the sir pentious being dragged away joke should've been followed up by pentious admitting to those demons he's failing at flirting with cherry bomb, so the demons don't go through with it and just watch him cry like "that's rough bud"
In my opinion, the snake guy getting dragged could have been stopped by Angel Dust, which would kinda teach him to stand up to his abuser- to which that interaction with Valentino would feel better.
Or do it like the scene with prisoners from ATLA where we are afraid of them and what they will do to Pentious only to cut it back to them giving him advice like "you gotta step it up dude, if you want her"
8:54 the complaint is more about how they're all in a majority red color scheme, they're all twigs, and literally all of them wear the same suit despite the period they died in.
@remicohen2438 yeahh no honey nice try though. Vox has the same suit, alastor has the same suit, Lucifer has the same suit, Angel has the same suit, Charlie has the same suit. And as far as I'm aware 4 of those have to official affiliation as employees or the hotel owner Charlie. Try again shugs. We get it you're one of Vivs bootlicking lapdogs who can't handle surface level criticism, get over yourself.

If I’m being honest, I dig the red for the most part. The one thing I don’t like is the lack of color variety. Like, red, black, white and yellow are good, but I think it would be better if each character had their own unique color, like green or orange. And I also kinda agree on the body types. Usually I’m cool with it, but some characters don’t make much sense. Like in DBZ, it makes sense when all the characters are buff, since they’re fighters. But in Hazbin Hotel, most of the characters are from wildly different time periods and from wildly different backgrounds. It’d be cooler if they had some more variation in body types, is all.
@@DaHedgeMoon not to mention does weight gain just not exist in hell. You think it would especially since Angel is a druggie, Husk is an alcoholic, and Lucifer is a shut in
My biggest problem with the show is that hell is too nice of a place. If you've ever been to an American metropolitan city you've been to Hazbin hotels version of hell. The only difference is the extinctions. The only character who seems like they're really suffering is Angel Dust.

@@treyyert9561hazbin hell seems closer to Jewish interpretations of a temporary place where your sins are burned off than the Christian eternal damnation
The designs being too samey isn’t a dumb argument though. If you’re being as literal as possible than yes, the characters look nothing alike. But people are referring to how every single character is talk and slender as hell. Nifty and Mimsy being like the only stand outs.
I would argue that criticism is also aimed at the level of detail in every character's design. Even background characters in this show get a ton of little embellishments to their design, and as a result of so much visual clutter, it all ends up looking same-y.
I really appreciate your segment about Angel dust as a survivor because this is exactly how I experienced my specific situation where I thought It was my fault. That I wanted it and tried to grasp straws in a way that made me in control when I wasn’t. Its been very frustrating seeing people disregard my experience as a kink when I lived in hell for too long.
@@forgetaboutme5414 incorrect that only apply to kids but adult they had some had in it gonna be completely honest the most common of which putting themselves in situations that are high risk
“The characters aren’t samey!!” 8:22 Literally shows 3 characters who have the same body type (not height, but build), have wide, angular grins with sharp teeth, while wearing suits with a tailcoat, bow tie, and that weird collar around their necks 🤦🏾♀️ You can add Sir Pen to this lineup and each visual aspect still lines up, despite them all being from different eras. IIRC, even Ozzie has this issue. And yes, suits from different eras have different shapes and styles. It’s annoying that background characters have more visual diversity than the actual cast.
the fact that basically all the character you mentioned have the exact same hands but with different colored claws also pains me. and the point about the background characters looking more diverse is just funny tbh; the fact basically all the main cast wears the exact same suit style is quite repetitive. i noticed that vox and alastor especially look quite similar and mirror each other, evident of how they are rivals trying to constantly one up each other, but it doesn't stand out because other characters have the same schick-
I really admire Mali's segment in this video at 9:33 where she goes on a small diversion about how people with specific heritages don't always look like the social "norm" or "stereotype. I am of Maori heritage (which is the native of New Zealand) and it is best seen from my mum who has dark skin and hair, (though she is not extremely dark and she doesnt have the specific mannerisms as one would expect from a Maori stereotype) but on the opposite side of that is my dad who is born in NZ but his mum is originally from south end on sea in the UK so my dad is very pale/ slightly tan, blue eyes, blonde/mouse blonde hair and ect. I inherited my dad's traits physically (apart from being male haha). I have pale skin, blonde hair, blue eyes ect however I do like to take interest in my Māori heritage and culture and do try to integrate that culture into my own life and so to hear Mali talk about how people from specific heritages or cultures don't have to look like what is "traditional" or "the majority" resonated with me because I have had people ask me wether or not I was taking the piss of my heritage or asked if I was straight up lying for specific gains or purposes that I could have with being Māori because I don't look like I would be of Maori descent at all. I appreciate the fact that there are people out there that acknowledge that POC and native cultures need more respect, acknowledgement and representation but also recognising that "the majority" or the "standard" isn't representative of the entire population.
The issue with pocs depiction in Hazbin often comes down to how mostly consistently almost all the characters that are poc are shown straight hair, them being ashy ex:Alastor, Emily, Vaggie. Not to mention the other features that could have been used for them besides skin color, one of the things that feels like a missed opportunity on Hazbin's part is the lack of diverse hair textures, or hair styles that could have been worn by them and such especially if they are from time eras and some hair styles for poc, especially black people mixed and non mixed could have had. They could have added even little edges and other such things to show this. If almost all the characters who are poc consistently just are done one specific way than it adds to only showing one group of specific poc which doesn't help others be seen. I really would have enojyed seeing different hair textures for the poc cast or hairstyles from their cultural if they worn some- hell even the outfits and such could have been nice to do as well, poc rep in Hazbin just feels like a missed opportunity
Here again! I think the main thing that excited me by the end of the series was Vox and Alastor's dynamic. There is SO much to work with when it comes to those two, ESPECIALLY because of their history together. AND Vox's insane hate obsession with Alastor going so deep as to cause the TV man hate boners always gets me. And the fact Vox copies nearly everything about Alastor (as goes for Al), such as his clothing style, somewhat laid-back personality, movements and indoor knowledge about the Radio Demon. The two even share matching OUTFITS in some episodes (episode 2 Vox is dressed up as a priest while in episode 5 Alastor is dressed up as a Nun) as well as similar ways of expressing body language. It's quite obvious these two at least KNEW each other, let alone were at least friends at some point before their big fight and Alastor leaving for 7 years, which again, brings SO much speculation on what could've happened between them. (which I'm guessing was Vox leaning into the Vees and wanting Alastor to join his team, as expressed in "Stayed Gone") And hearing about in Vivzie's stream that the Vees are going to be the main antagonist excites me beyond belief you have no idea. And in all honestly, I think these two were BUSINESS partners, and trusted each other a LOT. As in episode 8 when Vox and Valentino do their short duet in "Finale", a knife is thrown at a torn picture of Alastor, which if you look closely has a bit of Vox's head (presumably his more box TV head) in the shot. The fact Alastor trusted Vox enough to take pictures and such with him suggests they either had something more or were extremely close, because Alastor doesn't even let CHARLIE film him. (and sure, he let her use his cane, but I'm sure we all know Alastor is planning something evil) So the fact these two knew each other enough that Alastor let Vox take pictures with him makes me sprawl on the floor with pure joy. ALSO, somewhat off topic but... How does Vox know Alastor has hooves? (as shown in his childish drawing of Alastor during "Stayed Gone") Sure you could guess because he's a deer, and Charlie has hooves because shes hellborn, but Alastor is so private about his body it would be nearly impossible to catch a glimpse of his full arm, let alone his LEGS. So the fact Vox knows he has hooves and uses it to try and demeen him on live television as if its some insecurity interests me so much, especially in the pilot (which I know is partially uncanon, but bear with me) when Angel Dust showed off a gross letter of someone asking for his feet, which is still unknown to the public. So the fact people don't know what Angel Dust's lower legs look like but Vox knows ALASTOR'S, is making me grin ear-to-ear. I rest my case. Radiostatic for life.
Did you notice that when Alastor is emphasising a point, the radio effect is switched off, but when Vox is making a pointed remark, his voice has an added effect? Equal but opposite.
I understand ur point abt the representation of poc, characters, but (talking abt black characters specifically here) it becomes a problem when ALL of the characters are that ashy grey... Sera isnt too bad bc she has a brown undertone, but all of the other black characters, Alastor, Velvette and Emily are washed out. The only thing that made me realise Velvette was black is when she had an afro in one scene, and Alastor from when Viv confirmed it. There are many other ways their skin can be coloured to show their demons, but also black, for example Velvette could be a darker purple, Steven Universe Garnet style and she would look SO much better. Going to your point once again, yes every poc will look different, some will be lighter, some will have straight hair, however (once again talking abt black ppl specifically) it IS those lighter skinned, straight haired black characters who are seen in media, and for hazbin it just shows a lack of diversity and maybe a hint of colourism...
I personally don’t see a problem with the greyish skin tones for darker skinned characters purely for the fact that white and other races are all represented with unnatural skin tones. Charlie is paper white, Mimzy is a greyish yellow etc. the characters are either not human or used to be so in that regard i don’t understand the issue.
Thanks for the nice comment! (I hope I'm not coming off as rude, I find this conversation and topic rlly interesting!!) The fact that they aren't human IS another reason why all the darker skinned characters shouldn't be grey, same with the characters of other races. There isn't realism restricting what colours the characters can be, as I said before with the Steven Universe example there are ways a character's race can be conveyed without using human skin tones. I don't know if I'm wording this clearly lol, not just from a racial/social perspective, but from a character design perspective too, having all darker skinned characters be grey just isn't very original (I can't think of a better word no disrespect to Viv), same with white characters being just paper white. Sorry for this being so long
@@ruby-tv9sy The main issue is that they almost always do this to poc characters especially the ones that are coded to be poc while being non human as said by the other commenter, it's more so the fact that gray skin ends up being used when you can easily use other skin tones to get a nice nonhuman skin tone that still helps cement the characters being poc, like instead of gray maybe have the angels like a sort of purple or blue tone ish? It would be nice to see added on there instead of the gray skin tone. There's many ways they could have gone but went with gray skin tones which is done too much that people don't wanna see that used on poc as much
I agree alot with the Alastor critique, i wish they still kept his way if speaking aswell. Like how he used words from the era he died in in the pilot, or used swears and edgy connotations outwardly more sparingly. He could still use them when hes panicked or otherwise but i feel in the pilot hes one of the only characters (besides katie killjoy) whos characterization i think worked a bit better in some aspects. You could feel that he still posed a threat but didnt have to say it outright
About the kids being in hell thing, I remember reading that kids can go to hell as they haven't accomplished anything in life, falling under the sloth sin. I don't think that's right but just something I read a few years back.
@@CosmiccNova That's interesting. As a kid, I always got the impression that kids would go to hell if they actively did things they knew were wrong, willingly sinning, so the idea of going to hell as a child was never far fetched for me. The idea of it being automatic would have given me a mental breakdown, I'm sure.
I think it’s more about being unbaptised. Traditionally sloth referred to people who didn’t fulfil their obligations to God, which in a way made unbaptised babies slothful by default. This is all old medieval church propaganda nonsense, but I think that’s sort of where the idea comes from.
As a guy in his 30s, Hazbin Hotel has found a special place in my heart. Lucifier was a character I related to more then I wanted to admit publicly and it ended up making me be more open about being a long distance dad and not be scared sharing it. For that, I am actually very grateful for the show, because I have learned to not feel as guilty about my situation as I used to to feel and people has not be judgmental at all towards me. "My daughter wants to see me! Take that depression!" is literally me everytime my kid asks for a video call with me. Amazing insight and video!!! Despite it's flaws, I do agree with alot of what you said!
Great video! While I enjoy Hazbin Hotel a lot, I'm still very aware of it's flaws and don't consider it perfect. You bring up some great points and as always, lay them out fairly and coherently. Well done for another great video Mali!
I give you trash video about gay devils, now I await your next angst animatic to rip my heart out. Equivalent exchange. (Thanks for hanging out in the premier Grimmi! qwq)
Thank u I agree Charlie has the same problem as Steven as main character being they have sympathy but no empathy which makes their attempts to reaps hollow and can cause problems for her helping the sinners because if u go back to 4 it was husk who helped angel not Charlie
Do you mean Steven Universe? I heard he does have empathy. Creators stated he got it from his father's side. As for husk being the one to help, I'm fine with it because in Steven Universe may people complained that Steven was used as the solution to conflict TOO MANY times. Like in the movie, there are understandable arguments for Steven not being the one to talk down the villain in the end due to what happened in the movie's third act.
@@DrawciaGleam02 Steven has sympathy not empathy for example the bisthmus situation Steven lacked empathy for her as for Charlie for her to help her residents she needs to understand them which she doesn’t do and it’s not treated as an actual problem
@@WeebGuru6 Ah. I see. I feel the finale of Hazbin is more in line with people's expectations for how season 5 of SU would end: Charlie is unable to get Heaven's help and has to fight them. Basically that's how people felt things should have happened when Steven tried to negotiate with the Diamonds.
I’ve always had a problem where I just don’t criticize things or find fault at all. A lot of the books I’ll read I’ll love them and then hear people complain when I had literally no complaints. Same with shows. Idk why I’m like this but I never find fault.
As a demisexual, I can safely say, that the Hazbin fandom CANNOT handle a sexually repulsed Ace character. And a creator who isn't even Ace saying "go nuts" shows the issue with Ace erasure. Yes, shipping is for fun and ace ppl can be sexual; however, Alastor has not ONCE shown any interest in sex or romantic relationships with others. The Alastor shippers are actively and whether on purpose or not participating in ace erasure. Ace people don't get rep very often and when we do, the character is automatically made into a sexual ace rather than how they actually are, sex-repulsed or otherwise. In Al's case, he is sex repulsed ace man. Stop making him have sex with everyone. He might be romantic but he isn't sexual. fix your fan art accordingly if you actually care about your Ace homies who are extremely uncomfortable with it. If you have to make sexual art of Al keep it to your friends and stop making ace ppl uncomfortable.
The only one that I can easily tell is that of Nifty because she's the small one but beyond that I can't identify the rest from each other since their body types all look the same at least design-wise, The Judgmental Critter did a better job at explaining this.
As someone on the aspec, it does drive me a little bit nutty how the majority of characters we get as rep in indie projects (I am also referring specifically to Hemera from Sparklecare here) are either antagonistic or straight-up villains. Like, I know allo orientations don't fair much better, but it seems like when a character IS ace, they're never just ace. It makes sense, right? This character is a villain or mean, so obviously they don't feel affection for other people as much as our protagonists. /s That said, Alastor is pretty okay all things considered. He's a cool guy, and there's way more to him than just being ace. I'm happy to put him next to Todd in the Ace Icon Hall of Fame.
As someone who’s a massive fan of Hazbin Hotel, this was genuinely a nice critique. This didn’t feel malicious in the slightest. It feels like you genuinely want this show to succeed. Seriously you, SaberSpark, & Cartoonshi’s critique on the show. Are genuinely nice 👍 Also you weren’t annoying about it. That’s-that’s also very important
If we want the show to succeed, then the creator has to see the error of their ways first and actually commit to changing for the better. And as we have learned time and time again, we can't force people to change; they have to actually *want* to change themselves for the better. And I have seen and heard of people who don't want to change at all, despite how awful they are to other people. Otherwise, nothing will actually improve. I really do want to give people the benefit of the doubt, but the last time I did that, they ended up turning out to be some really awful people. I don't want to experience that again; I don't want to be a fool again!
You know you can be both? Ace isn't lack of romantic interests thats aromatic Im ace and lesbian, i want a relationship but am very clear that I mainly just want a romantic relationship and not a sexual one and those are my boundaries A lot of the drama comes from is that people don't know if AL is actually aromatic, the ace part got confirm but people are not sure the aromatic part is confirmed and the people who do believe its canon cause two voices actors said it, but vivzi herself hasn't confirmed it yet are just upset people are shipping Al with others since theres already little rep for Ace, Aro and AroAce Which i do understand too since whenever I see ace represented their still depreciated as hyper sexual or willing to break their boundaries for their partner cause its still taboo or weird to want a relationship with no sex Its why tod from bojack is my favorite cause he is clear about his boundaries and wants to be respected in the fact that he wants a relationship but not a sexual one and he finds a partner who is like him so they're purely both comfortable. Purely romantic relationship can be a thing but people treat it as impossible which is just sad
I agree Tod is great Ace rep and that the show handles it very well. I'm of the opinion that Alastor is ace/aro but I agree that a lot of drama comes from the lack of clarity on his romantic orientation. I wish viv would come out and clarify it to settle it. It's sad seeing how most Alastor ships tho (regardless if they think he's aro or not) still puts him in sexual relationships and disregards his ace identity. I hate the excuse that some people in the aspec community still feel sexual/romantic attraction bc they only use the it as an excuse to disregard his and many other ace character's sexuality instead of an actual understanding of the community.
eh, fictional characters being claimed as poc by the creator is very different than real people being descendants of poc. people are allowed to be mad that alastor isnt depicted moreso with poc features. If we just called every white passing character a poc then what would be the use of visibly poc characters? the narrative is limited, is the point. there are billions of visible poc IRL alongside white-passing direct descendants of poc, but when the /only/ representation we get of certain races is minimally thought through... ugh.
9:45 Holly shit! I'm aboriginal with white skin, long straight red hair, blue eyes, and freckles. My Dad is Aboriginal, Irish, Torres Strait Islander, amongst various other things, and my Mum is British and Irish. I'm female but identify as nonbinary. What are the odds!?
I used to be a fan of viz but she's really mean and stuck up she blocked me on twitter in 2022 bc I said in my own personal tweet "I don't really don't mind the need for redesigns but I don't have alot of hope for alastors new va because its hard to find the perfect voice for characters from an older time period." I knew that I didn't want to support or give my money towards her projects. Why should I support someone who doesn't even respect her own fans ? However, as an artist myself I do have alot to say about the show. I find viz to be insanely lazy with: 1 the bodies are always the same, if not for niffy, carmilla and mimzy they all blend together. 2 The voice acting isn't good especially for Valentino, Katy killjoy, Adam and rosie. 3 The angels are underwhelming and just look like pastel demons (wich would be fine if not for the fact viz has sinner designs in heaven. If their hell forms are based on their sins in life why wouldn't they be look like normal people in heaven? Also why does Adam look like every other demon? I'm so sick of every demon looking like an imp or furry. 4 adult animation doesn't/SHOULDN'T= constant swearing. It's lazy and it comes off as what a kid thinks "Adult animation" means. Cussing and dirty jokes don't equal maturity. 5 alot of things about the world building doesn't make sense. Adam ate the fruit and swears too why isn't he in hell? And why isn't sir pentious in his human form in heaven ? Why is he still a snake ? Viz is an incredibly lazy and entitled person, when you really think about HB/HBH isn't special or unique. Alot of stories are set in hell and some "hellborn royal" marysue oc.
The angel humans turning into some sort of creature in heaven makes NO sense to me. 😬 I feel like it erases their human identity. Like I'm glad Sir Pentious wasn't erased from existence, but I expected to see his human version, not just his snake form, but white and purple. Like he was SOMEONE ELSE before being Sir Pentious...
The Adam thing specially Like, isn't the whole deal with that apple being eaten that it was the ORIGINAL SIN? That it was so bad that they kicked Lucifer out of heaven for giving it to them?
Idk I'd be bummed if I got stuck with just a human body for eternity in a supposed paradise but that's just me. Also many winners are just humans with wings as seen at the end of 'Welcome to heaven'.
What bothers me about people pointing to Vox and Alastor when talking about same-y design, is that they're missing what's obviously trying to be conveyed here. With everything going on between Vox and Alastor, it would not seem far fetched to assume that Vox intentionally tries to emulate Alastor's style. They quite literally have the same suit jacket in different colors. (They have a lot more in common as well, especially how they act. The table scratching, the static followed by a 'what did you say', the constant smiling (though vox drops it fast when not in public), the nun outfit being an obvious call back to Vox's earlier outfit, literally the scene in the tv studio in the begining vs the radio tower at the end in stayed gone, you see where i'm going. We're supposed to draw a massive connection between the two of them). I'd also like to throw Pentious into the mix, how he explicitly stated he wants the Vees to respect him in a way that implies he's been trying for a while and wears a similar suit to Vox. Do I wish it could be shown more subtly? Yeah a little bit.
For me personally it just doesn't make sense for the modern guy who wants to keep up with the trends (who has a fashion designer as business partner no less) to dress up in a bowtie and a top hat. Velvette literally rips models apart if they don't meet her standards and she's letting Vox walk around looking like that? The Vox + Alastor parallels would still come through if you just replaced the bowtie with a straight tie imo. The bows don't bother me as much on other characters even if it is a missed opportunity to convey what time period these characters are from through their neckwear.
@@moo9874 oh no i fully agree with that. Vox's design has things it needs to improve, stat. I'm just bothered that people put him and Alastor as the biggest example of same-y character design, when that was the intention of the artist, a creative decision. Can the execution be critiqued though? Yes absolutely. But critique it as such
"I can't figure out if I'm Ace or Pan" Maybe one of the other ones under the Ace umbrella like Demi? There's a lot of sub-forms of ace where there is attraction but only contextually? (Demi for example is only when you know someone really well)... IDK.
Nifty was changed to Japanese when they casted the voice actor. That’s party why you can’t tell. The issue with Alastor is that the dear theming implies he’s Native American. Because it’s very wendigo themed.
I have this to say about first season. It is long They should have cut MOST of the plot lines and put in maybe only Angel Redemption where you can focus on it. Let this one idea be focused on and be well developed. Let it be the overarching goal of the season. Redeeming your first sinner and make it feel impactful so even if you do not have a season 2 you still have one cohesive story with beginning, middle and end that can end on an impactful and hopeful note as you explore what it means to redeem someone and feel the weight of redemption when it finally happens. You can explore in depth the most important element of the story, the thing that this story is build upon and what the titular Hotel is all about. Redemption. Through that you can delve into Angel's character, show his flaws and issues that he has to overcome, sins he committed in life he has to atone for and get over and people that he hurt through them. Delve into this idea and explore it as much as you can and when redemption happens you know how much it takes to redeem someone and what it means. And then if you DO get Season 2 you can show this happen a lot faster with more sinners and that would lead to sense of progression around which you can write more drama. Maybe with Charlie who may be getting more and more conflicted as she sees people she grows to care about go away. Also this allows you to take more time with character interactions. Make them more varied. Maybe through trying to get this one person redeemed you can have everyone contribute in their own way where you can either learn more about them, Angel or both and around that can be made unique interactions between ALL of the characters and it lets you explore more of the hotel which helps you care about it. And it also can lead you to introduce more characters, but those would be all centered around this story and one goal, making it make sense and be cohesive when they show up. It would immensely help with character interactions which are LAUGHABLY sparse as characters barely interact with one another besides the ship pairs like Vaggie and Charlie or Husk and Angel where neither of those even have much of a chemistry at all and require the audience to already be invested in those. Which makes the entire cast feel very shallow. Not to mention that we barely spend any time at the hotel and we see barely any location inside it besides the main hall so when it finally is broken we feel nothing as we barely got to know that location. And it's fixed in ONE song. That's not how you do it. Think about it. All of those emotional beats. First redeemed sinner. Death of Pentious. Death of Dazzle. Destruction of the Hotel. Appearance of Heaven. All of it feels WEAK as none of those ideas were given proper time and so they are barely noticeable. And that was the ONLY chance Viv had at doing those. And she wasted them on this rushed season. And let me tell you. If I had a choice between putting all of my ideas into one story and almost all of them being underdeveloped and bad in execution or putting fewer ones and letting them be developed into something great then I choose the latter. People may not see all of my ideas, but those they will, they will remember and looked back at fondly. Something I DO NOT think will happen with this. As for Helluva Boss. I think it's season 2 has LOTS of issues that HH has here. Lack of nuance in morality, main premise gets pretty much abandoned, the writing is not that good and the setting is SO underutilized, you could place this show at this point anywhere besides Hell and it would not change much. HH I think has that last issue too with how little comes up the topic of earth and lives those sinners had before they got in Hell which should be by all means the main focus.
I strongly relate to Angel Dust as a character. I'm a transman and a survivor that used to cope with addiction and giving away my body carelessly, even if I didn't truly want to. I'd act and dress provocatively so that when people use me or reject me, it's not the real me that gets hurt, but the persona I'd put on. I love the way it's depicted, the ugliness and hurt wrapped up in a pretty little bow, because that's exactly how I felt. Like a broken person that came in an appealing package, one that anyone will throw away as soon as the decorative exterior is gone. I hate the way twitter treats Angel's character arc and depiction, makes me feel like my experience isn't valid just because I act differently than they expect a survivor to behave. Thanks for talking about it, Mal ❤
I love this show, I went from zero to fanfiction in less than a week. Husk is the best, and my favourite fanfiction is him found sleeping in different places, like in a sunbeam or an empty box. My problem with Alistor being ace is the fanbase who do fanfics and porn pics about him. Of course he's problematic, he's an edgelord formed from the darkest corners of Tumblr and therefore Problematic on several fronts. I agree that the most awesome use of him would be to make him a big bad, having him do a last minute double cross in favour of Charlie's project would be ok by me I was hoping that Husk was another ace, but since he has been confirmed to be destined to be with Angel Dust, I'm going with it. He wouldn't have been unproblematic either, since a stereotype of aces is past trauma. Overall, it feels to me like they crammed as much into it as they could out of fear that they wouldn't have another chance. I have no clue if the behind the scenes for when they knew they were getting a second season, but these days, there's no guarantee that when you're given a two season deal, it won't be cut after a disappointing first season. There were so many fan favourites from the pilot, and a huge fanbase that have been pushing for this project for years, that I imagine it would have been hard to cut stuff. As it is, I find the show very rewatchable bevause I see different things every time.
The kids part, here's a possibility. The kids in hell are there because they ARE as evil as the rest of sinners. Sorry but there's is such evil kids in real life
8:35 I will say, one thing that really made me appreciate Lucifer's design was how someone pointed out he resembles an apple core, and I love that as a little reference.
31:47 you can be Ace and Pan at the same time . Personally, I’m demi/gray asexual, and panromantic . Alastor is canonically AroAce, and even tho they say Husk is Pansexual, I personally I feel like Husk specifically is Panromantic and Demisexual . Unsurprisingly, it’s all a spectrum lol . Welcome to the Complexly Confusing Asexual Spectrum Club 😇💜🤍🩶🖤
It’s so sad that due to so many bad faith criticisms (mainly on Twitter) it’s made me initially weary of most critical videos. I’m glad I watched yours though! While I personally adored this show, the flaws are still present. Viv has shown she’s not too afraid to go farther with her characters, so I hope Alastor’s story (be it redemption or becoming a full villain) is explored fully. Great video! Definitely hitting the subscribe button
I do appreciate this video, and it was a lot of fun! However, I wish you delved into more things about the show, like the rest of the cast, the setting, how much the story kind of stops its premise for an entirely different one, etc. Your input on the topics you do mention were very interesting, but I wish there was more. 😅
i am also fearful that Alastor is not going to be EVi. or at least morally gray. Mimzy's whole deal made me concerned. 9:10 is a really good argument about people's negative reaction to Alastor being white passing.
Given your criticisms of Hazbin, i would suggest LovesArt23’s rewrite of it. You seem to have similar issues (i.e. too many ideas in one, too busy designs, confusing themes)
Hazbin Hotel, to me: animation's good, but there are moments that are too busy and distracting. like they were trying to do too much but only made the segment look weird because it had so much movement (dad of hell is a great example of that) . In fact alot of moments made my eyes tired with so much unnecessary movement The Musical numbers were good, but could've being better. The majority of them weren't as catchy or memorable to me The story is a mess. There are too many characters, little development, unnecessary situations that bring nothing to the season, a lack of understanding of timing and serious situations, a lukewarm main character with a boring loving interest. Seriously, the worst, I have seen Vivizie's team writing being so far. It was unbearable. So much so that I couldn't even finish the season in full. I could only end the season with reviews and short moments, and only later I sucked up to watch the rest It can be serviceable, but the writing is so bad it makes it impossible to anyone that isn't a vivizie fan to fully enjoy it without being angry with some choices or notice the issues.
49:20 To be honest, most of those shows are based on books or pre-established media, they already had a story and the development of the show itself was more like *polishing* that story.
I overall agree here, though one thing I would say re:critiques of the show in terms of theology is that the show really likes to reference the Christian Bible in particular for naming of characters, but in making that specific choice and THEN sidestepping any engagement with that religion's tenets and background, it feels really weird and a hugely missed opportunity to critique a value system. God doesn't seem to exist, but angels and demons do, there's an automatic system in place sorting people into "good people" and "bad people" and I think it's kind of important both plot-wise and thematically what exactly that value system functions on in order to actually make it a major part of the show. It starts becoming an issue the more you think about it. Nobody knows how they get into heaven or hell, and it takes place in modern day but Moses is nowhere to be found, yet there's Saint Peter but also no Jesus. Adam, but no Eve or Abel or Cain. What is sin? WHAT IS REDEMPTION?! Does what these people did in life play at all into why they are where they are, or is that just ~fun lore~
I feel like a lot of people didn't understand what poison is supposed to represent, if it seems like its romanticizing SA than yeah it kinda does but that's because ANGEL DUST is romanticizing his own abuse. Its literally in the lyrics, he's miserable but he's also addicted to it. But yeah the SA joke with snake boy was.... really weird and I wish everyone actually focused on that instead of trying to twist Angels stuff into smthng its not just because Angel Dust's situation is a lot more complex.
It shouldnt have been a pop song, it's tactless and doesnt take the topic seriously. Her shows just mainly take these situations as jokes and it's disgusting.
My biggest problem is the fact that Vaggie didn’t know angels could be harmed. I’m sorry what!? She had her wings ripped off and her eye gouged out!? You would think she would know that angels like her can be harmed!
AroAce person here, hello~ ! Since you so kindly asked for our input I am here to give my thoughts. Gonna prefix this by saying that I really like Alastor as a character. What can I say, mans hot and I like characters that look like they're plotting the best way to kill you. As for AroAce rep all I can say is,, it's fine ? He's no Todd Chavez, but generally speaking, he doesn't really do anything to make him good or bad AroAce rep. I was drunk through 50% of the show so maybe I missed an important part of this, who knows, but him being AroAce is sort of only a thing thats brought up outside of the show. Like if you're a casual viewer who doesn't engage with the community you wont ever actually know that he's AroAce. Which I guess I can't blame, both Aromanticism and Asexuality are stuff that you don't just randomly bring up or showcase. Like if the show had a scene where Alastor said "Haha no I am not interested in Romance or Sex at all !" it would feel super out of place and be super forced. Think High Guardian Spice and Transness, that show forced explanations when they really could've tackled them in a different way. So by how the show portrays him as AroAce - he's fine. Mostly cuz there's basically no real way to fuck it up on screen. All of that being said however,, Alastor being the only AroAce rep in the show *can* be seen as a sort of hurtful stereotype of Aro/Ace people. A lot of media that has Aro/Ace characters tend to portray them as either cold, emotionless and basically not human [ seeing as most Ace characters are made to be robots or aliens ] or literally so evil that they could never love anybody ever. Alastor *could* be seen as the latter. Some could say that since Alastor is borderline a villain, a lot of people could interpret him being AroAce as a simple "he can't love anybody on a romantic level, he is evil to the bone", seeing as he's the only character of the bunch [ from my knowledge at least ] that is a murderer and a cannibal. Some could view this as the reason for him being AroAce and in all fairness I couldn't blame them. Its a bit of a shame that the only character who is AroAce is someone that could fall under a bad stereotype umbrella. Do I personally have an issue with him in this regard ? No. Do I think this is what the writers intended when they made him AroAce ? Unsure to be honest. I've seen first hand how much Allos struggle to understand Aro/Ace people and, even when they have good intentions, they tend to place us into one or more of those hurtful stereotypes. Its something thats unfortunately very common as most people don't really want to make their best most emotional characters Aro or Ace because it would taking away the possibility of them or anybody else engaging with the story not be able to ship the character with anybody in either a romantic or sexual way would take a lot out of their own personal enjoyment [ this sentence is a cluster fuck im so sorry i just dont know how else to explain it ]. I mean fuck just look at how the fandom treats Alastor. Most people don't really give a shit that he's AroAce and so they draw porn and ship art of him regardless. And while yes, AroAce ppl can have sex and be in romantic relationships, when it comes to fictional media that don't explore the AroAce characters' identities in depth, those sort of things should be left untouched. So even though I really really want to say that I don't believe the writers made Alastor AroAce just bcuz he's evil and is the least likely person to fall in love with somebody, I in my years of personal experience cannot really comfortably side with them. Does this mean that he's automatically bad rep ? No, like I said I think he's fine, I just wish there was another character to balence this out.
I hope Viv does give more info on his asexuality. Personally I’d rather it be explained outside of the show rather than in. I can’t really see a way to naturally work it into the show, maybe in later seasons. I’m not asexual so that could be part of the issue too. How would you work it into the show?
Borderline Villain? No, he straight up is a villain. The dude is a psycho and made it clear he's there for his amusement (someone's else's will, but that's a later thing...) he's just not an antagonist. Like Mayuri from Bleach.
i think OFTEN about how i would "fix" hazbin. its just still such a "pilot" and proof of concept. once they learned it was 8 episodes, they shouldve cut like 80% of the material. seriously the season shouldve ended with charlie meeting up with adam for that meeting. im not joking. i would TOTALLY restructure. we should follow vaggie. she has JUST been cast out of heaven and is walking aimlessly. she hears about this "happy hotel" that redeems sinners to send them to heaven and she hightails it over there. title screen. IMMEDIATELY this gives vaggie a motivation, charlie someone that actually wants to be redeemed, alastor can come in episode 2 or 3 with mysterious motivations aka he hears rumors of the hotel (and of vaggie from someone like camilla carmine at a meeting and confronting vaggie at some point late season or next season), and this gives you time to settle in with charlie, vaggie and angel dust. oh and the little dragons should be there day one and constantly around charlie to show that theyre actually fuckin doing something. i stg viv needs to learn to kill her babies or shes going to drive someone else to do it for her. if the next season is bad im just gonna start writing and animating my own fuckin version
ALSO the vees shouldve been the threats all season. vox and alastor(obvi), val and angel, and i think velvette and vaggie couldve been neat. velvette is just as nosy as vox and shes the one that knows about the angel being killed. she could be suspicious of vaggie as soon as she sees footage of her in town from vox's camers and start investigating. possibly being the reason alastor is also suspicious. i think her being two-faced and working with alastor could connect back to the whole social media thing she has going on. theres so much potential here it pisses me off. viv PLEASE
@@chloe54251 it made no sense having LITERALLY HEAVEN ITSELF the villain for the FIRST SEASON. What now? They already caught the big fish so what’s the point in continuing the story honestly. You should totally rewrite Hazbin your version makes so much more sense.
Y'know, Vaggie dating Charlie specifically for the stability of it (knowing she was super rich and the kid of Lucifer, nice, naive etc) would have been way more interesting of a conflict than "oh I need to protect my gf". Vaggie being straight for that matter and just pretending she's in love with Charlie (and thus her chances of getting back into heaven are way harder because now she's actually lying, doing stuff she once looked down upon to survive).
Eh, definitely worth the 7 bob (POI, Wordwall below. In my defence, the longer a video is, the more I have to say on it. Totally not my fault...... Also I can't compound worth doodly) Charlie's songs about her project definitely are really annoying. I know I'm just a Grinch, but seven hells! I also have a lot of gripe about Charlie's privilege, and complete and utter understanding of how irredeemable some of Hells residents are. Not to mention how fucking selfish and arrogant her complete disregard for the Saints in favour of the Sinners is. I've already written fecking paragraphs, so I won't, though. It is interesting to note, however, how well she embodies Pride in this regard Speaking of, Alastor, Vox, and Lucifer probably look that way because of Lucifer. Each Deadly Sin has characteristics (Lava lamp stomach - Gluttony/Queen Bee, Moth characteristics - Lust/Asmodeus), and Pride/Lucifer seem to be formal attire; i.e., Pride in your appearance I know the show is about Charlie, but by Oblivion, I really hope Alastor take centre stage in further seasons. His capacity and desire to rule the Pride Ring (My theory) is likely only matched by a few entities. Which is an interesting point to make about Alastor being truly evil. It really is a case of an unaccepting fandom. Handsome Jack is an excellent example of this. Yes, he's loved by the Borderlands fandom, but none of us can deny that he is truly evil. Jack is an absolute monster, but we still love him. Alastor is the same. The only difference is that the fandom is too pearl clutchy to truly accept him for it. The Hazbin fandom is very volatile. Though as to where Alastor will end by series' end, I actually believe he will perish. Unless there's going to be a spin-off, he will try to take the throne of Lucifer and will either be killed trying or be imprisoned, vowing to get revenge (Side note, being Ace myself, the only annoying thing about Alastor being Ace is the fandoms attempt to erase it. Also, can't you be Ace and Pan at the same time?) On the SA thing, I think it being uncomfortable is the idea. I think the idea is for people to try to get an understanding at least, of what's like and why it's not as simple as "Just leave them". That bring said, I hate Valentino so damned much, I cannot wait for Angel to shoot him or Alastor to tear him apart to fuck with Vox (Alternatively a favour deal with Angel) 49:55 I truly hate how this bull has become the norm. I miss the old days of 20 something episodes that were 40 minutes long. I sincerely hope whoever enforced this trend has a permanent itch that constantly moves, or is always stubbing their toe (Also, you could always make a 6th creature based on the technoshark. Or make a technoshowl. That'd be cute)
(This is gunna be another word wall, sorry) The reason why I believe she is selfish is her complete and utter disregard for the Saint's mental health Look at it this way. Charlie believes that every single Sinner can be redeemed. Every Sinner. That includes Valentino Now, just using Angel Dust as an example, can you imagine how Angel would feel if he ascending to Heaven, for Valentino to show up a couple of months later? Another example would be other victims of assault. If every Sinner can be redeemed, that includes rapist, groomers, zoophiles, paedophiles, Nazis, and other similar degenerates. So imagine if there was a Sinner who was rped to death and was sent to Heaven. Can you imagine how sickening, how horrified they would be to see the very monster who pit them there, rocking up at Heaven like thier atrocities are somehow null and void for being a good person for a couple of months Lastly, Sir Pentius is a good example. Yes, he redeemed himself, but we've no idea what he did before he died. Multiple scenes imply he was a general of some sort, and if he was a general, he could have ordered the deaths of thousands in one capacity or another Charlie's belief that every single Sinner can be redeemed includes monsters like Valentino and the Zodiac Killer. It includes the worst people that ever existed. Her belief is selfish because she is only concerned about the Sinners, pretending that even though some of them actually belong there, they all deserve redemption
@@AshValentine. Believe me, you're not the only one to state something like that. Because of that viewpoint, prior to the finale I thought the show was going for the route where our cast become better people but still don't enter heaven. Before your response though, I thought you felt Charlie was selfish due to something suggested by another reviewer of Hazbin, Cellspex. She gave a good reason why most demons aren't keen on Charlie's plan......
Fraid I don't know who that is. I only watch Cartoon Universe, and that's only because I enjoy Deepcuts wit I imagine Vivziepop will address these concerns in the show, probably using a Saint or Emily, explaining to Charlie these concerns. Personal growth and all that
@@AshValentine. Cellspex is another cartoon reviewer. She has her own witty moments! Don't wanna spoil her view on the premise, but when she stated it, I was alll...... "oh, that kinda makes sense"
" Why are minorities in hell, it must be bigotry" The problem with this reasoning ( apart from " muh morality") is it assumes the world of the show is same as the author's stance which is wrong in itself but even if you want to pull it you'd have to also assume that the author thinks the shows world is right or correct which is EXPLICITLY not the case in Hazbin, the world or mechanics are explicitly shown to be incorrect. Hell is unfair, it's denizens are supposed to be sympathetic and the mechanism that lands then there is said to be wrong and by contrast , the " morally perfect" Heaven is shown to be at best naively unaware, more often indifferently baraucratic, and most often just sadistic assholes.
Umm from what everyone believes, the denizens in Pride are not sympathetic and Pentious is SOMEHOW the first to be redeemed, it's not the first day of Hell, it's the 2020s and HB shows us this with the apps of Hell such as Sinstagram, a human child in C.H.E.R.U.B.S. having a shirt with Craftmine and mention of Hitler and Epstein by Mayberry.
I LOVE your take on Hazbin Hotel, cuz this show has a ton of flaws, the only good things about HH is the music, animation, and visuals. Writing in the pacing NEEDS HELP. The plot is good but, needs more attention.
As for the design's being samey, same color pallet, stripes or some other complex patter like dots etc, same body type (not even make them fat or buff like all the same body torso silhouette even), there's a "variety" but it's held back by a pattern on how viv designs her characters. Hell everyone with a suit has the same tux, all it would take is just to change the type of over vest there wearing to a U neck, or 4 button pattern.
@@ScritRighter so ah… about that. Technically I might not make any money from this video depending on what happens with the copyright claims so right now I don’t even have control of the ads. QwQ
@ScritRighter yeah the dispute has a 30 day window and most of the claims were cleared in a day or two but there’s still two on there that I think are just waiting the timer out. I waited about 2 weeks before saying screw it and posting the video. Harls thinks the Adsense should go to me once the copyright claims clear so might be fine?
[ 4:12] I have never seen Buffy the Vampire Slayer, nor did I know it had a musical episode, but as soon as I saw the first second my mind immediately went to it 🤣
As a person of color I do find it weird that you keep dismissing criticisms about the shows very poor depiction of people of color. Ffs Alastor’s voodoo is a complete misunderstanding of a heavily demonized African religion and Viv half heartedly claimed he was mixed race/creole to avoid criticism. Also. Yes, people should talk about religious themes and media in a show that wants to criticize Christianity and its moral beliefs. Do you genuinely think there wasn’t an agenda with portraying hell as the cool place with all the gays and horny people and heaven was a very morally righteous, anti-queer space that didn’t believe in redemption. Dont make a show with religious themes, try to criticize the religion and then go “omg why are you guys so obsessed with religion”. YOU did that! Not us!
is not even a criticism to those things, i genuinly don't see them. By the way, no, in this universe heaven is not against gays, Vaggie is from heaven, and she is a lesbian. and they are those at the top who do not believe that redemption is possible, the rest of the people in heaven are mostly unknown.
Does anyone else have a honey moon esque feeling towards Hazbin Hotel? I was late to the bandwagon but I still waited 3 years, I can't tell if I'm just excited for it being here or it's something I genuinely enjoy.
11:16 good example for a quick explanation, me and my sister's partner are both very pale yet we're mixed indigenous, and I mean pale compared to the other mixed indigenous peeps some of which are the same tribe and generation as me lol
The designs are too Samey in that all of the main characters aside from Nifty have the same body shape. There is no attempt in incorporate shape language or color symbolism. Every character is RED or PINK. And EVERYTHING is red and pink in the backgrounds too!!! The background characters often have better and more diverse looking designs than the main cast.
I think part of it is that a lot of these critiques are coming from the shows main audience: middle schoolers. Who dont really have an understanding of nuance bc their brain hasnt developed it yet (not to mention the black and white thinking of the internet thats making it worse but thats not really what Im talking ab here). Which honestly kinda lines up w Vivzie herself, ik you didnt talk ab her individually, but theres a lot to be said ab her immature writing style that would prevent a cool story line, like that of Charlies privilege, from coming to fruition, I personally dont think Vivzie has the nuance to do so. With the designs thou I think what people mean about the characters all looking same-y, is that if you looked at their silhouettes with none of their easily identifiable physical characteristics, the only one that stands out (of the main cast) is Nifty and thats bc shes short, every other silhouette looks the same in my opinion and not to mention esp the men, theyre all stick figure skinny and all wear the same suit, which makes sense bc these designs were made in middle school, like yea I used to draw every character in the same outfit in 7th grade bc thats what I knew, I just think Vivzie has way too much in her head ab this story and refuses to cut it down, so it feels rushed and poorly written
The main audience is supposed to be adults, the shows literally say "For mature audiences" and warnings it's for adults and adult stuff is being explored & done.
@@artistanthony1007 trust me I know who its meant for but that doesnt mean thats necessarily whos watching it, lets be honest with ourselves, lying about your age on the internet is universal, everyones done it
Vaggie was originally a latino human that died in 2014 and enter Hell, she even in Pilot gets told a sexist joke with word Taco by Angel and takes Al's comment "lonesome sinners" very personally showing it made her feel miserable and her Moth shown with Wing Hair is of Moth same as Valentino with think his Robe Wings, it's obvious that Viv decided to make changes that don't make sense and so like Vaggie, Niffty doesn't speak Japanese at all and not even that.
I really really like angel and his story. I had repetitive and severe assault and personality wise I reacted very similarly to angel. Genuinely I felt seen watching this show.
One thing about the racial representation: they're actually hiring POC voice actors and that counts for SOMETHING. Go look at the VAs for Avatar, for example. It's not ALL white but damn is there a lot of white in there for a show where... are any of the characters white canonically? Anyway, point is, y'know, uh... You know. I miss the slightly more deranged Charlie from the pilot. You're right to call out that she's never experienced the sinner perspective and she's actually (being Hell royalty and also, like, just fundamentally a different type of creature) not someone with the natural empathy and understanding for their situation. As much as she wants to be. This is the perfect setup for someone who is just fucking unhinged, pilot Charlie wanted to do this thing but like... didn't have the slightest clue what it would look like. Why not straight jacket sinners and inject them full of Love Juice? Maybe that'll work! (What kind of drugs were those, pilot!Charlie?) The full show version has some platitudes and ideas and a lot of positivity and stuff but ultimately i'm not sure she's that much better off. It's just less funny. And yeah, the pilot even points out she has tried many, many times to improve things and failed at all of them. That really paints her endless positivity from the show in a different light but the show itself never even brushes up against that. Is that even still canon? There's another thing, where like, yeah. Hey pilot!Charlie, you wanna redeem sinners? Why not go first? But that just won't work with the show's version, not in the same way, and dealing with that... gap between Charlie and the people she's trying to help is just not going to be easy for the show to address. As you note, though, there's a great part about giving cash and other resources to the marginalized (without strings attached, or not that many strings at least) and that is: money doesn't care about intent. Charlie still does let Angel stay there despite him clearly expressing only the minimal amount of interest required to get them to not kick him out. I guess there's a sense in which, really, i wanted a slightly different show that would be more focused on Charlie's own problems rather than everyone else's. Maybe we'll get some of that in season 2. Or 3. The problem with Alastor being the big bad of the show is like... fundamentally he is not that strong. Lucifer could curl him up into a ball and dunk him through all the rings of hell while still drowning in the bouts of depression. The other overlords could gang up on him even if he could take any of them individually (and there's good reason to believe he's not at the top of that stack). The other characters, the Ars Goetia demons and the Deadly Sins we see in Helluva Boss for example, could almost certainly dunk him almost as hard as Lucifer. But he could be the moral big bad. The final one Charlie has to reach through to, the one she has to actually get all her shit together and actually fix all those problems we talked about above to reach. He could be the one who stays true to his selfishness to the end, he could be the one who never accepts Charlie's point of view. We'll see if that actually happens, though.
Gonna be so real, before seeing what video this was on and the end of the message I was very concerned for a second there. You had me in the first half.
For me Angel harassing husk or pensios scene getting played for laughs is showcasing something itself Those of us exploited have uncomfortable coping mechanisms MEANT to push people away! Angel comes on to every man because he believes that the more overt he is and the more freely he throws himself at people HE CHOOSES will give him some SENSE OF AGENCY!!! as for snake boy’s scene. I think it’s supposed to represent that awkward moment or feeling when you say something accidentally and like it or not trying to hide how you are ACTUALLY FEELING can lead to intense and painful situations you DONT WANT TO BE IN! Anyone watching this show SHOULD CRINGE at snake getting dragged in and if you have ever been that person who just went along with it nodding your head and awkwardly just getting that moment over with you can FEEL for him because he essentially does in a joke a deep seeded trauma most of us victims have He buys her a drink…. But hides the reason He buys her a shot… but hides the reason He wants to go further but doesn’t know how to they are in a sex club so socially awkward as he is he gives into the peer pressure of the room and instead of trying to have a genuine “i like you” conversation he jumps right into what he thinks she wants… it’s where she took them after all… We can see in almost EVERY SHOT! Snake boy doesn’t think too highly of “s e x” and he is using it as another social interaction as apposed to ACTUALLY TELLING HER HOW HE FEELS!!!! the scene in my opinion is supposed to be jarring because it’s not at ALL what snake wants.
As someone who really enjoyed season 1, i can say that i really liked your video, very grounded and very respectful towards both parts, and yes don't worry i can understand if you didn't fully enjoy it
As someone who is pro/ace, specifically zero desire or attraction for sex or romance, I think Alastor is pretty good as far as representation goes. His aversion to being touched and overall disinterest in sex and romance I find entertaining and interesting from a character perspective. However, I feel like his character design has unintentionally led to the fandom not taking his sexuality seriously. Many people in the fandom have romantically and sexually shipped him with every character he's interacted with despite his canon sexuality and personally, which makes me feel uncomfortable, like they're erasing it. To me, it feels the same as shipping a gay man with a woman which is very dismissive of their sexuality and who they are as a character. Idk I just think if his design was less Tumblr coded, he wouldn't be shipped nearly as much as he is, but who knows with fandoms. I've seen many people excusing their ships by saying "some are/ace can still be in relationships" and I agree! However, it feels more like a convenient excuse than an acknowledgement of the aspect community itself. It has been shown that Alastor does not fit into that part of the community, being very against sex and romance, and thus feels like disregarding his sexuality to fit a ship. Ace Aro people don't get a lot of rep so it's disheartening when we finally do in a very popular media that it is thrown away in favor of shipping. I've seen it before in the Owl House when even after its revealed Lilith was Ace Aro (again with no desire or attraction for either) she was still shipped in the fandom. Overall my issue is with the fandom rather than his in-show representation.
I'm a big fan of Hazbin Hotel and it's better than the stupid Velma Show that show stinks Hazbin Hotel is way better and I like the designs of the characters and everything. Red is one of my favorite colors and Hazbin Hotel is better than most other adult shows because unlike them Hazbin Hotel actually takes things seriously and it explores the dark themes and everything from the classic kids shows and movies and it's got better writing better pacing characters especially and Charlie is a breath of relief and fresh air from the usual main protagonists in other adult shows who are selfish ungrateful jerks 24 7 and I like Charlie x Vaggie too and I'm excited to see Hazbin Hotel Season 2 and the rest.
To the chatter who said I'm an old man simp I'm not I just really like his character in a non romantic way, also he's a cat what's not to adore about that part of his design.
Dont worry fam, they were definitely directing that towards me and my known love for older men (Stanley Pines, Frank Fontaine, etc) You just caught an unfortunately (albeit good natured) stray XD
10:52 At the risk of sounding rude, I don't understand the problem of characters being very "white", I don't see people with red eyes, green sclerae, four arms, fur, wings, snake tail, horns, sharp teeth, etc etc, in real life, that is, I understand that sinners transform when they arrive in hell and I only see monsters, not humans. That to me is more of a problem for people from first world countries where they seem to be quite obsessed with "representation." I am Venezuelan and I don't need the characters to look like me physically to relate to them.
Adam is one of my favorite characters, to me, he is well written villain. Come he is freaking funny and entertaining, and has funny lines that made me laugh. Vivienne and some animators and writers wrote on Twitter that he is one of their favorite characters, and how fun they have writing him. A charismatic funny cocky toxic spoiled misogynistic sexist based douchebag that you have fun love to hate. And there is a reason why he is that evil. He wasn't evil when he was alive, he was just a selfish person who fought his wife was made for him in his eyes, because she appeared a little bit later after his birth, and he wanted her to do what he wants, he demanded control, let's not forget that he is first human, he didn't have parents who could teach him a discipline and what's right and wrong, he grew up in the environment that morals for humanity didn't existed yet, when he get to heaven, Sera didn't make him realize that he made mistake, and the fact that Lilith didn't submit his will, and later with lucifer exposed earth to the root of all evil, and perhaps possessed his new wife Eve, in Adam's eyes that makes his actions, his idea "that woman are not equals as him but a man's additions who should submit him" look good, when Lilith and Lucifer are villains in his point of view. Also in hazbin hotel he didn't ate the fruit of knowledge, because of this, he didn't gain knowledge, did not allow him to realize his mistakes, and cannot find the difference between good and evil, so he has black and white views. And then Sera gives him a royal fancy live, that he will get anithing he wants on the silver platter, and not facing a consequences of his mistakes, and he lived like Kuzco, without love and discipline reveling in power in ten thousands years, so what's why he is so spoiled frat bro and has God complexes, because of the fact he get from Sera and Elders that he is the first human, a special who gave birth to humanity, reason why Adam is so evil is due to him being spoiled rotten because of how he had the whole world in his favor on how he wanted to see it fit, making him labeled to be too special for his benefit, ironically this makes him more in line with how the original biblical Devil is than Lucifer, having his perfection corrupt him. the sir pentious being dragged away joke should've been followed up by pentious admitting to those demons he's failing at flirting with cherry bomb, so the demons don't go through with it and just watch him cry like "that's rough bud"
In my opinion, the snake guy getting dragged could have been stopped by Angel Dust, which would kinda teach him to stand up to his abuser- to which that interaction with Valentino would feel better.
And don’t forget that the name of the is “consent”, so a couple of words can easily save snake’s ass from invasion
Or do it like the scene with prisoners from ATLA where we are afraid of them and what they will do to Pentious only to cut it back to them giving him advice like "you gotta step it up dude, if you want her"

It’d be cooler if they had some more variation in body types, is all.

the fact that basically all the character you mentioned have the exact same hands but with different colored claws also pains me. and the point about the background characters looking more diverse is just funny tbh; the fact basically all the main cast wears the exact same suit style is quite repetitive.

But if you default to "white passing" representation, then no. Viv could do better.

@@zambanella3688I think the characters use flat iron just like velvet

This here! Genuinely seeing almost all of them be ashy just bothers me a lot, like you said a dark purple could have gone well for like Sera!
(I hope I'm not coming off as rude, I find this conversation and topic rlly interesting!!)
The fact that they aren't human IS another reason why all the darker skinned characters shouldn't be grey, same with the characters of other races.
There's many ways they could have gone but went with gray skin tones which is done too much that people don't wanna see that used on poc as much
i had no clue velvette or emily were black coded omg
I agree alot with the Alastor critique, i wish they still kept his way if speaking aswell. Like how he used words from the era he died in in the pilot, or used swears and edgy connotations outwardly more sparingly. He could still use them when hes panicked or otherwise but i feel in the pilot hes one of the only characters (besides katie killjoy) whos characterization i think worked a bit better in some aspects. You could feel that he still posed a threat but didnt have to say it outright
Katie Killjoy is mostly just there in the actual show and that’s it. Tom Trench is practically worthless too.
But they are more influenced by their parents and adults around them to think that even tho it’s wrong it’s kinda right to them
I think it’s more about being unbaptised. Traditionally sloth referred to people who didn’t fulfil their obligations to God, which in a way made unbaptised babies slothful by default. This is all old medieval church propaganda nonsense, but I think that’s sort of where the idea comes from.

Its really hard for me to tell the silhouettes of the characters apart from each other in my opinion.
That said, Alastor is pretty okay all things considered.
Are genuinely nice 👍
Also you weren’t annoying about it.

Ace isn't lack of romantic interests thats aromatic
Im ace and lesbian, i want a relationship but am very clear that I mainly just want a romantic relationship and not a sexual one and those are my boundaries
A lot of the drama comes from is that people don't know if AL is actually aromatic, the ace part got confirm but people are not sure the aromatic part is confirmed and the people who do believe its canon cause two voices actors said it, but vivzi herself hasn't confirmed it yet are just upset people are shipping Al with others since theres already little rep for Ace, Aro and AroAce
Which i do understand too since whenever I see ace represented their still depreciated as hyper sexual or willing to break their boundaries for their partner cause its still taboo or weird to want a relationship with no sex
Its why tod from bojack is my favorite cause he is clear about his boundaries and wants to be respected in the fact that he wants a relationship but not a sexual one and he finds a partner who is like him so they're purely both comfortable. Purely romantic relationship can be a thing but people treat it as impossible which is just sad
Mimzy and alastor were supposed to be a couple a few years ago I wish it was cannon today
If we just called every white passing character a poc then what would be the use of visibly poc characters? the narrative is limited, is the point. there are billions of visible poc IRL alongside white-passing direct descendants of poc, but when the /only/ representation we get of certain races is minimally thought through... ugh.

I knew that I didn't want to support or give my money towards her projects. Why should I support someone who doesn't even respect her own fans ?
However, as an artist myself I do have alot to say about the show.
I find viz to be insanely lazy with:
1 the bodies are always the same, if not for niffy, carmilla and mimzy they all blend together.
2 The voice acting isn't good especially for Valentino, Katy killjoy, Adam and rosie.
3 The angels are underwhelming and just look like pastel demons (wich would be fine if not for the fact viz has sinner designs in heaven.
That’s doesn’t make sense since vox is suppose to be the futuristic one
@@yumalove7223 I mean, it's clearly shown he has some past with alastor, so it's not unreasonable that they would connect the two

Velvette literally rips models apart if they don't meet her standards and she's letting Vox walk around looking like that? The Vox + Alastor parallels would still come through if you just replaced the bowtie with a straight tie imo. I have this to say about first season. It is long
They should have cut MOST of the plot lines and put in maybe only Angel Redemption where you can focus on it.
I agree that the most awesome use of him would be to make him a big bad, having him do a last minute double cross in favour of Charlie's project would be ok by me
I was hoping that Husk was another ace, but since he has been confirmed to be destined to be with Angel Dust, I'm going with it.
As it is, I find the show very rewatchable bevause I see different things every time.
the creator of hazbin thought hazbin was going to cancelled I watched a interview
I mean you really can’t say the show doesn’t glamorous it when she had sold weird pőrn keychains of them together 💀
She didn’t sell it but she bragged about how she (and the storyboarder who fetishizes the abuse) planned to buy it
@@Birdyboys no I mean she has 100% sold those Keychains. I remember seeing her say they sold out 😭
The kids part, here's a possibility.
In fact alot of moments made my eyes tired with so much unnecessary movement
The Musical numbers were good, but could've being better. The majority of them weren't as catchy or memorable to me
The story is a mess. I could only end the season with reviews and short moments, and only later I sucked up to watch the rest
It can be serviceable, but the writing is so bad it makes it impossible to anyone that isn't a vivizie fan to fully enjoy it without being angry with some choices or notice the issues.
Charlie isn’t running the program yet
I love watching your reactions and critiques. They’re amazing and informational 😁🔥
Mm yess delicious video essay to add to my collection 😂❤

To be honest, most of those shows are based on books or pre-established media, they already had a story and the development of the show itself was more like *polishing* that story.
Her shows just mainly take these situations as jokes and it's disgusting.
i think the samey character designs is more about the over-use of the colour red rather than the actual designs
Loved this video, love you, LOVE HUSK, yes I subscribed SO fast ! Lol
All of that being said however,,
Alastor being the only AroAce rep in the show *can* be seen as a sort of hurtful stereotype of Aro/Ace people.
True fact about Alastor: He is actually a demisexual according to Vivziepop in the Hunnicast q and a. As an ex aroace, I am proof of that. LOL.
Alastor isnt attracted to people and he is not aro
Alastor is an ace but can be demisexual according to Viv in the Hunnicast q and a....
Not all kids are innocent. Sorry
I enjoy Hazbin, but I don't mind hearing the criticisms. I agree with everything you said here. Nothing wrong with seeing how to make the show better
i think OFTEN about how i would "fix" hazbin. its just still such a "pilot" and proof of concept.
once they learned it was 8 episodes, they shouldve cut like 80% of the material. seriously the season shouldve ended with charlie meeting up with adam for that meeting. im not joking.
i would TOTALLY restructure. we should follow vaggie. she has JUST been cast out of heaven and is walking aimlessly. she hears about this "happy hotel" that redeems sinners to send them to heaven and she hightails it over there. title screen.
Eh, definitely worth the 7 bob
(POI, Wordwall below. In my defence, the longer a video is, the more I have to say on it. Totally not my fault...... Also I can't compound worth doodly)
Charlie's songs about her project definitely are really annoying.
It is interesting to note, however, how well she embodies Pride in this regard
Speaking of, Alastor, Vox, and Lucifer probably look that way because of Lucifer. Each Deadly Sin has characteristics (Lava lamp stomach - Gluttony/Queen Bee, Moth characteristics - Lust/Asmodeus), and Pride/Lucifer seem to be formal attire; i.e., Pride in your appearance
I know the show is about Charlie, but by Oblivion, I really hope Alastor take centre stage in further seasons. Unless there's going to be a spin-off, he will try to take the throne of Lucifer and will either be killed trying or be imprisoned, vowing to get revenge
(Side note, being Ace myself, the only annoying thing about Alastor being Ace is the fandoms attempt to erase it. Also, can't you be Ace and Pan at the same time?)
On the SA thing, I think it being uncomfortable is the idea. I think the idea is for people to try to get an understanding at least, of what's like and why it's not as simple as "Just leave them". That bring said, I hate Valentino so damned much, I cannot wait for Angel to shoot him or Alastor to tear him apart to fuck with Vox (Alternatively a favour deal with Angel)
49:55 I truly hate how this bull has become the norm. I miss the old days of 20 something episodes that were 40 minutes long. I sincerely hope whoever enforced this trend has a permanent itch that constantly moves, or is always stubbing their toe
(Also, you could always make a 6th creature based on the technoshark. Or make a technoshowl. That'd be cute)
"Not to mention how fucking selfish and arrogant her complete disregard for the Saints in favour of the Sinners is."
Could...you explain that please??
(This is gunna be another word wall, sorry)
The reason why I believe she is selfish is her complete and utter disregard for the Saint's mental health
Look at it this way. Charlie believes that every single Sinner can be redeemed. Every Sinner. That includes Valentino
Now, just using Angel Dust as an example, can you imagine how Angel would feel if he ascending to Heaven, for Valentino to show up a couple of months later?
Another example would be other victims of assault. If every Sinner can be redeemed, that includes rapist, groomers, zoophiles, paedophiles, Nazis, and other similar degenerates. So imagine if there was a Sinner who was rped to death and was sent to Heaven. Can you imagine how sickening, how horrified they would be to see the very monster who pit them there, rocking up at Heaven like thier atrocities are somehow null and void for being a good person for a couple of months
Lastly, Sir Pentius is a good example. Yes, he redeemed himself, but we've no idea what he did before he died. Multiple scenes imply he was a general of some sort, and if he was a general, he could have ordered the deaths of thousands in one capacity or another
Charlie's belief that every single Sinner can be redeemed includes monsters like Valentino and the Zodiac Killer.
I only watch Cartoon Universe, and that's only because I enjoy Deepcuts wit
I imagine Vivziepop will address these concerns in the show, probably using a Saint or Emily, explaining to Charlie these concerns. Personal growth and all that
@@AshValentine.
Cellspex is another cartoon reviewer. She has her own witty moments!
Don't wanna spoil her view on the premise, but when she stated it, I was alll......
"oh, that kinda makes sense"
" Why are minorities in hell, it must be bigotry"
The problem with this reasoning ( apart from " muh morality") is it assumes the world of the show is same as the author's stance which is wrong in itself but even if you want to pull it you'd have to also assume that the author thinks the shows world is right or correct which is EXPLICITLY not the case in Hazbin, the world or mechanics are explicitly shown to be incorrect.
27:33 I wish I had that for a ringtone, I nearly choked on my tea XD
i’m surprised that Angel having 2 arms at one point in loser baby wasn’t mentioned in the animation mistake part
There is no way the show wasn't written without Deviantart fetish seekers in mind. Prove me wrong
Only 54 minutes? This is a short one by your standards.
Sanity won I guess

Hell yeah we got another Husk lover!!
Awesome video
:D
Sir pentious did say aggressively average body in episode 2
I think the show needs more shading and I didn’t have a problem with the red color in the pilot
@@artistanthony1007 trust me I know who its meant for but that doesnt mean thats necessarily whos watching it, lets be honest with ourselves, lying about your age on the internet is universal, everyones done it

wait, niftys japanese?
you'd think she'd curse in her native tongue or something like how they do for Vaggy to show some hints there
Vaggie was originally a latino human that died in 2014 and enter Hell, she even in Pilot gets told a sexist joke with word Taco by Angel and takes Al's comment "lonesome sinners" very personally showing it made her feel miserable and her Moth shown with Wing Hair is of Moth same as Valentino with think his Robe Wings, it's obvious that Viv decided to make changes that don't make sense and so like Vaggie, Niffty doesn't speak Japanese at all and not even that.
Interesting takes!
I really really like angel and his story. I had repetitive and severe assault and personality wise I reacted very similarly to angel. Genuinely I felt seen watching this show.
I love Alastor! And I think HE’S best character, in my opinion
I love the intro
It was so good. I'm excited for the next season!
WAIT NIFTY IS!
I need Al, that was a big thing
I know angle because his past as a human
But Nifty isn’t white?
YES. YESSSSSSS. A FELLOW HUSK STAN! I HAVE FINALLY FOUND ANOTHER WHO LOVES MY DISGUSTING ALCOHOLIC CAT LOSER THANK GOD
Obviously, I have not nor will ever eat human flesh in life, but I would totally go to the cannibal town and live there.
Gonna be so real, before seeing what video this was on and the end of the message I was very concerned for a second there. You had me in the first half.
For me Angel harassing husk or pensios scene getting played for laughs is showcasing something itself
Those of us exploited have uncomfortable coping mechanisms MEANT to push people away!
Anyone watching this show SHOULD CRINGE at snake getting dragged in and if you have ever been that person who just went along with it nodding your head and awkwardly just getting that moment over with you can FEEL for him because he essentially does in a joke a deep seeded trauma most of us victims have
He buys her a drink…. But hides the reason
He buys her a shot… but hides the reason
He wants to go further but doesn’t know how to they are in a sex club so socially awkward as he is he gives into the peer pressure of the room and instead of trying to have a genuine “i like you” conversation he jumps right into what he thinks she wants… it’s where she took them after all…
We can see in almost EVERY SHOT! Snake boy doesn’t think too highly of “s e x” and he is using it as another social interaction as apposed to ACTUALLY TELLING HER HOW HE FEELS!!!! the scene in my opinion is supposed to be jarring because it’s not at ALL what snake wants.
WHY IS THIS SO GOOOD
Theres also a lot of inconsistencies in the show that caused a lot of plot holes. I love your intro and ending. Nicely done. Immersive! ❤❤❤
oh wow, a character isn't dark enough, what a valid criticism
As someone who really enjoyed season 1, i can say that i really liked your video, very grounded and very respectful towards both parts, and yes don't worry i can understand if you didn't fully enjoy it
Nice review .
@@MaliMalware all g you enjoy your weird taste in fictional men.
@@MaliMalware discovered your channel today through Grimmi, got yourself a new sub too.
That to me is more of a problem for people from first world countries where they seem to be quite obsessed with "representation."
I am Venezuelan and I don't need the characters to look like me physically to relate to them.
Hey,I bet you like Cherri, yknow, since she's also a sassy pink haired aussie
sheeesh, that voice acting
In first episode what he sayed, he was wrong, but he didn't lied because he genuinely believes in that.
And im not religious
Buffy the vampire slayer kick ass i love buffy i even have a buffy funko pop in my collection 😍
There's shows that do better with very little including Edgerunners, Over The Garden Wall and especially DHMIS and the writers including Viv need to understand and actually care to that vulgarity does not equate to mature/adult especially just unnecessary, lazy and childish use of it.
10 writers and they came up with this garbage? I don't have faith with them in season 2 and beyond
