Having used the Pixel 2XL, and Pixel 5 over the last 4-5 years, I'm surprised that the portrait mode photos don't seem to be as good on the Pixel 7 Pro. That being said, I don't usually use portrait mode so it's not a deal breaker for me anyhow. Probably will switch to the Pixel 7 Pro in a while.

It's pretty clear that despite inferior processing and slightly less capable camera hardware, that software allows the Pixel to create better photos than the Iphone. It's also interesting that the Iphone's advantage in video is largely a result of software.

Almost half of the photos were made in low light / nighttime conditions which is for most of us average users definately not the normal photo making environment. One other idea - which I understand is very difficult to do - is to compare whith the original colours. Although picture quality of high end phones comes closer and closer to each other, I still see significant diferences in colour schemes. Possibly , but smartphones in photography none are known for their consistency , or accuracy if we are being honest , even things like lens flares which effect most smartphone cameras are just not good and the I’ve noticed in several photo comparisons the pixel seems to suffer worse than most. The pixel is good in some shots , but piss poor in others like all smartphones , in the end these are still “ just smartphone cameras”, you get what you pay for.

This way you could have a different winner for each category. You said you only took 4 tele photos, but this wouldnt matter in categories, because the telephotos help pixel to win that category only no matter how many telephotos you take (and same with iphone and videos).

Much more expensive phone compare to the pixel, this test was based on price and which is better after all apple got rid of the mini range and brought the flagship plus back again and it lost simple and there excuse is because it doesn't come with a lidar sensor

One way to tell if it's a Pixel is the magenta-ish skies and muted greens. iPhone's color of the skies since the 11 has been aqua colored skies and bright green.
