    I love how transparent you are, haha the part about you being sponsored. You're right, we can just do the same test ourselves! Thank you so much for the hard work. I will be buying garage therapy! I needed this test so much, instead of dish washing soap i wanted to find a soap that can strip away everything and start over.

    I used the garage therapy and had some mixed in a spray bottle to hit the panel first, then used it in a bucket in the usual wash method. Managed to strip old Fusso which is quite impressive 👍🏽

    Thank you for confirming that there's no such thing as a strip wash soap. Best thing to help degrade remains a full APC spray down followed by good soaking of Dawn dish soap. Again depends on what protection is there, how long it's been there, but in the end nothing replaces a onestep polish to ensure old wax is gone.

    Hi Jon, Great video as usual, but as others have mentioned the use of APCs I was wondering if simply adding 20ml of Surfex to a bucket wash with a pure shampoo would produce a similar result to using the GT ? I'm reluctant to buy yet another shampoo that I would only use twice a year if simply adding an APC to the bucket wash ( or snow foam lance) would do.

    When i’ve finished polishing a panel i’ll put dish soap and warm water in a foaming pump sprayer, apply them tinse off. Really effective degreasing and just removes any oils with ease to leave a totally bare surface. I get the best out of LSP’s by doing that no doubt.

    I have a bottle of pro kleen lemon degreser that I bought to remove oil from the drive when I bought this house, I used that neat left if to settle n break down then pressure washed it away ( though I wouldn't use it neat on my car but my car is not a few years of oil soaked into concrete) it done a great job until that summer which was a hot one and the stain come back, so repeated the lemon degreser on the concrete concrete drive and its been gone ( though im told it will return less n less) I mixed this at 10ml per liter yesterday to use as a APC that cleaned my wives door Jams a treat, going to see how it works on the engine bay today, thanks for all yr uploads they have helped me loads, stay safe 👍

After doing a full 5 stage decon with BH tried and tested at correct PIR applied Easy Coat and rinsed, pressure washed and finished with Di cartridge. Left marks all over the car. Don’t be tempted. I do like using a decent strip wash to get rid of old waxes. I do use Gt decon wash these days, maybe about twice a year for 2 cars so for me, its worth keeping a bottle around, just to knock down that protection. if there is still something on there after chem decon, I'll pull out the Meguiars wash plus+ on the daily driver, rather than clay it, and thats a decent surface for re-applying protection.

  • @peterjurenovskis5933
    @peterjurenovskis5933 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    All good information. Some of the products stated that they remove ‘old’ sealants and waxes. Your test is with ‘new’. I guess your testing is to show the effectiveness on a worst case scenario (tough newly applied wax/sealant). There aren’t too many times in real life that you would want to remove a new product after 24 hrs lol. Keep up the good work! Luv the channel.

    You should have tried Bilt Hamber auto wash at 20ml instead of the recommended 5ml. That would make it £0.60 for a decon wash.
    It melts 3 month old tree sap at this concentration, maybe it would do the same to waxes?

    John would be good do a price comparison of your products in US and UK since viewers in both areas. Garage Therapy products or much more expensive in US due shipping and import fees. The GT product does work the best easily. Could you just take PH neutral shampoo and ad a bunch of alkaline APC make it strip? John a interesting review as always.

    I use my autostart power c now known as power HD spray on and can leave for 10 mins easy as it's a citrus oil based degrease product but very strong only thing is you have to foam the car down with apc to strip the citrus oil after but it definitely removes protection as it seems to have an alcohol from the citrus aswell.

    I just took it as read that polishing takes the wax off. Cars had a good few coats on but was last done in October to protect over winter. It still beads. Only thing I know that strip wax almost immediately is tar remover as I only ever do that when I’m going to wash the Car again and polish on the same day. We have fairy liquid in the kitchen but haven’t washed a car with it in probably thirty years before I could drive and used to just wash my dads Car. Thought fairy liquid drys the paint although I get it that once a year shouldn’t do much if anything.

    Hi John
    Learning so much thank you
    I have, as mentioned before to you, been tackling paint correction on my pride and joy.
    I have taken every precaution, strip wash bilt hamber, decontamination karrassol, BH clay white and then tackled a small area, off side wing, with a rotary, micro fibre cutting disc, Scholl 03, with caution and steady patient passes, the micro scratches have not been touched!! I mean zero effect! After so many passes it went dark! On the 2nd day i lost a confidence and purchased a thickness gauge and checked it over plenty to go on, I thought Scholl 0 and researched further
    I found that it might be the LSP
    Hence coming across your podcast about strip washes
    I don’t know, i kinda could do with a confidence boost

    • @ForensicDetailing
      @ForensicDetailing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      dont use microfiber on rotary mate. imagine a crop circle the microfiber strands get pulled one way in a consistent direction and go flat on the pad. the surface of the micrfiber strand then clogs up in the one spot that interfaces with the clearcoat. when you use microfiber on DA's it ruffles the strand back up as it goes in little tiny orbits a bit more like buff by hand.

  • @roscopervis
    @roscopervis 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    My thought process - are you going to be decontaminating before polishing? If yes, then a tar remover will degrade waxes and sealants more than most strip washes and the decon will certainly do plenty of damage and enough before polishing to not necessarily need one.
    If no, then ooof!
    Otherwise, using a strong wash to unclog coatings is a good idea and that Garage Therapy product and something like Labocosmetica Purifica are great for that purpose.

I just rubbed it around the panel 2-3 times and its all gone. So maybe it needs a bit more mechanical removal/agitation and maybe it is different to this new product.

    Clear, accurate, little IF any bias. Hard to split some of the popular commercial stuff. SO is there a Great Purpose Built Strip wash out there??? Guessing only for the natural stuff ...... Carnauba. Most enthusiasts prob. don't mind - apply, apply, apply, that stuff.

    Great video, I like the analytics, how you break down the numbers. The only way it could of been more authoritative is if you wore a red Flex hat. 💪🏻Don't have you pegged as a CK guy. 😂..

    In the bodyshop trade, although I have been retired for 17 years now, all we used to remove waxes, old and new, was a spirit wipe. This was obviously to stop any possible silicons when painting. We applied this with a wipe, obviously turning it after each wipe. It wouldn’t surprise me however if new better water based products have been released now to cut down on solvent usage.

    Well Dave that was surprising after watching the little video yes I think there is a need for a strip wash right at the end of the waxes life when you gonna top it up I think it'll be the first thing I will use then clay and the rest of the long boring processes before wax on wax off

    Hey there! Might you have any insight into the currently available Adam’s strip wash? I was looking for a similar comparison with what appears to be a new formulation.

    Pause the video at the 21:52 minute mark and he really shows you how he feels about the opinions of the novice audience. Just kidding! Great video, as always BTW, and I hope that you really like making these type of informative videos in hopes of you continuing to make them, because they really educate and don't feel like an infomercial like 98% of the other youtube videos. Plus they'll be on here for years to come and can be viewed in the future to see what companies have always tried to sell the newest hybrid ceramic snake oil with 20 yr protection guarantee with a prep kit sold separately ( chemical guys/ adams )

    Dawn dishsoap for the win. If it cleans the grease off the ducks, then it do fine on a car. I use it all the time to prep a car for any polishing or removing any old waxes.

    John the Americans use the word dish soap, we say washing up liquid , me being British like you , a few years ago I never had a clue what dish soap meant , I presumed it was a bar of soap bcuz we store our bars of soap in a dish after use in the bathroom, it’s a soap dish we store it in so I presumed the bar of soap was dish soap

    Great Video Jon - love that sweat shirt too. It drives me crazy that GT can't be bought in the USA. I have looked into ordering directly from them but just too much $$. Some detailing supply company needs to jump on this opportunity with GT. I will admit that Clean Slate apparently isn't the joke I have always thought it was. I have used Adam's but you have to use it several times in a row for it to do much. I will say that Griots Orange Surface Prep is currently my favorite and will be my go to for stripping until GT can get here.

    Hi there, not sure if you give advice but I have just waxed my new car with the Turtle Wax Graphine Paste and the car is all smeary with a greasy looking finish - kind of like a 12 inch lp if you know what I mean!. Anyhow do you have any idea why the wax looks so bad? Thinking of buying a stripping agent like one of these and starting again. Do you think that will work?

    After a couple of years detailing, I have still the question, how we strip waxes? I`m not convinced that (strong) shampoo + paint prep is enough. But on the other hand, beading goes away soon and signs of degradation come very quickly.
    Is it polishing necessary like Brian says?
