Loretta Lynn (RIP) was the Queen of Country Music. She was real, and she wrote and sang about real life, often autobiographical. Several of her songs were banned from radio stations because of content eg The Pill. She was the first woman to win Entertainer Of The Year from the CMA. Thanks for discovering this legend!

Loretta was married at 14 back in the hills of Kentucky.. All of her music was about her life experiences.. Starting with a baby (her) having babies... her music is legendary in country.. The Queen of Country.. The Movie Coal Miner's Daughter was her life... Sissy Spacek won an Oscar for the role of Loretta. Just the kindest, sweetest, SASSY woman ever... RIP

Loretta Lynn died in 2022 at the age of 90. She was an influential singer/songwriter who, as you may have guessed, wrote about her life. If she and her husband had a fight, she wrote a song about it. They married when she was 14 and she had the first of 6 children when she was 16. Her sister, Crystal Gayle, is also a famous country singer. Crystal is only 73 yo now. Her signature song is "Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue". Country music is very interesting. Most of these songs are about the lives of ordinary people and the hard lives they have endured.

Loretta Lynn came from very humble beginnings, married as a young teenager, had 4 children by 17, and then had twins just as her music career started taking off. Se wrote most of her own material, said what she thought if you liked it or not, had a very hard love story with her only boyfriend/husband (yes, he would get drunk and hit her...and she would hit him back twice!), her husband literally had to make her go on stage in the beginning, she was so scared (she would get 4-day migraines, she was so stressed), although he cheated and could be abusive, he believed in her more than anyone else and pushed her to be the best she could be. She died living her motto: Never Quit, Never Retire. She was forced by health problems to stop touring, but she continued writing and recording songs. She was in the middle of a 5 album deal when she died, recently javing released yet another award winning album. She went from nothing to a net worth of $65Million...never forgetting where she came from, calling her fans "friends" because they afforded her to give her children a better life than she had, opening her ranch and campground to the public so they would have a place to stay when they visited, and thanking God for all her Blessings. She died peacefully in her sleep with over 3,000 songs she wrote but hadn't recorded yet.

this song was autobiographical for Loretta Lynn. There was also a film called Coal Miner's Daughter based on Loretta Lynn's life. It stars Sissy Spacek as Loretta Lynn and had Levon Helm from 'The Band' playing her father. Loretta Lynn's younger sister Crystal Gayle is also a singer.

My grandpa worked in the mines for over 40 years, daddy worked in the mines until a rock fall killed his buddy and trapped him deep in the mines. He was rescued but quit and went off to college, never returning to the mines. The best country song about coal mining was sung by a cousin of Loretta Lynn, Patty Loveless. Listen to You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive" especially the live version at Austin City Limits. It is fire.

My Daddy worked as a house painter, and a very good one too, we lived in a little white frame house in Alabama. We raised chickens and hogs, we raised a big garden in the summer, canned vegetables for the winter. My Daddy would take my sister and I swimming in a beautiful clear creek in the summer , but we would be covered in dirt when we got home because our old pick up truck had a hole in the floor board we drove on dirt roads and the dust would fly up and cover us.
I had a wonderful childhood, at the time I didn't know it but now I wouldn't trade it for the world.

Loretta has the most hits that went to number 1 despite them being BANNED from country radio. If you want to hear how much of a badass this woman was I would highly recommend songs like Fist City, The Pill, You ain’t Woman Enough and Don’t Come Home from Drinking. Even though it isn’t as popular today as her banned songs like “The Pill”, I think “Rated X” is one of them that is worth a listen. This woman didn’t hold punches. Literally and figuratively. RIP to the Queen of Country. Great Reaction!

Love Loretta. I was born in Pikeville, Ky, which is 45 minutes south on US 23 in Southeast, Ky. I'm a.coal.miners daughter also. My granddaddy, great granddaddy, uncles, cousins were miners also. It a poor country down there now that the mines have been shut down. My sister live back in a holler back on Mare creek. It's a different life down there. My daddy grew up in a minners camp. The coal mines built shantys for the minners and their families. No electricity, glass window panes, just openings granny covered with marerial. They heated the homes with wood or coal. They cooked on a wood stove. It might have had a kitchen, bedroom, living room. No bathroom or running indoor water. There were wells and outhouses you shared with others families. Miners didn't get real money. They were paid with scripts which could only be used in the stores own by the mi ing companies. Loretta daddy bought the land the lived on for $600. Build the house they lived in. It's still stands. You can go back in Butcher holler and take a tour of the house. Her brother has a store up the road.

Both my parents were almost this poor growing up (in Michigan)....mom's fam from Detroit, dad's fam from a farm in the north. I remember hearing about their hard times, and both sets of my grandparents' even worse times, from their respective European countries. Now here I am, typing my thoughts to you in my own warm house on this piece of technology. I take nothing I have, or am, for granted, and am so thankful I had good parents who instilled traditional values in me and my siblings.❤ I'm grateful for the better life we have now, and I wish the same for the younger generations in our family. Music like this touches me too, and it's among my favorite. R.I.P. Loretta

This song tells more than just a story. The thing about being a coal miner *before* unionization and governmental regulation was that most mines paid their employees in "script", not Dollars. Back in those days, the food and variety stores in coal mining towns were usually owned and operated by the local coal mines just like the available housing market was owned and operated by those same coal mines. When populations are "poor" in the USA, there's a reason behind it and it's usually $$$$$$$$$ and poor governmental regulations that allows the rich to profit while workers get the short end of the stick.
History is no mystery. As it was then and *remains today* situations like this are the fault of a local government that refuses to support the Common Good for All average citizens in the USA.

Loretta didn’t just break barriers in country music, she blew them the f*** up! From women’s rights, to hugging Charlie Pride at the awards show when she was told not to stand next to him because it wouldn’t look good for a white woman to be seen with a black man. When he won that award she whispered in his ear, “Tell them to kiss your black ass, honey”
She was a legend, and her greatest achievements might’ve been outside of the 100’s of hit songs she wrote.

Lynn was huge. When she came up when most of the country worked with their hands and backs. Moms did a lot of sewing making children’s clothing, you would buy a patterns. The women also knitted along with housework, sewing and caring for children. Most families had multiple children,I was 4-8 were commonplace. It was a hard life but you did what you had to and society was based on kids being educated and safe . As much as possible

I believe Loretta picked her out of actresses she was given because she thought they looked alike in a way. Beverly D'Angelo played Patsy Cline and was terrific as well. Most know her opposite Chevy Chase in the National Lampoon Vacation movies. They both sang their hearts out in this movie. Tommy Lee Jones played Loretta's husband.

This story goes across race, gender, location, and even time. We need to remember that we're all getting through in this life, we all struggle in our own ways, and we should respect that. We need to be willing to listen to other people's stories, because so many times they echo our own, and we realize we're connected. I believe I just witnessed you doing that.
