
To be fair he was willing to help
@@adamb89 People confused that he has no more missions if you don't complete the ones recieved
Let's be honest, nothing would get done without player intervention. NCR owes its existence to VD and Chosen one, BoS owes its Enclave extermination and PR of the Capital Wasteland to Lone Wanderer and Mojave owes its freedom/problem solving to Courier.
"Seriously? All by yourself?"
"Yeah, because you guys helped me out SO MUCH on those settlement gigs. Get real."
You could always use a flare gun but that rarely works until later in the game 😂
@@funnyvalentine5074can you explain it?
@@coin6165 With the flare gun you can call a support team of minutemen from a nerby settlement and at the time you have enough settlements under your controll, you dont need them anymore.
Same for the artillery support, you have to build artillery in the settlements to use it, but it comes with a delay und all the explosions makes it hard to loot the place afterwards.
@@coin6165Preston hands u a flare gun and says that if you use it, it will attract nearby minutemen to help you. Butttt it’s meh

I do love the “that place? Yeah I finished that hours ago” in games. Makes slinging everything in the world before starting any quests a little funnier when people ask you to do something and you just have the mcguffin on hand
For me it's always funny because I get side tracked so easily doing random stuff in these games then when I talk to someone and they ask me to do something I did by accident it's like "I wasn't sidetracked I was clearly planning ahead"
"You wouldn't happen to habe a crate of spare toy parts on you, right?"

I am reminded of Doric's Quest in OSRS
i literally did everything in the game before talking to Preston.

This is the Bethesda I like, wish they put this much effort into starfield
I did something like this on skyrim with the companion quests. I ended up killing these 3 sabertooths and the quest line bugged out on me and the cats wouldn't respawn so I just had the quest in menu waiting to be completed.
@@DudicalMcNikejordanairre-sj5hjI wanted to do a 100% survival round on XBOX. Guess what happened? Neloth quest where i had to find his assistant got glitched. She went to the ocean and i had no chance reaching it. After that and lost 69 hours i decided to do 100% but not in survival and with exploits. If you ask. In that 69 hours almost nailed everything on solstheim(except Neloth quests),finished the Dark brotherhood questline, gathered soul gems and cleared a bunch of places to get my enchanting to high lvl fast and also made a lot of Iron daggers.
You said that and the first thing you did is speedrun breaking the game in tutorial
Starfileld ws rushed, still fun, but they put yoo much detail in some areas and lacked detail in many other areas. They relied too heavily on the ai planet generation
They did.
The best thing about Bethesda games is their attempt and organizing all of the quest threads like this.
Yeah but not in skyrim.
@@DudicalMcNikejordanairre-sj5hjin some cases Skyrim do the same thing, for example in one of the first quest(the one that you need to aquire a cristall and can found a shout) can be done before taking the quest and have a special interaction where you say "Oh, i already have it".

"The Railroad doesn't call me Fixer for nothing."
In my every playthrough, i destroy the Railroad. Is the first thing i do. Second, wipe out BoS.
Then finish with Institute lead and Minutemen as police and protection force, both factions in my complete control, to be sure all behave.
@@UmbraFulgurtbh I always thought since i become the absolute leader why is the institute evil when i can change it and make it better, also the railroad is mad annoying i almost always kill them and same with the brotherhood but i almost always leave the minute men the last faction
@GrapoTheRatKing the railroad has awesome stuff for stealth players. The deliverer and ballistic weave are the shit. If you don't play on survival and just run and gun with power armor on the railroad may not matter to you.
"thats the best news I've heard in a while," he said completely monotone.
"Hey, there's another settlement that needs your help. I've marked it on the map for you"
He lost the ability to get excited since the war
Please note that if you clear it out first all the mud, egg clutch nests and overgrowth will remain, where as clearing it out with the Minutemen it gets cleaned up afterwords.
Sounds like a bug because they cleaned it up for me and I cleared the place first
Even so, surely the Scrap All mod would clean it up.
Yeah, I had to use STS to clean it up on one of my files, which I wont complain about because it added extra resources.
I noticed that and it was annoying. I thought the game was glitched. But the game was glitched anyways. LOL
Oh this glitches for me on a playthrough and I had done it through the quest, wo seems like a random bug
I took Preston with me to clear it out before the quest is triggered and the 3 minutemen ended up walking in like they were outside waiting the whole time and Preston asked me to fix the radio
Funniest shit ever read in a comment
Ive found so much stuff like this experimenting with this game and most of the time, Bethesda thought of it and put it in. It really is insane the amount of work they put into this game.
Clearing the castle on survival difficulty was the most satisfying thing in all of my fallout gaming
Damn, I can imagine. It was no joke on hard.
It was a pain in the ass in very hard, and with fatman and missile launcher. Cant imagine Survival
Amazing that they included dialogue for this
Tbh it's not all that amazing. Oblivion and Fallout 3 had so many more dialogue trees with the quest lines. What's in the video was the most basic bare bones stuff.
There is even dialog with Codworth if you bypass Sacturary and best the game and come back to talk to him, you cal tell him exactly what happened.
It's really, really not. This is the bare minimum of effort anyone should put into a game they plan to market as a RPG.
@@jordandrukqsz4026 The fact that you people think that Oblivion and f*cking Fallout 3 are the epitome of storytelling seriously makes me want to cry.
You want dialogue trees and acition/consequence based gameplay? Try Fallout 1-2, Neverwinter Nights 1-2, DA: Origins, Tyranny, even Mass Effect 1-2 blows any Bethesda game out of the water any day of the week.
I cleared out a raider outpost without realising that i was apart of a settlement problem and they too were surprised and thanked me like 3 times lol😂
I cleared out satellite station Olivia on my way to Tenpines Bluff and got a locket I was supposed to retrieve as part of a settlement quest.
I got so excited cuz I got a mighty 10mm from somewhere and I wanted to test it out only for Nate to go "Yeah I already did that." 😂
I once rescued a settler before I got the mission to save them, like i just went through a random area for some loot on the way back to sanctuary and saved a guy and when when I talked to Preston to get the mission I basically got the prompt to tell him I had already rescued them.
@@samvanroon5041 I did a similar one as well LoL🤣

@@PardonSylver I already knew that one, so I like to go to Abernathy farm in something a bit more dress blues-ey. A little more shining armor and less edgy merc mc mercface!
I love this in games, if you do something before being told too, you get different diolog, like if you get the powercore when meeting The Minutemen, you can tell them you already have it or if you get a suit of power armor before meeting them, you get different diolog there too, its awesome
These tiny little details are so cool, I wish more games did this
But the elitists constantly bash Bethesda yet they're always here on every video they must not be THAT bad lol.
Thing is i did that by complete accident my first play through i was exploring saw the castle and my first thought was what can go wrong died a first couple of times got frustrated but was stubborn and manage to succeed in the end lmao
U have that go getter attitude.
@YOURpopsINthe305 I succeeded killing the regular Mirelurks but the queen was the problem that was until I found the rocket launcher inside and I had some extra ammo from Diamond city and Good neighbor which helped so yeah struggled but succeeded after two hours of dying repeatedly
"Oh and while you're here I found a settlement that I need you to babysit, a poor man stubbed his toe and he can't handle it"
I actually clear it and set up a settlement before telling him, and run like hell after he gets there and wants to let me know that another settlement needs our help. You have to run fast because he doesn't even stop for a breath after congratulations on getting the castle and telling you a settlement needs help.
"..and I'll meet you there."

The fact that these dialogue options are available in the fallout series is why I love fallout so much

i avoid preston by sending him to his own settlement. alone. peace. maybe he'll go insane and forget that another settlement needs my help.
I always assumed the queen would only spawn during the quest. Very interesting.
Another fire video!
All of that for a "thanks mate".
I love how this game has so many dialog interactions for varying gameplay scenarios.
“Really? All by yourself?”
“Preston, even though I’m the General I’ve been clearing all by myself several raider encampments, multiple Super-mutant hordes, at least a dozen SuperDuperMarts worth of ghouls and at least a bunch of Deathclaws. Not once did I see one Minutemen while doing this, so kindly shut your mouth.”
Gotta hand it to the devs. They really thought of every situation
You did that all yourself alone, well then, perhaps you'd be able to help us with this settlement.
I absolutely love how every decision matters in some sort of way in this game
This is what I love about this game , there's so many dialogue options and outcomes doing things differently than the normal gander
Building that fort is so much fun
That’s the most impressive things I’ve ever seen, but our work I never done, here I’ll mark it on your map general.
"Now walk back over there, and set up a radio signal that you'll immediately turn back off"
Funny enough I found the King during a quest
Best news he heard for a while? Forgot that the survivor killed deathclaw, saved them from raiders, introduced them to Sanctuary, and so on? Go help a settlement Preston, I'll mark it on YOUR map!
The best flex is beating everything before being asked
I like how with Fallout if you’ve already done something before you’re supposed to then it just rolls with it. Same if your unable to do something or forgot something it comes up with a different way to proceed.
Incredible how they went from THIS level of detail to Starfield...
its like when you grab everything of importance from bleak falls barrow right away
I love the freedom in this game and the fact that they voice recorded different outcomesz
Now I know what else my future planned playthrough of returning to Fallout 4 will include.
Credit where credit's due. I like how they had unique dialogue for this.
that helps me so much, just watching that was like playing it through that way instead of going back and doing it myself
I love completing quest objectives before starting the actual quest.
Love it when you clear something by just playing the game and then find out it's a side mission and it auto completes.
One drawback of this game is only the animation in and out of the room
Crazy how Preston gives the “general” of the minutemen orders
It's amazing how much they've taken into account without clearing the main quest of bugs.

It’s usually the same. Preston doesn’t seem to grasp the fact that you’ve already fixed the problem ahead of his schedule!

Game DEVS did more than what was expected
I unintentionally did this in my first run-through, I thought it was funny seeing Preston's reaction
VD: Hey Preston?
Preston: SETTLEMENT!
I remember doing this one time and I was like “Wow! So many little details”
“All by yourself??” *me standing there in my X-01 power armor and a fully upgraded gatling laser*: “yes..”
Garvey: Thanks for clearing out those settlements and rescuing those hostages.
LW: it was a lot of work but I had help doing the work of the Minutemen with non-minuteman companions.
Garvey: Since you got your hands bloody and did all the leg work I'm going to appoint you as leader of the Minutemen and then send you to do more grunt work.
LW: uh, okay
Garvey: By the way, clear out the castle.
LW: I already did that too. Listen, Mr. Minutemen Administrator/secretary, as General I'm ordering you to get your lazy but up and do some work of the Minutemen.
This deserves all the awards.

I did this unknowingly and was so stoked to find out the purpose of the castle
Honestly, I was expecting Fallout 4 to not spawn the Mirelurk Queen until the quest. Good Job for keeping in the world map.
This is exactly how I played FO4. I didn't do any quests (avoidable ones, not including meeting Preaton and gang mission) and just explored the entire map first. Then did all the quests.
"All by your lonesome?"
Yeah, like all the jobs I do for the Minutemen
I did this once on my 2nd playthrough, and it was when I had just started playing Fallout and RPG style games to begin with, and this blew me away
I remember collecting all the settlements in every location just to shut him up…he then made me go to locations I had and help them.
"seriously?, all by yourself??"
"bruh, who you think built all these houses, farms, and defenses for you"
I've done a lot of this in the game, including the castle. I like your clips, because I have had similar experiences.
I clear that place up and set the water, garden, houses, etc so ppl can just move in. Tbh, its easier than building around a bunch of awkward npcs.
Me when Ronnie Shaw shows up at the castle: Just give me the damn Last Minute Gauss rifle!
I lined that entire opening in the wall with about a dozen plasma mines. Mirelurk queen sushi.
I like how they clearly put the flammer there specifically to kill all the eggs, knowing mirelurk nests are the actual worst because of Bethesda's janky model collisions
