The explanation of how the Withcer's almost went extinct in this video is through the games interpretation. Dont get me wrong I like how the game is different from the comic and books but I thought it would interesting what other people thought of the other story. In the comics that came out in the 90's it was the Cat school that betrayed the Wolf school and nearly wiped them out. the comic never came to the States but its called The Betrayal. Just thought I would throw that bit of interesting information out there.
Now THAT'S how you make a lore video on Witchers! There were no errors and you covered pretty much everything important without focusing on something unimportant. The only things I have to add to this video would be some small points you didn't mention: -the different witcher schools that exist aside from the wolf school of Kaer Morhen -some prominent mutations (you mentioned the eyes, but the occasional white hair would've been nice too and the incredibly increased muscle density) -a basic list of the weapons witchers use, swords and magic are a good start, but they also use other ways to get silver into contact with monsters, like chains and gloves with silver studs -the negative effect of the mutation, infertility, of course But aside from that this was WAY better than the previous videos and now I'm actually stoked to see more. I hope you redo the first two, because like this, with proper facts and focus on the important parts, this series will be probably my favorite for some time.
All on point, only thing I would add to the infertility is also a loss of sexual interest. (To have Witchers focused on a task of killing monsters) Which Geralt doesn't have, because his trial of grasses was ended sooner then it should have. (Vesemir saved him, because of emotional bond. Geralt woudn't probably pull thought the trial and die)
František Hájek Really? I've never heard of that before... where do you get that information from? Right, I completely forgot that the mutations are also supposed to remove any emotions and turn witchers into something like golems.
***** It is possible that I remember something wrong. Because when you play games, read books and I even watched the series (movie was god awful, series wasn't THAT bad. Maybe they adjusted the lore a little bit to explain why Geralt have emotions. Sorry, I probably just mixed it all up little bit :)
Slayerlord0 I've never played fallout 3, decided to take it a pon myself to download it, will see you in about a month but if the games any good ill see you in a year haha ;)
HAHA THAT VOICE, soooo many memories of a happy sounding wasteland. I have really been missing hearing from him Erik again. I could just have searched for it, but odly enough i didn't.
Dylan Trent As Geralt said in the Last Wish book, humans like to invent monsters so they seem less monstrous themselves (a rough summary of his speech to Dandelion)
Unmukt Joshi No. Let me introduce you to quote from The Last Wish book spoken by Geralt himself: "Każdy wiedźmin ma dwa miecze. Nieżyczliwi mawiają, że ten srebrny jest na potwory, a ten z żelaza na ludzi. To oczywiście nieprawda. Są potwory, które można ugodzić wyłącznie srebrnym ostrzem, ale istnieją i takie na które działa tylko żelazo." Which translates to: "Every witcher has two swords. Uncharitable people say that the silver one is for the monsters, while the steel one is for humans. That's false. There are monsters that can be pierced only by a silver sword, but there are also ones affected only by iron." So both witcher swords are clearly for actual monsters, because witchers are highly professional monster slayers protecting the humanity, not merely some mercenaries. And both swords are steel to begin with. Silver is too mild to be forged into effective weapon. Only flat of the sword, the tip and the crossguard are silvered. The blade itself is steel, so it can stay sharp and be resharpened.
I think this ought to be expanded into another series, talking about all the lore introduced in the 3rd game and the books. Maybe ShoddyCast can mod the game and make another Storyteller like they did with Fallout and Skyrim, only this time we follow a Witcher from one of the other schools. Maybe the Griffin or the Cat.
Damn these videos are awesome!! I already know everything that was said (as I am a huge Witcher fan), but I still love hearing it told again and in such an eloquently and succinctly way. Great job and thanks! I can't wait for The Witcher 3! Also, these are a great resource to refer people who haven't played The Witcher 1 & 2 that are going to play three and need to catch up without getting lost in the rabbit hole of wikis.
awesome job. Maybe you should do a mass effect series as well Shoddy. ME3 may not have had a good reception, but people enjoy the lore from that series too...
I have a question. Is it possible for a mage or sorcerer to also become a Witcher? If it was then it would be safe to assume that they would be insanely powerful. Has it ever been done before? Or do we just not know?
As far I can remember Geralt was given the offer to become a mage by Vilgefortz, but only because his mother was a sorceress. How it goes other way round - from mage to witcher - Im not sure, but rather not - there would be some already. For now witchers are reliant on mages to help "produce" new witchers.
Witchers are trained since childhood as well like sorcerers. But in witcher world there is special organisation, grand jury, wich ensures that every person with even little magic sensitivity is trained to become a mage or at least tought to control their power to avoid becoming mentally ill. So, even if talented boy makes his way to witcher shool the grand jury can take him away to train him as a mage.
The Witchers are amazing and also unfortunate because of what they are. Monster hunters who hunt monsters and are feared as monsters themselves. Outcasts becoming even more distinct, more persecuted than they already were. An unfortunate group of rare people that one may liken to elves and sorceresses in the modern day. There's nothing more sad than a world that condemns you to extinction despite a clear niche for you to fill, without some way to bounce back against the slow death of your order.
for the record. there were 4 schools of the witcher. the school of the viper, cat, griffon and wolf. Kaer Morhen was the stronghold of school of the wolf and the largest of the witcher schools. when it was destroyed only the witchers from the school of the wolf were killed. the school of the viper had the most detailed library and likely contains enough information to bring about the return of the witchers, but school of the viper went rogue and began assassinating southern kings on behalf of the empire of Nilfgaard and nobody knows why the Griffon and Cat witchers have not been seen in recent years.
The witchers from the school of cat were badly mutanted, sth went there wrong and they were mentaly ill, they were very brutal and even insane. That was said in the last Sapkowski's book - published two years ago or sth like That..
It wasn't that the school of the cat were badly mutated it's more that they reacted in a bad way to the mutations and had a high percentage of cases of insanity. It's implied that this is because most of them were elves and they can't cope with the mutations in the same way as humans
Isnt there a school of the bear as well? Im asking cuz there is a Bear Witcher Gear set in the game just like there is Wolf, Cat, Griffin amd Viper. Also in the game its the cat school thst went rogue and dealt in assassinations
Good video, thanks. I would just like to say to anyone who has yet to watch this, be careful, it shows spoilers from the games. Just a heads up for those who haven't played them yet.
I think the ending of this video needs clarification. The mob that attacked Caer Morghan only destroyed the lab of the Wolf school of witchers, leaving only Vesemir alive. This effectively ends the line of wolf school witchers, but there are still two (or three depending on whether the game is canon) other schools. Although something to be mentioned is that the fate of the Viper school is uncertain. According to Letho the school has fallen to ruin, but the Nilfgaardian Emperor promised to restore the school if he opened the North for invasion, whether the Emperor will keep the promise is another question. Although something to note is that the Viper school seems quite distinct from the Wolf school, and presumably other schools. Apparently the south doesn't have as large of a monster problem, so the school shifted its focus to combatting humans (remember the dual-short swords, and Serrit). Perhaps this shift in role meant that they were simply outcompeted, and perhaps they still retain the labs for mutation and there might exist a witcher of the Viper school that still retains knowledge of the ritual/process (this seems doubtful, since its implied that Letho rallied all the remaining Viper school witchers).
I know this was a while ago but just to add something:The school of the cat pretty much became hired assassins and were pretty much wiped out because of that.
Wraith terrorizing a village, fuck em. Worgs attacking merchants along the road, fuck em. A dragon besieging a castle, fuck em. A Witcher in need of aid, bro handshake.
Please do a fallout 4 pre release history edition. That would be nice if you could condense all the previous lore that relates to fallout 4 like the commonwealth video and whatever else is available. how do you kill a monster, hire a monster. In games and anime that can sometimes be seen a slave hunting slaves for there master, a vampire hunting vampires for a cause etc.
Jacob Smith Well i like the way shoddy cast do lore vids, because they make it easy to understand. i do like vaatividya but maybe shoddy should give it a go.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I wouldnt watch it, the souls series is one of my all time favorite franchises, I just dont know if they would do it due to the pre-existing market. However thinking about it, the Lore is heavily up to interpretation of what is presented. It could be quite interesting. (I know the 2 statements seem contradictory but they are 2 thoughts I had simultaneously)
This sounds like three dog from fallout 3 or Nasir from Skyrim. I'm guessing that's because there the same voice actors, since they've reviewed both of the games.
If Vesemir was the only survivor then that means the information on the trial of grasses was lost before Geralt started witcher training. I.e. How did Geralt go through the mutations if the methods were lost.
Geralt went through the trials before the secrets were lost. Only the Elder Witchers and their mages knew how to perform the trials to create Witchers, and they were all killed by Salamandra attack on Kaer Morhen in Witcher 1 I believe. Vesemir wasn't the only survivor. Idk why they said that. This lore series was kind of disappointing because it only really skims the surface of lore, and most of the people who played the games already know all this stuff. One wicher is as good as ten men on a Battlefield. Imagine turning you were Special Forces soldiers into witcher's they wouldn't be as good because they wouldn't have monster training but in comparison to a run-of-the-mill soldier they would be five times better on the battlefield.
ironically being something like a witcher would be better than being a human. Yeah sure, monster hunting isn't for everyone (hell i'd definitely get my ass killed) and the process of BECOMING one is long, hard, painful, and deadly... but as a being it's much better. Sences are enhanced, endurance is enhanced, life span is a shit ton longer... god damn the witcher universe really captures fearful people too well; shunning a good thing because "it's different"

Right, I completely forgot that the mutations are also supposed to remove any emotions and turn witchers into something like golems.
Books man, books :) I know that the games doesn't exactly follow everything, but the lore is basically the same :)
Is that in the new one, the one between the books and the games? Because I don't remember that one and I read all 7 books about 5 times now...
***** It is possible that I remember something wrong. Because when you play games, read books and I even watched the series (movie was god awful, series wasn't THAT bad. Maybe they adjusted the lore a little bit to explain why Geralt have emotions. Sorry, I probably just mixed it all up little bit :)
This is the voice actor of Nazir off the dark brotherhood omfg!!!!!!
And don't forget Three Dog from Fallout 3. i.e. The best video game D.J. ever.
Slayerlord0 I've never played fallout 3, decided to take it a pon myself to download it, will see you in about a month but if the games any good ill see you in a year haha ;)
WilliamHadley did you honestly think upon was two words if so I guarantee you are gonna reply with English is your second language.
English is my first language.... i live in the uk
and i'm 14 so it's not like i have a teaching degree
the narrator's voice.....what the flip......why is it so freaking majestic and awesome?
i feel sorry for the witchers, they were discriminated by the people that they fought to protect.
And then one day the witchers will be no more and the normal citizens will be in peril, wishing they had not killed off the witchers
Kaneki Ken 金木 研 have we met before? you seemed familiar.
Bernard Rednix not sure
Just like police in the U.S.
Karl Lukan Too soon.
I’m a bit late to this series, but I just wanted to say “outstanding job”! Plus, it’s always great to hear Three Dog!
HAHA THAT VOICE, soooo many memories of a happy sounding wasteland. I have really been missing hearing from him Erik again. I could just have searched for it, but odly enough i didn't.
I just started playing the witcher, I sure am psyched to finish it.
Just be sure to tackle the books as well!
but avoid the TV/movies.... just horrible stuff... find a synopsis if you really want to...
***** Yes! You won't regret it.
How did you enjoy it? Still a fan 6 years later?
They say a witcher carries two swords, one steel for men, one silver for monsters.
They are wrong. Both are for monsters.
Ben Kielar i think the idea comes from that the steel sword is much better at killing a human than a demon or other monsters.
Dylan Trent As Geralt said in the Last Wish book, humans like to invent monsters so they seem less monstrous themselves (a rough summary of his speech to Dandelion)
Unmukt Joshi No. Let me introduce you to quote from The Last Wish book spoken by Geralt himself:

Ben Kielar no some are fragil with silver (wich most of them are) but other are fragil to steel
That's kind of deep man.
But your not wrong, us Human are monsters in our own way.
Man, you guys have some real quality here! Keep up the good work!
Awesome! I discovered the witcher series a few weeks ago and fell in love. Looking forward to more episodes!
Am I the only one who kinda teared up when he mentioned the "Thankless duty" part?
Artix Silver
Nah, man. It’s definitely a sad job with little to no thanking from either side of man nor elder race.
Is this voiced by the guy who voices nazir(The Dark Brotherhood) in skyrim
Yes
and three dog from Fallout 3.
Honestly pretty badass you got 3Dog to do your narration. Just took me all the way back to Fallout 3
Only started watching your videos recently after wanting some more info on the Brotherhood of Steel, then you got me. So, keep up the good work! :D
I think this ought to be expanded into another series, talking about all the lore introduced in the 3rd game and the books. Maybe ShoddyCast can mod the game and make another Storyteller like they did with Fallout and Skyrim, only this time we follow a Witcher from one of the other schools. Maybe the Griffin or the Cat.
least somebody said it
Aleksa Petrovic
You’re most certainly not wrong, man. Shit’s just not the same anymore. Really wish they’d get their shit together.
I really love this series, one of the many game series who i love, yet don't know much lore about. Keep up the great work!
can't wait for the witcher 3, and awesome job shoddy cast I appreciate all the work you do
Damn these videos are awesome!! I already know everything that was said (as I am a huge Witcher fan), but I still love hearing it told again and in such an eloquently and succinctly way.

That outro though... gave me shivers!
Anyone else see the similarities between witchers and the claymores of Claymore?
Imagine if this is the prequel to the "Silver-eyed Witches". Would love to see female version of the witchers and fighting awakened former claymores
Yeah(tho claymores would be too op for the witcher world)
awesome job.
I was just wondering that too! I'm sure the books probably say something about it...

Way to go ShoddyCast! keep up the good work.
Is this guy the voice for 'Nazeem' or whatever the red guard from the Dark Brotherhood's name is? You know from Skyrim?
Sounds exactly like him!
Actually not Nazeem, he was that annoying cloud district guy. I think you meant Nazir ;)
yes, it is.
Hey man. Have bin a fan of you guys now for some time and the witcher lore epic :D
Keep the good work coming :D
Live long and prosper!
Awesome guys, cant wait for another one.
it's three dog HOWWWWWWWWWWWLLLLLLLLLLL!!!! and your listening to shoddy cast :)
Giving you the truth....... no matter how bad it hurts.
Amazing editing and voice acting. I hope I can get this good in the future!

Awesomly done, really enjoyed watching this!
IS THAT THAT THREE DOG VOICEING THIS EPISODE?!?! IF SO IM NOW A FAN OF THE WICTHER
Loving these videos. Really amazing work
Loving the music of the new Witcher!
I would love to see some videos dedicated to each of the witcher schools
"I'll fight monsters for you"
"Sod off, ye a monster by my accountin'. Witcher? Pah! I'd sooner contract a wyvern!"
-plot hole
Such a prophetic video.
Loving the series Keep up the good work.

i like how epilogue shows up on the screen from the short from witcher 2
This in an interesting series for anyone who wants to know more about The Witcher. Thanks for sharing. :)
Anybody know with version of Silver for Monsters is playing at the end? Sounds more energetic than the original.
Good video, thanks. I would just like to say to anyone who has yet to watch this, be careful, it shows spoilers from the games. Just a heads up for those who haven't played them yet.
"She's returned, Gerald." - Tywin Lannister
You no its gonna be a good year when they start with a witches video
Amazing! really good, i liked the end of this one!
Oh wish I discovered this sooner. love the lore of witcher.
Thank you shoddy cast never stop what your doing because your really good at it so just never leave me lol
"Because one dog ain't enough, and two is too low, it's me, Three Dog!"
I'm really starting to love this series! :)
Correct me if I am wrong but didn't Eric Todd Dellums narrated all the episodes in the 2nd season of "How the Universe Works"?
You guys are amazing just keep going I love it
I can't wait for the Witcher 3.
Which version of Silver for monsters is at the outro ?
Dat slav kush to dank, kills 6/10 people.
+satanicdude1 lol
Hey isn't the Narrator the guy who voices Nazir from the Dark brotherhood in skyrim?:>
He's Three dogs.
Yep. He is the voice actor for Nazir and Three Dog. In the description there are the name of the guy too. Erik Dellums. :)
"Fuck all that singing and shit ..."
Erik's voice is awesome
A Bioshock Lore Series would be pretty cool
Anyone else feel like this could be one of Three Dogs radio broadcasts as a story time sort of segment?
Holy shit the one and only Three Dog
What is the end credit music? like i know it is an OST for witches but i don't know the name of it.
It's a song called "Silver For Monsters"
Love this series :3
How did you guys get Three Dog to voice your videos?
Maybe they've asked him? :P
"When universes collide, strange things may happen" ......ye don't say...
Whats the ending song called? is it the Witcher main theme I can never remember
No it's not Witcher main theme, it's just a song from "Sword of Destiny" trailer.
Darthus OK thanks for telling me
Dwayne Hicks As far as I know this song is Sargon by Percival
Is that? The bloke from the dark brotherhoods voice?
So cool man!
Wonderful!
If Dellums narrated it as three dog! Like a "Hey wasteland! Get ready! The lone wanderer is back!" Lol
Is this the same voice actor as Nazir in Skyrim from the dark brotherhood?
NEW LOOOOOOOORE VIDEO
Its just me or the Witcher and Fallout lores of shoddy cast have better voice actors than the TES?
if you meet a witcher toss him a coin oh you valley of plenty
I fucking love this channel great vid as always ;).
Please tell me you're going to cover Jacques de Aldersberg and the Order of the Flaming Rose...
Yes. We are. :)
I'm not 100% but im pretty sure other witcher schools (like the school of the viper) still know how to "do" the trial of the grass no?
the fact that there is no more witchers really makes me sad.
how do you kill a monster, hire a monster. In games and anime that can sometimes be seen a slave hunting slaves for there master, a vampire hunting vampires for a cause etc.
Do a Dark souls lore pls!!
ehhhhh, i really like this channel but I think VaatiVidya already has that front covered beyond anything else.
Jacob Smith Well i like the way shoddy cast do lore vids, because they make it easy to understand. i do like vaatividya but maybe shoddy should give it a go.
dragonkillerz75 I agree, I'd like to see shoddy give a go, they have their own unique way of presenting lore.
sanguinelynx IKR
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I wouldnt watch it, the souls series is one of my all time favorite franchises, I just dont know if they would do it due to the pre-existing market. However thinking about it, the Lore is heavily up to interpretation of what is presented. It could be quite interesting. (I know the 2 statements seem contradictory but they are 2 thoughts I had simultaneously)
damn the narrator's voice is good!
The voice over REALLY sounds like Nazir from Skyrim!!
He is
:)
This sounds like three dog from fallout 3 or Nasir from Skyrim. I'm guessing that's because there the same voice actors, since they've reviewed both of the games.
Helloooooo Capital Wasteland! THIS IS 3 DOG!! OOoooowwwww
Giving you the truth! No matter how bad it hurts.
Fucking love the voice! Again, good work!
Awesome
whether fantasy or reality, none can escape the deadly grasp of ignorance....
threeee doooog!! nice!

finlay mackay Oh, I didn't even know peasants had ever raided Kaer Morhen. Those must have been some ballsy peasants haha.
Holy shit it's three dog!!! how did you get this guy to narrate for you?
I like this
Finally
If I may share my knowledge, swords could be of any steel, not only meteorite. ;)
Three dog auuuuuuuuuuuuu :D love it
If I was a king in temeria I would have all the scribes monks in sorceress's in my Court look into the witcher's pacifically the trial of grasses. because if you learn how to turn men and you take them into witcher's I would do that to an Elite Force in my arm. Why did they get Erik Dellums to narrate this and not Fallout Lore?
By the way guys, humans no longer need witchers because they got numbers, armys and empires
Monhun? time to roast some dinosaur..
ironically being something like a witcher would be better than being a human. Yeah sure, monster hunting isn't for everyone (hell i'd definitely get my ass killed) and the process of BECOMING one is long, hard, painful, and deadly... but as a being it's much better.

SideQuest But you're also infertile and freakishly looking. You know - pale skin, visible vains, cat eyes glowing in the dark. That sorts of things.
