My fiance is a wedding videographer and has been tipped maybe 2 times throughout the course of the 3 years he's been doing this. It's so true that the best thing you can do as opposed to tipping, is recommend your vendor to friends and family newly engaged. The couples who didn't tip him $100 bucks, but helped him get a new contract with one of their friends actually earned him a few grand. It goes much further!
American in Norway! No tipping culture here, thank god! It’s soooo much extra work for the couple! Just charge me one fee with the tip included and make it easy on me :-)
Can you do a video about what brides wear under their dresse. Still haven't found my dress but idk what to wear to the appointment/ wear on the day.
Abigail Yes that would be so help helpful! I had a friend whom wore a really cute bride to be shirt the day of the wedding but when it was time to change into the dress she messed up her hair trying not to mess up her make-up. 😓
Abigail YES IVE ALWAYS WONDERED THIS! It must get so uncomfortable so also what should you wear underneath to make it more comfortable

Canadian Bride here! First just want to say thank you for making these videos- I am OBSESSED and sometimes even listen to you without watching while at work (oops)! In terms of tipping, what I have been told numerous times is that you tip people/vendors where the people working there DO NOT own the business. So for instance, you would tip a photographer who is an employee of a photography company whereas you wouldn't really tip a photographer that is self-employed :/

For Catholics there is normally a "suggested donation" to the parish for the priest's time. BUT you should tip the alter servers (I've always heard $25-$50 per).

As a makeup artist in the bridal industry, you’d be surprised the amount of people who do not know to tip hair and makeup services. At this point I don’t even expect it, so when it does happen I’m very grateful. Thanks for bringing this up!
I’m paying $400 where I live I don’t know why I have to add $80 to tip. If I was going on an paying $50-90 for makeup like I have for something I tip if I get my hair down up or a blow out I tip but the prices for that are insanely dramatically lower where I live in NY I think that’s a big difference
I’m from the UK, and there is literally zero expectation for tipping in this country. The only time we tip in this country is at dinner, but for a wedding I’ve never heard anyone giving tips to their wedding.
Hello Slytherin! Hufflepuff here. In the US, there is tipping involved in almost everything service-related, because we often determine how much to pay based on the quality of service. It's a good idea, but in practice sometimes it means that a jerk will not give the service provider what they deserve.

@@CharitysClarity agreed. Running into that with hair and makeup right now and I feel like for the price of the service I shouldn’t be required to tip. Did you end up tipping?
Engaged March 2020 right before the pandemic hit. Couldn’t plan anything and work cut my hours. Had no idea what to do. Finally got a new job that started September so we chose an all included venue to help us figure out what the heck to do. Package comes with the tables chairs food etc and vendors (dj, photographer and limo) it’s all the basics though. Because me and my fiancé had to move in together early and both live paycheck to paycheck these videos are helping me kinda figure out what to do. I wish I found these videos a lot earlier though now that I have to cram everything into 10 months it’s not fun lol. Oh and we are paying for the wedding ourselves. Yayyyyy not. Wish we had help with it but that’s okay. Lol thank you so much for these videos I really appreciate it! Wedding is March 11th 2022. I wish I could afford a wedding planner because honestly I still kinda am confused on what I’m doing. Just found out I have to make the menus and didn’t know even to ask about that until I heard about it in a bridal fb group. Lol so these videos are making me now think what else am I missing ? I’m so fearful I’ll forget something and not even know I’m forgetting it because I won’t know it exists. Ugh. Downloaded the timeline though, thank you for that as well!

My fiance and I live in Walla Walla, WA and are planning our wedding for 12/29/2018! I hired a day of coordinator because that's all we can afford (and our coordinator is such an angel who worked with us on price so we could afford day of services!). These videos are SO incredibly useful while I do most of the actual planning, budgeting, and creating! You and this wedding make me want to coordinate too! Hi, I am knew here. My wedding is happening this year in September at Santa Rosa, CA. I am following your videos because you give great tips to plan a wedding. I recently watched the " First look pros and cons", and I talked to my husband and we decided to do that to save time. Even thou I have the idea that seeing the bride before the wedding is bad luck, I am okay doing it because we already got married. This is only the party for our family and friends. Thank you for sharing your experiences.

Just one thing, officiants definitely expect to be paid, whether you call it a tip or not. Probably not if it's your best friend who got a license online, but a clergyperson from a church should be paid. Weddings are an extra obligation, requiring coordination in advance, a rehearsal and the wedding. I worked in a church for 14 years and clergy always got paid extra by the family for weddings and funerals.

What if the bartender is included in my venue package and I’m supplying the beverages and my venue already has gratuity set up in the bill? Do I still tip the bartender? I’m assuming the gratuity is split amongst the bus boy, bartender, clean up crew and the manager.
Also, I live in NC, but getting married in Hilton Head Island, SC on May 4. I’m doing my planning but have a super awesome month of coordinator who’s been helping me for over a year. These videos are so helpful as I get closer to the big day to make sure I’m not overlooking (or stressing) way too much about one particular thing.

I'm in Clarksville, TN and I'm a wedding photographer. I'm always asked my opinion on various wedding things, so I watch you for tips :)
Something behind the scenes, I was a banquet hall server, mostly for weddings. If a tip is not written on the contract, and you tip anyways, the tip goes to the manager and maybe your maitre d. If a tip is written on the contracts, and you tip extra, only the extra will be given to the servers, not the 20% of total cost! Just in my experience with the venues I have worked at.

I’ve been one of those silent subscriber types, so here we go: From Oregon, getting married September 19th!! Only a little over a month away 🤗 Been watching Jamie’s videos since January or so, and binging more now than ever as the wedding day approaches. Oh, and I’ve been planning my wedding myself! Fortunately, I’ve been able to plan enough in advance where my experience has been very enjoyable and exciting rather than stressed, so planning as far out in advance, and in stages, really helps! 😊

TBH this is the most useful video, for myself, that you have created...as I was so confused as to who to tip and how much. Especially the buffet serving staff when we have a 18%service charge ontop of a 48 dollar per head count for buffet (china, linens, champagne toast, table, and chairs included). I'm from Canada and getting married in November 2018. Our venue provides the Justice of the Peace/Officiant and the DJ and includes a gratuity in the overall cost of the wedding so that's really helpful. Also, our photographers are in their first year of their business so they came highly discounted. We are actually tipping them with gift cards for gas. Our musician is a family friend with a new baby and we are tipping them with a gift card to the largest grocery store chain.

I’ve been doing the planning myself (while also working full time)... and we already have the venue, photographer/videographer and musicians! After watching these videos I’m seriously wanting to hire an amazing month of coordinator, like Jamie, because that would make the month of my wedding so much more enjoyable (and I won’t be pulling my hair out!) 😆

Guess what...most catering companies hire the bartender and they DONT tip the bartender. They give the money to their kitchen staff. Even the servers don’t see any of that money here in Los Angeles. Which is really frustrating and why I started freelance bartending.
