Just ordered my first ever electic car, a Niro 2 on contract lease for delivery around September this year. Watching this video cements the feeling I have made the right choice. The price point for the 2 was just right for me, the 3 might've put an extra 30 quid/month on the price. My quote for the 2 jumped by 20 quid as it was.... something to do with me ordering the first week of Jan. Anyway... roll on September!

Another great in depth review, having had an Eniro for a while now the only gripe is cabin noise or tyre roar as you put it - would you say that the Niro EV has improved in this area? Thanks again for a great review. i
Nice car but why do kia insist on putting the rear indicators down low in the bumper, far better to have them up higher and within the following drivers eyeline
I have to sort of agree with you Nigel, but it's not just Kia. Have you seen the pea-sized indicators on a Tesla Model 3? And I always failed to see the circular ones integrated around the brake lights of the L322 Range Rover. And as most people are braking as they are indicating, that was a big safety hazard in my book. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
Picking up my 3 next week by the dealer's estimate. Only test drove the thing a week ago but can't agree more with this review. Because of the price rises on the EV6, Model 3 and Ioniq 5, I think this new Niro is the best value EV currently on the market. Buzzing to drive it again when I pick mine up.
Enjoyed your review but after test driving it, I couldn’t justify the step over from my 2020 E Niro 4 to this new Niro EV 4 . The differences weren’t enough to justify the extra £12K after PX offered by Kia. Still as you say sub £40K it’s good value. Looking forward to the Ioniq 4 when it arrives.

Loved my test drive of the Niro EV 4 spec. Very accomplished. It looks good too. Only thing that put us off was lack of 360 parking cameras, which I would have thought should be standard on such an expensive and largish car, slightly too much scratchy hard plastic inside and rather uninspiring body colour schemes. I would have bought one there and then, but just those few little things put me off. I think when you’re spending so much money (42k+) then even small compromises make a difference. The Cupra Born, which I also took for a test drive, is the same price with a much plusher finish and great looks. Now if Cupra or SEAT did an SUV style EV like this KIA…..
Wow! Hello to you over in Hawaii! Thanks for watching and taking the time to share your thoughts on the car. It is a lovely car. Have you seen how it fares in our 2022 Awards? I think you may be happy!
Got kia e nero 64kw (3 )1 year left on pcp Only bad think is charging speed They have 1 year to up it or i jump ship to Mergain E 130kw raid 22kw type 2 Thats 100% more for same 40k ish
It is like a small EV6. I called into the dealership yesterday, and the New Nero EV was parked beside the EV6 (same colour too). They were so similar - good thing. AWD on the New Nero EV would be good.😊
In reviews from the USA the internal charger was stated to be 10.5 kW. In this video it is mentioned to be 7.5 kW. Is this the top of charging speed at home available in the UK?
Thank you for watching and taking the time to send us such a lovely comment. I’m glad you enjoyed the review! Yes, as soon as we can get our hands on the new Jeep Avenger we will be subjecting it to a full road test review. Make sure you subscribe so you know when it’s live.
Yes, there is that, but then it defaults back on when you start again. There needs to be a better solution in my opinion, but it doesn't spoil an excellent car.
Sorry if I missed it does it have 360 cameras like my Leaf has, plus Lane warning for blind spot ? Does it have heated / folding door mirrors. Thanks Bob Blood Kent England.
No it is not, unless you need extra boot space and some gadgets (ventilated seats, glass roof etc.). You sacrifice a huge improvement on DC speed (150 vs 83), LFP battery (5 times longer lifespan and %100 charging possible each time). These two in my opinion just kill it. MG 4 is the bestseller EV in the UK as far as I know.
Great review, many thanks! The car is in my short list but the only downside to me is the rear space - it doesn't look big enough for a RWF child seat for a 3-year-old while having a 180 cm person in the front. And it's all due to these integrated "coat hangers" in the front seats. And they don't look safe for adults in case of a front collision either.
@@Richard482 Please do compare the position of the front seat in the crash test: th-cam.com/video/hx1rsEBEu0E/w-d-xo.html with its position in this review: th-cam.com/video/rXRWZ_IEjZU/w-d-xo.html. Also the size of the dummy is a bit smaller than the reviewer's (check the relation of the head to the head rest). So still, I wouldn't like to have this chair in front of my face in case of a collision.
Would prefer not to have to switch modes between climate, fan etc and infotainment and navigation - as it is on the previous eNiro. Had a test drive yesterday and found the ride smoother but the acceleration a little less powerful. Not sure I like the large C pillar which restricts your view rearwards. Otherwise it a good looking car - better than previous model.
Hi. Are the seats all black fake leather? Or is that a grey colour in the middle? The old car was all black and I liked them seats. Great review of the car so thanks for that👍. It’s helped me for sure and I’m gonna go for a k4. Cheers.
Had my Niro HEV delivered this week and love it! Was upset to get rid of my A3 but I'm pleasantly surprised. Has anybody fitted a roof rack to theirs? Not keen on getting the bike in the back.
I liked the older model’s exterior styling better. Now I t’s like a dolphin went to Vegas - overly designed. The other thing is that there is too much going on and hard to figure it all out. I loved my 2022. It did take me a while to love it. I hope that happens with the 2024.
Maybe you can convince KIA to address the random keyless door button issue. It's been a problem since at least 2017 across all models. It's driving me NUTS, yet the dealership will not admit to a seven year defect. I keep bringing it in and they blame me for not pushing hard enough or long enough as if I'd never had keyless entry in my life. This is supposedly a small issue, but it's really, really, frustrating and will cause me to look elsewhere if they continue to kick the can down the road.
We have a 72 plate NiroEV 3. Our first EV. From the EV driving experience it’s just fine. Range is not a problem, performance is excellent, comfort and space is excellent, BUT, and it’s a massive BUT, the ‘tech’ is just full of glitches and bugs, parking sensors not working, front scanner’s forever ‘check your distance scanners’, check this, check that. Climate control both air con and heating failure. Local dealers been excellent in trying to resolve but it’s been sufficiently annoying and frustrating that we’ll take some convincing to consider Kia again
My Niro EV 4 is 11 days old and I’m already having issues. The car often (3 times so far) refuses to move into gear. It seem it’s immobilised! I turn the car off and lock it then go back a few minutes later and it will start ok. Not good for a car that cost 43k
Why oh why the silly headrests? I think the MG4 is now its main rival, especially considering the £10k difference in favour of the MG and MG also has a 7yr. warrantee on battery & car.
Great review, thank you. Interesting to note you appear to have the level 3 car for review, but it has the rather nice grey interior that you can't order - other than on the level 4 trim!! Irritating!!
Chargeport in the front is bad! In the summer it gets filled with insects and in the winter ( Sweden) it get filled with dirt and snow. It is the worst place to put the charger port at.
Just bought a 2023 Kia Niro EV and so far we love the car. It’s takes some getting use to though, with all the features this car has there’s a lot to learn what does what? Almost like being on the inside of a computer system with buttons and switches all around you. To make it more confusing some buttons have multi purposes too! If you’re not one that enjoys playing with computers, you probably won’t want to own this car though?
I have the Mk1 (4+). Got it on a lease 18 months ago and it was my first EV. I have to say I would hate to have to go back to an ICE car as I love almost everything about it. The styling is one of the things I would change if I could, but I'm not a fan of the new one, especially the headlights which look horrendous, although not as bad as the new Sportage which has to be one of the ugliest cars ever made! The extra space in the new car would be very welcome, as would the extra tech, but I feel they've missed an opportunity not including wireless Apple carplay and Android Auto which would be handy for short distances when you can't be bothered to plug your phone in. Would I 'upgrade' to the new model? No, definitely not! Would I have one if I were at the end of my lease? Hmm, I'm not sure. One of the big negatives is the still too slow charging compared to other new ev's. But you can't ignore Kia's quality. It would be a tough decision.
I was one of the many could have purchased the first batch of NEW Niro EV and pulled out went for MG4 EV, while the Niro EV is good, it just yet to be competitive to MG4 in value department with a similar range but higher charging ability. The tipping point for me is the usage of the car as a daily short distance commuter so the advantage from the space does not outweight the value for money in my case.
I think they stayed pretty average overall. Not much more that the old one. 17" is a bit small nowadays. Worst pitty is that the CCS is not on par. High milers won't get best use out of it. For daily Joe it's good enough. Due to ICE platform the nose is too large for my taste.
It is greater in terms of look and quality but mediocre DC charging speed and roughly zero improvement on the soundproofing compared the first generation makes it less of an attractive EV. Moreover; it still has lithium-ion battery. New EVs are coming with LFP batteries. It has serious competitors nowadays and price-wise it cannot compete with them, in my opinion.
I had a 2017 Kia Niro when they first came out. 75k miles...only had to change 2 tires and the oil of course. Got a 22 kia Sorento hybrid s AWD and what a beautiful classy looking total piece of shit. It's still in the shop since may 25th! Kia lost me yesterday as I got sick of waiting for my piece of shit Sorento and found a 22 Honda CR-V touring. I hate Hondas warranty of 3/36000 but then again....I don't expect it will break down and sit in the shop for 4 months and then still not know what's wrong.
A car that looks interesting is, sadly, a car that loses out in the practicality!! Even with the dropping boot floor, it’s not as good as a traditional estate car!!
Test drove the Niro today. Great to drive but just vile to look at from the side. Disappointing as I wanted to like it but life’s too short to settle for for mediocrity.
That was my first reaction but as most chargers I use away from home are 50s, in practice it probably wouldn’t make much of a difference for the next couple of years.
I wouldn't say it's a deal breaker given how good the rest of the car is. And remember, it's a very efficient one, so unless you are constantly needing to charge when you are out and about, the charging speed wont be too much of an issue. But it is a flaw in our opinion, so it needed mentioning.
@@GF-ep1pf Where I am, the 150 kW charger is ubiquitous, and 350 kW chargers are quickly becoming common,. That makes even sub-120 kW charging outdated.
@@AutoEV I, for one, definitely appreciated it being mentioned. This is the first time I have seen it covered, and I was looking forward to the new version. As I do 30K+ miles a year, it's a definite disqualification for me. I'll just have to make the leap to something more expensive, or settle for the PHEV.

Such a good review! Nice and calm presented, something that Mike Watson at Carwow could learn from.
Thank you very much for watching and taking the time to write such a lovely comment.
I also really enjoyed this review but I also think Mike Watsons reviews are very informative and entertaining!
His name’s Mat Watson haha
I got mine. I think first in Hawaii 2023 Niro EV Wave in Dark Charcoal Gray., I LOVE IT!!!
Wow! Hello to you over in Hawaii! Thanks for watching and taking the time to share your thoughts on the car. It is a lovely car. Have you seen how it fares in our 2022 Awards? I think you may be happy!
Got kia e nero 64kw (3 )1 year left on pcp
Only bad think is charging speed
They have 1 year to up it or i jump ship to
Mergain E 130kw raid 22kw type 2
Thats 100% more for same 40k ish
I’m reviewing the new Megane E-Tech in the next episode John. Make sure you watch it!
Thank you so much for this content! I dont understand much about cars and this helped a lot! Will you have a review on the new electric jeep?
Thank you for watching and taking the time to send us such a lovely comment. I’m glad you enjoyed the review! Yes, as soon as we can get our hands on the new Jeep Avenger we will be subjecting it to a full road test review. Make sure you subscribe so you know when it’s live.
@@AutoEV Fantastic, done!
Awesome review
Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment.
Hold button for 3 seconds to turn of lane keeping assist.. no need for diving into menus
Yes, there is that, but then it defaults back on when you start again. There needs to be a better solution in my opinion, but it doesn't spoil an excellent car.
@@AutoEV Regulations prevent that AFAIK
@@MartinNyholmJelle It's all about NCAP ratings - not having it default to on lowers the NCAP score
I've just ordered the 3 just disappointed with the lead times by kia. I want it now!!!!! 😫 🤦😁
Good review of a nice ordinary family car. Kia, really are delivery some great cars.
Sounds like there is some significant road noise.
Sorry if I missed it does it have 360 cameras like my Leaf has, plus Lane warning for blind spot ? Does it have heated / folding door mirrors. Thanks Bob Blood Kent England.
late reply but for anyone else that wants to know it doesn't have 360 camera but has heated and folding mirrors.
Great comprehensive review, liked it 👌👏
Glad you liked it
Excellent, explain thank you
Another great overview. Kia/Hyundai keep on raising the bar. Possibly one for me to think about. If I can part with my Billy Joel (Soul)
I see what you did there........👏
I’ve got one on order but the black trim worries me. I’m not sure if it’s piano black plastic or not because that’ll scratch like hell
Been looking at the BMW iX1 which my heart wants but have booked a test drive for this Niro EV so really my head says this is the one.
Love it and would love to buy one. But is it worth £6k more than the top spec MG4?
good point, will be test driving both about March. Here down under.
This or the soul ev will be our next used car.
How do kia do in general battery degradation compared to other manufacturers in the same segment?
We have one on test this week to potentially replace our ID3. Does it have good matrix headlights?
And have you replaced the ID.3 with the Niro?
Been waiting for 9 months for mine impossible to get one in canada
It is interesting that people are not bothered by the low charging speed.
Well, that's only relevant on long trips. If you charge at home 99% of the time, it's a small trade off
90% of people use cars for short journeys and only the occasional long journey. so it would make zero difference.
Really thinking I'm gojng to order this for my next lease car, can you tell me if it's in the interstellar grey colour ?
I'm pretty sure it was, although you may want to check with your local dealer as colours can get changed/deleted when a new model year starts.
If you're concerned about safety, here's the car going through some safety crashes: th-cam.com/video/hx1rsEBEu0E/w-d-xo.html
Cheers.
standard is black fake leather in the top spec (and they feel amazing) lower specs get cloth.
@@Dreadpirateflappy So all black then , no grey?
Had my Niro HEV delivered this week and love it! Was upset to get rid of my A3 but I'm pleasantly surprised.
Has anybody fitted a roof rack to theirs? Not keen on getting the bike in the back.
What is the consumption and range on 30 50 and 70mph? I mean real values ;)
I liked the older model’s exterior styling better. Now I t’s like a dolphin went to Vegas - overly designed. The other thing is that there is too much going on and hard to figure it all out. I loved my 2022. It did take me a while to love it. I hope that happens with the 2024.
Ordered this car early November. Still waiting. They said it takes till end of May ugh
ordered mine August 22 and only just got it. Its beautiful in person and very spacious.
Would a space saver tire fit in under boot floor?
Yes, I would think it would.
Really? Update please....
My Niro EV 4 is 11 days old and I’m already having issues. The car often (3 times so far) refuses to move into gear. It seem it’s immobilised! I turn the car off and lock it then go back a few minutes later and it will start ok. Not good for a car that cost 43k
What colour is this car in the review video, is it "Interstellar Grey"?
I think so, yes.
My Niro Ev 3 has exactly the same interior
If you can explain in MG and EQE Mercedes as well please
How do you mean? We’ve tested both of those cars too?
Yes you right just saw you TH-cam channel
Is everyone so in love with EV that too many reviews rarely discuss prices.
We discuss prices in the pricing section. Or do you mean about how expensive they are in general?
Does it have heads up display?
top range one does
Chargeport in the front is bad! In the summer it gets filled with insects and in the winter ( Sweden) it get filled with dirt and snow. It is the worst place to put the charger port at.
Locating rear lights in the bumper makes no sense whatsoever. Not clear, and vulnerable.
You got a defective car there, they put the steering wheel on the wrong side! 😂
You said you would talk about the V2L.
Apologies. It has it.
Nice car.
Does it come with an umbrella?
No, but I am sure you can buy one from your local Kia dealership!
They could’ve at least added a faster AC charger to it😊
I was one of the many could have purchased the first batch of NEW Niro EV and pulled out went for MG4 EV, while the Niro EV is good, it just yet to be competitive to MG4 in value department with a similar range but higher charging ability.
I reckon the ‘nose’is one of the cars best features.Larger wheels would compromise the efficiency of the vehicle.
@@1derekwinter1 It's not the wheel size om its own. It's the drive ratio.
Many on 18 and 19 run efficient too.
Isn't the Niro just a more expensive eSoul?
No, its a new platform.
Nice ev👍👍👍👍👍
I had a 2017 Kia Niro when they first came out. 75k miles...only had to change 2 tires and the oil of course. Got a 22 kia Sorento hybrid s AWD and what a beautiful classy looking total piece of shit. It's still in the shop since may 25th! Kia lost me yesterday as I got sick of waiting for my piece of shit Sorento and found a 22 Honda CR-V touring. I hate Hondas warranty of 3/36000 but then again....I don't expect it will break down and sit in the shop for 4 months and then still not know what's wrong.
😂🤣
Front seats look less comfortable. Smaller no shoulder cover
super comfy when you sit in them
A car that looks interesting is, sadly, a car that loses out in the practicality!! Even with the dropping boot floor, it’s not as good as a traditional estate car!!
Test drove the Niro today. Great to drive but just vile to look at from the side. Disappointing as I wanted to like it but life’s too short to settle for for mediocrity.
Charging speed makes it an instant 'NO'.
so what is better at this price with the package included
Looks like an old Ford Focus from behind...
And that too was a great car.
I don't see it?
I don't like the new look at all and will be looking at other brands of SUV because of it.
The new Kia Niro EV IS TOO SIMPLE. BETTER MAKE THE SPORTAGE EV. ITS A PITY. Outside
