To my ear, his greatest performance of this song was when he did it in the late 70's...complete with youthful attitude. But he still brings it today.....fab.
With a heart full of love & the utmost respect for both of these gentlemen, IMHO, the ONLY voice worthy of performing his CLASSIC "New York State Of Mind" is the voice of the LEGENDARY Mr. Billy Joel himself.🙏♥️🇺🇲✌
@@cameronprior5227 this comment was posted 4 years ago and I went back cause I got the notification and my comment was way out of line and judgemental to this clearly talented artist I think I was just noticing he was stumbling around alot and made an assumption. +Jordan Marshall It's actually Mark Rivera who has been in Billy's band since the early 1980s, as well as having played with Hall & Oates and is part of Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band.
Always good to see Rufus, bot on a quintessentially Billy Joel song? What was BJ thinking? I'm Rufus' biggest fan, but this was the icing on the icing. NYSoM has always been the very soul of a BJ song, so why would he want anyone else singing along? It just doesn't work for me. It;s a song of solitude, how could it become a duet?
Rufus was great with Sting but you can see his is fucked up again for this song. What a sad thing to see. Drugs are what kept this great voice from being the hit he should have been.
Awsome song - as ever - and renewed Joel´s voice, I think. Rivera, really excellent. But sorry to say that Rufus' nasal and flat voice does not fit at all with this "heartrending", powerfull song. Joel forever!
Rufus is my Main Man Quirky off the wall Just how I like it, I've been to his Concerts in UK MIND BLOWING come back when safe to do so I will pay for Front Seats. Love you Rufus.
Sorry, their performance is boring to me. Great voices with no stage presence ! A truly artist knows how to move on the stage, not just sit and sing your ass...”even Elvis Presley said this “. No wonder; Freddie Mercury, George Michael and Michael Jackson are such big loss...these 3 greatest legends knows how to move on the stage and they can sing any genres that will blow your mind
At the Kennedy Honors Rufus was the BEST cover. Period.
✅✅
Yesssss!!!!
I was at this show. The best New Years experience ever!

What am amazing song! I've never heard Billy Joel do a substandard performance of it. Seems to be fresh and new every time I hear it.
To my ear, his greatest performance of this song was when he did it in the late 70's...complete with youthful attitude. But he still brings it today.....fab.
His performance at The Grey Whistle was during that time period and a great performance it was
Such a smooth and wonderful performance’
Love them both
You put us all in a New York state of mind!!! Thanx for the post!!!
I live in Orlando and wanted to see this Concert so much! Billy never disappoints! Awesome video.... thank you for sharing!

Great both, but not to forget the saxophone-player!
Mark Rivera, has been with Billy since 82.
What a great performance!
I've been listening to Ben Folds so much, that at the end I expected Billy to say "Rufus Wainwright and his new pants."
now thats what music is all about
Magnifique tout simplement ,quand la variété rejoint le jazz !
Wonderful

That is some EPIC saxophone right there. Gorgeous!
And he normally plays Alto...
@@michaelwright2899 who is the sax player ... i love me a great saz player .. any day, any time ....
Darlene, it’s Mark Rivera. He’s Billy Joel’s regular saxophonist. Since the early 80s anyway.
♥ Rufus
Wonderful !
Legacy. Life. Talent.
That sax man!
Que grandes son los dos!!!
Awesome ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Oh My God.

AMAZING
You're amazing! How about to come to Brazil? I'd love! :-)
First 5 minutes are Billy's casting vid for the role of 2 face in the Batman Trilogy
Funny you say that; as in Uptown Girl he looks a little like Michael Keaton
Rufus is soooo stone
You just have to have a sax on a song about New York.
INSUPERABILI! IRRAGIUNGIBILI! RUFUS WAINWRIGHT MAGNIFICO!
UNICI! FANTASTICI! RUFUS IS LEGEND!❤❤
Joel all day long!!!
Es meritorio, suenan bien. Se nota que hay ensayo en la banda y los que cantan ya no son jóvenes, pero tienen algo. Les puede llegar a ir bien.
넘 좋아
LOVE U both !
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I was there
+Les Finley was that you next to the lady with the big hat?
Favorite of the three favorites I have of Billy Joel. And Billy could've done without Rufus on this, no offense. Still, fantastic - love this song.
is rufus wainwright like on something I never heard of this guy before but he looks high af
Andy H, been living under a rock much? Rufus is magnificent....Rufus keep being yourself💕
Rufus Wainwright is exceptionally talented. You need to listen to his work.

Pretty sure that's Lenny Pickett on Saxophone, from Saturday Night Live fame...Great job by all three meistros, and of course a legendary song.

Alan Hope - Open your ears and mind to a new experience. November 20, 1976 George Harrison and Paul Simon performance of “Homeward Bound” for example.
Rufus is the best but is he sagging?
Di mais,
Rufus looks high ;-)

+americanthai1 Really! How do you know that--what he could have been?
Well do you see him on the Top Charts? Grammy"s? Don't reply to me your too stupid.
He has been clean for years...
Sorry but I can't resist... that would be YOU'RE too stupid. Sorry I was raised by a grammar nazi. Just trying to help. :-)

"you're" the fucking imbecile.
That Rufus is hella nasally.

+Cazagusanos I'm a Wainwright fan, but I have to agree. Not a good fit.

Catch the ending. Though I do agree, unusual pairing. That Rufus gots around.
