    You can also do a sparkler entrance instead of an exit. That way you won’t loose people because they think the evening is over.

    As someone who's been planning my wedding since I was 4 and also someone who's done a bunch of large scale set design and installation art, I feel like decent quality fake flowers would be completely acceptable for things that people don't see close up, aka the arch/altar set up or the decorations that are hanging from the ceiling or other stuff like that. Definitely not for table centerpieces or corsages. But this way (if you're DIYing it) you can put together these things ahead of time and not be as stressed out on the day before your wedding trying to work with a ton of real flowers.

    I am doing fake florals but they are the bougie ones lol. We definitely spent more on fake ones than we would have for real ones but my mom is an incredible florist and it was important to me that she does all of my florals. They only way to make that happen was for her to do them all ahead of time. But the bridesmaid bouquets are real lol! I respect your opinion, and I agree that the cheaper flowers definitely do not look that great sometimes.

    Coming from an 18-year-old who loves cake ... I loved the idea of having a dessert table AND a mini cake for the cutting ceremony, instead of a huge cake ! Out of personal experience from the weddings of two first cousins and my nieces birthday party, there is always SO much leftover cake. (I'm talking like at least enough to feed 50 people)

    Venue tip:
    Check out the local groups for wherever you're getting married. Not necessarily wedding groups, either. Instead, groups that have to do with the actual area that has people who've lived there for years or decades who might be able to suggest vendors to you that wedding groups might not know about. "You know you're from ____ when..." type of groups. It's what I did for the area where my fiance and I plan to get to married and I've gotten some good recommendations for vendors.

    If you’re not dead-set I’m doing real florals, there is an online company called Something Borrowed Blooms that designs and creates high quality silk florals and rents them out. Its the easiest process ever- you just order online and they ship the flowers to you and then you send them back after the wedding. They are gorgeous and so cost-saving it’s insane! Don't worry about the flack-givers! I've already decided that I am only having a mini-cake at my wedding, so we can cut it and smash it in each others faces..but the rest will be assorted desserts!
    Also... thought of another question for you. One that I am actually nervous about for when it comes time to plan my own wedding. I have a huge family. The kids are usually involved in all events. However, I don't think I am going to want kids at my wedding. I have even noticed that certain venues add on extra fees if children will be attending. Plus potential extra food costs for 'kids' options, as well as things to entertain them (aka a 'kids table' full of stuff). It adds up! What is the best way to word it on the save the date or invite to let others know that kids can't come? Have you ever had clients who's family members actually confronted them about such a thing after finding it out?

      Brianna Grace We are in the same boat with our wedding. We just put a little note on our invitations that said “although we do love your children we request that our wedding remain adults only, so book a sitter and dust off those dancing shoes.” I know that some people probably won’t like it but at the end of the day it’s our wedding and we have to do what’s going to be best for our day. I wanted to reach out and ask: what would be your best advice for a “non traditional” bride who wants a reception that is just a dinner instead of a dancing party with a DJ? Even though they’re great and super fun to attend, we only want to invite close family (like the ones who come to Christmas, not great uncle Charlie we haven’t seen in 20 years) and a dance party just doesn’t seem sensical for our family members, while an intimate dinner does!

I went to one for my sister's wedding planning and it was kinda cool but I was 15 so I couldn't drink and it seemed to be all the top vendors in our area so they were kind of expensive and she never hired any of the vendors or anything. Question: (You can respond here or in another video or both) I am starting to plan my guest count. I know that the typical rule of thumb is "if you have talked to them in the last 5 years then you should invite them" but I have a situation... My parents don't talk to their siblings or parents. They used to when I was little but they haven't in 15 years or so. So I am on the fence about inviting my aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents. I would like them to be there but I don't want there to be drama between may parents and their respective families. What would you recommend? Also, my family is still really close to one of the moms of my exs, do I invite the mom? If I do, should I invite my ex as well?

    Oh my gosh hiiiiii! 😍😍 Brilliant video as per ush, all hail the wedding queen! 👑 I'm gonna try to save money on the flowers by using both real fancy flowers but also using things I can find for free in nature. For our autumn wedding I'll be mixing in some branches with leaves and some with berries, some nice grass, and some branches with small apples. I've been pinteresting natural floral arrangements and found some really great inspo. Flowers are so bloody expensive but I love them and need them, this way I'll be able to slice the floral costs in half without loosing the effect!

    • @katjaoksanen944
      @katjaoksanen944 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oooh and we've found a great place for the wedding! It's a big barn but it isn't like super barny inside, it's more rustic european with white walls and ceiling but with visible logs like in a log cabin, it's just lovely! And there's a pond with a tiny island where you can have the ceremony and I'm seriously considering forcing my guests to be outside in October in Sweden just so I can live out my 13 year old self's fantasy of going of to Middle Earth and marrying Legolas 😂

    • @katjaoksanen944
      @katjaoksanen944 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      On the issue of cake: we'll be having three different types of cake, and none of them will be that cardboardy plasticy fancy cake, rather regular nice cake like carrot cake and mud cake. And some nice nibly things on the side too. Cake for me is non negotiable since there is a Finnish tradition that involves me stomping on my poor unsuspecting groom's toes and all of my relatives cheering and his relatives being nonplussed 😊

    • @katjaoksanen944
      @katjaoksanen944 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aaand we'll be having sparklers, but we'll be having a sparkler entrance for the reception since it gets dark pretty early in October in Sweden, I just knew there was an upside to living this close to the North Pole! 😂

    • @katjaoksanen944
      @katjaoksanen944 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ooh and any tips om how to make life easier for out of town guests? I'm realizing that were gonna put our through their paces by having the venue further away from the city with no real commuter traffic, but thought since were having both the ceremony and reception at the same place it would help. I was thinking of maybe setting up people without cars with those that have, but that might be difficult with people wanting to leave at different times. I also considered renting a buss or two, but that way people are either leaving a bit earlier than they want, or they'd have to stay longer than they wanted. My bff just tells me to rely on people taking care of that part on their own, but since I'm a professional worrier and am scared of inconviniecing people, that go with the flow attitude doesn't work for me. We're also still considering another venue that's very central, perfectly lovely but quite a lot smaller with just one bigger room and no good areas for people to mingle or kids to play. I guess you can tell that our hearts are set on the first venue, maybe I just need you to tell me it's OK to go with the venue that's bit of a bother to get to as long as it's a great party, and that the people who won't make the effort aren't the ones you want there anyway? Yikes, this wedding planning business has tought me that I'm less of a bad-ass with a 'if they don't like it the that's their problem'-attitude than I thought 😅

My problem is that I have children in my family that I really want to include... but other than that I don’t really want anyone else bringing their kids. Ugh, don’t I sounds terrible?! I also worry about if I decide to not include little kids, what about my older relatives? I have a junior bridesmaid who will be 13 and a junior groomsmen who will be 11. We have 2 kids of our own who will be there, and we would love for their cousins to come, but other than that I have.no idea how to tell others not to bring their kids and when they get there kids are there 😩 my thought was to say no kids under 12. I think teenagers can handle themselves better but still torn on how to address it or if I should just let it go. Food gets pricey also with kids who may just waste the plate

    • @tilarfifield2407
      @tilarfifield2407 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ceseli I think 12 is a good cut off! My future mother-in- law and I have discussed this actually and she says that if people get snippy about there being kids when they arrive to just say “hey they were in the wedding party that’s why they are here. Sorry not sorry.” Which, I think is pretty valid! But still... so hard!

    • @katjaoksanen944
      @katjaoksanen944 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If they're your own kids then they're part of the family, and then the other kids you want there could just as well just be their friends that they wanted to invite. But having the kids be part of the wedding is probably a good excuse if you want one, if they're flower girls or whatever they'll have to be there. It's so sensitive with people's kids, but I think many parents would love to get a babysitter and shake their butts. My issue is that my relatives with kids will be traveling in from different countries and won't be able to get a babysitter in a foreign country, so I've decided to invite kids too since the parents won't come otherwise. I don't mind since I really like all the kids, but I think you have to be prepared for parents opting out if you don't allow kids at the wedding.

    Need advice! My parents are paying for our entire wedding minus the alcohol and rehearsal dinner which my fiancés family will pay for. Our venue we can bring in our own alcohol as long as we don’t sell it. My fiancé’s family wants to just have their family (aunts/uncles) bartend, whereas I would really prefer professional bartenders because they are experienced with fast pours and making drinks. We are having at least 200 people so the bar line is really stressing me out with just random people pouring. I also want his family to enjoy the wedding and not work. Is this not my territory because I’m not the one paying for it?

      @@JamieWolfer Same question here! I don't have my own mom anymore but my mother in law is proving to be a bit difficult when it comes to our wedding plans... she actually picked out my dress and kind of put me on the spot to choose it because she was crying and overreacting when I tried it on before I even had a chance to decide whether or not I even liked the dress... I suffer from anxiety and was overwhelmed and don't know how to speak up for myself sometimes, and she had already called my father in law to ask if they could buy the dress for me, so I didn't really feel like I had much of a choice :( so now I have a wedding dress that, although I love my in-laws and am so grateful for them doing that for me, I really don't like the dress :( it is definitely more her style than mine for sure. I'm 38 & a 2nd time bride to be who has lost both parents recently. I'm trying to find a happy medium of honoring my parents in both the ceremony and reception without it being morose but how much is too much from a guest standpoint?

      I'm curious to hear what she'll say about this too! I want to honour my dad at my wedding and I've seen things where people will reserve a seat during the ceremony, or have a picture of their loved ones and light candles for them.

      @@KriziaIra I love the reserved seating idea! Are you thinking of doing anything in lieu of the father/daughter dance?
      We're planning on a couple different things to honor my folks. My MIL is planning on restoring a steamer trunk to use as a memory table for all our lost loved ones, the ring bearer will be carrying my family's bible that my dad gave to my mom on their wedding day. The guest book will be vintage postcards that my parents collected on their vacations.
      Most things the guests won't even know about...the venue is a one-room schoolhouse that my mom attended, the veil will have applique from my mom's dress, our centerpieces will have antique mason jars as vases from my grandma, vintage books from my mom, and antique tools from my dad's collection.
      Best wishes to you!

      @@elizabethhiegert8797 No, I haven't figured out anything for the father/daughter dance. Maybe I can do it with either my mom or brother in place.
      But I'm loving all the personal touches that you are bringing to your wedding, especially the refurbished chest! Hope everything goes off without a hitch!

    Just a heads up, your Instagram link is funky. I think it's missing some letters.

    I good idea is to not google wedding venues. Instead, Google "places to have parties near me." You'd be amazed the places that pop up you never thought of or knew were there. I found my gorgeous venue 3 miles from the church $2500 for 7 hours and it provides tables, chairs, linens, and the buffet for free. I didn't even know the places existed. It never popped up in wedding venue searches.

    Hi Jamie I would like to know your take on online wedding invitation. Do you feel that it’s tacky? I’m just trying to look for something that is cost affective, because paper invites can become expensive. Thank you for your opinion.

    Should we splurge on photography? My fiancé doesn’t think it’s necessary, but I do! How do I get him to understand?

      My bf feels the same. He says his sister can do it. But I do want professionally done too, at least for the ceremony 🙆

      It's the only thing you will have to reflect back on. You definitely need a photographer where you love their style. Well vetted is also good. Find the average or most often price package and at least pay the most common amount. Also, hours included on the day of is super important. As well as lighting, if it's in doors

      In short, yes. We are splurging for an additional photographer. It's the one part of the wedding that's going to last way beyond that day. You can use the photos to put up in your home, put them on your desk at work, have them as a background for your phone or tablet. Additionally, your family and friends will probably want some of the pictures. If he's really not gun ho on splurging, meet in the middle, and still have a professional. Ultimately you want to be able to trust the photographer to do the best job possible

      I don't know if I'm too late but if he really doesn't want to splurge then ask about at colleges, universities etc for photography students. It's great as they still know they're stuff, it helps with their portfolios and also as they're still in training they come ALOT cheaper than other professionals

    How to keep kids entertained at a wedding - I’m a Nanny, hire nannies. Trust me, hire nannies. And have a kids room or area. Nannies will make sure babies are fed and slept and kids are cleaned before exiting the kid area, they can sit on kids tables and make sure they’re fed and quiet during speeches. Hire nannies!
