My one criticism is that you guys should pick different zoom lengths for comparison since using the same lengths for most shots is going to favor whichever brand has closest to that length. When most actual users would simply use the provided optical lengths for the cameras.

@@matt-lang I agree with you 100%, sometimes results are skewed towards the phone they want to win it appears. Definitely skewed without purpose. The Pixel doesn't have a 3x lens and you are reviewing zoom. 5X vs 3x is more equitable, only b/c why would a photographer default to a 3X crop when there is an actual telephoto lens available? Something else I found unfair was that so many of the shots were portrait. Why? Do people use portrait as their primary mode for mobile photography? Genuine question. I rarely use it, so I could be way off base in assuming that they don't.

The issue here is that iPhone and Pixel were released 8-9 months after the S22U. Considering the warp speed at which tech progresses today, these results are not surprising. Again once the S23U is out, it'd be great to see the same video then, comparing the S23U, S22U, IP14PRO, P7PRO

I'm sorry, but the S22's camera sensor technically out specs the iPhone. Samsung should have no problem keeping up to speed with proper software updates. A lot of what's being done with the iPhone and Pixel is taking it's hardware and using software processing magic to come up with the best possible shots. What's stopping Samsung from tweaking it's photo rendering capabilities via updates over the last 8 months?
Also, like someone else said, the Samsung is technically 5 months or so behind the iPhone schedule if you really go back to the beginning of when Samsung started releasing its smartphones vs Apple. But like I said above, the release schedule is a moot point when they've had months since the S22's release to keep refining it's photo/video processing software.

This is a pretty consistent observation I’ve come across. Now with the reviewers, when the test started they were also favouring the pics where the human subject looked the best, but mid way through the video, they kind of looked at other details around the subject and didn’t focus much on the human subject in the frame, or else the iphone would’ve won by an even bigger margin

Like how can you mess up a picture on a phone that has a higher DXO mark score so badly, whereas the majority of reviewers seem to nail and enjoy the pictures in comparison to the iphones. Not that the iphones pictures are bad, far from it. But let's be honest here, a phone with a dedicated 5x zoom just can't turn out to be last on a 15x test without tampering.

As I type this on my Pixel 7 pro, I have to say that I'm disappointed with the improvements in image quality the Pixel has made over the years. I upgraded from a pixel 2 XL and in my experience the image quality is barely any different from it.
The sharpness, the colours and contrast are all the same. It's only the noise reduction that has improved with the 7 Pro. It's clear that Google has focused on the zoom and ultrawide cameras instead of really improving the image quality and sharpness. The front portrait image processing is the same as my 2 XL with it's extreme overshapening and artifacts, HDR processing can be really unreliable with extreme noise and chromatic aberrations creeping in often in challenging lighting situations. All in all, it's barely an improvement in 5 years.

Since in many cases with some pictures iPhone was set to advantage, for example, by not using all three phones in their best focal lengths and instead using like 3X, while Pixel dont have it and have to use digital crop instead, obviously it would do poorly in that case against other two, in those cases all should be in their best focal lengths. The S22 Ultra's loss is very understandable here, cause it's way older than its competition

it's loss it's because they are apple fanboys. They literally switched photos from one to another I'm pretty sure of it. Most of times they chose the best pic (taken from s22 or pixel) and said it's from the iphone to make it win. I'd really bet on it.
Iphone makes yellow-ish photos, Pixel and Samsung never do it.

Thanks for the video. One question however, is how "raw" are these images? I know Samsung is prone to auto-HDRing everything, which is terribly undesirable for someone like myself who's more into the photography side of photography (I don't want the phone turning my images into cartoons with onboard processing). I'd rather get the cleanest image I can out of the device, I'll ruin it manually with my incompetence later. :)
I can't help but wonder if a lot of the muddy imagery and other artifacts are simply garbage I'd have disabled in the first place.

neither of these give clean images, they're all overly processed and the colors all looked cartoonish. Get an Xperia if you don't mind taking your time in manual modes. For easy auto mode, iPhones have the overall most reliable cameras for lazy people.
