Of the DA:O Main Quests, the dwarven were the most interesting. You had the whole Behlen vs Harrowmont thing. Behlen was a ruthless thug, that pushed for reform, and Harrowmont was an "honourable" conservative that would have closed off Orzammar. Then you had Caradin vs Branka. While you might sympathize with Caradin, you had to realize that the dwarves were losing ground in their current war effort. They needed the golems, regardless of the sacrifices, golems were needed to at least hold the deep roads.
This is one thing I love about Dragon age more precisely Origins and Awakening, there was so much coloured shades it wasn't just this guy is evil this guy is good choose. What made it better but even more interesting is the Dwarven politics what has come up time and time again, Bhelen vs Harrowmont is and I still think the most striving political none clear choice in a game. For me personally I went with Harrowmont and destroyed Anvil, he may be traditional but he keeps the assembly and is more honourable. Where as Bhlen from the get go had fanatics and crazed idiots and killing people betraying people left and right, at same time he brings the lower castes into more of a open roll giving them work and to join the Militia and over good stuff like open trade with surface, but gets rid of the assembly and is killed leaving Orzammar in chaos without people to pick a successor. I picked the none smellier of the rotten eggs in my hope that after Harrowmont died, the assembly picked a much better king and one who was more open like Bhelen but as smart and honourable as Harrowmont. Also it helps if you do the Awakening quest with the stone carving of castles fighting for there home and been honoured I actually hope it changes harrowmonts views (seeing how Awakening was after Origins.)
Cousland Warden At that time, before the Blight was beaten, why did you choose to destroy the anvil? The dwarven society you're thinking of might be destroyed before it could've even come to be.
PotaTOES A lot of reasons, I kill jowan for the same reason as well Blood magic or stuff to do with blood and souls, My warden was highly against it as it was perverse even if it had benefits it was wrong. I wouldn't sacrifice are humanity or living self to just increase our strength even more. I also was glad since I found out what happens later. The anvil was evil Shale and Caradin was right. Its not worth more pain.
It's like how some British people when they say Chinese it sounds like they have an R in there somewhere it is just his way of saying it. At least everyone knows what he means lol
For a more in-depth look at Thedas, visit the lore master who writes for this series @ th-cam.com/users/ladyxinsanity Question of the Week: Besides the language, dwarves also introduced currency, trade and entertainment to humanity. Of all the races residing on Thedas, which do you think has contributed the most to its survival?
It has to be the Dwarves, purely because of the dark spawn are in the deep road not the surfaces and the Dwarves are fighting them. So their bad luck is saving the rest of Thedas.
I'm going to make the Dwarfs great again, and ill build my own Great roads, its gonna be yuge and beautiful absolutely beautiful and those darkspawns will pay for it, with coin and blood and believe me, believe me.
I think it must be pointed out that they missed about the fact that dwarves also revere their ancestors, dead people who were accepted by the stone and resides in it.
Well i guess i wont point out the pronunciation of the words since everyone and their mother did so instead i'll point out that there is no chapter planned for the Qunari (arguably the most mysterious races in thedas), why is this? I feel out of all the races they deserve some coverage so people can understand them a bit more.
As they are so mysterious, they probably don't have much lore yet. They've been mentioned in the series already and may be talked about in the next "Nations" video or somewhere else.
***** Dragon age 2 story was a nice snack with a sour after taste. The ride was interesting and nice because of voice acting and cameos and finding out what has happened after blight etc. But then it has this horrible after taste of realisation of what you just played and why. One can be the fact for what is it 7 years or something full DA2 time line Mage Hawke is not hunted by Templars even when the mage war starts and everything its like, Hey stop that apostate. which the ferelden refuge who is been running around for some years free and killing people? No the little old lady... In short I hope DA:I is going to be DA:O with better graphics and a even more fun ride having the cake and the sweet after taste.
***** Perhaps your refering to the kossith? The technical term for their race but im pointing out that i want to learn more about the ones who follow the qun therefore those are qunari
***** No, the Qun is the religion, the Qunari refers to the collective masses that follow the Qun. The race itself is called the Kossith, which can be either horned or un-horned, either way, they're giant people you dont want to mess with.
I don't think I've ever seen so many people complain about something so minor as a name mis-pronunciation. Anyways, this series is obviously building up to Dragon Age: Inquisition. But why? There's no guarantee it'll be great, and worthy of a lore series.
Neon Scorpion i love these guys a lot but, they could use some work on pronouncing the names of the things they talk about, and it's not just this series, it's all of them. but yeah thayg, what? in game it's pronounced tai-g.
SparksFly2323 I have a feeling the male narrator didn't even play the game. He was just handed a script and was told to read from it. With no knowledge, a lot of those words can be extremely difficult to pronounce.
tom mullen very true, without someone else pronouncing them beforehand, i could be very hard to just read it off of a paper. i kinda thought, at least, that the people narrating have played the game before.
"Hey! thats mine! that..thing, has my thing's. It's got it's sallow, clammy hand's all over my doo-dad's and touching my junk. No-one touches Oghren's junk AND LIVES!!"
not one comment on the fact that dwarves have no magic and are 'stonebound'. I thought that a bit funny considering how browbeating theyve been on magic thus far. I know I'm blithering on a video from last year, but c'mon~ Shoddycast tends to get some fantastic nuance out of their lore series, but this is like missing that Dunmer were once Chimer. I hope it got caught before the epilogue or time after for addendum >.>;
I consider myself a lore master of this series but I actually learned something new here. I'm not too into the dwarves but I didnt know that they had more than one shaperate.
i like the Dwarves and i think if they are going to survive they need to find new living space. Besides it would be easy for them they could tunnel under any threats and surprise attack their enemies.
I'd support any opposing nation that could offer the casteless a home and a place to be accepted, and turn their resourcefulness against key Dwarven cities; the inhabitants being those whom left them to rot. Not just because of liberal-humanitarian reasons, but I feel that'd just be epic and cause a massive turning point in Dwarven history for future reforms of society and economy; no matter the victor.
Raluyen Skylance Yeah the cast (caste?) system does sort of ruin the Dwarves they are otherwise awesome! But maybe we will be able to change the Dwarves with our decisions in inquisition or other future games.
No it sounds to me like they were suggesting the dwarves become less isolationist. Since the Veil has been torn the dwarves will need to take a greater interest in events on the surface and provide help to the human nations facing this new threat. And if they do that they would likely also have to relax the restrictions placed upon surface-dwarves and reform the caste system.
The difference lie more on the elves. While in Lord of the rings they're this Physical and Spiritual superior beings in Dragon Age thy're second class citizens, former slaves, servants and outcasts.
Any opposing nation could offer the casteless a home and a place to be accepted, and turn their resourcefulness against key Dwarven cities; the inhabitants being those whom left them to rot.
I am kind of fond of the dwarves, but less of their caste system. The unity of empire was an illusion and it didn't help them when the Blights hit. To the dwarva, the First Blight never ended at all. I praise them for hardiness, craftsmanship and their worship of the Stone, which is much more tangible than the Maker or the Creators. On a more unsavory note, there is the Carta, a ragtag band of dwarven outlaws that operates anywhere and will pull off any dirty job available. Notable members of the dwarva; Oghren of Orzammar's warrior caste turned Grey Warden recruit, Varric Tethras a surface dwarf, Bodahn and his son Sandal the mobile traders, Harding one of Leliana's scouts, the arcanist rune crafter Dagna, Sigrun of the Legion of the Dead, and to some extent Shale the female dwarf who offered herself to become a golem.
Dwarven society is the most interesting thing of the DA universe, I loved playing as a dwarven noble. Too bad you kept mispronouncing Orzammar. You could have told more about the caste system, but with a 6 minute format I understand that's quite difficult. Otherwise, good work, keep them coming!
I'm sorry, I just want to clarify is ORE-ZAH-MAHR, not OZ-RAH-MAHR. I'm sorry but the way the guy pronounced it just got on my nerves. These are really good and interesting though. Keep up the good work. I'm excited to find out how much of the Qunari I don't know.
The ShoddyCast series always digs up a tonne of information yet misses basic things, most notably pronunciation >.> "Thaigs", "Orzammar", these are spoken SO many times in-game, surely most of your team would have spoken up during recording. Seriously dudes, amazing work, it's just a few basics here and there ^^; Like back in the Elder Scrolls series; "Mephala, prince of sex and murder" Um, nah just plots, secrecy and yeah often murder. Sex is definitely Sanguine, along with partying. Debauchery, yo. Also, the mispronouncing of "Chimer" got me seriously buttmad xD "ky-mer", as is pronounced both in-game and on the wikis.
The only Fantasy game where I actually played a dwarf, and loved it. how odd it is that a generic race like that can be made so appealing with just a few tweaks in appearance and a more in depth face value lore that you can appreciate and sympathies with. Plus not to mention that I thank the stone they weren't some annoying Scottish knockoffs.
Thaig is pronounced taig (like tiger sans the er) not thayg, and Orzammar is pronounced the way it's written, I don't know how you messed that one up...
Odd.........for all the talk of humanity being cruel and incompetent, the dwarfs (and other race's of dragon age) seem to treat they're people very similarly to humans. Guess they have more in common then they think/let on.
Thaigs: Pronounced with a "tie" sound. The "h" is silent. And pronounced more like "thai" as in Thailand..? Again, learned something new as the function of the shaperate and the divisions within them were always a bit confusing to me.
personally I really do not like the bleak and emotionless voices of this series. unlike TES or Fallout lore, they make DA sound like if they could not care any less.... which I doubt is the case. SO A LITTLE MORE EMOTION please? otherwise great to have DA lore out, and thanks for all the hard work you have done so far!
Alas, I don't think this lore was properly researched before making the video. D: The caste system goes in order of Deshyrs (Heads of each household), Nobles, Warriors, Artisan, Smith, Miner, Merchant, Servant, Castless. You also mispronounced Thaig (the H is silent), ans Orzamar doesn't have a G in it.
Ezequiel Morales I'm a drunk dyslextic, from a nation that dosn't have English as it's primary language (like most people....English part) so I have a pretty good excuse. (I'm fully aware of the errors in this respons I just don't give a fuck.)
Why do they refer to the stone as a she in this? I thought in-game the Dwarves never referred to the stone as a she or a he, it was just ~the stone~. Am I missing something?
mineo411 The Stone is referred to with a female pronoun in Dragon Age: The World of Thedas. It makes sense, since they consider themselves "born" of the stone, and females are those that give birth.
I know this is a very old comment, but I felt the need to assist. In the lore of Dragon Age, Dwarves have lived underground for several millennia, usually very close to lyrium deposits in order to mine it. Having done so over such a large span of time, the Dwarven race has evolved an insensitivity to magic, as lyrium is basically crystallised magical essence. As a result, Dwarves are incapable of developing magical ability, aswell as being unable to dream when they sleep. This does have a boon, though, as their near-immunity to magic makes them able to harvest and work with lyrium safely, whereas a human wouldn't be able to. This also grants Dwarves an inherent resilience against all forms of offensive magic, usually implemented in the games as a racial passive that gives extra magic damage resistance. I hope this has been helpful, and that you have a wonderful day.
The worst thing about dragon age is their love for humans......and almost all fantasy games...The Dwarfs are freaking awesome......The elfs were awesome like 1000 years ago....like all fantasy....and the humans are domenating everyhing...like all fantasy.....Cant we get more races than humans?
I find it wierd that you decided to keep Fallout lore everyother week that did get alot of funding from fans, but the obviusly less popular Dragon Age lore you have once every week.
Kinda sad to see they didn't do a video talking about the Qunari(yes i know its a religion but still can be made into a video that could easily clear up that misunderstanding) Also sad they hardly touched on any of the lore in their videos so far... Its like the most brief introduction ever, i know its hard to fit it in to short videos but you have elder scrolls lore videos that are 10+ minutes. So you seriously should have been able to go more into detail for example the legion of the dead.. You didn't even say why they were called that or anything you just said oh they fight darkspawn.... Not about how the moment they leave their Thaigs they are considered dead by their society and family which is why they are named legion of dead and how they are never allowed to come back. Also how most do it to make up for some great dishonor/crime they or their ancestors brought to their family sense by sacrificing their lives in defense of their Thaigs and to die in battle is considered one of the greatest of honors and not dying in one a dishonor whether its against darkspawn or not. Basically your bad ass dwarf spartans... Still im very happy you are atleast doing a lore about DA which might introduce it to new players... But then again I would rather new players get a really good look at its lore and not some tiny snidbit..
Probably should mention that the gameplay footage used is from Dragon Age Origins.. and not the new game that looks a billion times better coming out next month.
"thayg" "ozrammar" it's pronounced Tieg and Orzammar if you're going to make lore videos about a series, at least take the time to pronounce things right
What a poor way to compare me to the video publisher. I don't give a shit about who creates a lore video, but don't make one if you don't do your research.
Dwarves are my favorite. Hopefully we'll see more of their cities and culture in the next games

I choose to keep the anvil
This is one thing I love about Dragon age more precisely Origins and Awakening, there was so much coloured shades it wasn't just this guy is evil this guy is good choose. Hey ShoddyCast I just wanted to say thank you for these great videos, about the Dragon Ages, and the Elder Scrolls.
Keep up the good work.
how did no one notice the guy mispronouncing or-za-mmar as oz-ra-mmar
Yep, kept bothering me.
And Thaigs being mispronounced as well
RP Tyr
yeah but that one's at least understandable
It's like how some British people when they say Chinese it sounds like they have an R in there somewhere it is just his way of saying it. At least everyone knows what he means lol
They pronounced Shaperate wrong too

Hoping the new game gets you more views guys these are great!!!!
ShoddyCast sorry to be a picky bugger but I have to point out that the name Dwarven settlements is pronounced Tai-gs, not Thay-gs.
It has to be the Dwarves, purely because of the dark spawn are in the deep road not the surfaces and the Dwarves are fighting them.

Will there not be an episode on the Quinari?
Just let Ashe narrate it as well, 'O*Z*ramar' good lord >.>

Salazar Ravenclaw I believe you, brother.
Is it working? It feels like it’s not working
Love that you are maling da lore since it's one of my fav game series, also love the switching between voices keep op the good work!

Self-sufficient and self-reliant!?!?!? Who the hell wrote that line? The dwarves depend on trade with the surface!!! LOL!
I don't think I've ever seen so many people complain about something so minor as a name mis-pronunciation.
Anyways, this series is obviously building up to Dragon Age: Inquisition. But why? There's no guarantee it'll be great, and worthy of a lore series.
So...'ozramar'. That's a thing.
yeah seriously what the heck, it's pronounced a bunch of times in game without any accent, so why don't they get it right here?
SparksFly2323 Same with thAYg (wtf?). So weird.

Were they suggesting the Dwarves invade the surface? Cause i would totally support that.
Why?
i like the Dwarves and i think if they are going to survive they need to find new living space. Besides it would be easy for them they could tunnel under any threats and surprise attack their enemies.
I'd support any opposing nation that could offer the casteless a home and a place to be accepted, and turn their resourcefulness against key Dwarven cities; the inhabitants being those whom left them to rot. Deeply angry TH-cam never recommended me this channel. Subscribed!
I love Dragon Age, but at times I can't help but be reminded by Middle Earth
The difference lie more on the elves. While in Lord of the rings they're this Physical and Spiritual superior beings in Dragon Age thy're second class citizens, former slaves, servants and outcasts.
+thejompi For some reason, I often think that was a jab at how perfect the Elves were in LOTR.
theg's? no thaigs
Indeed. Thaigs pronounced like Thailand...
I loved this and dwarves are on of my favorite races in Dragon age. Can you also make a lore video about the Qunari?
Since when is the stone a "she"?
And what about surface dwarfs?
I noticed there isn't a chapter for the Qunari, the race not the religion. Kinda hard to separate the two
Probably coming the 21st.
The race itself is called "kossith"
Rhagos, King of Flames nope, it's not.
Any opposing nation could offer the casteless a home and a place to be accepted, and turn their resourcefulness against key Dwarven cities; the inhabitants being those whom left them to rot.
Dwarves master race!
The first time I ever beat Origins was with a Dwarf Warrior.
The second time was with a Dwarf Rouge.
The Dwarves in Dragon Age are fucking awesome.
I'm curious why you've left out the Qunari?
These are wonderful videos.
So glad they worked with Ashe (Lady Insanity) on this series she's awsome
Single Dwarven merchant, fighting for her client! Wearing sexy battle armor & being self reliant!
ending song is ferelden at war
Thaig (pronounced T-aig) Orzammar (pronounced Or-za-mar). Tell them Ashe! :)
Ozrammar...Ozrammar...Ozrammar...*Screams and runs outside*
Dwarven society is the most interesting thing of the DA universe, I loved playing as a dwarven noble. Too bad you kept mispronouncing Orzammar. You could have told more about the caste system, but with a 6 minute format I understand that's quite difficult. Otherwise, good work, keep them coming!
The pronunciations of "Orzammar" and "thaig" were questionable, but otherwise it's a very nice episode.
Very nice video.
Outro song?
4:27 saying Orzammar wrong
4:28 - "Ozrammar" lol. Well done in finding narrators who have no knowledge of the game.
Chapter 3 - The ones that matter.
Shoddy Cast should should do a few videos on Runescape. (Or am I forgetting something they said?)
great stuff just picked up the game, why are people so concerned about how to pronounce a word... really.
I'm sorry, I just want to clarify is ORE-ZAH-MAHR, not OZ-RAH-MAHR. I'm sorry but the way the guy pronounced it just got on my nerves.
These are really good and interesting though. Keep up the good work. I'm excited to find out how much of the Qunari I don't know.
lolz OZrammar. nope.
Thaig (t sound, not th), Kal-Sharok (shar-awk, not share-ik) and Orzammar. You're welcome! :D
Self reliant and sufficient, but reportedly cant survive without the surface trade and so is truthfully neither of these things.....
watching this before i play a dwarf in the dragon age table top game lmao
"BROTHERS OF THE MINE REJOICE!"
"SING SING SING WITH ME!"
No magic abilities and dwarf in tewinter mage robes.... comone shoddycast XD
The ShoddyCast series always digs up a tonne of information yet misses basic things, most notably pronunciation >.>
"Thaigs", "Orzammar", these are spoken SO many times in-game, surely most of your team would have spoken up during recording.
Seriously dudes, amazing work, it's just a few basics here and there ^^;
Like back in the Elder Scrolls series; "Mephala, prince of sex and murder"
Um, nah just plots, secrecy and yeah often murder. Sex is definitely Sanguine, along with partying. Debauchery, yo.
Also, the mispronouncing of "Chimer" got me seriously buttmad xD "ky-mer", as is pronounced both in-game and on the wikis.
I fucking love the Dwarves!
Dwarves live in Thaygs and the great city of Brok Ozwiler.
Someone tell the dude that its OR ZAMMAR NOT OZ RAMMAR
Def rolling as a dwarf in DA:I
Ahhhhhh... you are pronouncing Orzammar wrong!!!
Wait a minute, I thought Kal Sharok still traded with Tevinter?
The only Fantasy game where I actually played a dwarf, and loved it. how odd it is that a generic race like that can be made so appealing with just a few tweaks in appearance and a more in depth face value lore that you can appreciate and sympathies with. Plus not to mention that I thank the stone they weren't some annoying Scottish knockoffs.
Which is ironic considering that typical fantasy Dwarves are WAY more connected to the Norse mythos. That's always bugged me, too.
Geraduss Not a lot of Fantasy games where you can actually play as a dwarf.
Qunari?
they even say the right pronunciation in the game! I dint issued
The ext chapter should be interesting
Thaig is pronounced taig (like tiger sans the er) not thayg, and Orzammar is pronounced the way it's written, I don't know how you messed that one up...
Odd.........for all the talk of humanity being cruel and incompetent, the dwarfs (and other race's of dragon age) seem to treat they're people very similarly to humans.
Guess they have more in common then they think/let on.
the fanboy in me wants to complain about the mispronunciations, but they made me giggle so ehxD
Oh God the mispronunciations were horrific and constant. Don't recall any mention of surface Dwarves either.
Thaigs: Pronounced with a "tie" sound. The "h" is silent. And pronounced more like "thai" as in Thailand..? Again, learned something new as the function of the shaperate and the divisions within them were always a bit confusing to me.
if you guys are going to do these videos you need to up your pronunciation game
Why do dwarves always die out in most fantasy worlds?. Lord of the rings, elder scrolls, dragon age...
Thaig is pronounced Tyg but still good video
The Dwarves from Dragon Age are the only Dwarven Race that suck.
personally I really do not like the bleak and emotionless voices of this series. unlike TES or Fallout lore, they make DA sound like if they could not care any less.... which I doubt is the case. SO A LITTLE MORE EMOTION please?
otherwise great to have DA lore out, and thanks for all the hard work you have done so far!
give me a good Dwarven reason and sod the rest
lead them or fall
Alas, I don't think this lore was properly researched before making the video. D:

and it's "oRZamar"...
Maybe someone should tell them how to say the word before recording
(Tie) eggs it's pronounced like that
Tiegs, not thayegs.
Wheres the Fallout videos?
Thaig is pronounced like "tiger"
the male voice actor pronounces orgrimmar wrong. super annoying. a reminder that the voice actor dont know much about the world that he is narrating
This isn't warcraft!
It's Ozaramar!
Get outta here, orc!
You're mixing up World of Warcraft with Dragon Age. -He didn't pronounce it wrong.- Orzammar is DA:O. Orgrimmar is WoW.
Mystogan Edolas Orzammar*
Fuckin idiot, corrects others and can't even write it properly.
Ezequiel Morales
I'm a drunk dyslextic, from a nation that dosn't have English as it's primary language (like most people....English part) so I have a pretty good excuse. (I'm fully aware of the errors in this respons I just don't give a fuck.)
UH so much mispronunciation!
Twenty-Something Nerd Thanks for the info.
there ty-ags
I would rather have voice actors that know what they're talking about then have voice actors that have an accent making them seem "smarter" Seriously.
So wait, can anybody tell me why dwarves can't use magic?
I can't unhear their pronounciation of Thaigs, it's a silent H dammit!
Probably should mention that the gameplay footage used is from Dragon Age Origins.. and not the new game that looks a billion times better coming out next month.
its pronounced "Tiges" the "H" is silent.
Hły hły Ashe Soriano. Ashe :)
"thayg" "ozrammar"
it's pronounced Tieg and Orzammar
if you're going to make lore videos about a series, at least take the time to pronounce things right
get your head out your arse, dont see your lore videos ?
What a poor way to compare me to the video publisher. I don't give a shit about who creates a lore video, but don't make one if you don't do your research.
+CQB Bot it's fucking pronunciation you picky fuck lmao so pathetic
+Bryan Sanchez It does have a correct one to be fair.
She *almost* gets Orzammar right at 1:51
theygs
The awkward moment when the narrators cannot pronounce Thaig or Orzammar properly.
