I know there are caps on what you can save in different retirement accounts, but at that age with that income you can both live comfortably on less than $75k easily and be hoarding money into many different kinds of assets fast. They could buy a rental property a year in cash with that income and have an even greater income. Hopefully she’s not that dumb with money and just terrible at sharing her real financial picture.

When someone makes a big ask, people should expect some uncomfortable questions. No one is getting large amounts of money from me if they can't give me details on their own finances. That's a big red flag when people make a big ask and provid very few details.

Wow. First of all I went through a divorce but couldn’t even afford rent ( live in California ) and aside from financial support my parents didn’t even give emotional support. I had to do it all on my own and still am and I am disabled. I want my chidlren to be self sufficient and I teach them that but if they ever went through what I did I would never let them suffer. We all need help at some point in our lives and this sounds like more or a prayer issue not a Dave Ramsey issue. We don’t know the daughter and we don’t know their needs. I think Dave is wonderful but this has to be a wisdom by the Lord answer. I would never support drugs or bad choices but maybe the daughter is super responsible and maybe she’s not but if the daughter buys a home she has security for her kids. That’s huge. Wow. First of all I went through a divorce but couldn’t even afford rent ( live in California ) and aside from financial support my parents didn’t even give emotional support. I had to do it all on my own and still am and I am disabled. I want my chidlren to be self sufficient and I teach them that but if they ever went through what I did I would never let them suffer. We all need help at some point in our lives and this sounds like more or a prayer issue not a Dave Ramsey issue. We don’t know the daughter and we don’t know their needs. I think Dave is wonderful but this has to be a wisdom by the Lord answer. I would never support drugs or bad choices but maybe the daughter is super responsible and maybe she’s not but if the daughter buys a home she has security for her kids. That’s huge. I can say that because we can only afford a bedroom to rent right now and there is 4 of us. My parents have a lot of money and don’t care. Thank God this mother cares. I would rather have a parent that cares then all the money in the world. Again this sounds like a prayer issue. I don’t think anyone can call in to a radio station and make this decision in 6 min.

I think as a Mother she is torn because she's also a Grandmother and she is thinking about the grandchildren more than the Daughter. For any Parent going through this situation it's ok to say no because it's always going to be something that they need, it will never stop the Adult child
Will respect you more in the long run. This Daughter is going to be ok sounds like she has a decent job and she has a Settlement coming in she just probably doesn't want to spend her money so she wants the Mother to help her. Even if the Mother is a Billionare it's not healthy you are being an enabler it's ok Mom to say no. God Bless this Family.
Some people are takers. We stopped accepting money from mom after dad passed but brother didn't. So we asked her to sign that it comes out of the inheritance.
