The motivational speaker industry is full of people who are on the verge of falling apart. Farley captures it perfectly.
"Living in a van down by the river" became a thing after this. Whenever a friend or co-worker really f**ked up, you would tell them that " You're gonna end up living in a van down by the river!"
I remember that
RIP Phil Hartman
Very underrated. One of my favorites!
"Why is he standing like that..." Because it makes you laugh!
And because he was trying to break up Spade
@@debbiehanson9201 And he succeeded!
She's kind of dumb.
Chris Farley was an athlete. He played football in high school. He was a physical comedian like his hero John Belushi.
Yep. It went Jon Belushi, Chris Farley then Jack Black
He also played rugby in college
@@mrtoad8585 Right. Exactly.
Hopefully Jack Black doesn't follow in Belushi and Farley's footsteps...
@@mrtoad8585 Didn't know that. I know Rugby isn't that popular in the US
She was the guest host that week 😀
Odenkirk wrote the bit (Breaking bad, Better Call Saul) when him and Farley were improv guys in Chicago. Farley embellished it with a mashup of coaches and teachers he had in High School.
And also his dad.
I've been a fan of Bob's since Mr Show.
Chris Farley was a true gem. A brilliant skit comedy/character actor.
R.I.P. Chris
This and the Chippendales tryout are my favorite Chris Farley skits. My jaws are hurting from watching this! She was a guest, and she's and underrated actress. Phil Hartman is the dad here, and he's a GIANT of comedy. Died too young. Plays the corporate straight man really well. Some of the commercials he did for SNL "Colon Blow" are AWESOME!
The Chippendales skit was the first thing I ever saw Chris Farley in, and was crying in laughter by the time it was done. A physical comedy genius.
Zagats skit!
*Chris Farley's* physical comedy was gold
Yes. That is Christina. She was that week's guest host. Pay attention to how much Chris makes her break character. Also send her, and Selma Blair, good vibes they are both dealing with Multiple Sclerosis. It so sad.
I was Diagnosed with MS in 2020.. It's a hard disease to deal with ..You have to fight everyday! Christina & Selma are Warriors!!
Send Chris good vibes as well. Hopefully he gets better.
@@RareHarmony Hi, who is Chris? Excuse my ignorance. Thank you.
@@404RACER4 All the best to you. Be a fighter! You got this. I'm feeling hopeful. I may not know you but I will root for you!
They now believe that being infected with the Epstein-Barr virus (mono) is a leading cause of developing MS later in life. Since not all people report having had it prior to developing MS, they speculate there are other causes but it's the most common one. It's sad anyone has to deal with such a terrible disease.
Another great Chris Farley sketch on SNL is "The Chris Farley Show" where he interviews people. The Paul McCartney interview is the best.
"Y...you remember when...you were in the Beatles?"
I think Jeff Daniels was a guest on the Chris Farley show too.
Yes, do this one it's great
I feel that Zach Galifianakis was going for some of that "awkward interviewer" flavor with his "between two ferns" sketches. But Chris did it much better. I like Zach as a comedian and actor, but I'm not a fan of the "ferns" bits; they're too weird and awkward, and usually with a kind of 'edge' to them that doesn't appeal to me. (Others may disagree, and that's fine, I'm just saying what works for me personally.) "The Chris Farley Show" sketches were awkward, but always with a shy, charming kind of ineptitude that Chris pulled off so well.
@@everyonelovesmajima Yes this ^
In a van DOWN BY THE RIVER! Iconic.
No one in the world would go through a table like Chris , man dude was funny
I think that he snuck that table onein without telling anyone, because David Spade & Phil Hartman's reaction to look out for Chris. Making Phil Hartman break in any way, was a major badge of honor. He was a consummate professional and barely, if ever broke over his tenure there
His physical comedy is what made Farley special. It makes this sketch.
Christina Applegate was the guest host that night. This was at the height of her Married with Children career.
This and the Chippendales skit are iconic. Farley is a legend.
Chris developed Matt Foley when he was part of an Improv group in Chicago " The Second City". There is a real Matt Foley.Chris named the character after one of his Marquette University rugby union teammates. He became a Catholic priest.I love how David Spade & Christina Applegate nearly break
You have to go find The Church Lady recurring skit featuring Dana Carvey. This was a huge pop culture character!
The character Matt Foley was created by Bob Odenkirk of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul fame for Chris when they worked at The Second City in Chicago.
Christina was the guest host for that night. Farley falling onto the table was improvised.
Yea Chris played defensive tackle in football in highschool and was actually very good. He just wasn't big enough to play at the next level. His physicality is definitely one of the best things about his comedy. He is about as animated of a human being you will ever see. This one is definitely one of his best. Christina used to be my big crush back in the day lol. She wasn't a cast member but hosted the show on this episode. Each episode has a guest celebrity host so when you see a non cast member in a few skits it's bc they hosted. Hosting SNL has always been a big deal and means you've kind of made it as a star. Next I would reccomend doing Chris Farley "Japanese game show" skit.
I remember this skit very well, the cast members had a hard time trying not to laugh. I believe Christina Applegate was just a guest, she played Kelly Bundy on 'Married with Children' and her father was Al Bundy; Ted Bundy 😆 And I really miss Phil Hartman and Chris Farley, back when SNL was great. You should see his interview with David Letterman when he did cartwheels when he was introduced. Comedy is one thing but physical comedy makes a comedian more special, Farley and John Ritter (Three's Company) had that.
OMG she should really do some Married With Children!
@@ConspiracySmurfShe said she grew up with Christina, so my guess is she's seen the show before. It was a great show; hard to imagine anyone not watching it if they were alive and old enough when it first aired (or even watching repeats later on). :)
Probably greatest SNL character of all time. Farley was a fricken legend.
I went to Marquette when Chris was there in the mid 80's.
Lived a few houses down from him. He was on the rugby team and wore a Marquette rugby jacket in the opening scenes of the movie Tommy Boy.
There was a local drinking establishment that had an activity known as a naked beer slide. Imagine, or not, it's near closing time, a quite underdressed Farley racing(?) from the bathroom and sliding face first on his belly across the beer soaked floor of the bar. Then put his clothes back on and continued drinking.
His most beloved scene! Still gotta watch Tommy boy!!
There is a SNL sketch were Chris Farley and Patrick Swayze are trying out to be male exotic dancers. If you want to see some physicality by Chris Farley - react to that sketch. It is hilarious
Waynes World movie was orginally SNL recurring skit with Dana Carvey and Mike Myers, ya need those in your life, too.
Chris Farley was always trying, and succeeding, in making his castmates break character and laugh lol you can see it on all of their faces, they're trying not to laugh
If you liked this one you should watch the episode with Patrick Swazey they were having a dance competition it was great.
She already has
Did it a few days ago! Find her reaction!
"DOWN BY THE RIVER!!!" gets me every time. Thank you sis! I haven't seen this in forever!!! Love to ya"ll!❤😂😂😂
I remember watching this when it aired, and it was obvious that neither Christina nor David Spade could help but laugh. And David worked a lot with Chris. Definitely a skit made classic by Farley’s over the top physical comedy.
When he fell on the table, it wasn't known by the cast that he would do that. That was a natural reaction by the other four. The skit was written by Chris Farley, and not telling them about the fall was genius. You could see them jump, and the look of concern, before they realized it was planned. It was a breakaway table. It looks like cardboard.
I don't know if you've seen it yet, but my favorite SNL skit all-time is "Debbie Downer" in Disney World, when Lindsay Lohan hosted. That one has me laughing so hard, I'm crying... even after the 100th view!!! 😂
I'm really glad to see you and others keeping Chris Farley alive and a new generation just discovering him. I'm also bummed that I just said "a new generation" because that means I'm old.
The best part of this is when Farley picks up Spade and he breaks character and laughs his ass off.
Back when Saturday Night Live was GOOD. This Skit will live on FOREVER!!!
This sketch is often considered the funniest in SNL history.
This cast contained one of the biggest comedy movie stars in history, maybe the biggest stand-up of all-time, the most versatile comedy TV/Movie star of his time, and multiple other TV and movie stars. And all of them agree that Chris Farley was the funniest guy they had ever met.
His Chippendales sketch with Patrick Swayze is iconic
Farley always gave 110% and then some. Truly one of the funniest men ever. Died way too young. 😢
He was on the Conan O'Brien show as Matt Foley. You should do a reaction on that skit. Also very funny
Chris Farley was one of a kind!
Thank you for mentioning MS. My mom suffers from it as well. It is a HORRIBLE disease that I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. I hope they find a cure soon.
Hilarious! Chris Farley is one of the few gems from SNL that I liked!
I watched this sketch live. Jesus to be able to go back to 1994. I was 15. Not a care in the world. I looked forward to snl every Saturday night. Matt Foley became an icon of my generation. Also, living in a van down by the river doesn't sound so bad right now. 😂
I remember seeing this when it first aired and we all exploded when he fell on the table.
One of the most iconic SNL skits of all time!
P.S. You should react to "Al Bundy's Greatest Insults". If you use to watch the show its a blast from the past.
I don't know if she can handle Al!
This is probably the most memorable SNL skit ever created.
There's a great SNL show where Paul McCartney was the host & a skit that Chris did an interview with him. It was hilarious!
As you watch more of these SNL sketches, Britt, keep in mind normally at least one person in each sketch is the guest host not a cast member. Every episode of SNL except for like five have a guest host. If you keep watching these you're going to see a lot of famous people show up.
Van DOWN by the RIVER !!!!!!!!!
Farley was pure comic genius. Don't we all live in a van down by the river
Everyone says that Chris was the best at prat falls. Because most people would put their hands out, or brace themselves a bit before they hit the ground. But Chris would fall like he just got knocked out.
"Why is he crouching like that..." don't figure it out, just roll with it. He's beaten down by life.
I think you enjoy Chris Farley's films. He is very likable and plays the perfect goofball with a heart of gold lol.
Adam Sandlers's SNL sketch called The Denise Show is a hilarious classic. I highly recommend it!
I've watched that skit a dozen times over the years and can't not laugh at it!
YES!!! A quick big thumbs up!!! My dear this skit gets my best laugh, no matter how many times I see it.😂😂😂 May he & the Lunch room lady RIP❤.
Best job I ever had was being a phone technician at Columbia Studios when Christina Applegate was there for Married....
The voice is based on Chris' father, who had a tendency to scream into a weird high-pitched pocket when he was super-pissed. The stance is based on a rugby player friend of his named Larry Hill, who played rugby on the outside of his feet, so that his top and bottom halves were staggered rather than aligned. Chris was an athlete for most of his life so even though he was big, he had a LOT of experience being physical.
Chris basically did this sketch several times a week for about a year at The Second City Theatre with a lot of people who went on to be on _SNL_ or _Mr. Show_ while studying with the legendary Del Close.
Mrs.Britt, I KNEW YOU WOULD LOVE THIS SKIT !!!! Excellent reaction by the way, I laughed as hard as you did the first time I watched it !
Thank you!!
This was one of the funniest skits that Chris Farley ever did
Getting such laughable moments whenever she gets shocked at his raised voice....and the the table slam. SO funny in and of themselves, so much funnier when you see someone experiencing it for the first time. :)
Yeeeessssss thanks a bunch Britt.
Patrick Swayze dance off for Chippendales. Chris can MOVE!!!!
She already reacted to that
@@MikeB12800 my bad. missed that.
With Ted Bundy.
Too funny!
That was funny.
Al Bundy was the dad on the show “Married… With Children”. And yes, Ted Bundy was a serial killer.
I heard that him falling through the table wasn't planned, but being a true professional he just rolled with it
"Matt Foley" was the name of Chris Farleys best friend, who became a catholic priest.
Christina was just SNL’s host that night. This was in 1993, when she was at the peak of her Married With Children fame.
A beautiful classic
Matt Foley as Santa Clause! That's a hilarious skit too!
Very physical comedy, often falling or hurting himself for a laugh. This was definitely one of his classics.
The next one you should check out is the Chip N Dale's audition from SNL when Chris Farley has to do a topless dance-off with Patrick Swayze. That is pure comedy gold.
The greatest SNL skit ever. FACT.
He doesn't sound like he's about to cry. He sounds like he's compressing all his energy like a pressure cooker or something.
Because he's jacked up on coffee.. Then he lets it all out in those short outbursts.
R.I.P to both legends Phil Hartman and Chris Farley
I've worked hard all my life so that my wife, my kids, and my grandchildren wouldn't have to live in a van down by the river. RIP Chris and Phill.
My favorite part is David Spade breaking character, and Christina Applegate basically crying as Farley was talking to him. They were best friends in real life.
I remember seeing this when it came out. I was howling laughter at him being such a goof and everyone else trying not to laugh.
You need to check out Chris Farley doing a Newt Gingrich impression in front of the Senate!!! Good news is Newt had a Wonderful Sense of Humor!!!😂😂😂❤ RIP CHRIS!!!
One time in the 70s Gilda Radner, got in trouble for popping her boobs out on live tv during the news segment. She was a crazy lady married to Gene Wilder (Willy Wonka). This show has sooooo much history and boosted so many careers but there was some dark stuff, too. This show was always edgy and wild till recent years when they started being more careful not to offend...the thing was nothing and no one was off limits and it was ok...now, it's "safe".
Chris Farley was the best! Loved him so much. :) He did the Matt Foley character several times, and they were all funny skits. You should also check out the Lunch Lady Land skit. X)
Farley was the BEST! And this skit belongs in the hall of fame.
When this first aired, it was basically the funniest thing anybody had ever seen
Legendary sketch
Its Al bundy....In 1966, he scored 4 touchdowns in a single game while playing for the Polk High School Panthers in the City Championship game vs. Andrew Johnson High School, including the game-winning touchdown in the final seconds against his old nemesis, Bubba "Spare Tire" Dixon.
All-time classic !!
This is the best😂
I've seen Chris Farley do cartwheels on I think David Letterman. Hilarious.
RIP Chris Farley and Phil Hartman ❤
The character's name was Al Bundy from "Married With Children".
Rip to both Chris Farley and Phil Hartman
All-Star skit with *Chris Farley Phil Hartman David Spade & Christina Applegate*
If you want to see a great example of Chris and his physical comedy, I recommend watching Beverly Hills Ninja. He did his own "stunts" and was totally balls to the wall.
"Hey dad, is that Bill Skakespeare over there?" - I'm dead
yo this channels is full of scammers....
I just wanna say, I’m glad you’re back. Hugs.❤
😊 thank you
This sketch made farley a star....legendary shit.
This sketch...this exact moment in tv history....i was 14 years old & ill never forget watching it happen.
Live, on snl
Chris Farley was a comedic genius!!! Gon way too soon!!!
RIP Chris!
The "stance" is to prevent his pants from falling down!
Chris was one of the bests I laughed so hard at this skit over the years and soo many of his things he was in. Have you ever watched the movie "Tommy boy" its epic 😂
Oh, the 90s, I was a teenager. Christina was a big deal and if I was home on a Saturday night I'd watch snl. I remember watching this the night aired. I thought it was funny, but I didn't think 30 years later it would still be a hit, and Christina and I would both have MS.
07:00 Britt: "The pants are not going anywhere -- they're belted, Sir"
LMAO!
