19:10 About the charger in Metz (that should be pronounced like « mess » by the way 😉), the charger asks you to close its door before starting the charge.
@@MrEV Your not the only one. I did exactly the same thing in France. All I had to do was follow the instructions precisely. Not hard, but being a bloke...before the ladies point this out. 😁
It actually says in french that you unlocked the right side charger with your RFID card right after you plugged into the left side port. 😅 Us french always seem to make it difficult for non francophones
Just found this channel today and have been watching all the roadtrip videos back to back. They’re an absolute joy and you and Flaviana deserve all the praise. Don’t have an EV (yet, lease of the hybrid is up in 3.5 years), but I love every minute of this. Agree with what one other viewer said: it’s like a sitcom with EVs. Anyways, keep it up! Best from the Netherlands.
That’s so generous of you. Thank you, Gerben! We came home via Amsterdam so I hope we’ve captured your country well in part two. Certainly based on what I’ve seen, when you do get an EV you’ll be in the right place: chargers everywhere!
I can't tell you how much I enjoyed this. Stumbled upon this channel by accident and your wife has me in stitches, a total star. You have a wonderful family and I'm very jealous. Subscribed. 🤗
I have done similar trips in France. Going at 130 kph really uses up the juice. Just dropping to 120 kph makes a considerable saving. Physicists will tell you it is a square law of speed to energy or similar, so a slight reduction in speed makes a big difference in consumption. I agree all service areas in France have chargers. Sometimes, finding one that works is tricky.
Even in the UK, I've noticed that travelling without detailed plans has become easier, thanks to the increasing number of charging hubs at motorway service stations. However, I do wish that more hotels, holiday homes, and campsites would install destination chargers-and provide more of them. My only frustration with holidaying in an EV is having to go out of my way to find a rapid charger while at our holiday destination. Having a destination charger available overnight would make things so much more convenient.
Yes so have I in last 12mths. I have Google maps in the car and just search for EV Chargers when we want to stop now, it show you those around and also tells you what is available (mostly) so you can see if it is more than 4 for example. Destination charging when away is so important. Here we are at our cottage and I am plugged in to a 13amp socket. Slow but fine. Then we can set off back with 100% if I wanted.
Campsites with destination chargers will defo be top of my list. So smart camp site entrepreneurs install of couple of charging stations. They’re relatively cheap.
You’re brave! I’ve made the trip Switzerland to Yorkshire and back 3 times in the last 4 years… with a Tesla. This video shows me clearly what a massive advantage Tesla and their Superchargers have. Just shove where you are going into the SatNav. The car knows its state of charge and how much you will need and plans all the stops. Every Supercharge I have ever used works immediately. No queue. No card. No App. No faff. Just plug in and charge at 150kWh…
Not sure why all Tesla owners think they have the better setup. I’ve done 2 big Europe trips in my Teslas and 4 in two other EV’s. They all have the route planning and charging feature but none of them know when you need a piss or something to eat. It doesn’t take a huge IQ to plan it yourself. Teslas also have the disadvantage of ridiculously slow charging, they haven’t moved with the times. I even opted not to take my free supercharging Model X on one trip, far easier in a fast charging car specially at 60kw on a shared V2 🙄.
@@Tim65W 10 to 80 percent in approximately 27 minutes. model y. it's pretty much on a par with other EVs, so you are welcome to explain yourself? Again, as he wrote, you should not fumble with cards, apps, or anything else at a super charger. It is not difficult to drive in other car brands, agree, but it is still more difficult to drive through various countries in the EU, either you are very lucky with other chargers and what you have cards, etc., or you have not tried Tesla vs other.
Thanks for the video Andrew. We just got back from our Europe trip and agree charging is now not an issue at all. We have a Tesla and set our destinations on the the nav, which obviously shows your super charger stops. We barely touched a super charger this year. Where ever we stopped for a quick break there was always charging ( none Tesla) so I would plug in whilst we had a quick toilet break and in that time you could easily add another 100 miles or so, so the plotted super charger stop would not be needed, we'd just travel past it. Also all destinations on our trip had charging too. On another note when we left Lacorno Switzerland to travel to Colmar ( via Gothard Pass) Along most of the route about every 10 miles or so new stop off points with just a WC block and 4 ultra rapid chargers had been installed, so again if you needed a quick pitstop you could add a lot of miles in 10 minutes or so. I would say Europe is just as easy to travel in any EV now, Tesla or not.
Thanks you for sharing this beautiful family-holiday road trip with us. Yes, we German EV drivers are helping wherever we can and have a wonderful community - its like a big family. I also drive the Niro, but next model, which is technically almost exactly the same but in a modern design with very minor improvements and I am also quite happy with it, despite its known charging speed limitations that will hopefully make the battery live longer. Leaving it standing a few hours with full charge on a rare occasion will not create any significant degradation, totally agree with you there. I am not sure if the old Niro's efficiency isn't even slightly better, maybe because it very slightly smaller? Really great to see its ultra low consumption and long range and the prediction is usually adapting pretty well. If you know the average speed coming up, you can very well estimate the remaining power in your head. I am glad we don't have LFP batteries, because they struggle with power predictions because of their ultra flat voltage curve and the myth that charging them to 100% without extra degradation has recently been proven to be wrong - so really happy we run on regular CATL Lithium-ion cells, which might last really long. I love your editing and the music - fantastic selection - so much nicer than what other people use🙏what a joy ... and your Italian wife gives me German vibes🤣... calls things out what they are - brilliant - I love authentic, straight and funny people. I hope you have had a wonderful trip back and I am looking forward to the next video. Best regards from Munich!
Thanks, great video as usual! Loved your expression as Mrs EV hammered it on the autobahn, killing the range 😂. FWIW having just come back from a week in Burgundy, my impression is that although autoroute charging is pretty much sorted, it is the local (7 kW) infrastructure in France that is the next frontier for us visiting EV drivers. A variety of strange designs, not many instructions, and in some cases issues due to age and lack of maintenance. Loved the fact that our excellent gîte owner had installed a dedicated 7/22 kW borne on site, made life so much easier.
Funny, I did a parallel trip to @mrev at the same time to Italy staying only miles apart! It was super easy on my route, but I did plan a little so to use cheaper Tesla chargers and avoid tolls.
@lookoutleo Not a Tesla. I'm registered as a non Tesla owner, so the app only recommends open chargers. Being that this summer, I charged on Tesla for 34p, and the adjacent chargers were 80p, I take that as a win
Glad to see another video from you Andrew, greetings from Australia! Started watching your channel in 2022 when we did a UK road trip in an eNiro. Now we've got a BYD as our family car and loving the EV life! Thanks for your great content over the years.
Just finished a 1600 mile trip around Germany driving from Bristol in my Kia Niro, just planned as I went, charging enough to get to next point +30 mile contingency. I used Tesla charges as I could at least guarantee a spot even though sometimes they were in strange places. I only did a maximum of 5 hours on any day
Just got back a few days ago from summer hols to Austria in our eniro. We used the Tesla network and planned it so we new the places we could stop for lunch/dinner. We try to get overnight stops at hotels that have Tesla superchargers on site then I plug in first thing in the morning as soon as I get up and by the time we've had breakfast and ready to leave the hotel the car is on 90 to 100% charge. The longest day travel we did was 600 miles when setting off from near Zell am see in Austria to our overnight at the ibis Styles in Namur, Belgium - a 13 hr day including charging/lunch/dinner stops. Looking forward to part 2, keep up the great videos.
Love watching your videos. Always make me smile. Love the chemistry between you all. Just ordered a Nissan Ariya 87kw. My first EV so not sure what to expect. Switching from a bmw 420d 🤔
Lovely! I’ve yet to try an Ariya but my old friend Andy Clayton has one and makes videos about his experience. It’s called The Rambly Channel if you wanted to watch.
Love these videos. A tip I picked up on another channel recently was to use google maps satellite image to zoom in and view the charging stops and see where they have hidden them. Currently in France heading to Italy so I’m fascinated to see what the charging experience is like.
Just been down to Porto in a model Y. You end up bypassing most chargers on the way down...no issues at all. Only planning needed was in Portugal which is pretty sparse for charging. Spain and northern France are very well covered. Same going to Germany last month where we just topped up every two hours for10 mins for a pee before a 20 min lunch stop. Easy peasy
Andrew, charging to 100% and leaving it overnight certainly does NOT harm the battery! Leaving it at 100% for a week or two, maybe yes, but overnight, no. I've not seen any authoritative writing on this, but AC charging does treat the battery better simply because the car's BCM controls the charging and knows how to treat the battery far better than DC via the charger. You can't cell balance with DC as it will only balance at 100% on AC! Cell balancing is recommended at least once a month. As you say 100% full isn't 100%, because of the buffer, which is why it is there to protect the battery, even if you charge to 100% and leave it. Hope to meet up at Everything Electric on the 11th.?
Would be nice to see a cost breakdown of the eurotunnel, tolls, and hotels as well as charging cost which you displayed. Just for sakes of understanding how much it’d cost our family to make a similar trip, it would be very useful! Enjoyed the video as always, thank you
Hi family EV! I love your content on EV trips and EV vehicles. Thank you for the very fun and informative content. I’ve done EV trips to Italy (2020 Kona) and a 4000 km trip through France (Polestar) and both trips were absolutely flawless. Even in Italy the charging infrastructure is impressive. I usually stick to a few of the larger better known charge providers on the highway and in towns I just charge when I run intro a charger. Keep the good work going!
Just adding a comment to help your algorithm. Love the music score you choose and it was good company to be with your family for the hour + video and the Kia e niro is a first class EV.
I drive from london to italy 3 times a year & the best EV by far is Tesla i had an ID5 before that. Tesla has no stress with charing also cheaper rate. You can also use air con etc & a realistic range makes it such a good drive . great video👍
Tesla is certainly still the gold standard thanks to the Superchargers (and the integration with the sat nav). Our trip with the Model 3 a couple of years ago went really well - although Flaviana was annoyed that some of the charging stops were off the motorway.
Great video as normal. On our recent trip across Europe we stopped overnight at Woippy, just north of Metz. The Hotel Campanile Metz Nord has 10 Powerdot chargers, 22kW, 50kW, 100kW & 188kW. We charge to 100% free of charge with Electroverse. We experienced other free charging, a car park whilst visiting Lucca and in Telese Terme whist eating dinner. We prefer Ferries, breakfast on the way out. Chose Irish Ferries as they were cheapest and more importantly they have a 72 hour margin for changing your crossing time, which we took advantage of on our return.
What a great video I really loved your videos Andrew The live streams were very good as well. I hope you and your family are well and looking forward to seeing more of your videos. Take care.
Wishing Edison Motors (love the name and the reason for it) loads of success. I love that they're upgrading old trucks instead of building new so not creating more carbon that way, and also keeps the old truck charm, along with the simplicity of off-the-shelf making it easier for owners to actually maintain on a low cost basis.
Nice video! I don't bother with charging at the hotel anymore, just before arrival or after leaving in the morning we drop by the fast charger and you hardly lose any time and most importantly, a lot less money. The amounts those hotels dare to charge are shameful. We had a subscription to ionity throughout France this summer, 32 eurocents per kWh. dirt cheap. I must admit, then you do depend on 1 provider and that takes some planning, but on the major axes really no problem.
We’ve just driven through France from south of Lyon to Caen and there are plenty of 150+ kW chargers at each aire on the motorways. We’re not in an EV this time (towing a caravan) but wouldn’t hesitate to bring my EV if we weren’t towing 👍
Great video guys, we have just recently returned from France, in our petrol ICE car. We could definitely feel the shift towards electric cars in France, indicated by the infrastructure.
When i see a video which lasts over 1/2 an hour i normally ignore them. Except for yours of course which are so entertaining and every long video so far has had me thinking wow that was a quick hour or in this case nearly 59 minutes.. Looking forward to the return video..
Loved the live streams. Everybody being instantaneously involved. Was fun. Yes, you cant answer all the questions but that doesnt matter - its LIVE. Some of the bip&go sensors are a bit "iffy". You have to stop or creep forward ....or even take it out and wave it at the receiver (it says in the user notes - not had to do it myself). If you log in to your account on the website it will give you a charge guestimate. Should last 3 years or so. Looks like a fun trip. Hope you all had a good time.
Every year from 1980 to 1995 my dad (originally from Lake Garda) would drag us all down to his home town in a packed car, no seat belts in the back, no sat nav, just lots of coffee and arguments between mum and dad :-) good times... Grappa!!! that's why your hair is grey my man 🙂
Interesting to watch and amazed how many Chargers were not working. In the UK when I have found that, all it usually needs is a quick phone call to the number on the side and they reboot it. I found my Kia E Niro very easy to use in Europe a few years back and the Electroverse card was very useful.
Since I first started watching your channel, chargers & hubs have popped up all over. With the range on offer, I can't see it being too much of a problem now. Nice to see the electroverse card works most everywhere.
Another great video. Can't wait for part 2!!! We travelled down to Disneyland Paris and found the charging throughout France to be great. My octopus card didn't work but I used the app and that worked a treat. Didn't take the Ioniq 6 due to luggage issues (too much) but took the Skoda Enyaq and that was great. Smaller battery and takes a bit longer to charge but that just gave us more time to eat and stretch our legs. Found the trip far more relaxing with the longer stops. Electric cars might just be the future!!
My annual trip out two to the French Alps. Friday night after school finishes, 140 miles to Eurotunnel. Charge. On to hotel about 120 miles on. Hotel chargers never work so I go to charger before the kids wake up (a little miserable) then drive with one 15 minute charge before lunch, lunch and charge to 100%. Two stops before dinner. Dinner gives 100% then the last slog up the mountain. Practically recoup the range in the way down the mountain and we sacrifice a night in the resort by leaving at 4pm the day before after the last ski. Drive to dinner. Then drive to hotel, gets us 1/3 of the way home rather than packing the next morning and leaving with everyone else at 10am.
Last year, drove down to Provence, then, back up to Paris, then across to Luxembourg, then back to Kent. Only using google maps, no charging planning. Just charge when stopped or stop when needed to charge. Infrastructure, especially on French services is so good.
@MrEV I was apprehensive on my trip (just to provence and back) in '22 and used ABRP to plan trip down but found at each stop, I had more range left than predicted at each stop (the eNiro is so efficient) and had enough confidence in the infrastructure that on way home, still used ABRP but "pushed on" on a couple of the legs, only getting caught out once, where a services had only.1, broken, old 50kw charger, but it did have 20 new 150kw ones about to be commissioned. Diverted off motorway to a nearby tesla station then. So many more unlocked Tesla superchargers in Europe. This gave me the confidence to try the longer trip last year, without planning charging stops.
Brilliant again Andrew, we're off to south Spain early January from Orkney in our e niro 4+ ( with ventilated front seats 😊) Mrs P has planned all our hotel stops , and ill 'wing it' to with charger stops at services with my electroverse RFID card. Good point about 22kW ac on the rapids to look out for ! Look forward to part 2 !
I have travelled many times in Europe from the UK in my Tesla S and it’s just effortless! The Tesla navigation just knows where they exactly all are even in a large service station and you know before arriving how many are available. At this point I just couldn’t buy anything else as for me it would be a backward step. Good to see though lots of different EV choices now compared to 7rs ago when I bought my S.
Yes - Tesla still comfortably beats anything else with their nav… although having driven the Megane and Polestar, they’re very close to being just as effortless. Obviously what they lack is native access to the Supercharger network.
We bought the eniro in 2019 partly based on watching your videos. We love it and have taken it on several holidays. Interesting to.see you back in an eniro. Our son is a similar age you your daughter and since birth he has had doggie who is identical to your daughters teddy. I promise we aren't copying you but I will keep watching to find out what my future holds.
Your travel vids are so watchable. Cant get ait for the return journey. Can you put a map up of your journey route. Such a lovely hotel and area you stayed at.
Great point about the map! I used to do that in the old road trip videos but I made life harder for myself by animating it. 🤦🏻♂️ I’ll add it in part two.
@@MrEV I have an Electroverse RFID card, used it . But on odd Charge Scotland rapid charger, it didn't work. So good to have the Charge Scotland card as back up, especially if you are on the Isle of Harris and 4G signal for the app is a bit patchy. The worse thing of the trip is using motorway rapids ( which I'll try to avoid ), where the signage as to where the charger is in the car park, is fairly pants.
Nice to see that they have finished replacing the non-tesla chargers at Folkestone. May be useful for my trip in October. It will come down to whoever is cheaper as I had no issues with the tesla ones in March (hyundai kona)
I've driven to southern France three times in the last 18 months. You can reply on every 'Aire' (motorway services) having good quality charging. Away from the motorways it is much more dicey. The French don't seem to have embraced EV's. When we turn up to a charging station we are often the only car, so there are plenty of chargers available. Recently we drove in France in August, the major holiday season. The charging areas were overrun with British, Dutch and Belgian EVs. At one service area we had to wait in line for quite long time, and after we'd charged there were multiple EVs still in the queue.
Great video again. I watched some of your previous videos before taking a trip to France in July. I experienced similar problems to you. I wish there was some uniform way of showing chargers that were out of order. Some had screens that didn't work, but others had screens that looked like they didn't work until you pressed a button. Some said out of order, some looked fully operational. Some you plugged in first to activate screen, others not. Moving to a different charger is a pain!
The socket at the Hotel in Metz is a EU standard 11kW (16A) socket. If you had a European mobile charger this would have been perfect. Also if you skip Germany and drive through Switzerland instead, you don't experience the broken charger problem because Swiss chargers tend to be always operational, there are hyperchargers every few miles on the motorway and there never are waiting lines at the chargers.
Btw: your videos are great infotainment. Re. @44.12 you chastise yourself for missing type2 slot. But I’ll look out for it , as will everyone else now! So big thanks for pointing it out.
Great to see you back! A request for the next car reviews (and also your current one), could you also review its smart connectivity? How reliable/stable it is. I currently have a Peugeot e208 and the “smart” part is terrible, I had to make some workarounds myself using Stellantis API, but that’s not what a normal user would do 😅 Anyway, thanks for your videos 😁
I'll try to tackle that at some point. In my experience, it's just Tesla and Polestar that get the connectivity right: their apps are useful, fast and responsive. Well done digging into the Stellantis API!
Nice video, live just down the road from you in Birchington. Going on a trip soon to the Orkney isles.... in a petrol car. Sorry, the constant stopping to charge and hanging around would just stress me out. Love the interaction between your wife and you. I worked for 2 Italian ladies years ago in an industry known for forthright speech, but my God if they bollocked you you knew about it 😅. Subscribed 👍
Great video - again. It gives me some confidence about taking the EV plunge - maybe with an Enyaq as it has the space for our dogs! Lovely area you went to.
Just watching your trip to Europe really love your road trips. I learned about the Alpitronics chargers watching Bjorn in Norway and was aware at least some of their models of charger hardware had a type-2 port included. As for the 100% charge you did on one of the Alpitronics units run by EnBW I was never worried about it as you charge what you need and obviously don't charge to 100% all the time but if you need to as you did and helps for the next day. My Kona EV 2024 with 19" tyres not sure of summer efficiency as I've only owned it through the southern winter so far but pretty sure I won't be getting your efficiency as I bet you are running 17" which were not an option on the top spec Kona that I got for some crazy reason.
I am driving Evs since 2014 but for road trips there is just nothing better than the good old diesel. No worries, cheaper.. it just makes a road trip sooo relaxed.
Great - thats made my Saturday - well done on getting it up so quickly 😊 - those french speeds make a big difference to efficiency but the niro did well - my ix3 managed 3.7m/kwh driving to folkestone but only 2.7 the other side. I charged out and back from Reims at Saint Quentin tesla chargers but even though the car usually charges > 100kw/hr i never managed to get more than 70-80 consistently even when warm with a low state of charge - they were cheap though and never saw more than 2 other cars charging
The efficiency in France is generally terrible we find. I’m assuming it’s because their roads are so good and rarely congested: the average speed tends to be very high. We’re spoilt in the UK with our terrible motorways. Great for efficiency! 😀
22:15 what she called "Plastic" is called Alèse in French, the Alèse protects the bed mattress from bodily fluids. You find this mattress protector not only in hotels but in every house.
Fair point! The one in Metz that I thought was broken wasn’t though - just my poor understanding of French meant I didn’t close the door. But yes, ripe for parody either way!
I did a 800km round trip from Switzerland to Germany this week and the EnBW chargers were more expensive than Ionity. Like Ionity they did support Hyundai Plug & Charge.
Andrew that 1st stop in France A26 1 hour 41 mins? Crikey, that has put me off the e-niro which was my preference until watching this. Loving the video.
The first stop was after 1 hour 41 mins of driving, but the stop itself was only 31 minutes (while we were eating). Maybe my graphics are a bit confusing if you thought that was all that time charging!
very interesting trip. I have been planning to take my family to Venice on the road via the Alps. Missed this summer. Now thinking of February half term. Not sure if its as interesting in the winter a trip as it iwould be in the summer though!
Tried using ABRP and it's been really bad at routing recently. On a trip to Swindon,, it popped up a "faster route detected" message which I accepted. The route estimated arrival increased by 20mins and the estimated remaining battery dropped by 25% (before all the 3rd party delays encountered). Later that day I tried a route plot from Worcester to Liverpool and it decided the best route would be to Chester, across to Bangor then back to Liverpool. To say I've lost faith in ABRP is probably an understatement, with a 10 yo 24kw Leaf I can't afford my route planner to have "bad days". And yes, a better car would make it less of a issue but long distance isn't even 5% of my yearly driving needs
About the state of fast-charging in Germany: The status quo *at the motorway stations* was effectively frozen in the year 2021 or so, because there is a multi-year legal battle going on. There is a de facto monopoly in which the company "Tank & Rast" is managing all of the service stations and this company effectively wanted to build their own charging stations or decide who is granted access to build them, I don't know. Tesla and Fastned then sued Tank & Rast in order to be granted access to the precious area, too. Since then, the roll-out of any new fast chargers *at these motorway stations* has effectively come to a standstill. This is why in Germany, you will actually find plenty of rapid chargers quite close to the Autobahn but not directly at the service stations on the Autobahn. The Infotainment of the E-Niro should know them; at least my Ioniq 5 does. The situation at the motorway stations is a disgrace in comparison. And yes, Tank & Rast is really an evil company.
That’s a fascinating comment. Thank you so much for the background. I had heard from others (after I returned) that Tank & Rast should be avoided and to go to the Autohof instead.
Yeah, it feels like some evil oil company is behind all this in order to make the EV experience look shitty to the walk-in customers at Tank & Rast. Even the existing Ionity stations there are not extended anymore, so you have 4 Ionity stalls at only a few motorway stations whereas off-Autobahn stations very regularly have 12 stalls Ionity, a lot of Allego chargers, sometimes additional EnBW chargers and of course the mandatory Supercharger with 50 stalls or so, all in one place. It's often quite fairytales and rainbows if you leave the Autobahn. Greetings from someone else who should be doing work instead.
Love the forlorn look (with the camera) out of the window while Flaviana was carrying on with her rant over the mattress protector! I sometimes get 78kw when charging even at 40% (same car and mileage), the car just needs a warm battery at 25 Celsius! Found the open Tesla chargers to be the best option and routing via them as the others are just too expensive - especially when the Tesla membership is so little each month and can be joined on an adhoc basis! I now remove the first of the foam inserts in the boot permanently, which opens up the space considerably when needed, we have no need for our roof box now! I don't know if fitting one of those boxes under the bonnet to put the cables in voids the warranty or not so I haven't bought one yet!?
@computerbob06 hi I have put the fiam out of the boot under the bonnet, it fits perfectly and don't care about the warrantee, who is going to know....Kona series II
The Niro is a very nice car. I was on the early waiting list in Norway. However, they didn't offer a trailer hitch on the first models. I ended up getting a Tesla Model 3 with 910 kg trailer capacity in 2019. Just celebrated 5 yr. anniversary 2 weeks ago🎉 I won't switch to an e-Niro now, to reduce to 750 kg trailer and slower charging
19:10 About the charger in Metz (that should be pronounced like « mess » by the way 😉), the charger asks you to close its door before starting the charge.
Ahh! So it did work, and it’s just me being stupid (again!)
Thank you!

Having a destination charger available overnight would make things so much more convenient.
100% agreed. Definitely much easier than even a couple of years ago and destination chargers are highly desirable.
Definitely. AC charging is the EV superpower.

Agree totally. Especially hotels.

The other downside is driving a Tesla 🤦♂️
@@Tim65W 10 to 80 percent in approximately 27 minutes. model y.
it's pretty much on a par with other EVs, so you are welcome to explain yourself?
Again, as he wrote, you should not fumble with cards, apps, or anything else at a super charger.
It is not difficult to drive in other car brands, agree, but it is still more difficult to drive through various countries in the EU, either you are very lucky with other chargers and what you have cards, etc., or you have not tried Tesla vs other.
@@MKAnr1Lol
Good to see the electroverse card working on the continent!
It's like a reality TV show. Excellent stuff.
My wife is the same about not wanting to use cruise control. I think it’s to do with a lack of control!
Woot. 6 days away from my longest ever EV trip to Italy. This is perfect timing
Have a great time! Buon viaggio!
@@MrEV grazie! Great video BTW
Funny, I did a parallel trip to @mrev at the same time to Italy staying only miles apart! It was super easy on my route, but I did plan a little so to use cheaper Tesla chargers and avoid tolls.
@@davidmartin6215 do you have a Tesla or can you search for the Tesla chargers that will allow you to charge?
@lookoutleo Not a Tesla. I'm registered as a non Tesla owner, so the app only recommends open chargers. Being that this summer, I charged on Tesla for 34p, and the adjacent chargers were 80p, I take that as a win
Glad to see another video from you Andrew, greetings from Australia! Started watching your channel in 2022 when we did a UK road trip in an eNiro.
Now we've got a BYD as our family car and loving the EV life!
Thanks for your great content over the years.
Thank you - and congratulations on the BYD! I really need to try their cars soon.
An EV road trip to Italy with some smooth Jazz, nice
Just finished a 1600 mile trip around Germany driving from Bristol in my Kia Niro, just planned as I went, charging enough to get to next point +30 mile contingency. I used Tesla charges as I could at least guarantee a spot even though sometimes they were in strange places. I only did a maximum of 5 hours on any day
Great to hear! It must have been cheap using Tesla chargers too.
@@MrEV averaged out to about 35p/kWh
Love watching your videos EV Fam, enjoying your holidays vicariously!
41:57 you guys never fail to make me giggle, brilliant video, very helpful as I'm considering a road trip from Sheffield to Europe, thank you :)
I can't wait to watch this. I'm currently on holiday In Spain.
I'll be watching with my feet up as soon as I'm home 😆
Hope your all well 🫶🏼
Love watching your videos.
@@MrEV Will do thanks
Love these videos. A tip I picked up on another channel recently was to use google maps satellite image to zoom in and view the charging stops and see where they have hidden them. Currently in France heading to Italy so I’m fascinated to see what the charging experience is like.
Not to mention moving them (edit option) to actually put them in the right place.
Yey. A new video! Saturday tv watching sorted
I enjoyed the video and seeing many places I'm unlikely to visit myself. Thanks.
Don’t worry I use hide my email too 😂 I enjoyed the video even though I picked up some spoilers from the live stream 😁 Looking forward to part 2.
Easy peasy! Well done 👍🏻
Did you find Polestar easier? I love the way Google Maps works with recommending charging stops.
@@MrEV Way easier thanks to the google software. The charging speed helps too, with the kona we did 35/40 minute stops, with the polestar 20/25.
Just adding a comment to help your algorithm. Love the music score you choose and it was good company to be with your family for the hour + video and the Kia e niro is a first class EV.
Thanks so much, Colin!
Very relaxed trip. Lovely scenery. Top tip on plastic protective mattress covers.
What a great video I really loved your videos Andrew The live streams were very good as well. I hope you and your family are well and looking forward to seeing more of your videos. Take care.
Excellent my favourite EV family, love your videos 👌
My Wife is the same with HDA and cruise control in our Ioniq 5 prefers doing things manually 😊
"We are the Tills" 😁 Enjoyed the live feeds .. but it is your holiday, so didn't expect them all the way 🤗
We wanted to do another but were just enjoying ourselves too much in the end!
@@MrEV Good.
We’ve just driven through France from south of Lyon to Caen and there are plenty of 150+ kW chargers at each aire on the motorways. We’re not in an EV this time (towing a caravan) but wouldn’t hesitate to bring my EV if we weren’t towing 👍
totally right about hotel mattresses! i do the same!
Thanks very much! Watching this again I thought it needed some more heavy editing actually!
Grappa!!! that's why your hair is grey my man 🙂
Love to know what car was used and any breakdowns along the way, thx for posting.
Lovely choice of music Andrew. Looking forward to part two, im seven days late so hope it hasnt passed me by....👍
Thank you! Part two should arrive next week.
Interesting to watch and amazed how many Chargers were not working. In the UK when I have found that, all it usually needs is a quick phone call to the number on the side and they reboot it. I found my Kia E Niro very easy to use in Europe a few years back and the Electroverse card was very useful.
Thanks for the tip about Electroverse - looks like you are getting the subscription rate on Ionity, without paying the subscription fee. 👌
❤ video. Loved Flavianas funny walk at 8:40. Loved the e-Niro and love my Niro EV. 60 000 km and absolute no issues.
Since I first started watching your channel, chargers & hubs have popped up all over. With the range on offer, I can't see it being too much of a problem now. Nice to see the electroverse card works most everywhere.
It’s all starting to feel weirdly easy!
You have an IONIQ 6 and Enyaq?! What a combo! Strange the Octopus card didn’t work for you though. Have you ordered a replacement?
Another superb EV road trip video Andrew, it’s convinced us to try it in our Ioniq 5. 🚙 thanks ☺️
You’ll have a great journey - especially with those charging speeds!
Flaviana a should get a bug-proof breathable mattress cover to take with you. Those plastic sheets are just since the bedbug epidemic last year.
Last year, drove down to Provence, then, back up to Paris, then across to Luxembourg, then back to Kent.
Only using google maps, no charging planning. Just charge when stopped or stop when needed to charge. Infrastructure, especially on French services is so good.
Great to hear! Considering how bad France was just five years ago, it really is amazing what they've achieved.
Brilliant again Andrew, we're off to south Spain early January from Orkney in our e niro 4+ ( with ventilated front seats 😊)
Mrs P has planned all our hotel stops , and ill 'wing it' to with charger stops at services with my electroverse RFID card.
Good point about 22kW ac on the rapids to look out for !
Look forward to part 2 !
What an amazing journey! Charging in Spain is going to be interesting. Don’t forget your RFID card! 😀
Great video - chilled out approach to the journey combined with cool jazz.
Enjoyed the Video. Having seen your experience of changing the Kia I think I will stick with my Honda Civic Hybrid for a few years
Your travel vids are so watchable. Cant get ait for the return journey. Can you put a map up of your journey route. Such a lovely hotel and area you stayed at.
Great point about the map! I used to do that in the old road trip videos but I made life harder for myself by animating it. 🤦🏻♂️
I’ll add it in part two.
Just done Scottish Highlands and islands in our e niro. Really easy, good to have a Charge Scotlland RFID as a back up. Used Zapmap. Love the Niro .
Great to hear! Apparently Electroverse works with ChargePlace Scotland now as well. I’m itching to have a big Scottish adventure.
Greetings from Austria 🇦🇹👋 Great video, as always!
Thank you!
Moving to a different charger is a pain!
i love these videos.. they make me want to plan a euro adventure
Very enjoyable watch.
Inspirational 😊
The socket at the Hotel in Metz is a EU standard 11kW (16A) socket. If you had a European mobile charger this would have been perfect. Also if you skip Germany and drive through Switzerland instead, you don't experience the broken charger problem because Swiss chargers tend to be always operational, there are hyperchargers every few miles on the motorway and there never are waiting lines at the chargers.
Your e-Niro charges better than my ID3! Newcastle to Tours in France and my charging rarely exceeded 50kw. Adds quite a bit of time to the journey
That's surprising. When did you do that journey?
looking forward to part 2. Great videos
Lovely soundtrack at 24.36, well chosen to accompany relaxing, totally under control holiday vibe.:)
Btw: your videos are great infotainment. Re. @44.12 you chastise yourself for missing type2 slot. But I’ll look out for it , as will everyone else now! So big thanks for pointing it out.
A brilliant video with lovely scenery and locations. Roll on part 2 :-)
Great to see you back!
A request for the next car reviews (and also your current one), could you also review its smart connectivity? How reliable/stable it is.
I currently have a Peugeot e208 and the “smart” part is terrible, I had to make some workarounds myself using Stellantis API, but that’s not what a normal user would do 😅
Anyway, thanks for your videos 😁
It is so funny that you stopped at „Sindlfinger Wald“. We live in that area. So our two white eNiro could have met 😃.
Great video - again. It gives me some confidence about taking the EV plunge - maybe with an Enyaq as it has the space for our dogs! Lovely area you went to.
I hear from so many Enyaq owners who adore them! An EV we really must try ourselves some time.
Flaviana was changing the car with the bike generator. Nice! (9:08)
Absolutely enjoyed this. The last time I watched, you drove a Tesla. Looking forward to more videos.
Lol
Another excellent Family EV adventure!
40:06 I charged exactly here in July on my way to Italy. Just on the outskirts of Munich. That REWE supermarket is really good btw.
Andrew, your cheerful countenance in the face of a string of broken chargers is ripe for parody.
Been waiting for your latest video we in Saarburg Germany doing a mini European road trip
How did your road trip go? Part two of this should be coming this weekend to members. Hopefully!
Just got to the point where you found that 22 kW was available, that is what would happen to me!😂
Andrew that 1st stop in France A26 1 hour 41 mins? Crikey, that has put me off the e-niro which was my preference until watching this. Loving the video.
The first stop was after 1 hour 41 mins of driving, but the stop itself was only 31 minutes (while we were eating).
Maybe my graphics are a bit confusing if you thought that was all that time charging!
@@MrEV thank you, that makes more sense x
very interesting trip. I have been planning to take my family to Venice on the road via the Alps. Missed this summer. Now thinking of February half term. Not sure if its as interesting in the winter a trip as it iwould be in the summer though!
Nice to have you guys back, 3 months is too long. Find an editor PLEASE! 😭😭
41:59 had me in stitches, your wife is wild
Just celebrated 5 yr. anniversary 2 weeks ago🎉
I won't switch to an e-Niro now, to reduce to 750 kg trailer and slower charging
