Nice to see an update review on the sci fi 🤙🏼 How did it compared to the Revo for you? Would love to see a Revo review as well!

I surfed the OG Sci-fi for years the best fins setup I found was quad large performers up front with reactor quad rears .

    Hi Mike
    Great insight and great waves.
I live in Lisboa and bought my Sci-Fi 2 second hand 2 years ago, still in a great shape. It’s a great board, very fast and responsive, I think they make a wonderful job hiding foam, specially on the front part of the board. I think the rocker is more user friendly on the second version.
I usually ride boards like 5’11 or less with 30 litters and mine has 33 litters, almost 34 (5'11" X 19 7/8" X 2 5/8" X 33.8L) Last year I took it to Indonesia and I was really surprised on the overhead and plus surf. I though it would be very skatey and loose for me in the bigger surf, but turn out to be my favorite board for the whole trip. The extra volume help me to catch a lot of waves and still be fast and able to control it.
Saying that, I don’t think it is a good daily driver. The board needs some strong waves, I don’t like to surf it in 2-3 foot waves, unless it’s a strong beachbreak or something like that.
Hope the waves are coming, because it ‘been a very slow summer. Hope to see your review on the REVO. (I really like you surf with a pointy nose surfboard)

Thank you🙏 wow, it turned out to be a great Indo Board! The Si Fi 1 goes pretty well in small waves. I'm not surfing punchy, heavy waves much, so I don't think it would be a great surfboard for me now. Thank you for the insights. Yes, hopefully, we will get some good swell soon.
I will do something about the Revo soon.
Pointy noses look better, but I love how those blunt-nose surfboards go. I have a great Ferox with the cut-off nose that goes great🤙

@@surfingtipsandtricks My daily driver now is a Twinsmann, by Album. It’s my brother’s board, I have to give it back in the end of the summer. Very hard to find and very expensive. It’s insane, I might order one…5'4, 30 litters, in 2-3 foot surf goes unreal.
Yes, I have seen you surf with that ferox board, got me thinking ordering one. Board with pointy noses just look better. I think aesthetics matter.I am sure all these black boards feel amazing, but I don’t like how they look. Same thing with assimetric boards, the look like wakeboards.

@@Tiaguini78 Yeah, I agree about the look. I never liked watching Slater surf weird noses, and I felt like he would have won more in the last ten years if he had surfed more traditional equipment. But they do surf well. And I know what you mean about kiteboards and wakeboards for sure😀🤙

good review , I got the Sci FI 2 and only used it once as my other board is the JS Psycho Nitro which is good in most conditions but I used the Sci Fi in good punchy over head waves as a quad and first surf it felt amazing so much speed and drive out of turns , on cut backs it got faster as you went back into the white water which is great as most boards tend to loose speed at that point, its more pulled in in the tail than the original Sci Fi , which helps it in hollower waves it always feels connected , and its got a bit more volume so you can ride it smaller than the original which also helps , as for turns it goes vertical in turns with ease , I recommend giving one a try I will be using mine more for winter conditions where there"s more power .

    • @surfingtipsandtricks
      @surfingtipsandtricks  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Thanks🙏 And thanks for the insights. It is interesting that Sci-Fi 2 is better in more powerful and bigger waves-the same with the Evo and the Revo. I can still feel the speed in the Revo, but it is a very different board designed for better waves.
Considering that the Evo and Si-Fi were such popular models and good sellers.
Tomo or Firewire decided to make them more into more high-performance models. I definitely would like to try one for sure. I will have to check out the JS Psycho Nitro, too. Yes, the speed Tomo boards have through and out of turns is incredible 🤙

    • @Dicko301
      @Dicko301 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

Yeah the Psycho Nitro is a good board ,been renamed now as the Sub Zero , basically the same board , but a bit more refined in the rails and tail shape , goes great as a quad or 2+1 , in less than perfect waves.

Hey Mike! Me again! Your friend from Hawaii! The FireWire Rebels haha!!!
My Mannn!!! You is KILLING IT!!! I have to agree with one of the comments I read. You look awesome on that pointed traditional shortboard shape. Super Performancy. Loving this figure 8s you doing. Nice wrap arounds. And how’s them BUCKETS 🪣 YEEEEEEE 😎 Both Boards you look awesome with man! The EVO and the Sci Fi.
Don’t get the Sci Fi 2 bro. You already got the REVO for punchier surf. Exactly like I was telling you. It needs some power. But I know your excitement man. Just like me. You want to test its capabilities. Reason for buying it 💯 Revo still looked good. Just needing that right day.
Side note: I went hypocrite on you. My Wife ended up buying me Rob Machados Too Fish 😅 😊
After trying that board on numerous occasions. I tried a 5’8 @35.5 Liters with up right performance fins.
I tried my other friends 5’6 Too Fish @33.2 liters & that was FUNNNNNNN.
I’m talking about slow crappy summer waves and somehow I performed two figure 8s, one floater & 4 wrap around snaps all on the same wave. During a session I was surfing on my EVO. The Too Fish out performed the EVO.
I had such a BLAST 💥 I took a detour on the way home and went to the surf shop to finally commit to buying one.
Believe it or not!? When I got back to shortboarding. It was the very first board I held in my hand. I wanted that board so bad. But a lot of friends was telling me it wasn’t a good board. It’s funny doe! Every one that owns a Too Fish! Doesn’t want to ever get rid of theirs…
I had mines for 5 days now and I still haven’t got to put wax on it and drive down to the South Side to surf it. I live out on the West Side and it’s been a dry summer. So I can’t wait till my day off on Thursday.
I never rode a 5’2 @ 27.8 Liters. But I’m hoping and crossing fingers! It wasn’t the buoyancy and foam under that 5’6. That made that crappy day fun.
We’ll find out in a few days man. Much Aloha Always. Sorry for the long comment man. Just had to share Cheeee 🤙🏽 😎 🏄🏽‍♂️ 🌎

At least it’s more liters than my Machadocado that I sold 5’2 25.9 liters. Which I still groveled not bad on. But just! Better boards out there. Aloha 🤙🏽

@@KyleSurfHawaii Hey, thanks for the kind words🙏🙏
      You're right. I'm not going to buy a Sci-fi 2.
I wanted a Seaside and the Too Fish, but I went and bought the Cado and the Mashup instead.
I'm going to take the Cado back to the shop and see if I can get a deal on a Too Fish; I already have the fins 😂
I feel I had bought the wrong Machado boards.
But now that you have tried it and it surfs better than the Evo, I'm sold on it.
I won't surf the Cado again anyway. Hopefully, they have a good-sized Too Fish for me.
Let me know how your surf goes when you get it in the water.
Sending good vibes from Portugal 🇵🇹 🤙🤙🙏🙏

@@surfingtipsandtricks Hey Thanks Brother! Will do 🤙🏽
And I forgot to mention I used Robs Newer Style Keel Fins with the 5’6 model I tried. It surfed real stylish with Flow and performance. It’s the Red and Black in color model. Goes with his Too Fish Board. So I HAD TOO buy that same exact setup for my 5’2. That’s how much fun I had.
Gonna sample it tomorrow! Cheeee !!! 🤙🏽

    Hi Mike,
Great video. I would be interested to know your thoughts on the Revo now? I recently snapped my Revo in morroco but hands down was my favourite board and found it worked in overhead stuff in indo and morroco. I’m now torn with buying the Revo again or getting a sci-fi 2.0 or cymatic and would be interested in your take?
    Cheers

    • @surfingtipsandtricks
      @surfingtipsandtricks  หลายเดือนก่อน

Thank you🙏I haven't surfed the Revo much, but I have found that it goes pretty well in small (waist-up) and bigger surf.
I haven't tried the Sci-fi 2; I can test it at some point.
The Sci-fi 1 surfs in small surf and up to head-high (for me), but guys say in the comments that Sci-fi 2 has a very different rocker and needs more punchy, powerful waves.
I have heard really good things about the Cymatic, but I haven't tried it.
If you really like the Revo, you should get another one, but if you want to try something different, I don't think you can go wrong with either of those 2 models. I hear more people talking about the Cymatic.
Both models are tried and tested.
For example, the Evo: I love that board, but I don't want to surf it anymore because I have surfed it so much. Do you feel that way about the Revo?🤙

Thanks for your comment. The answer is in the video: many second-hand models are out there.
Some people don't have the money for a new board, and others want to buy second-hand as it is good for the environment ♻️ Its a really good all-rounder as it shows in the video.
I am thinking of riding it again myself as some newer models I have tried are disappointing compared.
Tomo’s newer Revo and Sci-fi 2 have been refined to surf in better and more powerful waves were as the Sc-fi is good in terrible waves and good waves
