On behalf of that beat up piece of roofing, I both gave this video a 👍🏽 And it was subscribed to the channel whether it wanted to or not 😎 I think the Henry would also be a great platform for younger hunters to learn on before they hop on up to 30-30, or my personal favorite, the 45-70. Of course it would take a little while for kiddos to, not only learn the mechanics of the rifle, but also the 10 commandments of firearm safety! Great video as always!!

I've only ever used .22shotshells in revolvers. One of my favorite tricks is to put 2 balloons 1/4inch apart& bet friends I can pop em both with one shot by shooting between them...of course I don't let em know I'm using a shotshell till after I shoot. It's a fun gag to play on them. PS, I didn't know Henry made a smoothbore .22. I've got the large loop short, long&long rifle Henry .22 carbine with the rifled barrel, which I love.

I'm Kenneth Edward Barnes and I'm an outdoor writer and author of many books of several genres. In the fall of 2019, Henry sent me their new Garden Gun and I tested it with several different shot shell loads and at several ranges. I also tested other smooth bore .22s and several .22s with riffling. I have an article about my results in my book "Barnestorming the Outdoors: Revised edition" on Amazon. I have used the little .22 shot shell since I was fourteen and that was in 1965. The CCI shot shell was the worse in pellet count and in pattering. The pellets in the shot shells from CCI are not uniform in size, some are number 12, but many others are even smaller and are size dust, which is the smallest size I know of. I tested the shot shells from Federal, Remington, Winchester, and one from Mexico.

I had a smooth bore bolt action single shot for rats... The pattern with these specific rounds was really random. Sometimes they were really clean like Buffalo showed. Sometimes the capsule stayed together and produced one hole. Weird.

Smooth bore rifle would be MUCH better for shotshell patterns. But that's a bit of a rare bird, and it's of no use with single projectiles.
Ha. And then I see the barrel stamp at the end of the video. Call me spider-winked.

Thanks for the comment. I really appreciate Henry for sending this one over for the comparison between the rifled H001 and the smooth bore Garden Gun. I'm in my mid 40s and spiders STILL creep me out! ;)

Those .22 shotshells are made for about 10 feet. If a snake is farther away than 10 feet, it’s not a threat. Additionally, these rounds are made to be shot through handguns. To that end, you’d have a lot better results with .38 Special, .44 Special, or .45 ACP shotshells. They have more, and bigger, pellets.

You could shoot spider's, wasps, flies, excreta, just for fun. But those c.c.i. shot shell's are expensive. Just got some,15 bucks for 20 rounds!☹️

What kind of damage does it do to barn tin at say 10feet? Lots of barns have tin walls too and you wouldn't want to tear them up.

At $400+- I personally couldn't justify the purchase but if Heritage made a 4" smooth bore revolver (and if it didn't have to be classified as a SBS) I'd buy one just for goofing around with.

Very cool to see a smooth bore. .22 avaliable again, One oppon a time in the 80s, we would shoot rat's in a mates Aircraft Hanger, that was a hell of a fun way to spend the weekends .. 👍👍🇦🇺

Birdshot in crimped cartridges is much more powerful than CCI’s capsulated.
Crimped cartridges = Remington & Winchester. Now that said, CCI’s 22wmr or “Magnum”, has a lot of power, even out of a revolver.
I’ve shot mice at close range with the 22wmr in a 5” barrel revolver and there wasn’t much left.

I had a rat issue last year & took care of several with the .22 shot shells at close range using a vinjtage single shot with rifled barrel. Once I heard about the Henry smooth bore I immediately went about trying to get one. Took over a year waiting for a Canadian vendor to finally get several examples so I snapped one up. Haven't shot it yet but it's nice to know via your video that the shells pattern much better. Money well spent for me. ;-)

I see all of the other comments asking how this gun will perform with bullets instead of shot. I’m curious too, but......Your closeup view of the barrel show the warning from Henry that this gun is for use with shotshells only. Give Henry a call before you try bullets in it. Perhaps there is a bore diameter constraint which could elevate pressure to unsafe levels.
