    My Favorite Gym

Most of the 24 hour fitness locations in my area are REALLY poorly maintained. They refuse to fix damaged equipment, even simple things. The Hoist bicep curl machine at my local gym has had broken handles for 10 months now, I ask every time I go for them to fix it... they refuse. I looked up the handles from Hoist Fitness, they are like $10. I'd buy them myself, but they aren't the snap on kind, someone needs to fix the attachment with special equipment.
The gym is always filthy, the bathrooms are disgusting, sinks don't work, hand soap is always empty, and the basketball court is always FULL of trash. My last visit, there was at least 50 empty bottles, trash, and a ROTTEN banana on the court. Had to be there for 2 weeks or more. I won't even describe the bathrooms or locker rooms, they are a HORROR show. It's truly disgusting. They are RARELY cleaned, and when they are, the staff doesn't do anything. I've watched them, it's a joke. It's so bad, it's absolutely a health and safety hazard. They should be inspected.
Also, this is NOT isolated to one location. I live in CA and work in TX, I have regularly gone to 10+ locations. Some are better than others, but 80% of them are TRASH. Worth noting, this is in NICE, high net worth areas. I'm not talking about locations in the hood (which I have also been to).
Locations I have been to regularly:
    - Laguna Niguel, CA
    - Dana Point, CA
    - Mission Viejo, CA
    - San Juan Capistrano, CA
    - San Clemente, CA (nicer than most)
    - Dallas, TX (on 75)
    - Plano, TX
    - Irving, TX
    - Addison, TX (close now)
    - Downtown Dallas, TX (closed now)
    - Dallas (Mockingbird), TX (close now)
I only make that list to say, I'm not referring to just one location. I have also been to 20+ other locations at least 1-5 times (I travel for work a LOT). Also, worth noting... I used to work at 24 hour fitness when I was in college, MANY years ago. I can tell you as a 20+ year customer and former employee, THEY DO NOT CARE. NOT ONE BIT.
So, why do I still have a membership? I got my membership 20 years ago. I got it during a promotion where I paid $750 for 3 years, but after 3 years, my membership only costs $20 per YEAR, which they bill me $1.66/mo. And that is for ALL clubs (low, medium, and high tier) worldwide. They used to have international locations too, but I'm not sure after COVID. They close more than half their locations.
Bottom line, if you are paying less than $2/mo... you can't complain. If you are paying $30/mo or more, you deserve better.
So, what are your alternatives? Honestly, I don't know. In my experience, most big chain gyms are nice when they first open. That will last 1-3 years, then they go from nice to average. After 5 years, it drops off a lot. After 10 years, most gyms I've seen (in the $10-$50/mo range) become trash. Owners do NOT want to spend ANY money to maintain them, let alone improve them. I'm talking about 24 Hour Fitness, LA Fitness, Planet Fitness, etc.
If you step up to LifeTime Fitness at around $250/mo, you will have a wildly different experience, BUT... make no mistake, 24 Hour Fitness is making a TON of money from every location. They can 100% keep them up better, but they just refuse.

I had a big problem with the gym pool and the poor air circulation. Their showers and bathroom were disgusting, and not being kept up with. If you look at the top of the ceiling in the pool area, you can see the build up of dirt in the AC filters, which made my lungs hurt after swimming. This location is on Foothill and Masi Dr, California. I’m not sure if this has changed, but it was like that six months ago. I haven’t gone there recently, will have to see if it has changed.

Do they have a leg extension machine?

Those old school machines are very good. It really doesn't matter. All what you need to know is how to work out. Which most people today Have no idea in what they are, doing Including trainers to.

I haven't been there in a few years. Not even sure what it has or doesn't have any longer or if it's even open because of Covid. I would call or visit if interested in knowing.
