Loretta Lynn is a country legend. She is a singer song writer who's music has spanned 6 decades. She was also friends with the great late Patsy Cline. Her younger sister Crystal Gayle also is a great singer. She grew up dirt poor & stayed humble & true to her roots. Like others have mentioned, the autobiographical movie "Coal Miner's Daughter" is worth looking at.

I love Loretta Lynn. As a coal miners daughter myself who grew up very poor in a holler, this is one of the most personal songs to me. My Mawmaw would tell me about how they used to live just like loretta describes ven today, people in that holler still heat their homes with coal stoves and draw their water from wells. We had an underground spring that came out off the mountainside behind the trailer and a well. I'm just now realising that my great mawmaw lived near the van lear mines in her earlier years before moving to southern WV. I wonder if she ever met Loretta Lynn, they would have got on well because they were both such blunt, honest and confident women. I tell you, there are so many older women in my life that are just that way too. Probably has to do with the upbringing, but they are something else. And also they are the toughest creatures on the planet.

My mom.was a Coal Miner's Daughter and grew up in a holler in WVA. My mom was extremely proud of her daddy and the fact she was his daughter. When she passed her headstone has a picture of a Coal Miner walking holding the hand of a little girl and it is scripted with 'Proud to be a Coal Miner's Daughter'. Rest in Peace Mommy. You will always be loved and missed.

As of the year 2000, there were 299 residents in Custer Washington, a small town just south of the Canadian border. Back in the 1950s-early ’60s, there was one special resident: Loretta Lynn, before she became a country star.
Loretta, then 14, and her 21-year-old husband, Oliver “Doolittle” Lynn, moved to Custer from Kentucky in search of a better life.
The Lynns spent 14 years in Custer, raising four children (two more children would be born in 1964, after the Lynns moved away). While Doolittle looked for jobs, he’d often leave Loretta and the children alone for days at a time. Loretta did what she could to earn money for food.
“Before I was singing, I cleaned house; I took in laundry; I cooked for ranch hands; I picked berries. I worked seven days a week. I was a housewife and mother before I was an entertainer. And it wasn’t like being a housewife today. It was doing hand laundry on a board and cooking on an old coal stove. I grew a garden and canned what I grew.” (Source: NW Prime Time.)
It was during this time that she began singing to herself and writing music, to pass the time. Doolittle encouraged her and bought her a $17 guitar when she turned 18. After many performances at local bars and halls, she would eventually record her first record, “I’m a Honky Tonk Girl” in 1960, followed by a string of hits:
“Don’t Come Home A-Drinkin’ (With Lovin’ on Your Mind)”
“You Ain’t Woman Enough (To Take My Man)”
      “Fist City”
      “Coal Miner’s Daughter”
“Woman of the World (Leave My World Alone)”
“You’re the Reason Our Kids Are Ugly”
Her themes included marital problems, women’s rights and motherhood.
She has often visited Custer after becoming famous. “Every time I go up there, I start looking for a little house. I may not leave this time,” she said in a 2001 interview with the Seattle P-I.

Loretta Lynn will be 90 years old and just released ANOTHER hit album titled STILL WOMAN ENOUGH. Yes, she is STILL WORKING!! She loves it too much to give it up...and nearly all the songs she writes and sings are BASED ON HER OWN LIFE. Check out the movie COAL MINER'S DAUGHTER. It tells about her life growing up, being married just before 14, having 4 kids by 17 and then twins for a total of 6 kids by 21, AND getting to the point of being a superstar. It was the very 1st movie ever made about a woman's life story. It was based on the book she wrote by the same title. She's always said, written, and sang what was on her mind...good or bad...regardless of if it would be banned from radio play. She's the most awarded country music artist. She is a Living Legend! She is The Coal Miner's Daughter!

You may want to check out the other Queen of Country who was also Dolly and Loretta'so dear friend, Patsy Cline. Her voice is haunting but she passed away in a plane crash.

Loretta Lynn is the OG of Country music. She didn't play ,back in the day. She was probably the first woman to write her own songs about women's liberation and women's empowerment. You need to check out "Fist City" and "You Ain't Woman Enough To Take My Man". She was serious about her marriage and she meant every word that she sang. We had Tammy Wynette, who was once married to George Jones. Then, we had Dolly Parton, but Loretta was the true badass .
Tammy sang "Stand By Your Man".
Dolly sang about " please don't take my man".
Loretta Lynn sang about, " go ahead. Try to take my Man. I'll F you up". 😅🤣😂💯👊

Loretta didn’t just break barriers in country music, she blew them the f*** up! From women’s rights, to hugging Charlie Pride at the awards show when she was told not to stand next to him because it wouldn’t look good for a white woman to be seen with a black man. When he won that award she whispered in his ear, “Tell them to kiss your black ass, honey”
She was a legend, and her greatest achievements might’ve been outside of the 100’s of hit songs she wrote.
You should listen to Van Lear Rose album that was produced by Jack White. Also, find videos of him talking about her. He loved her like his own mother

Loretta met Doo at a dance, he was in the Army at the time, he loved her at first sight. When she sang to the baby he thought she had a beautiful voice, he bought her a guitar. She learned to play it by herself! Watch the movie, it good and accurate.
Loretta Lynn has always been my favorite, a true American success story!

She's the real deal, a lot like Dolly Parton, they both grew up poor and are such good people. They'd give you the coat off their back without even thinking twice! She is considered one of the best ladies of country music. Couldn't meet a more wonderful and humble human being.
She sings about her life and she tells it like it is. Definitely take the time to watch the movie, Coal Miner's Daughter, it's super good and it will give you a really good idea of who she is and what her life was like

Fist City next!! Loretta , like Dolly, wrote about her life. So most of her songs are about her family. Her husband was a womanizer. But she loved him. She was barely 15 when they married. He recognized her talent and put her on the radio. She still speaks like the Appalachia Mountain folk does. For example she says bornd instead of born. I've loved my Mama's mountain speak my whole life. Took her out of the holler but couldn't take the holler out of her.
