I’m an avid nutrition reader and “researcher”, so when I go to my doctor and want to talk about something I feel like I have control over, nutrition, but I quickly realize that I know more than the MD….frustrating that our medical community is “Sick Care”, not “Health Care”‼️
Another amazing guest, Dr Ashley, when it comes to physicians I believe one of the biggest problems we face as patients is we have to understand that most of our doctors, especially in large medical corporations, treat us from a script. They are always talking to us from behind a screen that walks them thru all the steps and meds that they are encouraged to prescribe. Going off script is the quickest way to get in trouble. I love my doctor , he is really a great guy but he doesn’t give the advice he should nutritionally speaking , that he should. I received a less than optimal blood test a few months ago and I have had to make some drastic changes. He told me to reduce my carbs but that was it. I researched this issue a lot and have made many positive changes, I see good results but I need to keep going. My mantra is up my protein! Thanks for being out there, sure wish you had a presence in California. But I keep watching your You Tube channel and just started listening to your podcasts at work. That gives me a lot of encouragement 😊
Awesome video. I have been keto for the last 12 years. Very lean and workout 7 days a week. I have tried to help so many people explaining this to people. Most want to argue saying I will die young. I love videos like this. I no longer explain anything, I just send them these videos. It appears people just won’t do anything unless in comes from a dr. Which is typically smart, just not with nutrition in my opinion. Keep the videos coming!
Dr Seeman is very good, the first time I watched her is when she interviewed Dr Jaquish with the x3 resistance band training . I bought one when I quit the gym and it really works building muscles, faster the weight gym . The victoza is what made me stop and go because of energy. I can’t wait too start back my X3.
I would be curious to see a compilations of all the health gurus and their diets who have lived to be older than 80 years old. As far as I can tell most cultures that live a long life tend to eat a diet consisting of all the food groups with no emphasis on either just all whole foods.
Great listen! Very informative. Can you possibly do a podcast about PHD versus Carnivore versus Keto the differences, advantages and disadvantages? Thanks! I love these weekly informative videos!
Great information, by eating less than 20 grams total carbs a day I have lost 125lbs at 56 years old. Started strength training 6 weeks into this lifestyle and managed to add muscle while dropping the weight. Made sure I got my protein and fats as discussed in video. Stayed incredibly consistent and didnt let weight loss stalls deter me. Just kept grinding. Strategic intermittent fasting also very helpful.
@16:00. She stated that protein has more calories per gram. I've been taught that both protein and carbohydrates has 4 calories per gram while fat has 9 calories per gram.
If someone wants to study nutrition, but doesn't want to have to learn all the wrong things, are there on-line classes to take to learn what you teach? I enjoyed listening to this episode. I like that you bring in people from outside of PHD, just to get a different perspective, or some new recipe ideas, or new protein bar ideas.
I went through the Primal Health curriculum. It's all the right stuff. I believe Dr Seeman is part of that program as well but I can't remember. It was started by Mark Sisson. Its excellent
This is a great questions- Yes @leighbayouth3209 I love the Primal Health curriculum. My episode with Mark Sisson will be dropping shortly so make sure you watch that one. You can start with great books: Primal Blueprint, Forever strong, Lies my doctor told me, The big fat surprise. And keep tuning in here!
Dr Seeman says that if you are going to skip a meal it should be dinner. For myself, I find that it is much easier to skip breakfast because I am never hungry then. So what am I missing or not understanding?
Loved this! Please tell me where to get the chocolate collagen you spoke of in this episode. Thank you, Dr Ashley, for ALL the information in these podcasts. I can't get enough 😊
Really helpful info! I am mostly carnivore, with little veg. Recently i had a strength trainer mention that eventually i will need to incorporate veg and grains. I am going to stay the course!
I'm 140 lbs I'm trying to lose 5 lbs.I've been trying to keep daily protein consumption at 130 gm per day with difficulty becouse I feel full at about 90 's gm of protein. I'm active and preserving muscle mass is a priority. .
Maybe try adding some collagen into your beverages or starting with a protein shake? Perhaps slow increase up to 120grams a day and staying there for a while could be a good way to progress.
I don't know that those that are anorexic also had insulin resistant. I do think that overweight people are actually nutrient deficient. if protein satiates people and overweight people overeat, perhaps overweight people don't eat enough protein. And yes, protein does reduce hunger in those that are overweight. When I was a little kid in the late 1960s, the diets that most nutritionist suggested was a high protein diet. Dr Ashley, you find the most amazing guests to interview.
I had a partial hysterectomy in my 30’s. I went into estrogen dominance in my 50’s, was put on hormone therapy and then developed breast cancer. I was taken off all hormones. Now I have to worry about dying a decade sooner?
There are a number of variables with longevity. Optimizing hormones is just part of the picture. For more hormone discussions check out Dr Doug Lucas on TH-cam. I hope you find help and support in this area!
How long should one do resistance training per session? She mentioned bands or their own weight as weight training but didn’t mention the session length. Thank you
Doctors talk about not getting education on nutrition but wouldn’t you think that they would, on their own, take some course study so that they would be more creditable when they’re telling especially telling patients to lose weight??
Between the both of you, with your respective backgrounds, do either one of you have any insite on what would cause a seemingly healthy 22y Female to have premature ovarian failure?
I bet Dr. Seeman would have great answers to this. It's out of my scope. She is super active on social media. Look up @doctorfitandfabulous to find her and DM her. Best of luck to you!
It can be hard for sure, especially at the beginning. Always think "protein first" or else it will be difficult to get it in. Sometimes protein shakes and Greek yogurt can help folks sneak it all in.
Instead of listening to doctors who don't get nutrition training, and dont understand it, its better to listen to nutritionists who do get nutrition training and understand it een less...
That was a really good interview on a wide variety of metabolic health topics: diet, strength training, menopause and..kids (I'm over this now). These are all critical topics. The standard advice from medical and gov't departments is just abysmal. I'm from Canada and it is not any better than the US, Thank you.

Would be interesting to see without biased science, wouldn't it?!
There's a show on Netflix called The Blue Zones.
@@angelidonatone3703 Thanks I've seen this. Unfortunately it's not totally accurate. The key is whole foods without pesticides.
Great listen! Very informative.

I sure can! Appreciate your feedback!

Awesome! Congratulations! Love your discipline. Thanks for commenting here!
Love this comment and congrats! At 53 I have had similar results..stay the course right??!
Dr.s Shawn Baker, Anthony Chaffee and Ken Berry as well as Dr. Bright are great resources on youtube.
Yes they are!
Really?
@@drashleylucasBerry got his medical license. Should have been pulled years ago.
I did not know older folks need more protein! Thanks for the info! 😊
Yes! You are so welcome, thank you for watching! :)
Super helpful Dr. Ashley! Great information and encouraging pep talk to realign and recommit to good nutrition. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching!
So good!!! Thanks for ALL of the education! I'm learning so much.
You're welcome Jerdone! Thanks for tuning in!
@16:00. She stated that protein has more calories per gram. I've been taught that both protein and carbohydrates has 4 calories per gram while fat has 9 calories per gram.
This is correct!
I was just listening; I think she said 'four' not 'more' calories per gram

Everyone is different! If that works for you, no problem. Skipping breakfast works best for me as well. Cheers!

So glad! Vital Proteins is my favorite brand right now. Hope you enjoy as much as I do!

Stay the course! No need for reintroduction of grains...
Thanks so much for sharing about how important HRT is! 😀

Wow - great show! I have my initial PHD Weight Loss consultation on Tuesday and I am excited to embark on this journey!
Woohoo! I'm excited and hope it goes well for you!

Very good information. You don't need your doctor's permission to eat certain foods.

Sure! A good session would probably take about 45 minutes.
What about high cholesterol with animal protein diet?
An animal protein diet does not cause high cholesterol. No worries there.
What about HRT if you had complete hysterectomy due to ovarian cancer?
We highly suggest looking into this; check out Dr. Doug Lucas' episode on this th-cam.com/video/9N2nWC8n4c8/w-d-xo.html

Many just don't have the time, interest, or curiosity. I like where your head is at though and agree with you!
Yup..extremely frustrating when you go to your doctor, ask a question about nutrition, and realize you know more than the MD taking your money🧐
Great episode
Thank you! Glad you liked it.
Really great info!
Glad it was helpful!
hard boiled eggs are a legit superfood. Most people would greatly benefit from 6 eggs per day.
They are great!

Once again great information. I still have a hard time getting 145g of protein a day.
It can be hard for sure, especially at the beginning. Always think "protein first" or else it will be difficult to get it in. Sometimes protein shakes and Greek yogurt can help folks sneak it all in.
Ok. Thank you. Good advice.
13:40 mark > Is Dr. Seeman intimating that "handpicking your buckwheat & quinoa" make them perfectly fine to consume on a regular basis? 🤔
Although these options may be more nutrient dense, buckwheat and quinoa are still grains that want to be monitored just like grains like bread.
