First time seeing any of your vids. Love the video and your ability to show the mistakes made and lessons learned. You’d be surprised how many people won’t do that because they are afraid of criticism. Good on ya brother 🙏
Definitely need a stronger wood like @rallsome said. Might try 1/2”, maybe 3/4” long bolts, though pretty sure 1/2” would be fine, and setting you drill depth just that far using tape like you did so you keep as much wood as possible. Maybe screw them all the way in to the head to get rid of the torque created like you were talking about and I believe the other issue may be the length. The longer it is the more stress there is in the middle when you hit the end like that, or on the end when hitting the center for that matter.
Don’t know if you have a table saw or not but if you do then you could use it to 45 the corners like you did with your chisel. Just have to mark the 45 where you want it then set your blade to a 45 and line it up with the blade. 4 passes and your done. just come back and soften the corners a bit with your plane or sandpaper (if you want) and would save you a bunch of time 🤷🏻‍♂️
Keep up the effort and positivity boss! 🤙

I used to make shit like this when I was a kid back in the early seventies. does anybody remember the tennis ball gun? took both ends off of tin can tape them together put a hole in the end with some lighter fluid then shot the tennis ball out surprised I'm still alive after all the crazy shit we did

Ah, that's a shame. Maybe also try carriage bolts. The heads are round, so they're a bit more of a pain to put in, but they help to disperse the force more.

Try finding a Maple, Ash, or Birch 2x2. $12-20 for a 12 ft baord. those are what baseball bats are made of, might be better at taking impact from a swing.

The next build I have planned is a Ski Sword from the Fallout video game series! It’s a fun little build that’s gonna be cool to see IRL.
And don’t worry, a full version for the Kanabo club will be coming soon!
