Eric Marienthal Performs "New York State of Mind" Live at Spaghettinis. For More Like this" / smoothjazzlive or / jack4951 or www.smoothjazzl... or www.twitter.com
Jeff, Eric and Drummer sound great. I am wondering if that is Jimmy Haslip on bass and if he was a late addition to the band. He seems to be following rather than laying it down. Still this rendition is so soulful, thoughtful, and expertly delivered by Eric, it is stellar.
@chonesong God has nothing to do with it, look within yourself, then practice for many years and you will find the answer. You can't expect God to pay your dues for you!
Hey.. Of course jazz lovers would love it without lyrics but most people wouldn't. This is a great example that jazz guys should play tunes that people know and then the musician can improvise over the chords.. I play Giant Steps on my channel but would never cover it at a gig.. Most people listen to music for the sing alongs.. the Beatles or Billy Joel would not have been very popular if they never wrote lyrics for the tunes and just had a sax play the melody..
Must be him because he is playing on a left-handed bass (More accurately a right-handed turned over) Although he seems 20 years older than he was 10 years ago...
He’s one of my favorite players and he made this one of my favorite songs!
Eric I a great great player and has played with the best of the best including my great idol Lee Ritenour. Keep it going Eric!

Bloody hell, what a line up! Groove meisters all of them 😎
Oh wow! This gave me goosebumps all over! I love this song anyway, but this version is amazing.
Jazz isn't the notes you play... It's the way you play the notes you play.
Eric is a SICK alto player. Nobody does it better. Period.
Hey! I was here! Great job with Jeff Lorber too!
Ce musicien est génial. Quel groove.
Majestic Eric
6:43 is the best part... bone chilling...
My favorite Billy Joel song
Eric plays also on the new record of Shyla Zoet. Available at Jas Rok Bloes recordstore in Dordrecht, The Netherlands.
Awesome
It's very very nice.
AWESOME
Chills!
Great Eric but Gary Novak on the drums!!! WOW!!
omg his tone is AMAZING having him in a orchestra or huge band would be a waste of talent and imagine how good he would be with written music
He plays with written music all the time. Hes a #1 session player and records with many big bands playing lead alto. One heck of a musician.

Curious. Does any one minor what sax, mouthpiece and reed Eric used here?

I LOVE JEFF LORBER
Magestic Eric 🙋♀️😂
Whoever disliked this is going to hell...
Is that Jimmy Haslip?

He's a professional, he's allowed to
What clip-on microphone is Eric using?
8:07.... just.....how?
L E G E N D A R I O
Is that Jimmy Haslip on bass?
I think so. Jimmy has the hair, is a lefty and plays a right handed bass with the strings upside down. How many bass players fit that description?
Lorber!
would we like this song if billy didn't write words for it?
yes we would
