In this video, I take on a PS4 fat with no video output, AKA WLOD, AKA White Light of Death. The seller admitted he had worked on the console but was unable to repair it.
What I like about you is that you don't edit out the soldering difficulties that come into play. Many do just to make themselves look better than they really are. For that reason I just subscribed. Keep up the good work.
Nice job! I replaced this damn qfn chip on the same model some days ago, tested on my bench LCD (an old Samsung 20" tv...) and worked fine. Now I got this PS4 back since works only on some monitors, tried different cables, tried different TV, tried switching off HDCP (on one LG TV this brought to audio only but no video). I guess I had to rework the qfn chip, or maybe was a faulty one (got from another board...)
The sanding you thought was done with a fiberglass pen is actually due to running the soldering iron back and forth while trying to tin the sides of the qfn. I struggle with this all the time, and I've changed so many of them. I'd have thought I would have had it down by now 🤦🏾♂️
For me what works is to place the chip with hot air and immediately start touching up the side contacts with my micro pencil while the board is still hot. The micro pencil is worthless after the board cools.
If you have oxidized leads on chips, try clean them (and wet them with solder again) before soldering them onto the pcb. It's a bit extra work, but is it really in the long run?
@@jonathansandiford4137 Good luck - You could use an even more effective flux (those requiring clean-up) too, as the flux won't spread all over the pcb/components.
QFN chips are still something i struggle with, and ive been doing this for 5 years now... hard to make the solder run up the side of the chip without bridging 2 pins together
That soldering Looks like a TH-cam Streamers earlier days of console repairing can't pin point if it's "TronixFix", or "Joey Does Tech" meh not important other than he did say he sold it with full transparency on it's servicing. Long story short after he replaced that chip there was no change in behaviour, and as I said he sold it providing the buyer with all the details as to what was done so far on the unit. APU👁👍
Damn... I have 2 PS4 fat WLOD, no matter how hard I'm trying, I can't make some very nice solder bubble like you do on the motherboard and the encoder IC... Using flux and leaded solder too. And I keep having no video, so I don't know if the encoder is good or fake, because my soldering skill if completely off ^^' Anyway, I like your videos, so keep it up!
10:30 is that 22ohms or 22K? Because i have a slim board with a faulty hmdi ic. The zener diode is faulty and has 'DJ' on it (24v sod-323) the resistor beside it measures 22ohms.
Grate bro I have ps5 with no signal problem the ps5 work perfectly because I change the Hdmi port but still the same the image come only when I plug in the hdmi cable for 3 second and the screen turn black again what do u think in I change CONTROLLER HDMI MN864739

There are always difficulties! Thanks for subscribing! I'm working on more as time permits.
Genius!!! I just bought a ps4 for $88 that needs a "HDMI port replacement" according to the seller. i hope my fix goes smoothly. Wish me luck!
Keep them coming! Your process, cadence, knowledge is so approachable! Thank you for the knowledge! Am I not entertained!!?? I Am!
Glad I could entertain! Thanks for the kind words!
Busy with watching World Cup. I appreciate your hard work and sharing another excellent ps4 fix.
Thanks for multi-tasking!

Nice work!! The qfn chip I find it more easy to do reflowing from the bottom of the board, the result it's almost perfect!
I haven't tried that yet. Hmmm.
Great information as always sir!
Thank you very much sir!

Another wonderful video! Nice joints btw! Thank you, Sir! Cheers
Thank you sir!
Another Great Repair and Video! Thank You.
Thanks so much! I'm so happy people enjoy them!

@@EgonSorensen thanks I will give this a try

@@EgonSorensen I typically use kingbo rma 218. Was thinking of getting some amtec.
My go to for wlod is comparing diode readings using a breakout board to known good values, has not failed me yet
Yep! It's always good to have notes for known good diode readings in troublesome circuits like this.
Very very good sir, I really enjoyed it!
Thank You!!
Thank you for explaining 😊 very good on details
I try to provide details when I can. Thanks!
Another enjoyable video.
Thank you very much!!

I still struggle with the QFN package, just not as much. I learn a little more each time. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Even i struggle i think proper top quality tip, flux and solder will make it a breeze, though it's expensive investment for hobbyists like myself.

Pre-tin and use lots of flux. Gently press the chip down when the solder is liquid. The QFN is one of the hardest packages to install.
Excelente !!

The one connected to pin 19 is 22 ohms.
Good job mate 👍
Thanks 👍

Did you study electronics in school? You seem to know lots.
I did study a long time ago. I have a two year degree in electronics.
Hello...can you please send me a spi dump along with wifi controller model number?... Much appreciated...
Hello, my friend, how are you? Can we exchange information? I work in the same field, how can I contact you?
