Just finished this project on my car! This video was super helpful. I know their hood was aluminum but mine was steel and was harder to cut through so I think my experience was a little different. Some things I would add for anyone doing this on a steel hood/bonnet: 1. I was getting a lot of smoke, dust, and fumes (fumes from the self-etching primer that was under the hood) so invest in a good mask and have a fan running. 2. I went through a number of the metal cutting wheels so buy extras. Also, when the metal cutting wheels start to get small from being worn down, set them aside to use on the tight angles later. 3. Needle nose pliers were helpful. 4. I went through an entire grinding stone between both holes. 5. It was hard to keep the Dremel from skipping even though I was expecting it. I ended up with half a dozen nicks on my hood but I was repainting it anyway. 6. I found the plate that goes underneath to hold it together to be a pain in the ass (hard to explain) so I just used the nuts and washers that came with it. Cheers.
Just in addition to this, because the whole section is being cut out, you don't need "clean" holes. It was simply used as a locator but yes slower is better - thats why we like Hondas - LOL
Things usually have to get worse before they get better if you're not doing it all at once. I'm sure once it all comes together it will look sick. I made a stupid post in the other video, giving him shit about the mods, but then I rewatched the japan drifting movie thing, and I forgot that modifying your car is about what you want to do to it. It's your money and your car, and TBH I'm thankful as hell that moog isn't stancing his s2000. I really look forward to the finished product, and I appreciate all the amazing free content these guys give us.
Yeah stancing is the worst thing anyone can do to a car. I hate how some of the car community will hate on Moogs fully functional track-ready S2000 and then say how stanced/slammed Skylines and STIs are so awesome and great. It ruins the driveability of a great race car!
Every other comment is about the bonnet, rust, and corrosion. So to end that let's explain it plain and simple so that everyone understands. *The bonnet is made out of aluminium so it won't rust.* Any metal that got iron in it will rust if left exposed. Aluminium doesn't have any iron in it so it won't rust. Untreated aluminium has good corrosion resistance in most environments because it forms a thin oxide layer that prevents further oxidation. So there's no panic or real reason to paint the exposed aluminium.
I'm not one to comment on videos much but with all this hate, something has to be said. To some people, yes the front bar looks ricer and the bonnet pins might look a little plastic, but honestly these guys dont just do these mods to please the crowds. I have a sneaking suspicion that they also do these mods because it's what they want to do to their cars. They have their own personal preferences you know. I honestly just like the fact that I can watch these two mod their cars because it gives me ideas on what I can to do to my own car.
Actually instead of a race track mod, this can be used as a good theft deterrent if you install hood latches with locks. I find this useful in zones where the thefts use to steal stuff under your hood, like the batteries. Great DIY video, keep up the good work MCM!
Tbh if he doesn't put in a turbo and Intercooler its ricey, like 100% ricey, full respect to mcm but I see no point of putting on the bumper apart from making it look "cool" (but actually it's gonna be rice)
It won't rust. We stripped all the paint off the bonnet of our MK3 Golf then covered it in sea salt and water and left it outside and even then we couldn't get it to rust. But if you're cutting something thats not aluminium then yes, always paint the exposed metal (like when cutting parts in the engine bay etc) th-cam.com/video/s7Iv42AOZIk/w-d-xo.html
Mitchell Cook ^^ Take note everyone - this is how you 'TH-cam Comment' - a meaningful conversation where we can all learn something. 10/10. And mitchells point is 100% valid - paint any exposed metal if you've cut something!
Obsidian762 Yea, I thought of that too after the second time I watched the video, when he was using the abrasive wheel to get it down to finished size.
Awesome thanks guys this video really helped out this weekend with my install !!! The carbon fiber hood costs just over $3000 USD so it was like cutting a whole MK4 gti apart value wise. Love your videos been a fan for years. I did have a few things I learned along the way took me about 7 hours. I had to remove the headlights and chop the pins down a bit to make everything work right but everything worked out in the end just took some extra time. I thank you and my BMW now looks a heck of a lot better with a hood back on it. cant wait to see what you guys have planned next.
Unfortunately, from reading their blog post it sounds like that is not a near or long term plan. "Why don’t you turbo charge it? Marty and I don’t want to make the same videos over and over again. So when people say “turbo charge it”, while this may be a fun car to drive in the real world, we’ve just done a complete turbo conversion on the MX5. If we wanted to get some internet cred, we’d throw on some expensive kit, expensive wheels, an expensive engine conversion, expensive interior then do an expensive turbo conversion. $25,000 later we’d probably get a few favourable comments, and then more comments from people saying we should have left it stock."

I love this build. I feel Moog is doing this stuff because it's what he wants. It'll look good when done. They know how to get street cred. Does anyone remember the video about the VW?
Remove the factory lock and catch, put a set of those and if you leave in my country you will have something missing from the engine bay the next morning :D
@@LilmixPixelmaid That's not true. I've left my MX5 with the top down before and nobody touched it. Hell I don't even lock it lol. I'd honestly they open the doors rather than destroy the roof.

I don't understand all the hate for MCM's S2000. I think Marty and Moog are putting together a sweet car, one that they want. The bumper and hood latches look mad! Little bit of a tip for cutting odd round-ish shapes. For the rounded off areas, find a drill bit that matches the radius of the edge of the shape as close as you can, if not smaller. Find the center and drill a pilot hole, then your "edge hole" and repeat for the your other round corners/edges. Finish off by cutting out the area between your holes and file to perfection! I did this for a custom PC window and it worked out fine. Just be careful and measure your drills and cuts as best you can. Love the show guys, hope your come back to Los Angeles when I get my first car! '06 WRX wagon hopefully ;)
The true, genuine side to the car community is great and they are mostly respectful and happy to talk to people unfortunately the more "hipster mainstream" people think its great to invade that community with overly used jokes and completely misused names where apparently moogs track car is "riced"(and just because its a honda).
To be fair, the updated youtube comments were designed to promote flamewars and trolling (No downvoting, but more comments = higher up) So this comment section is a just a hot pile of shit... It's really easy to insult peoples cars, so of course trolls on youtube do it, but on legit car forums and stuff like that, petty insults tend to be few and far between.
I wish this wasn't true but sadly in the comments section it is. What I can say, is that after travelling to places all over the world and meeting tens of thousands of car enthusiasts in real life who actually own, drive and modify their cars, it's quite the opposite. People who actually work on cars and know what goes into it are always overwhelmingly supportive. Often those without cars or have never held a spanner are the ones that leave the most critical feedback because they have made better looking and faster cars in Forza. One day when they are old enough hopefully they'll experience the joy and excitement of working on something, no matter what it is or what the internet thinks about it. Anyone who hasn't worked it out yet that cars are a personal journey probably needs to go buy one then turn a spanner on it.
Mighty Car Mods don't ever feel the need to change something on your car just because of a youtube comment guys. the internet seems to bring out the worst in people when it comes to cars, and its good to see that you are still sticking to what you think looks good on your s2k even though so many people here seem to want to change it. its not about what other people think, its about what makes you happy!
good on em i haven't seen so much hate and so much love for a car on this show or anywhere for that matter, but i love how moog doesn't conform to what people believe to be acceptable on a car. yeah, i'd build an s2k a little differently, but it's his car and he can do what he wants with it. that's what modding is about, expressing yourself even if not everyone likes what you do to your car. keep it up guys, it's good to see the show getting back to it's roots! :)
Good to see that it looks like an authentic AeroCatch. My aerocatch's saved my CF hood from being destroyed into many pieces, and despite the hood taking off part of the top of my radiator end tank the aerocatch's kept the hood so tight it actually allowed me to putter to the police station and await a tow truck in my last crash. Meanwhile every counterfeit aerocatch I've ever seen has broken from just opening and closing them :-/. My aerocatch's still work after the crash...
Not many people I know complain about the look of a piece of bread before it's even turned into a sandwich... Or complain to their hairdresser when only half their hair has been cut. We're midway through a build... come back when it's finished (and it's all the same colour!) and then see what you think? You may like it or you may not but at least you'll be judging a finished car...
guys you should have put some sealer underneath the catch or some anit rust treatment, and by the way, loving the honda build guys, cant wait to see the finished project, thanks for entertaining us!
better to put masking tape arround the whole to put some paint on blank grinded metal . otherwise it will start to corrode after some bad weather turns ;) just an idea. or you trade the honda for a real car like a subaru or toyota
Personally I love what you so to your car's there yours at the end of the day and every mod u do makes them your own love the show keep up the great work
***** Hmm lets see here, it's big, it's bulky, probably heavier, eBay style mesh grills, it looks nasty, and he's not even going to turbo it so I don't understand the need of having a bumper with a front mount for an intercooler cut out for. It's rice all around. You're an idiot.
David G Please, shut the fuck up and let Moog modify his car in the way he wants. You're not the one who owns it. Oh, and stop saying "lmfao", please.
Ok, but now, on the places where you have drilled the bonnet, there is some exposed metal and since some water can get there it may start to rust. I don't know but if that bonnet is made out of alloy then I guess its fine. You should have said it the video for all the people who have normal steel bonnets that they should put some kind of primer (is it called that way in english? the first coat you spray for protection from rust).
I literally typed up something saying exactly the same thing, refreshed the page, and then saw your comment. My apologies, I didn't read this before I typed mine. Great minds think alike, I guess.
Bought a pair of these bonnet locks, from e-bay, so when they arrive, will be following your installation guide to the letter, thanks for your video, oh, their for a 1992 holden barina, after our bonnet catch failed and the bonnet said hello to the windscreen, $290 for a new one, and $120 for new bonnet and $35 for 2 x 2nd hand brackets...........
aluminum does not rust you are correct. rust is a term used for corrosion on steel. Aluminum does corrode just like every other metal. Metal corrosion class 101 is complete.
Only time will tell what Moog thinks guys. They said they've set plans for this car, things they haven't experienced before mainly. And if putting on a brand name bumper wasn't in the budget, all well. Once this comes together it'll be the same, properly mad, mcm style we all know and love. Even if it isn't, its his car, his taste, his decisions, and you can't hate on that.
These are great for cf hoods. One note of caution though, for people with bad winters (Canada for example) a little ice will lock the mechanism (from snow melting/freezing or simply rain/freezing). It does get tiresome after a while to have to heat it up to open it. Being in plastic, it's also more fragile in cold so when you operate it at -20deg or less, you need to be extra gentle not to put too much force in opening the latch.
1) They can't get into your engine bay because the factory system is still there 2) If you have a hard core track only car with carbon fibre bonnet it wouldn't be parked on the street anyway 3) If you remove factory system you'd buy the locking version of these catches (as explained in the description)
nightshadow2478 its better to have both latches,I had a austin mini for my first car and I had my grampa put a rover metro sport engine in it, the bonet blew up as i was doing 130 mph down the motorway, nearly killed me
have an awesome day to you and everyone else in the comments i would have thought a slightly bigger piece of cardboard that caught the front end of the hood AND the side would have made positioning both sides symmetrically much easier. the positioning looks perfect how you did it anyway!!!other than that little tidbit, video was brilliant and keep up the amazing work, thanks for your time and content
In all seriousness, an independant throttle body conversion would make an amazing future video. I'm not talking about installing a bolt-on kit because that would defeat the DIY purpose of the show, but maybe getting some old motorcycle throttle bodies and wiring them to a bought manifold, i've seen a few of these conversions done in a DIY fashion. Cheers!
Reading these comments is like why are these people watching MCM ? Just to talk crap ? Well I guess that's why they have a show and these haters do not . This is a great show and they do good work not rice work and they tell you do what you want don't do any thing because of them . Everyone has different taste even Moog and Marty have different taste but it is just a show and for some people it is a very useful show for those at home trying to do different upgrades themselves at home at need videos to show them the basics on how to .
Been watching you guys for what feels like forever. Awesome work and evolution of the show! Please do a "budget" supercharger build on the Honda, similar to the Miata build. It would be interesting to see if there are any OE chargers that can be adapted to fit.... Failing that it would just be awesome to hear that VTEC/charger whine 👍
Love your show guys. You guys have done a lot of engine swaps, turboing, etc. But could you ever do a video on a auto to manual swap for those that are not swapping the motor? That's something I'll have to tackle soon....
To all the people smack talking Moog for his Honda and his bumper and the NOS just relax. This show is all about taking a car and making it your own. Let Moog do what he wants to do!
I love the s2k !!!! I haven't even seen the hole build but It looks MAD !!!! And I don't get why people hate on Hondas and call it "rice" wen Hondas are cool well come to think of it anything from Japan is cool. But keep up the mad work on the Miata chopper moog !!! And nice music by the way.
Love that toothpaste idea, so simple, I can't believe I've never thought of it! The number of times that would have come in useful for knowing where to cut/drill!
ok guys i hope you read this comment. i read the blog about the s2000. here is one that you guys have never done before. i here you on the no turbo for a wile. but this is kinda cheap and i am shur people want to know how to do it. why not install some upgraded cams for the k20 motor. cams and cheap and you can do it and home. i think it would make a good video and it will help out with the NOS two. good luck guys.

Cheers.
Hey guys,
When drilling metal, you actually want the bit to spin much slower. You'll make better, cleaner cuts with a slower turning bit.
depends on the size of the bit, the bigger the bit, the slower.
Isn't the speed more about overheating than clean cuts? You would smooth edges anyway
Krede nah.. it is about the clean cut..
you are right especially with hard steel if you spin the bit too fast you will just dull the bit and heat treat what you are drilling.
Just in addition to this, because the whole section is being cut out, you don't need "clean" holes. It was simply used as a locator but yes slower is better - thats why we like Hondas - LOL
Things usually have to get worse before they get better if you're not doing it all at once. I'm sure once it all comes together it will look sick.

don't ever feel the need to change something on your car just because of a youtube comment guys. the internet seems to bring out the worst in people when it comes to cars, and its good to see that you are still sticking to what you think looks good on your s2k even though so many people here seem to want to change it. its not about what other people think, its about what makes you happy!
honestly, im not sure what is worse..the car community, the japanese fashion (or fashion in general) community, or the comic book community
Mighty Car Mods Moog is really loving the S2K
How many kilowatts does these do? Greetings from Sweden!
good on em
i haven't seen so much hate and so much love for a car on this show or anywhere for that matter, but i love how moog doesn't conform to what people believe to be acceptable on a car. yeah, i'd build an s2k a little differently, but it's his car and he can do what he wants with it. that's what modding is about, expressing yourself even if not everyone likes what you do to your car.
keep it up guys, it's good to see the show getting back to it's roots! :)
Can you please do hydrolic handbrake
this guy knows it
special rear calipers, lines and special hydraulic valve and large handle in car
What a sad day. I am up to date on all your videos now. Keep the camaras rolling. Looking forward to more stuff from you guys.
Won't the bonnet rost if you don't cover the cuts with some paint or other stuff ?
yes it will.
it's probably aluminium.
George Sharp For the american viewers 'aluminium' is 'aloooominum'. Thought I'd clear up any confusion
J Robson go fuck yourself
George Sharp Even then it can oxidize, which can spread under the paint and look very ugly. Aluminium is a base metal.
Been watching yall for years!! Keep up the work :). If only I didn't have to sell my car to help pay for college
The one on the left side of the car looks lower than the other one. Uh-oh
I always like what you guys are doing but if I have to be honest, This looks bad and cheap, The car looked clean before, now it looks plastic
I'm sure they'll clean it up, were only at part one of the build so far..
By clean I meant that there was nothing on the bonnet and the car looked better for me
Not many people I know complain about the look of a piece of bread before it's even turned into a sandwich... Or complain to their hairdresser when only half their hair has been cut. We're midway through a build... come back when it's finished (and it's all the same colour!) and then see what you think? You may like it or you may not but at least you'll be judging a finished car...
Mighty Car Mods amen to that. can't wait to see the rest.
Yeah, at the end it may look maaad and I'm sure it will, I just like the car to be as "clean" as possible
You guys stuffed up my order but I will never stop loving you
No Painting the unpainted /Cut Metal? won't it rust?!
Sudz no it's aluminum
alum
guys you should have put some sealer underneath the catch or some anit rust treatment, and by the way, loving the honda build guys, cant wait to see the finished project, thanks for entertaining us!
better to put masking tape arround the whole to put some paint on blank grinded metal . otherwise it will start to corrode after some bad weather turns ;) just an idea. or you trade the honda for a real car like a subaru or toyota
Yep... I thought no one else had seen that now it's just a matter of time till the bonnet rusts, if they don't paint where it was cut.
It's aluminium...
martin h. no it's not..
martin h. It is probably some type of alloy with iron in it, I bet it will rust.
It might be an indication that the car could possibly be getting resprayed in the near future, just throwing the idea out there...
Personally I love what you so to your car's there yours at the end of the day and every mod u do makes them your own love the show keep up the great work
i think that Moog don't like his Honda, with all the shit he's putting on it
If he didn't like it he wouldn't put it on there or he would take it off
can't wait for the sideskirts and a new rearbumper + a cool looking rearwing, starts looking like a real car now.
***** if you don't like it stop watching..
i swear to god they are not properly aligned
No they re not.
camera angles?
So glad you guys use the s2000 as the project car, In stead of the miata
Moog that bumper is little too much rice not enough class.
*****
because you're a ricer. lmfao.
***** Nobody said it's because it's unpainted, lmfao.
*****
Hmm lets see here, it's big, it's bulky, probably heavier, eBay style mesh grills, it looks nasty, and he's not even going to turbo it so I don't understand the need of having a bumper with a front mount for an intercooler cut out for. It's rice all around. You're an idiot.
David G Please, shut the fuck up and let Moog modify his car in the way he wants. You're not the one who owns it. Oh, and stop saying "lmfao", please.
BUSGNAPPO
Tells me I don't own moogs car, then proceeds to tell me what not to say in my comments. Fuck having logic.
to soon to judge, but pretty sure this project is gonna be mad! awesome video guys
Turner Pendergrass Hahaha, I agree.
alluminum doesn't rust
cartouchator Thats what I said:>> "I don't know but if that bonnet is made out of alloy then I guess its fine."
cartouchator Aluminium won't rust but it will start to corrode
Bought a pair of these bonnet locks, from e-bay, so when they arrive, will be following your installation guide to the letter, thanks for your video, oh, their for a 1992 holden barina, after our bonnet catch failed and the bonnet said hello to the windscreen, $290 for a new one, and $120 for new bonnet and $35 for 2 x 2nd hand brackets...........
No primer over the exposed bare metal? A little rubber strip around it won't protect it from rusting.
That's what I was thinking too. At least put a little primer on with some q-tips
ty_ger it's actually an aluminum hood, so it doesn't need primer/paint. typically yes, you are 100% correct when working with a corrosive metal
DeathMetalFunZone So, aluminum doesn't corrode? Are you serious?
+ty_ger aluminum makes a layer of oxidation called aluminum oxide that prevents it from rust
aluminum does not rust you are correct. rust is a term used for corrosion on steel.
And now a car thief has easy access to your engine bay to jump your car! get lockable pins!!
They didnt remove the factory latch so you still have to unlock it
These are great for cf hoods.
Now thiefs can get in your engine bay, congrats
No they can't, he didn't remove the factory latch system.
1) They can't get into your engine bay because the factory system is still there
2) If you have a hard core track only car with carbon fibre bonnet it wouldn't be parked on the street anyway
3) If you remove factory system you'd buy the locking version of these catches (as explained in the description)
well good thing it's in a garage.
Mighty Car Mods
Moog can you please go on facebook and join my group
called HONDA BAYS
It's over 60k members.
nightshadow2478 its better to have both latches,I had a austin mini for my first car and I had my grampa put a rover metro sport engine in it, the bonet blew up as i was doing 130 mph down the motorway, nearly killed me
have an awesome day to you and everyone else in the comments
i would have thought a slightly bigger piece of cardboard that caught the front end of the hood AND the side would have made positioning both sides symmetrically much easier.
the positioning looks perfect how you did it anyway!!!other than that little tidbit, video was brilliant and keep up the amazing work, thanks for your time and content
Rice. Rice everywhere. Big nos sticker on the dash. This car makes me sick
Honestly I think all that car needed was rims, a supercharger kit, some decent brakes and suspension setup.
You most probably have never seen the episode when this S2k is genuinely equip with NOS.
then fuck off. dont watch and dont comment.
Lucky it's not your car! Shut up idiot
The NOS sticker is required so people know it has NOS installed incase of a fire or crash so they know to make extra precautions
Cheers!
they look a little like they're uneven. they look good other than that. LOVE YOUR WORK GUYS!
I love u guys channel just seems like u don't upload that often but still keep up the good work can't wait to hear that s2000 with exhaust!
I don't care what anyone says!! That aftermarket front bumper is sick!! :D!
Thank God.... Another episode came,i died waiting...Thanks Mcm we love your videos
Amazing video, you guys never fail to inspire me!
I feel like you guys are killing this S2K...
I think that the S2K is the coolest mcm build ever.
Great old school diy. Well done boys
nice video guys, as always! quick question, whats the name of that song starts at 8:20
I can see some full track mods coming soon. Roll cage, engine fire extinguisher, bodykit and tons more.
Awesome video guys I can't wait to see this car finished....
That looks BEAUTIFUL slick as hell, keep it up guys !
And nice music by the way.
well done boys, looks 10x better than mine.
Mint. Just had to do the the weekly grocery shop, come home see this, time for a beer!
THIS is the type of MCM I miss, not the new crap having thousand dollar tools and engine swaps etc.
finally who installs them the right direction
cant wait for more honda build updates
Those hood pins look super sick mad Moog
That bumper looks amazing!!
Love that toothpaste idea, so simple, I can't believe I've never thought of it! The number of times that would have come in useful for knowing where to cut/drill!
Martys back!
I own a Ford Escort much similar to the trd lzr. I will definitely be installing these next!
ok guys i hope you read this comment. i read the blog about the s2000. here is one that you guys have never done before. i here you on the no turbo for a wile. but this is kinda cheap and i am shur people want to know how to do it. why not install some upgraded cams for the k20 motor. cams and cheap and you can do it and home. i think it would make a good video and it will help out with the NOS two. good luck guys.
