Chris, SW Iowa corn/soybean farmer here. Previous owner of a 7720. For 14 years. Forget the chopper slow down kit. But do pull the sickle section rail out of the chopper for corn. It's only for beans. I'm pullin' for ya man. You are getting started, I am looking at 1 more year before I sell out. Love all your vids.
I will never question your reasoning and decisions for your farm or business in itself, you are a hard working one man show with a great network of fellow farmers to lend a hand. Kudos on taking chances, and giving it all you have to give. Love your videos and i’ve been glad to support your channel with grabbing some shirts hats etc. Love the channel!
hey Duffy, most corn growers will just go to the field, pull a few ears and test it in handheld tester, instead of dragging equipment, field to field, only to see moisture to high...just a thought..
Congrats Chris. Your first year of farming is going great! Minor hiccups here and there, but all in all doing good. Been great being able to see someone work on old gear.
Just a tip take some of your used oil from oil changes to lubricate the gathering chains on the corn head, which helps decrease where on sprockets and chains. On our corn head we do it about every 20 acres or when the chains get loud. Hope this helps
Between custom planting, custom spraying, custom harvesting and custom trucking as well as having the agronomist make all the decisions a guy doesn't ever need to set foot in a field and still call himself a farmer. I appreciate the way you are running your operation, I'm sure if you just wanted to be a landlord you could have gone that route.
As for the combine an once of preventive maintenance now in the yard is worth a pound of pain and headache later in the field keep up the great content
Several folks tried to tell you that you would be combining 30%+ corn the first of December back when you planted in late May and you poped off on them like they didn't know what they were talking about lol. AND HERE YOU ARE lol.
Don’t pull it back into idle with the separator running. All the momentum everything is carrying goes to the path of least resistants. Which is the belts. Throw the separator off then idle engine.
So Happy to see you harvesting your own crop with your own equipment after your past setup & issue. Old equipment new equipment its all the same all will nickle you at times. I like your work ethic & drive to keep on progressing & getting the work done no matter what you are faced with . I am glad to see your collared sidekick & supervisor has not had to crack down on you lol. Keep up the good work & wish you the best Chris !!!
LOL, Yenko is so cool. I hope you get her all straightened out Chris. I was excited to see this old combine get back into service. Hope it all works out buddy.
Something to think about in the future, an IR temperature gun to spot check bearings and such while they run. They're not that expensive and are good for quick reference on chucking for heat. Be good to keep on the combine during harvest. Lots of moving parts
Glad everything on the combine is running good just keep pushing chris things are looking good corn will get better hopefully one day will see you plant beans and wheat
Congrats Chris, your own corn on your own farm, your first harvest, boy u doing good Chris well done and you got good mates there.Congrats.🌽🌽🌽🌽👏🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🇮🇪☘️🐕🐕🐕
Hey Chris , next havest you should look into catering chains on the head , they help out a ton with head loss ,chains with sweeps 1 bushels per acre , without gathering chains 2.5 bushels per acre loss , big difference. Great start tonight, happy for you !
From the video it appears that your head is running slow. Not sure if you have your reverser sped up or not. You can also flip the sprockets on the end of the head in the oil bath for more speed. More speed helps the head clear the trash and the stalk rolls chew it up better. To set Concave clearance take an average size cob and that is your clearance. Don’t remember if you leveled and set the concave zero stop with the new rasp bars. The wide body combines can be hard to get an even concave clearance. When hauling to town if they don’t dock for fm it’s all good. I’d rather send some fm to town than leave some corn in the field
Awesome to watch the combine working good for ya Chris. I watch every video you put out and I'm waiting on my carhart hoodie to come in so I can rock it all winter 🤙🤙🤙
You doing great an you get things figured out. The best is you having your own farm. Great you have friends to help you. Proud of you. Keep moving firward you got this. 👍🐾🐾
YANKO❤man pops is going to town for the first year my god you have it going on even with the set backs you grin and move forward!!!! I hope all your HATERS especially your DAD do you think he’s proud lol keep the faith your friends got your back and god will do the rest!! Have a blessed day
Soon enough you will have it dialed in and next season you will be rocking 😎 and rolling 😎 Better for you to have this machine than a new one because you can service everything yourself!😊
Duffy let me say you got lucky with that chopper. Last season that bearing went out on my 4400s chopper and it broke a couple knives off and threw one through my tin and one bent my straw walkers up a little after getting flung back in the machine. That wasn’t a fun fix, finished the rest of harvest without a chopper.
A lot of guys your size hire there crops done. You'll see in two or three years if it's worth it. Especially if it takes time away from you working. Work for your buddy and that pays part of it and you have no headaches . That's why a lot of small guys do it .
Duffy, have you ever used propane as your torch gas? Lot cheater, just have to change the torch tip and your connection on the hose to fit a propane. Tank. Gives pretty good heat for a lot less money.
I have two of them and both of them I can cut up to 2-in Steel without thinking twice just turn the oxygen up higher it might actually come from a place called TW truck Equippers which used to modify bodies and put them on trucks for snow plows and etcetera dump trucks
Duffy get you a temperature laser gun if you aint got one. And after running a few hrs go and check every bearing. You may find some hot ones. Them 20 series got a bunch of em .
I would recommend a temp gun for the combine and . I always check the bottom sieve a couple of times a day . Happy for ya . Glad you had good rains and are getting some bushels out . Keeps records on the field yields to turn in for future crop insurance at the NRCS office
Who cares what others think. Old combines do just fine when maintained properly and are dialed in just right. All equipment breaks, but new equipment costs more to buy and fix. It may have helped to have someone familiar with that type of combine to help you get it dialed in faster though. Knowledge is a beautiful thing, and you're getting some while working it out.
I would guess the vertical auger on the unload is worn. That is common on the 20 series. You will need help to put in a new one. I think someone made an insert for that tube to make the old auger better. You are doing great.
My buddy and I were looking at that H&S trailer a couple weeks ago. That's got Duffy Ag written all over it lol. I can make it from the Hampton Inn in Cazenovia to the Stewart's in Sharon Springs in just about an hour or so that must not be too bad of a ride for you, right?
Another great video. Congratulations from one of your self appointed "counsel of elders" LOL. Here are my thoughts regarding the fine tuning. You are cracking way too much grain. In my opinion, your sample is TOO clean. As I see it, you may be putting too much grain back through your retailings. I say this because the time it takes for your machine to clean out after you stop forward motion is too long. Try opening your retailings window as you are running and look at the volume. If you are loading up your retailings, you should be able to hear it. Next. try slowing down your cylinder a little at a time, but not so much that you leave more grain on the cob. If you find that you are leaving more grain on the cob, tighten the cylinder 1/2 turn at a time and see if that cleans the cob and reduces the cracks. Here is a related question. How worn is your concave? I know you put in new rasp bars. If your concave is in good shape, check the book for the way it is set. Most of all, your sample is just too clean and it has too many cracks, and that's not always related to moisture content. Don't be afraid to sell a little trash and even a little cob.
@@sweetfarmsllc8886I'd say it's worn finger on the outsides 2fingers in the middle. Why when so far in doing strippers he didn't do the concave is just daft.
Yep that light kit is priceless better than the candles as good as the way things are going is good for an old girl stuff go's wrong no matter how well you plan evern new bearing's can be junk in hours you made it good job give you 2 years with her you will get it ironed out 😢😅😊
You probably better get you a can or two of chain lube and hit those chains. They already look wore out. Them and the sprockets. But it might get you by for a while.
Where you adjust the fan speed on that sheave there is a bearing that looks loke a throw out bearing it get worn and won't allow the fan to reach full speed some shims between the bearing and sheave are necassary as well
Shouldn’t bother with the old combine? Heck I’d love to trade up to that old combine. That old combine would run circles around my 4400 lol you got a good combine Duffy!
Hey Chris I don't know if you have anybody that helps you sit, is but get out and look the best is if it's going over the walkers you're going to see corn out in the standing corn a few rows if you walk a few rolls out so that tells you to tighten the cave a little bit and speed it up a little bit little increments at a time not drastic changes. For corn in your fan it should never beyou over loading the seives.
36% moisture corn…That makes it sound like a thunderstorm under your feet, that stuff shells hard. Most guys are just wrapping up here we have had a very dry warm breezy fall.
Yeah that looks like the bearing that you forgot to put the grease in or couldn't get the grease in just remember everything that turns needs lubrication
I forgot to say you should pull your knives out on the chopper not the hammers don't get sharpened you can pull the knives out for corn and and you put them in for soybeans on the chopper. Also on our combined we were getting a lot of dirt when we were doing soybeans dust and the beans and we found the key way on the pulley for the fan we adjust it was shared so it was just kind of freewheeling I don't know if it's that way on the 20 series
Thunder bearings if you can get to him a Dremel tool works good will small cutting wheel cut both sides of them and wacky with a chisel and it usually blow dry it apart I'm not telling you what to do just been there done that did that
The equipment you're running is great compared to some I've seen running around here keep up the good work maybe next year you won't need as much fix sense you did it this year
I feel that your doing better than I'm doing. Me outside of being Great for you; my pain wondering if life is better gone in to much pain could not eat anything but ice cream today. He did that he was testing his Combine at the home field. Then he went to were he knew the corn was dryer
when...he stated he was testing corn, then using tester after gathering a sample, then he knew it was to wet...@@patriotmob3227
Man Chris I'm so happy to see your co.bine up and harvesting corn. And you got some good friends to help out
Congrats Chris. Your first year of farming is going great! Minor hiccups here and there, but all in all doing good. Been great being able to see someone work on old gear.
Its so awesome to see you getting the corn off. All ur hard work paying off. Great work duffy
Just a tip take some of your used oil from oil changes to lubricate the gathering chains on the corn head, which helps decrease where on sprockets and chains. On our corn head we do it about every 20 acres or when the chains get loud. Hope this helps
This actually decreases the life of them. The oil attracts grit which accelerates the wear.
Congratulations. All your hard work is at last making a pay day. Impressed.
Looking good. Combine is doing well. All good progress.

Yes and when you hit mid November the moisture don't change in the field much. Might kill test weight
It will dry some more in week or two hard freeze will make it happen

Yenko approves of the combine! Great shot of him outlined by cab lights , ears up
We need more people in this world that have the excellent work ethic that you possess.
The combine is looking great hopefully you get the fan problem taken care of soon
Glad combine is working as good as it is, shes old but a runner.
Great news, and thanks again for letting us follow. Excited.
those 20 series combines are a great units, had both 7720-8820's , 7720 did over 4000 hrs , very versatile durable combines !! ...for that era :)

As many bearings as those machines have I would have to have A thermal imaging camera. Congratulations on the success
Awesome start Duffy..love it 😊
I'm surprised you don't open your own business fixing milking parlors you been doing it for so long you're excellent at it😊
Probably need access to the delaval computer these days to fix them…

You have come through well!!!

Glad to see your combine working well. Congrats on first day harvest of your corn.
Good that the corn was so wet that you were able to work most of the problems out on the combine. I am enjoying watching you working your own farm.

Those stationary Knives on the bottom of that chopper Are supposed to be retracted or removed to do corn.... They are used during soybeans
I was going to bring that up now I don’t have to
They need to be out for corn also so the cobs don't beat up the straw walkers
