Is the blade made out of carbon steel or stainless steel? it would be better if it was carbon steel. I'm guessing the reason you splashed water on it while grinding was because you didn't want to ruin the temper? So I'm guessing it's at least some carbon steel

I suggest you look into the bowyers bible set, it covers arrow weight to bow poundage and the size animal you are hunting.
