@@ladbiblestories everyone in my family has read this book, it’s done the rounds, we all really enjoyed it and found it so interesting. Highly recommended.
I had a boss who kept saying "I" and "my" instead of "we" and "our". It was demotivating until it became funny amongst us. It derived, I think, from him being a disappointment to his father who an admiral in the navy.
I was the little girl that found the purse of one of Peter Tobins victims in south sea all those many years ago. My dad handed it in to the police station with me and I remember it had £30 in it along with a photo amongst other things. My dad left his details for any follow up questions and I can’t remember how long after it was but we eventually got a call saying her family wanted me to have the money left in the purse to say thank you for bringing it in rather than keeping it for myself. I bought a teddy bear from ‘kids stuff’ at the end of my Nan and granddads road, and I still have it today.
It's stories like these that sometimes make me forgive myself for all the time I spent online, watching videos and reading comments. Thanks for sharing this!
My uncle drowned trying to save his friend on one of their annual crab fishing trips (it was a trio that went, the third tried to stop my uncle and ended up watching his friends die). He knew better than to try saving him but emotions got the best of him. It's thanks to people like this gentleman that we found his body 3 days later and didn't have to wait 7 years to declare him gone. His buddies body was never found.
"She bit him ... which was a bit grim." I love the very British way in which Mr. Faulding speaks. Reminds me of my grandfather and uncle, true Brits who spoke in such colorful yet understated ways.
Agreed. I was just listening to an old interview with the last capital punishment execution squad in the UK. evidently the condemned is left hanging on the rope for an hour so the heart can stop. This very proper British gentleman described it as, They are left on the rope for an hour to ensure all electrical activity has stopped. This does not mean the death had not occurred. It is because there is(pregnant pause) a certain irritation in the central nervous system. Good damn. Have to love the Brits. Irritation in the central nervous system? Mate, you just put a rope around a man’s neck then dropped him 8 feet into the room below with the express intention of breaking his neck in order to put him to death. And you did. You lot were very good at it. Some irritation. GTFOH. absolutely hilarious in their understatedness.
It's interesting to see how many of these heroes come from very humble beginnings. It seems that sometimes adversity and deprivation breeds determination and heart. Amazing humans...
Peter. That opening statement, experienced exactly that in my youth in the river Derwent . Despite my knowledge of the rudimentary life saving skills I didn't have the luxury of being able to position myself correctly as we were both already in the water at the time. The person struggling started using me as a float hands on my shoulders.... both lived to tell the tale though. Thank you for all that you do.
Many decades ago my husband did underwater search and recovery before the RCMP in our area had a dive team. Everything this gentleman said about drowning victims tracks with what my hubby said.
As much as I dislike the police in the current state. Thank you for your service you sir are one of the few people in that organisation that are a credit to the public.

Another fascinating video thank you. I have read his book, it’s quite an interesting life and career Peter has had. It must be very rewarding for him to be able to bring closure to all the families that he has helped.
The “grip” is standard 00:10. Not exclusive to drowning. Head trauma, hanging, burning, drowning. At our most vulnerable we reach and grasp. It’s also simply just a reflex/ tightening of tendons/muscles
I scanned the comments for this . I wondered what made drowning victims grasp for something. But you’re correct t when we are very vulnerable we reach for something to hold onto.
