Truely love this, sharing with the detailing community is something we should all do! :) I have something as a APC actually... All you need is natural vinegar, baking soda, glycerine, hemp oil or soy oil and water , use some etheric oils for the scent. You can easily find your own solution while experimenting with these ingrediënts and come out with a pretty good and selfmade APC ;-) Then again, I mostly used to use these for example on truckbeds etc or the back of dirty vans. Don't use this on the interior, mainly because of the oils in it. But it's always fun to experiment with such things ofcourse :) works great for housecleaning aswell fe. Haven't found a decent recipe for the interiors yet.

Hi Pam. I wonder if it would be ok if after a pre wash with lift, wash with reset from car pro, iron decon and rinse I use the IPA before aply Bead Maker, or may be the reset would be enought. Thanks !
The more time you spend prepping the paint the better, before applying any paint protection. But in the case of Bead Maker, it's just a regular sealant so it doesn't last that long (3-4 weeks normally). We mainly use it for amplifying gloss and slickness on longer lasting existing protection. So IPA wipe wouldn't be as crucial before applying Bead Maker. I typically wash my ceramic coated car with a good snow foam (CarPro Lift is excellent), then hand wash with CarPro Reset, and use Bead Maker either as a drying aid when towel drying, or, if I'm blow drying the car, use Bead Maker at the end like a quick detailer. No IPA needed in this scenario, as Bead Maker is more for maintenance and a nice glossy and slick topper.

So if im going to do a paint correction on my car and I glazed and polished it 1+ year ago.. am I using an IPA before I do anything? am I using my CarPro Eraser on the paint to take off that older glaze and polish or is the 2 step im going to be doing going to take away the older glaze and polish?
A glaze typically has fillers in it to temporarily mask swirls and scratches. It’s not true paint correction with a pure polish or compound. The way to strip a glaze is by using a polish (with no protection in it), and polishing pad, and once done use a panel prep spray like Eraser to remove polishing oils and residue. Then you have a virgin clear coat and you can apply a paint protection in it: wax, sealant or ceramic coating.
This is great, thanks. The DIY detail guy said no IPA, I'm not sure if he was saying that because of user error regarding dilution or if it's a more substantial difference of opinion.
I use Rustoleum wax and tar according to Scott from Dallas Paint Correction but he doesn’t tell you the dilution ratio is that full strength or do I dilute it. Thank you.
@@PanTheOrganizer I just figured with your engineering and background your more of an expert in this area, that’s why I follow you now instead. That really wasn’t a very nice answer, why do you think I’m on here now. Forget it I’ll find someone else, thanks for nothing…
You can (and probably should) wear any PPE equipment that you can, especially gloves when detailing. But on camera, as I'm filming, using a mask wouldn't be great for recording my voice, and also wouldn't be appealing to watch.
Pan I’m making my own IPA panel wipe for pre coating with a ceramic. I’m wondering if you ever add a APC like express interior cleaner or maybe Green Star to help remove more grease/ oily residue? Really enjoy your videos. Thanks brother Fred
Some do, but that's up to you to test and see. I prefer using dedicated panel prep sprays (like CarPro Eraser or Gyeon Prep). I use the specific brand's prep spray. If I apply a CarPro coating, I use CarPro Eraser. If I apply a Gyeon coating, I use Gyeon Prep. etc. Also, some people like to wash the car again after polishing, as sometimes an IPA alone won't fully remove polishing oils, depending on which compounds and polishes you used. I will have a video on this topic coming Saturday.
Hi Pan 😊thank you so much for this video it really helped me to understand this better.. I wanted to know with the ratio you diluted the 99% Ipa.... What percentage will the 32 ounce bottle dilution be ,with the 4 ounce IPA to 28 ounce distilled water? Thank you ❤
Yes absolutely. It doesn't last super long, but is cost effective. Here's a video on glass sealant: th-cam.com/video/IEIlHZ2D4ig/w-d-xo.htmlsi=kLDrm81segBGU4iU
Not necessary. You would spray an IPA after the compound if you wanted to see the true level of correction (as some compounding polishes sometimes have filling agents in them) but not necessary. It’s important to use a paint prep spray or IPA after the final polish, to remove polishing oils and allow for a better bond between the protection and the clear coat if you’re applying a wax, sealant or ceramic coating.
Hi there! After first stage of polishing with compound I need wipe off everything. Question: Should I clean with this solution before final polishing or is it enough just wipe with cloth? Tom (after all of course, I mean between stages)
After the compound, you can simply buff off. You can optionally use the IPA at this stage if you want to see how much paint correction you actually did. But if not, you can go directly to the polish stage, and use the IPA at the end of the final polish.
The better the water quality, the better the product will perform. So DI water, or reverse osmosis water, or demineralized or distilled water, one of those four. It doesn't matter which one. They all are 100% better than tap water for diluting chemicals.
@@PanTheOrganizer awesome! Thanks Pan! I really appreciate your quick responses 😎👍 The coating I plan to use due to pricing is Griots garage 3-1 ceramic wax spray after polishing using the DIY detailing gold standard polish.
Were you able to use the M122 much? What do you think? I like that it's not IPA and won't swell the paint when you use it on heated up paint caused by the paint correction...
Cool video Pan and I really appreciate the video. I remember a while back I was watching a Meguiars webinar and they were talking about M122. The comment which caught my attention was some IPA wipes can cause the metal to swell. I think you touched on this when you were talking about IPA dilution ratios. A subject I am studying is clear coat. The term paint correction seems to be universal but we are not correcting the paint on modern cars. All we are doing is making smaller scratches in the clear coat and calling it paint correction or enhancement. I would love to hear your knowledge behind the chemistry of clear coat and how the science behind soft and hart paint. Thank you for the video.
I'm not a paint expert unfortunately, that would be more a discussion for the inventer of modern clear coat, Dr David Ghodoussi which is the owner of Optimum Polymer Technologies. He knows a thing or two about car paint and clear coat hehe. Perhaps I can try to interview him on the topic one day.
Love your content, have you ever done a video about if you could only choose one shampoo, one polish... for the person who details their own vehicle but can't buy a bunch of different products for each step but could just choose 1 product for each step? Thanks again for all your content👍

@@Fiftyfive45 Thanks for pointing out my mistake.
I need the dilution for 40% IPA for 70% alcohol for panel wipe a PPF car. Can you let me know how calculate?
@@natathehard Sure, the proportion would be 20 parts of the 70% isopropyl alcohol to 21 parts distilled water to yield a 40% IPA solution by volume.
When we're talking about a 40% IPA solution we are saying that the ratio of the amount of alcohol, the solute, to the total amount of solution is 40% or .4. We can express this as a fractional equation with the letters A and W denoting the unknown amounts of alcohol in the bottle to the unknown amount of distilled water, respectively. In equation form:

We can multiply both sides by the expression in parenthesis to eliminate the fraction and simplify to get:
.7*A = .4*.7*A + .4*W, or
.7*A = .28*A +.4*W.
Subtracting .28*A from both sides gives us
.42*A = .4*W
Multiplying both sides by 50 gives us
21*A = 20*W, or
A/W = 20/21.

I have something as a APC actually...
All you need is natural vinegar, baking soda, glycerine, hemp oil or soy oil and water , use some etheric oils for the scent.
You can easily find your own solution while experimenting with these ingrediënts and come out with a pretty good and selfmade APC ;-)
Then again, I mostly used to use these for example on truckbeds etc or the back of dirty vans. Don't use this on the interior, mainly because of the oils in it.
But it's always fun to experiment with such things ofcourse :) works great for housecleaning aswell fe.
Haven't found a decent recipe for the interiors yet.

Hi, can i use deionised water instead lf distilled water for the diy panel prep? Thanks
Yes absolutely.
Do you use ipa after tw hybrid solutions polish before the tw ceramic coating?
You wouldn't use an IPA wipe after an all-in-one type polish like Turtle Wax Ceramic Polish & Wax. Polishes that contain a bit of protection, you wouldn't use an IPA on them. You go straight to applying the TW Ceramic Spray Coating 24 hours after the polish for example.
Thanks for this info because I was using straight 99 percent IPA the last two times I buffed my car

@ awesome thank you! .. big fan , - I’m a commercial truck driver and spent 10+ hours this week watching videos listening on my iPhone lol
Thank you.
You should ask him, I don’t use that.
@@PanTheOrganizer I just figured with your engineering and background your more of an expert in this area, that’s why I follow you now instead. That really wasn’t a very nice answer, why do you think I’m on here now. Forget it I’ll find someone else, thanks for nothing…
Do I still need an ipa wipedown if I don't plan to paint correct before using spray wax?
No
hi Pan, why dont you use a respirator when polishing? wouldnt the particles get inhaled by you?
You can (and probably should) wear any PPE equipment that you can, especially gloves when detailing. But on camera, as I'm filming, using a mask wouldn't be great for recording my voice, and also wouldn't be appealing to watch.
When you say not to use in tinted films/windows are also referring to tinted windows from factory too? or only aftermarket film applied to windows?
Any tinted film on the inside glass. Use at your own risk.
@@PanTheOrganizer but the tinted glasses from factory is also a film? that is the thing I didn't understood. and thanks for the quick reply!
It depends on the car manufacturer.
@@PanTheOrganizer so the only way is to test it on some part that is more hidden. By the way, the car is a new bmw 3-series...
Hi Pan what do you do with new foam pads ? Do you prime them? Or just put your 3 to 4 pea size drops on.
Pan
I’m making my own IPA panel wipe for pre coating with a ceramic. I’m wondering if you ever add a APC like express interior cleaner or maybe Green Star to help remove more grease/ oily residue?
Really enjoy your videos.
Thanks brother
Fred
Some do, but that's up to you to test and see. I prefer using dedicated panel prep sprays (like CarPro Eraser or Gyeon Prep). I use the specific brand's prep spray. If I apply a CarPro coating, I use CarPro Eraser. If I apply a Gyeon coating, I use Gyeon Prep. etc.
Also, some people like to wash the car again after polishing, as sometimes an IPA alone won't fully remove polishing oils, depending on which compounds and polishes you used. I will have a video on this topic coming Saturday.
Thank you
Dude you are fast on the response
Really appreciate you.
Hi Pan 😊thank you so much for this video it really helped me to understand this better.. I wanted to know with the ratio you diluted the 99% Ipa.... What percentage will the 32 ounce bottle dilution be ,with the 4 ounce IPA to 28 ounce distilled water? Thank you ❤
I use rain X on windshield to repel water, is that fine?
Yes absolutely. It doesn't last super long, but is cost effective. Here's a video on glass sealant: th-cam.com/video/IEIlHZ2D4ig/w-d-xo.htmlsi=kLDrm81segBGU4iU
I will be making my own later. Looks like a good one . Happy days !!
:)
Should I spray ipa before I compound and then spray again when I’m about to polish then spay after that
Not necessary.
@@PanTheOrganizer Great, thanks!
Hi again. Another question- can I use deionised water? Make any different?
The better the water quality, the better the product will perform. So DI water, or reverse osmosis water, or demineralized or distilled water, one of those four. It doesn't matter which one. They all are 100% better than tap water for diluting chemicals.
Pan… Somenone told me that for an ipa to be more efective, I should add degreser or a solvent to the mix?? Whats your thought??
I spoke about that in the video. Did you watch the video?
@@PanTheOrganizer man I did when it came out and I really don’t remember 😂😂 I use dedicated IPA. Just curious about it.
Going to re-watch it then.
Super helpful video sir! After I’ve washed and used the clay decontamination towel, do I need to spray ipa to remove that residue before polishing?
No. After claying, just rinse and dry the paint. And you can start polishing.
