I mentioned at the start of the video that this is the Maverick 88 fully rifled slug gun but I am still getting comments asking if it has a rifled barrel. So, if you're wondering, yes, it does have a rifled barrel. Thanks for watching and Happy New Year!
Happy New year to you and yours as well! I wanted to say, thank you for the Eagle Six gear suggestion. I ordered a couple shirts and the hat I asked about, love it. Was wondering also if maybe you could do a comp video of a Taurus v Charter Arms, if you have each of similar build? I might call them inexpensive as opposed to cheap revolvers, or just affordable in todays market. Thanks again! I Enjoy your videos!
I sure enjoy watching multiple channels, I want you both to know that when we see greetings and salutations between content creators, it helps you both!! Happy New Year fellas!
TFM...I like your videos, but you should spend more time reviewing ammunition we can actually buy and use. The oddball, homemade stuff is entertaining, but really useless information. Show me things I can buy and use.
They are what I have exclusively went to for my maverick 88. I have found that the 3 inch groups better for mine, even though it's only a slight increase in speed. You also definitely can tell a difference in recoil in the 2 3/4 vs 3 inch. Hornandy SSTs were keyholing on paper, Remington acutips wouldnt reliably ignite, and lightfield shells kept expanding too much and jamming the action. But every shotgun is different. You just have to find what yours likes. Winchester partitioner gold will be my next one to test whenever I get around to it, but I'm pretty pleased with the trophy coppers and will be using them this deer season.
👍👍Freedom is the greater good is one of my favorite sayings now thanks to you. Those slugs looked pretty impressive, appreciate everything you do thanks Buffalo and hope your 2024 is awesome.
Excellent editing! Really like the big picture with the chronograph and target windows on screen! Never would have thought to use ballistic tap water!!! All this time I'm using regular tap water. Stupid me...
wow, you put a scope on that slug gun and you have a big game (Bear, Elk, Moose, etc) hunter out to 200 yards or more!!! Shotguns with these new slugs are the new big bore long range hunting outfits!!! With these numbers ...that slug gun is good for large dangerous game in Africa!!!
It's so cool how regular people can just now own and use the kind of cameras that get THAT kind of amazing slowmo capture of such high energy, high speed events
3:40 That's nice how you bring the chronograph and target views forward without compromising the view from where you're shooting, I saw the video when you first got the slug gun and you had to go check if you hit every time this is much better :)
No, Buffalo, thank you! Love your stuff! It would be nice if someone over at Federal Ammunition would offer up some various 12 gauge, 16 gauge. 20 gauge and .410 "test articles" on at least a one-off basis for you test out. Who knows!?! Maybe it could even be a companion series with our friends, Officer Greg & Jeff of Taofledermaus. Your 2 channels, well, actually 3 channels with OG's new-ish channel, are absolutely my favorites because y'all remind me of the good people and great, life-long friends I made when I was in law enforcement back in the 90s in Eastern North Carolina.
Just a FYI, pretty much the same results you could expect from a 45-70. Federal make a 300 grain 45-70 loading with muzzle velocity stated as 1850 fps. These bullets are a little bit bigger in diameter at 50 caliber with the same weight. I suspect the recoil is fierce.
These are great Sabot Slugs! The only 2 slugs i use are #1 Remington Accutip Sabot Slugs & #2 Federal Trophy Copper Sabot Slugs. They are by far my most expensive bullet to fire. So all you guys out their complaining about the price of 5.7 cant eat s*** try spending $5.00/Shot A box of 5 of each of these is 24.99 at Cabelas. Between how many the gun holds, my side saddle & stock sleeve i have just under $200.00 in shells on my shotgun alone lol Imo nothing beats the performance of these slugs. The accuracy & penetration are second to none. They basically turn your shotgun into a big bore rifle. Great upload brother. Happy New Year🇺🇸🇺🇸
Wow that slug is very impressive. And at that cost you dont waste many. That would be good for any big game in the US. Starting the year with a big bang
Great shooting and great presentation as always. looking forward to watching more of the same in 2024. Happy new year Buff to you and yours. Best wishes from England.
Impressive slug! A great 50y group and great expansion in water. I think I’ve got a few boxes of those somewhere; didn’t realize they were so valuable. All the best in ‘24 Buffalo!
Those are excellent slugs. I have about 400 of them I got as a demil component from BPI. Only $35 for ONE HUNDRED SLUGS! Keep your eye open at BPI and you may catch them back in stock, that is if you Load your own Shotshells. Believe it or not there are some really good demil components that pop up time to time. I think they’re just factory overstocks mainly along with actual demilled components, from faulty lots or what have you. 35 cent a slug for these, sabot, and slug. You just add your primer, powder, gas seal, cushion wads, and crimp.
That Maverick 88 rifled shotgun barrel is quite handy. I bought off gunbroker in 2018 a Mossberg 500 Viking 12 gauge with a ported 24" rifled barrel and a scope and a hard locking case, at a real bargain. The shop listed it as Viking not Mossberg and I was the only bidder on the gun, which was basically new. I've been meaning to get a Maverick 88 12 gauge and probably will this year and I'll bet the 500 slug barrel will fit on it and vice versa.
The 12 gauge 2 3/4 and 3 inch are both available on the federal website as of today I ordered some couple days ago. The 2 3/4 patterned less than an inch at 50 yds in a Henry single shot with a red dot
That’s venison in the freezer right there…praying for You and Yours to have a safe, Blessed and Happy New Year…same prayer and wishes for all your followers 😊😊😊🙏🙏🙏
Thank you Buffalo! Always informative and entertaining. May the Good Lord bless you and yours throughout 2024 and my He bless all of America. Edit: Man, that was best three shot group atv50 yards, without using a scope, that I've ever seen with a shotgun. That would be a pretty darn good group if you shot that with an AR with iron sights. There ain't nothing wrong with your eyes, you must have 20/18 vision.
Love the High Speed footage! The ammo gun combo is a serious way to get your 50cal point across. The slug gun - Maverick88 is like a Model T. FORD. Every home can afford one. If you need more than 5 shells, my condolences.
Pretty awesome performance with grouping & expansion. Right now there are a bunch of people trying to find some for next year. Be pretty good for bear hunters also. Sure put them down quick. Appreciate the info. Have a great year. 🙏👍💥🎯
Bruce here, your presentation and common sense way of testing is wonderful. I drilled and tapped the top of my 500 to mount a rail for a scope. It was done in a milling machine to mount on center of the receiver. At 75 iron sights don’t play fair with my shooting at distance.
I use those rounds in my bear defence hiking carry mossburg 500. Mine are the 437 gr. 3" mag ar 1600 fps. I trust them for any thing that walks in north America.
I have used these on my last 2 deer with 20 gauge through my savage 220, both stopped before exiting do to hitting bone and as you said both had zero weight loss other than the tip. This sabot is extremely accurate as well achieving sub MOA and 2"-3" groups at 300 yards. Funny thing, I didn't realize or expect the 12g projectile to be the same size as the 20g it is also 50 cal but only 275gr.. That must be a hell of a thick wad in the 12. Wall thickness on the 20 is .080.
Great demonstration and excellent presentation. Very informative. Anyone have experience shooting this slug in a smooth bore? Thanks for the hard work Buff.
As of Dec., 2024, Federal has these listed as discontinued, currently unavailable. If you want them, better start looking in stores. Another example of: If you find something you like, buy a lifetime supply. They're going to stop making it.
That's quite an impressive little round there. A little on the expensive side, but that should be right in alignment with some muzzleloader components and probably more effective.
Good group, good marksmanship, good expansion. Not so good price. But you get what you pay for. Have to get me some of that ballistic water to run some tests. Thanks for so many videos over the years and a Happy New Year to you and your loved ones.
My friend, thanks for testing. It would be interesting to test it in a smooth bore. With and without a rifeled choke. I have a semi auto mag fed 12 gauge and use it over distances of 20 yards (buck) with slugs only. With a red dot and 2x magnifier i am around 2 moa and 200 yards is my absolute max distance i use this gun for. The groupe opens up over 150 yards. But at 200 yards 3 moa is no trick with even a smooth bore and cheap slugs. I think the better balistics might make it useable over 200 yards. The effective expansion is amazing. Maybe you'll test that setting for us. At distance of 300-400 yards. The higher production numbers should lower the price and you should make a contract with the manufacturer. Your fan from South América.
My very first thought was,''' That's a Federal Borlokt muzzleloader slug''. With the bottom shank/lock part cut off. And the expansion in that ''Ballistic tap water'', was about identical to what the Borelokt muzzleloader bullet does out of a .50. At very nearly the same velocity. It must be an expensive bullet to make, because it sure is an expensive bullet to buy, running around $30.00 per card of fifteen, IF, you can even find them. They seem to always be out of stock everywhere. Not the most accurate bullet out there, but good enough for deer at moderate ranges and they are a real stopper. That should be a very good shotgun slug.
I have two Mossberg 500's, a 20 & a 12ga. Both have rifled barrels. I've used the Hornady SST Sabot slugs in both of them with much success. I swear the 20ga with a scope mounted is like a rifle out to 175-200 yds. Not cheap though, currently about $3.00 +/-.
Hi Buffalo, forget rifle for big game, this would be my new first choice. I'm astounded to see this demonstration. Nice to see you again I've got the 88 w/reddot minus the rifled barrel, love it. All the best to you and the family in 2024. "The JJ" SW Penna.

Happy new year! Thanks for all the help you've given me.

TFM...I like your videos, but you should spend more time reviewing ammunition we can actually buy and use. The oddball, homemade stuff is entertaining, but really useless information.
Show me things I can buy and use.
Happy new Year Buffalo🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Have Buffalo join yall some day.
That slug is a dang thing of beauty 😊
“Ballistic tap water”. Love it
"Ballistic Tap Water" LOL!!! I'll be stealing that saying... That slug performed beautifully in the jugs, perfect!
Haha! It's that ky water treatment process!
Wow, these slugs performed beautifully. I think i might go buy a box or two.
I'm going to get some more as well.
Buy one box of each type you find. You need to see which type YOUR shotgun likes 👍
They are what I have exclusively went to for my maverick 88. I have found that the 3 inch groups better for mine, even though it's only a slight increase in speed. "quite expensive" is an understatement! LOL thats $5 a shot! But, I cant deny it looks like a good round.
👍👍Freedom is the greater good is one of my favorite sayings now thanks to you. Those slugs looked pretty impressive, appreciate everything you do thanks Buffalo and hope your 2024 is awesome.
I'm glad you have a good source of ballistic tap water. It seemed to work really well with those ballistic jugs.
That's a heck of a round.
It sure is. Thanks for stopping by man!
Squirrel gun RIG !!!
about time ya bring one on the channel this year😂.
👍🐿👍
It's so cool how regular people can just now own and use the kind of cameras that get THAT kind of amazing slowmo capture of such high energy, high speed events
M'boy.... I've watched a lot of your videos. You are a trigger squeezing sonagun! Nice group as always.
3:40 That's nice how you bring the chronograph and target views forward without compromising the view from where you're shooting, I saw the video when you first got the slug gun and you had to go check if you hit every time this is much better :)
Glad you like that. It's more work on the editing side but I think it's worth it.
Yup. First video of yours I've watched, and I definitely like that.
Aaaannd as I type this, you blew up those jugs in slo mo. Like that too!
Big fan of solid copper
No, Buffalo, thank you! Love your stuff! OG has his own channel now. I love it. ❤
@redfaux74 I know! I forgot to include that, thank you, I will 'edit' that immediately!
That was a perfectly done demonstration. I have left here with no questions. And enjoyed some of your time very much. Good stuff as always Buff. 👍👍🙏
Looks like a muzzle loader bullet in a sabot.
Good shootin!

My favorite gun channel for sure.
I wish I could support more myself
Happy New Year! You are supporting by watching and commenting and I appreciate it!
Buffalo, your videography is just outstanding. Great job. I always look forward to your next video. Thanks. Happy new year.
Great shooting and great presentation as always. looking forward to watching more of the same in 2024.

Starting a new year with the ol buffalo!
Happy New Year, Buffalo!
Happy new year Buffalo
STR8 out the tap ! The best stuff...now i need to get a slug barrel for the 870 !
Happy New Year Buffalo
Those are what i keep on the sidesaddle for my mav!😄

Ballistic test water, that's awesome. That is great expansion. Very impressive 👍
No buffalo thank you missing some of your older videos man about 10 years back watermelon through the wall test funny and great just like this video
Thanks again...
Good 1st for this year

Happy New Year. Thank you. God Bless and stay safe.
Always enjoy your presentations
👍😊 they work.
👍
Super cool video! Happy New Year!
Expensive, but Impressive ! You could make Jewelry with the spent slugs and recoup your money.
I have used these on my last 2 deer with 20 gauge through my savage 220, both stopped before exiting do to hitting bone and as you said both had zero weight loss other than the tip. That ballistic tap water really made a pretty flower! Nice shooting with that mav88. Happy new year!!!
Just get a saddle mount, because that gun is shooting great. You could also get a spring kit to help the trigger too.
Great demonstration and excellent presentation. Very informative. Anyone have experience shooting this slug in a smooth bore? Thanks for the hard work Buff.

Awesome!

nice video. pretty sure you'd bring home the venison with that combo. Happy New Year - may we all be blessed this year
Happy New Year Buffalo's outdoors and Blessings to the Family and y'all out there 🙏❗
😎🤙
Happy New Year
God bless
Excellent video. You almost had an auto ejecting configuration in the sled.
Hey Buffalo, Happy New Year to you as well!
It's long past time that they made good large caliber. expanding bullets !!!
Merry Christmas and happy new year buffalo!!!
Impressive results. That slug expanded perfectly. 👍
All the best to you and yours in 2024 Buffalo .....
Hey buddy. Great video as usual. Saw this last night on Patreon. You do the best breakdowns I've seen. Love watching your videos.
Thanks so much. I actually have some Patreon only videos coming so keep an eye out for those.
I'm looking forward to it. I got the email last night about this video and was like Oooooo yes! Lol. Happy New Year Buffalo!
Good group, good marksmanship, good expansion. Not so good price. But you get what you pay for. Have to get me some of that ballistic water to run some tests. Thanks for so many videos over the years and a Happy New Year to you and your loved ones.
Very informative. You don't always need a large sample when results are clear, e.g. does a parachute save lives.
For a second I thought you were shooting that round out of a smooth bore barrel… I was like he good. Good shooting Good video
My friend, thanks for testing. It would be interesting to test it in a smooth bore. With and without a rifeled choke.

Nice group, 1800+ FPS from a 12 gage.
In a word RESPECT
Happy New Year 🎉, looking forward to seeing more videos

perfect for deer here in australian thick scrub, we get the federal premium stuff hopefully this turns up. Adler B220 is my shotgun
Hope you have a wonderful new year.
I need me one of the slug barrels very impressive performance thank you for the video
Good channel, far better than the larger ones.
Good stuff as always Buff. 👍👍
First off, Happy New Year Buffalo. That group at 50 yards is excellent. Thanks.
Thank you for keeping on!
Glad to be here man! I always appreciate you stopping by!
Buffalo. Good way to start off the new year with an interesting shotgun slug. Thanks for sharing. Take care and Happy New Year to you also. Take care.
Thank you!
My buddy Joe has the same maverick 88 he has good luck with it every year
Gotta find out where to get me some "ballistic tap water"
Great and fun channel
Thanks
Happy new year brother!😊😊😊😊
Hi Buffalo, forget rifle for big game, this would be my new first choice. I'm astounded to see this demonstration. Nice to see you again I've got the 88 w/reddot minus the rifled barrel, love it. All the best to you and the family in 2024. "The JJ" SW Penna.
That is definitely a pretty mushroom.👍👍 Happy New Year to you too.
Thanks 👍it sure did!
Wow thats some very impressive numbers on that box
Happy New Year!🎉
Oh, Lawdy!, I bet that had to hurt! Rest In Peace Card Board, And Milk Jugs.,
Buffalo, I have looked everywhere for that ballistic tap water. No one around here sells it.😅
Pretty impressive
Happy and healthy new year, thank you for your videos and the way you do your videos.👊🏻🇺🇸
