The Big Bad Wolf was dubbed by the brazilian Wagner Moura, very famous and a great actor. Im also from Brazil. Olá.

I adore the fact that the moment everyone hears his backstory, they agree that the universe was right to give Perrito an easy path to the wish.
The thing is, if you ***really*** thing about how the wish map thing works.
It is constantly trying to guide you to not want your wish, because you don't need it. Perrito didn't want a wish... And the map was subtly doing something quite evil in response... Think about what each of his "obstacles" really mean? Pockets full of Posies is "Ring around the rosies, pockets full of posies, ashes ashes we all fall down!" is a story about THE BLACK PLAGUE and being cremated to prevent the spread. The River of Relaxation is a metaphor for the River Styx, the river in greek mythology that runs into Tartarus and carries yoy after you die, and also ties into his backstory of being thrown into the river. And the most dastardly of them all, which we didnt get to see "The field of quick and easy solutions" would have almost certainly been the star trying to convince him to commit *suicide* "take the easy way out"
And the star does all of this to prevent people from using its wish.

Death’s hatred to Puss is valid, imagine collecting souls for a living and some arrogant “fearless hero” cheats you everytime because of biology. I’d like to think Death is actually very gentle and kind to good souls, but can’t stand Puss because he wasted his chances. Death has most likely come across souls who deserved more lives, he hates that Puss isn’t grateful for what others would do anything to have: more chances.
exactly. He hates puss, he's angry, its not just some job. And now I feel sad at all the other good souls that he must've met that begged to live but can't, meanwhile there's puss wasting his chances until Death just snapped and started hunting.
Imagine Shrek 5 comes out: the villain is defeated, but instead of a traditional animated movie villain death, we just hear the whistle of Death before it transitions to the next scene

That’s unfitting. It would ruin the movie. Have death not be in the movie at all except for maybe a cameo. There is no reason to use a death. One of the key factors that made death such a good character is being mysterious. You never knew when he appeared because he had a relatively low amount of screen time. Reusing the same character just because people like it doesn’t make it any better.

"The Big Bad Wolf" (Death) really stole the spotlight whenever he appears on the screen. I'm really impressed DreamWorks was able to bring that sense of fear. His whistling and animation of the looming darkness just sells it even more. Gave me chills. One of DreamWorks best villains (and probably the best) by far.
As for the film itself, it's without a doubt the best animated film I've seen in years. The animation is very reminiscent to Into the Spider-Verse and it works surprisingly well and allows for many beautiful images. If Kung Fu Panda 4 or the inevitable Shrek 5 has this same style, that would be awesome! I initially wasn't sure if a return to the Shrek world would work after more than a decade away from it, but after seeing this, I say bring on the return of Shrek!
I love how serious all the scenes he is in are, they were not playing around with his character.
I think it’s more accurate to describe him as “The big bad wolf” as he isn’t the one from the story. Cool marketing subversion tho

When Goldie gets the map, you'll notice everyone is in there EXCEPT death. Little details like that are worth a second viewing and definitely the last ten years in development.
Actually, that scene is even more genius than that. If you take a closer look in that scene, the whole background of the map roughly outlines the face of a wolf, looking at the viewer menacingly: the two hills of the Nostalgic Pines area represented in the map are the eyes, the path where Goldilock and the three bears are represented is the muzzle, and there is even a rock at the bottom roughly outlining whistling lips.
These two or three seconds are pure genius: this means that no matter where you go, Death is everywhere, you can't escape it.
Also every character gets a wanted poster for their presentation except death, for logical reasons.
@@vancesirron9170 That's actually a very good point. You don't notice it on first view because Death Wolf shows up before Jack Horner and Goldie.
@@PhunkieZero I mean, Puss and his other 2 allies get one too, and Puss' one gets shown the first 5 minutes, so it's foreshadowed even in the first viewing.

I just realized yesterday that Jack Horner doesn't get the map until the very end. He never had to overcome his own trials. Jack just let Team Friendship and the Goldi crime family do all the work.
When the map customizes each person’s path to the wish, there’s an element of “character judgement” in there. “It knows your heart”. Even two of our main good guys were immediately presented with extreme danger in their first obstacles. It’s my theory that if Jack Horner got ahold of the map, the forest would immediately become uninhabitable and everyone would die.
@@jakobr_ The paths are actually the way that the map/star tells characters that they either don't deserve the wish, the wish has bad consequences, or telling them that they already have what they need.
Puss has a path of fire, which is very painful. It's probably a symbol of how he will be immortal, but he can still feel pain, and if he is too careless with his lives, he can still experience the pain.
Puss also has a valley which probably contains coffins that maybe have illusions of other characters, meaning that he will outlive them, or while wasting his lives being a hero, they will miss him, and eventually die.
The cave of souls is self explanatory, his previous lives were cocky bastards who only lived for the fame, if puss had infinite lives, he'd be more like them.
@@jakobr_ it also could represent how they feel about their own path and their fears. Puss is afraid of death, hence his path looks like hell. Kitty is alone and has nobody to trust, so her path reflect that. Perrito’s looks happy, but is actually quite dark, just as how he perceives bad events as positive. Goldie’s was about showing her that she truly loves her family and she’s a part of it, even tho she doesn’t realize it.

When Puss finally stands up to Death and doesn't back down the Wolf vents in frustration, "Por qué diablos fui a jugar con mi comida?" In case you don't want to wait until you learn Spanish again, "Why the hell did I go play with my food?"
You'll be happy to know that it at least got a Annie nomination, which is the oscar for animations. Wagner Moura, voice of death, was nominated, don't know if it got a nomination for best animated movie, but I feel like it should lol It will be a tough battle tho, it's going against Guillermo's Pinnochio.
I was wondering how Wagner Moura's accent is, since he's Brazilian?

You are not missing a step. For the past few years dreamworks always had become Disney's shadow. But if you look at their shows compared to disney. Like shrek, how to train your dragon, megamind, kungfu panda, madagascar i mean they've produced a dozen masterpieces already. Its not surprising that this studio can make another one like puss in boots

DreamWorks really doesn't get enough credit for their amazing animated movies. they've always been overshadowed by Disney, & sure Disney's great (at least the old Disney was), but DreamWorks has just released masterpieces consistently. It is also fascinating how they change the P to a K in german, because instead of Puss it is called Kater there. Like after the Giant fight or on the grave. They really went all out on the localizations :D
Btw - When Death cut him on the forehead at the beginning of the movie, that was actually the first time in his entire life he was cut with a blade, never before did anyone best him in combat - that is one of the reasons he was so afraid and had a panic and anxiety attack.
The crazy thing about this is that you actually see death in the back of the crowd when he is fighting the titan. The doctor barber guy says that death walks among us and finally, his first encounter with the wolf, he says that he's been following him around for a long time. It literately forshadowed this entire event since his first encounter with the wolf based off these things alone.

I just saw this in my local theater. During that first battle with death, I just sat there and couldn’t hold back a „holy shit wow“. While two kids somewhere behind me started to cry with fear of this wolf lol
tbh I was just like you & those two kids crying lol I didn't cry but I was pretty scared but also amazed by Death
The wolf was:
1) introduced immediately following the prospect of death being shoved at Puss by the doctor
2) appeared out of nowhere
3) emphasized "dead" on the wanted poster
4) says he's been "following Puss for a long time"
5) says "everyone thinks they'll be the one to defeat me, but no one has"
6) put gold coins over his eyes while watching Puss ride away in the wagon
7) never showed up on the map
There was a *lot* of allusion to the wolf's identity, so while the revelation wasn't "shocking" (for me), that made it no less good, as it was shocking for *Puss*, as he had never considered the possibility before. I loved how consistent the wolf was throughout the movie and on rewatches. It's not some Frozen situation where the character completely changes in order for a twist reveal. The revelation was always there, the question was merely "when would it come for Puss".

Yes, the movie was very much like that for me. Was it all a surprise? Nah, it’s got a pretty simple through line, but the characters and art make it so so so so so good.
Not a villain, an antagonist. Calling him a villain makes him sound evil, but they was more Big Jack. He was evil for the sake of being evil, THATS villainous. An antagonist opposes the protagonist. He causes conflict with the main character. Which Death definitely did!
Death is an antagonist AND a villain because Puss mocks the very lives he had and Death got offended by it and wants to take Puss's last life for it.
"So, why don't I do us both a favor and take this last one now."
"That's cheating."
"Shh, don't tell."
So he's identified as a villian because he's deciding that just this once he's going to break his own rules and speed up the process when he isnt supposed to, just to kill someone he doesn't like, right?

@@AssassinhunterA8 Yes. Death is supposed to be a natural cause. The time for Puss to die isn't supposed to come yet but he's taking matters into his own hands and want him dead now just cause he hurts his feelings which makes him evil.
@@devilseyecry I don't think it's just about Death's feelings, but rather the concept of life and death and the ideals present within them. Puss didn't appreciate any of the lives he lived, yet he always got another chance when he died. Having nine lives in itself is already a perversion of nature, but then not even appreciating life and mocking death? One could argue that being insulted by that and taking matters in his own hands may be arrogant and "evil", but at the same time... the guy is literally death. I don't think stuff like morality concerns him in the way it does for mortals, which you can see when he decides to allow Puss to live his last life in the end.

He is a force of nature, he should be beyond that. But he's salty about Puss laugh at the face of death and wasted his life and wanted to kill him early. That is exactly why he is called a villain.

Everyone only talks about death but puss himself is amazing in this film and the action scenes are truly epic and even the music

he's the cherry on top. that's why. he make a great movie a masterpiece. come on. everything else works as well as it does because he's there. you can't gloss over that.
Props to everyone involved in the production of this movie; I was very pleasantly surprised by how good it is.
Did y’all know that the bar wasn’t the first area we saw death? During a scene when Puss n boots is being cheered by everyone we can see in one part he is hidden in the shadows, Awesome detail that the developers put in there.

Death is seriously up there with Pitch Black as the best DreamWorks villain. The fact they had death as a wolf as well? Absolutely fantastic.

I don't thinking of death as the villain but rather a wake up call for puss, a natural force of nature that everyone meets. And when he's tracking puss, he does so because he's down to his last life, and because he was so careless before and made a mockery of death. Death wanted to get even or rather settle the score with puss, knowing he couldn't touch him until now. It's a part of deaths force of nature that brings him forth.

NGL, this Puss in Boots sequel is one of the best I’ve seen from Dreamworks. Yet, another sequel film that did great! I love the story, the comedy, the character (the Wolf/Death is the best imo), the music, and stylized animation. Imo, best animated film of 2022!

Yes!! I love this movie so much and I have to agree with you; it's definitely one of the best animated movies made since "Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse"! Everything, from the animation, to the story, and all of the important characters, were just great and innovative. Thank you for your fun reaction to this wonderful gem of a movie! I hope we see more creative movies like this!

OR “Why the the hell did I (go and) play with my food?!” Someone said it was _fui_ instead of _voy,_ and I think they might be right. The f in it is hard to hear if it is.
Thankfully it seems they finally fixed the subtitles (for streaming), to actually have the words instead of just (speaking Spanish/Spanish dialogue). It is in fact “¡¿Por que diablos fui a jugar con mi comida?!

@@jonmercano1138 Hi so I'm a spanish person (Kinda I guess) and he says "¿¡Por que diablos voy a jugar con mi comida!?" And that translates to "Why the hell am I going to play with my food!?" But tbh I think they tried to say "Why the hell have I been playing with my food!?" OR "Why the hell do I play with my food!?". Probably just a little mistake on translating, it's kinda hard anyways lols.

Jack Horner's in no fairy tale. You don't remember the nursey rhyme, Little Jack Horner?! We sang it in pre-school and kindergarten:

Which makes it funnier when see that he's a big, fat evil dude, LITERALLY.
Death doesn't seem like a "villain" but instead a constant. He just does what he's meant to, and that hunts down those who didn't appreciate life. He's not doing anything wrong, Puss is a person who's done illegal things many times. Death is hunting down someone at the end of his rope, and when he decides to live his life, Death backs off. He acknowledges that they will meet again, but not now. When Puss's time has come, he'll collect his debt.
The movie hints at the Wolf being Death sooner in the movie, at 4:01 the corners of the death counter are decals of the Wolf and his scythes. When the death counters were shown in the movie trailers, the decals were different. Don't want to give away too much!

If death got his own at least movie or at least short special I watch it no questions asked.
Fun fact! You can see Death in the crowd at the VERY start of the movie before his first official on screen appearance. RIGHT before Puss’s 8th life ends. Why? Death appears when death is imminent, its why everyone else can only see him when theyre on the star, meaning everyone there was close to death depending on how things played out. Until that point at the end of the movie, nobody else saw him or heard his whistle.
On that note theres a well liked fan theory like Perrito represents life, and the joy of living despite misfortune.
My take on Wolf:
The ferocity of Tai Lung
The cool head of Shen
The tenacity of Kai
He is the powers combined of every Kung Fu Panda villain.
I like to think wolf Death I'd literally just Spanish Anubis especially because of his weapons , which works because Cats and Egypt
is like 🤞and Anibus being a Dog
One thing I love about the opening to this movie is how it sets up just how capable Puss actually is. He took on a whole squad of guards and a freaking giant without even breaking a sweat, and then, shortly after that, the Big Bad Wolf shows up and instantly disarms him, and what's more, actually manages to hurt Puss. That is how you do a villain entrance properly and set up just how strong and scary they are.
Good to know I am not the only one who got tingles of something *other than fear* at that damn wolf lmfao

Interesting facts about the movie. Each time a person touch the map, you can see things related with the character of that person (Perrito with hapiness, Puss with things related to death, and Kitty with things related to Loneliness). Also, before the ring kills Puss, the ring bells 8 times. Also in the scene you can find the wolf amoung the crowd! Also, the bar where Puss meet Wolf has 8 candle, the same number of candles that turned off in the streets... It a movie full of passion by his creators!
Reminds me of a lot of Edgar wright films where upon second, third, fourth viewing you get to find more find details & easter eggs. Scott pilgrim is full of em

DreamWorks and Universal pushed this to paid VOD even with this being in theaters so quickly (imo). Glad that we're getting a lot of reactions about this film.
We’re also getting a lot of blocked reactions because of the paid VOD being pushed so quickly while this still being in theaters so fingers crossed this makes it out unscathed because I’ve seen reactors having problems with copyright with this particular movie commentary reactions.

Perrito got put in a sock with rocks in it and thrown into a river like no wonder why his path for the wish thing is so colorful- bro deserves it😭
This is one of very few movies I've seen where the character 'twist' is obvious from the start without changing how enjoyable it is when the characters realise who the wolf really is. The anticipation waiting for the moment Puss would figure it out was what made the movie fun for me (as well as the adorable dog)
You know what would be interesting? If Death would from now on just show up out of nowhere whenever Puss in Boots has a close to death experience.
Him only scared and careful and not cocky when he is down to his last life.
On the midas touch thing- the sister DID cross Jack, she was being obnoxious and annoying the whole time as jack wanted to move on, and her sister kept nudging her, and then SHE touched the hand herself, and then Jack lets the other sister go free, I think this was just him letting the idiot screw herself over because of how annoying she was, heck Her own sister doesn't really protest.
So petty and evil, but in the sense of a bond villian's minon screwing something up or pressing one of his boss' buttons and then getting off, rather than being entirely pointless.
"Squeeze the jelly from your eyes, actually its quite good on toast" had me dying

Just imagine this: Puss is old. He has grey hair, a grey beard. He managed to become a grandpa. His grandchildren are playing in the garden, he can hear their laughter. He is lying in bed, too old to do much, can't really get up, and his multiple sons and daughters help him with everyday actions. This is a sunny morning. The birds are chirping. His family are laughing happily. Someone is singing a song, somewhere in the house. His wife is baking some cookies in the kitchen, and the scent is overwhelming the house. Outside, there are multiple voices, games being played, laughter and just everyday conversations. Suddenly, all sound turns silent. Everything just becomes quiet. Puss wonders: "What is going on?" And then he hears, a vaguely familiar whistle... The world becomes dark. Death appears in his room. "We meet again." Puss smiles. Scene cuts to black.
The wolf is an awesome villain he is scary he is like the grim reaper.

Wow I reached the part where wolf says he is death like see the grim reaper wolf he is always able to appear where puss is.
I love Death’s design! Sickle’s that look similar to the grim reaper’s scythe especially when attached together as a staff.. (also you have the pun sick in there and you know.. sickness can lead to death :P)
He has the hood like the reaper.. he is a dire wolf which one, dogs vs cats… and secondly, another pun! He is death and a DIE’r wolf! 😉
I was very impressed by his design from the start and that is actually how I figured out he was the grim reaper from early on.
I still have no idea where Jack Horner comes from, but he's the best "for the evulz" villain to come out in a very long time!
I love that Death has less than six minutes of screen time, yet is the character that most people remember

I did not know that. What I did know was it was in a minor key with Death whistling in a major key after he lost the thrill of taking Puss' last life.

They need a really good reason to bring back Death. Having him appear willy nilly will just be an insult to the character and the very concept of death.
Death in this movie was the incarnation of Puss's fears and regrets when he has to look back at his past lives. You can't run from yourself because no matter where you go there you are. He finally has to face that part of himself to overcome it and grow.
Him: Dogs are the best animal.
Me: how dare you?
Puss: how dare you?!
Death is the greatest villain ever in a Disney film. Its like watching a horror movie when Death arrives.

This movie had no right to be THIS GOOD! It's a sequel to a 10 y.o. spin-off of Shrek. Like come on... It should have been mediocre at most.
Everyone expected it to be Ass and yet DreamWorks, out of nowhere, made it one of their best animated movies ever, if not one of the best animated movies of all time, period.
It isn't perfect (it's not Prince of Egypt after all), but holly frijoles! Damn this movie goes HARD! The characters are fantastic, the action is beautiful and so well choreographed (during the final fight with Death each clash of their weapons is in sync with the music), the overall art style is PHENOMENAL (I love what Spiderverse did to animated movies)!
And most importantly the story is so well thought out and tackles such delicate topics as: realizing your own mortality, the anxiety that causes and overcoming that anxiety; finding meaning in life; found family; dealing with trauma; and many others. And it approaches these topics in an intelligent, compelling way that doesn't play an anxiety attack for a cheap laugh and instead treats it 100% serious and uses it as a major event for character development and plot progression. Imagine how much weaker it'd be if Dream Works pulled a "Shawarma" on us...
Don't get me wrong I understand why people would call death a villain but really he is more of a force of nature like galactus
