They may say that they want freedom for themselves, but the Scoia'tael's actions do more harm than good in the end and it's clear that they don't always live up to their supposed standards of equality (look at how elves treat dwarves for instance).
Most of it completely great, but Emhyr planned to get rid of Scoiatel either way. It wasn't his loss, he didn't regret that. Losing battle of Brenna wasn't so big for them. The main goal of the second war was destroying all the economy of the Northern Kingdoms. Burning cities, manufactures, everything that could make coin. So no other choice for North than start buying things from Nilfgaard. Everything in books tells us that Emhyr planned it like that. He didn't want to conquer North, at least not now. His army burned everything on their way, so northerners would have difficult years after the war. Emhyr just made it ready for the third war. And I think that CD Project RED is continuing that plot. Thats the invasion, the third one, the one that is suppose to win it all, and the one we will see in the Wild Hunt game :)
It's worth to notice Nilfgaard is tolerant and supporting towards the Elves because its culture is highly inspired on the elven one. When the great human landing on the continent began, those who landed at River Alba were welcomed by so-called "Black Seidhe", and adopted their language (Nilfgaardian is de facto slightly modified Elven) and culture, including solar religion (Nilfgaardians worship the Great Sun - Ard Feainn in their/Elven language). Among smallfolks in the North there are even rumors that the "Black Ones" are of elven origins, what is rather false.
In the end, no matter which banner you wave, who's colors you wear, or what race you hail from, it doesn't matter. In the end, it's just people killing people, over ideals, beliefs and fears.
A human is a person, a animal is not a person. Since those creatures aren't humans they are not people thus no it isn't the same. All races of humanity and humanity alone deserve equal status. Any thing outside of humanity is a beast and should be tamed and used to further humanity but not wasted in brutal fashions because they have a use like how dogs are useful for hunting or how a cow is useful for pulling plows.
nekocekoBiH Hmm, the definition of a person: a human regardless of age. doesn't say anything about other sentient beings. Also it isn't racist it is speciest since they aren't a race of humanity. Are you not speciest to dogs, to cows, to dolphins? If a cow suddenly gained the ability to think at a higher level would that stop you from eating a hamburger? Of course not. Also I am not racist since all races of humanity are part of humanity with no real genetic differences other than cosmetic differences such as skin tone. Elves however are a separate species with differing bone structures, bodily compositions and mental capacity. Games tend to use the word races incorrectly to describe differing species for simplicity. Now we can obviously say that a Elf is not the same as a human they have obvious differences. Why then would they be treated the same? If they aren't the same why should they be treated equally? It is like a pencil and a tree they are not the same and you would not treat them the same because they are literally not the same. Same goes for Elves and Humans.
Darken De la Espada Are you mental? The Witcher isn't set in the real world. It's set in a fictional world, with it's own rules and laws of the universe. Elves are people. So are dwarves, gnomes, halflings, dryads and all the other non-humans. No, they're not people in the real world. Because they don't exist. How old are you? 5? This is some really simple shit that you're failing to grasp. The way you think about these things is just sick. It doesn't matter that they're not real, it's sociopathic.
nekocekoBiH Your argument isn't very credible because you are using such violent words. I will try to salvage some of your argument from the rubble of vulgarity and insults. You say they are people simply because they exist in that world and not in ours? The definition stands because to be a person does not mean to a sentient it means to be a human. The Elvish equivalent would probably just be the word Elf, Elvish or those similar words that are the same as the name of the species. The Human and Elven minds come from two different species thus, they work differently meaning the idea of being a person is for humans and the idea of being Elvenly is for the Elves. People is the nature of being human. While Elvenly is the nature of being a Elf. Two different concepts. Also no one says sentient beings couldn't exist in reality but if they did the idea of being a person is not possible to be given to them because to be a person is to have the nature associated with being human which they are not. Now I would like to ask you to state your points in a less hostile manner without throwing insults in a aggressive manner so I may more easily take your argument seriously.
Scoia'tael means "squirrel" in the tongue of the Aen Seidhe. It's impressive how such a fearsome group of guerilla fighters have such an innocent name.
Loving these! They are tiding me over until I can get time to sit down and read the books. Would be cool if you narrated the official books so I could listen on audio! Wish that was a thing.
Dol Blathanna would've given you the perfect opportunity to talk about the actual situation between humans and elves. With Toruviel there is a connection to the horrible situation the elves were in before the war, the even worse one after it and the humans who began to see them as victims of the wars. Dol Blathanna also was pretty cheap if you think of it. Getting a sovereign state for the elves in exchange for the officers of the Vrihedd brigade ist the best deal they ever got. And Nilfgaard didn't "sell them out", they were handled as war criminals by the northeners. Nilfgaard agreed, allowing the entire rest of the brigade to walk away unharmed.
Can someone tell me if the Witcher series is any good? I'm assuming it's probably closer to Dragon Age than Skyrim, but I only first heard about it a few days ago about the new one coming out. Which does look good, really pretty haha, but I prefer story quality more than anything else.
For those who say that elves are not human, it's fairly documented than humans and elves can produce fertile hybrids, biologically it blurs the line between the two species. One could argue that they are the same species, the same way huskies and pugs are dogs.
It is nice to see the ShoddyCast branching out and doing well, with that said - the only reason I ever subscribed to them was for Elder Scrolls lore : /
Don't know why you're comparing two games on a comment that has nothing to do with it. Incase your knew to shoddycast this is a channel by gamers for gamers to inform about lote they may have missed or to introduce to games with vast amount of lore. It's not the place tp spout your idiotic blind fanboy bullshit. Also op I've also been subbed since TES lore too seems so long ago.
It's the same as the history the game is inspired by. The Holy Roman Empire (aka Nilfgard) was economically, militarily, and culturally more advanced than it's eastern neighbors like Poland and other baltic kingdoms (aka the northern kingdoms). So no, it wouldn't really be bad for the general population. Maybe even an improvement. It's more just a matter of independence than actual quality of life. Take what I'm saying with a grain of salt. I'm not that familiar with medieval eastern european history or the witcher book series.
Isaac Sorrels I see what you mean, but from the way life is described in the Northern Kingdoms, for humans who are mid to low born and elder races its pure shit and grimdark as hell. I guess independence is nice, but why Nilfgard has not tried to make the populace rise up and help them is a shock to me. So far I've seen almost everything in Nilfgard being better, if the Nordlings heard about this they would want a piece of it. But screw that, lets get kicked by snobbish nobles and lynch elves instead, that seem better than wasting away to the rampant disease.
There aren't many people of color in the continent, Geralt met a few Ofieri but we can't tell for sure since Geralt isn't the racist sort, so we can't really know.
its so wierd how in the seties scoiatel are the good guys while in the game they are more like terrorists. i have to read more books too. i actually stopped the game when I had to choice to side with one.
James Moulin-Gower IRL/in our corporeal reality in regard to earth’s land creatures it’s not impossible for members of 2 different and distinct species to crossbreed and produce fertile children. It’s also not uncommon for members of the same species yet of different and distinct branches/races to interbreed and either miscarry or produce sickly children.
Why the hell can't humans and elves EVER get along?! I asked the same question on the Dragon Age video regarding elves, as well. In both worlds, Dragon Age & The Witcher, men and elves are always at eachother's throats. Why do they hate one another so much?!
It's hard for me to put the Scoia'tael into a category of freedom fighters or terrorists. I see where they are coming from but I don't feel like they can achieve what they want through the methods they employ. They are just as racist against humans as the humans are against them. I guess, that is what I love about the game. There are no easy decisions and no easy categories for actions and people. They just are and you have to live with them.
If I remember correctly, the books were explaining it as Scoia'tael being not much more than young elves in whose ears Nilfgard whispers tales of an ancient glory and blinds them with unrealistic dreams and pointless hatred. In this 'game' Scoia'tael are just pawns in the hands of Nilfgard and they were never meant to achieve anything but kill themselves and as many northerners as possible in the process. The old and wise elves in general stay out of it because they see through Nilfgard's deception, but the really sad part is that only young elves can procreate.
TheMisterMotU not to mention they are hypocrites cause the elves did the exact same things the humans are doing to the dwarves halflings and gnomes before the humans came
Gilberto Tabares in this lore? humans defeat dwarves and elves and treat the elder races as "underclass" cityzens, to the point the elves are actually dying out??? i mean if you can find me a single living neandathal or halfling today or any other species of human? no? pritty accurate reprisentation of humans to me... i mean hell even intelegent animals like whales or... this witcher universe is just... beautifull... the scoia'tael need to have just ONE no b.s. objective. the annex and or genocide of humanity from "THEIR" continent. and it agn't like humans are exactly "nice" to each other ethier...

Jewbear1884 Very true
One mans freedom fighter is another mans terrorist.
Freedom fighters
both
This guy's voice is like if the concept of "Smooth" had a voice.

Are you roleplaying, or are you just an innate racist who expresses his racism through hating fictional races?
nekocekoBiH Hmm, the definition of a person:

thanks for this series guys. just picked up the witcher 2. i've waited for 4 years. this helped me catch up on the lore. :)
Woah Woah Woah ! It's three dog! He's narrating! Omg I have to watch the whole series now!
The manner in which Eleves are treated in this universe, is really fascinating. It sorta' reverts the regular fantasy racism were treated to.
Keep up the good work, and thanks for such a awesome lore series
So, the next episode is about the Order of the Flaming Rose? I remember that mindfuck at the end of W1. Good times.
I mostly just watch this channel for the relaxing voices of the narrators. Three Dog included.

It all depends on a persons perspective. To the officers and those close it was a betrayal.
just finneshed witcher 2 for first time literally like 2 hours ago. it was awesome.
keep it up, thanks a lot such great lore series.
I recommend setting speed of video to 1,25 or 1,5..
Great series tho, just the kind of Witcher videoes I was hoping to find :)
What the music in the end?
ohhh this is sooo good
Scoia'taeeeel!!!
can someone please tell me the name of the song in the final credits
Can someone tell me if the Witcher series is any good? I'm assuming it's probably closer to Dragon Age than Skyrim, but I only first heard about it a few days ago about the new one coming out. Which does look good, really pretty haha, but I prefer story quality more than anything else.
Stan_The_Man
It’s great, one of the best fantasy series since LoTR.
song name at the end?
Song at the end ?

please someone tell me the song they played in the ending of the video
Oh man, 6:42
I missed Iorveth in the Witcher 3.
Does anyone know where to find the music for this?
What is the music at the end please ? :)
It is nice to see the ShoddyCast branching out and doing well, with that said - the only reason I ever subscribed to them was for Elder Scrolls lore : /
Play the witcher 2. It's an amazing and more rewarding game than say, Skyrim

What is that music in the first two minutes?
So what you are telling me is that these guys are the Black Panthers of the Witcher's world? Got it.
awesome vidoes all of them you helped ppl enjoy witcher 3 much better thank you
Dude is this guy's voice the voice of Tyreal from Diablo 3? Also, he sounds like Telltale's Lee from The Walking Dead
What's the music in the end?
found it
Elder Scrolls Lore: Gray Fox please :)
Gods! What a fantastic day!
wherever there's destruction or betrayal there's always a human behind it .. damn humans.. nice video thanks!
To be honest, would it really be bad for the North if Nilfgard won? So far it doesn't seem so bad.

The animator looks like the same guy/team that did Darkest Dungeon.
Sfogliatelle?? Ovah here!!!
Do humans still discriminate by color in this world? Or is it just pointy ears and stature?
Peter Hanson pointy ears and stature
There aren't many people of color in the continent, Geralt met a few Ofieri but we can't tell for sure since Geralt isn't the racist sort, so we can't really know.
Peter Hanson
There are few non-“White” humans in the Witcherverse which interact with the Nordlings and the Nilfgaard Empire so I don’t think so.
And what about the Yaevinn? He was elves leader in WItcher 1!
Iorveth is better to side with then roche
Vriheeeedd!!!! 💚🏹💚🏹
Love you
Focking Knife Ears.
SWEET!
What's with all the people standing in rain?
Är dem en komedigrupp eller?
its so wierd how in the seties scoiatel are the good guys while in the game they are more like terrorists. i have to read more books too. i actually stopped the game when I had to choice to side with one.
Nine official from the empire disliked :P
Two witchers on a row where's the fallout?!
Not even one Gwynbleidd comment? Meh...
I swear he flat out quit on TES.
so does the term racist still mean the same to humans and elves? or are they "speciest"
Well racist really. Elves can crossbreed with humans.
James Moulin-Gower

Hatred will always bring more and more hatred
Great lore series! But damn, almost every single pronunciation is off.
i've seen saskia without the armor.. she breathed fire.. haha..
If you had said ´´she was hot´´ instead of ´´she breathed fire´´ you would have been ten times more clever.
raulprima haha.. yeah, i missed it by a mile.. oh well, maybe in the next video..
The whole comment is unnecessary tbh.

Ok... show of hands, anybody else sick of humans being portrayed as the most evil thing since cancer?
So that's a no? I'm alone in this? Sigh.
+Gilberto Tabares Yes. Truth be told, humans are dicks, be it in real life or in fiction.
+Gilberto Tabares we are the most evil thing since ever
It's not how they are portrayed.
Why are most good rpgs innately racist.
@Laoch hide out fear oficial being socially hated
@Laoch politcaly correct is a stain
witcher 2 has too many quick time events
roses are red
Im glad CDP RED there will not be QTE in TW3. I hated this.
*Facepalm*
Wtf? Just wtf? The pronunciation again....Aedirn...
Come on people!
Fallout is better
Then dont watch the video....

So different, we cant make a comparison.
