How to Crochet a Super Scarf for beginners

  • Learn how to crochet a big scarf! This is great for men and women. The video is slower paced and uses just two different stitches so it's great for beginners, but it doesn't look like a beginner scarf!
For this project, you'll need 2 skeins of Color Made Easy by Lion brand or any size 5 yarn and a 11.50/P size crochet hook. The written pattern is available on my blog www.gingerknots.com. I would love to see your finished projects! Tag me on Instagram @ginger.knots!
TIPS: If you decide not to count your starting chains, be sure to stretch your chains before you measure.
Hear noises in the background?? My fiance was cooking Thanksgiving dinner and I wasn't going to stop him!

Thank you for this video. I love the fact that when the title of your video has the word "beginners"... it truly is for beginners. I have seen other TH-camrs out there who say that their tutorials are for beginners but when you watch it, it is not. And it does not help that they add background music (which can be very distracting especially to a beginner). So thank you so much for making this video easy to follow and very clear. I'm going to subscribe shortly. :-)

Thank you so much for this tutorial! This is my first ever crochet project, and with your explanations I'm well on the way to making my own scarf. One thing I would love to see in the tutorial is how to change to a new ball of yarn when one runs out! I'm sure I can find it if I search, but would be nice if you went over that here since it's a big scarf and most people probably have to do it.
But once again, thanks. Very clear teaching.

Honestly, I love the way you describe the steps -- bunny ears and all. I'm attempting to make this scarf for a coworker who has become a good friend -- he's going into the hospital for treatment and I wanted him to have something soft, comforting, and home-made. If it goes well, I want to make one for my dad as a Christmas gift as well (he just lost my aunt, his baby sister). Somehow, home-made/handmade gifts feel right to me, I'm pretty terrible at buying gifts -- but it's like, if I make them, I give a little bit of my joy/time/care to them. Anyway, thank you for the tutorial and thank you for not making us beginners feel "guilty" about not liking counting starting chains.

I love this pattern! I am using double strands to crochet this Superscarf. It is a bulky scarf because I am using two strands together of I Love This Yarn Chunky , a variegated beige/brown tweedy look called Sandstone and a solid color called Sandfrost with the P Hook. But I am crocheting a chain to make the scarf 20 inches wide and then making it long , so the ridges go side to side rather than the length of the scarf. When you crochet the initial chain and all of the stitches very loosely, it makes a really soft scarf! It’s super bulky and will be super warm and it’s coming out beautifully. I just started tonight and you get far in a short time. It is a great tutorial. You make it so easy to follow, very clear showing how to crochet and where to put the stitches at a nice pace. Thank you! 😊💕 PS I am a new subscriber. 🧶

So just so I know, we start with a regular single crochet, then the 2nd row is a single crochet in the front loop only, and the rest of the repeat rows for the rest of the scarf is single crochet in the back loop only, correct? Also would this pattern still work if we did half or double crochet?

I love this pattern and look of scarf. Color Made Easy has been discontinued. I tried another 5 bulky yarn - Loops & Threads - and after first 3 rows, my scarf looks like Swiss cheese and it’s definitely not bulky. For some odd reason, finding 11.5mm hook is impossible?! I used 12mm hook, maybe that’s the reason? Or maybe yarn?! Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much for making this tutorial 😊 This is actually easy to follow for a beginner like me. I’ve watched many tutorials but this is the only one I was able to understand and follow easily ☺️ Thank you again ❤️

Scarf turned out very nice in the bulky yarn. Had not seen Color Made Easy used in anything before. Although I am an intermediate crocheter, review is always valuable:)

I've had it for a while and couldn't decide what to do. I'm really happy with how soft it is and how fast it works up!

tip for any beginners like me who are taking this up as their first project: careful not to make your stitches too tight/small. I just had to undo several hours of work because I was trying to make my stitches consistent but by the time it came to do the second row, I couldn't fit the hook in.

How many skins did you use when you created this scarf. I am thinking about getting back to crocheting and would like to know how much yarn I have to buy?

Hi! I’m a beginner crocheter and I’m wondering when you are making this big chunky scarf, why can’t you chain for the short side (the width) and then just keep making row after row until you get to the length you want? I need to make a king bed runner that is 48 inches wide and 105 inches long so since I can’t find a pattern to make it I don’t know how many to chain.

I just learned the chain and single stitch yesterday. Nervous to try this, but I'm going for it!

I love love love your tutorial! You taught me the best method for my starting slip knot, and I've made about 6 scarves so far using the pattern I've now memorized from this video. Thanks so much for this! I can never find the yarn you're using, so I just use a size 4 yarn for now.

Before following your video, I had never done any crocheting before, so I was a bit hesitant about starting. But I followed everything exactly and my scarf turned out perfect! I love it so much and it's so warm :) A few rows in, I had redo everything to adjust the tension for the first line of stitches because I was unhappy with how tight I had originally made it, but it was definitely worth it to start again having had that extra practice. All of your tips were so helpful and I really appreciated how you explained every step. Thank you so so much!!!!

I did mine horizontally instead of vertically and so it never really "ribbed" like yours. However I really liked how it turned out and I cannot wait to make another. THANKS! You explained it all and gave wonderful information that made it easy to follow, even with this being only my 2nd crochet project.

I'm coming here as a recommendation someone made on a video with millions of views but a horrible tutorial. I watched that tutorial 3 times, as slow as speed 0,5 and still I wasn't making it right. I understood with you that the edge stitches need to be done using both sides of the V. Thank you so much for this wonderful tutorial! I'm making a scarf for my husband 💚
