- To change the wifi the nest cams connect to you have to factory reset them.
What you'll need:
Nest Cam + magnetic plate
Charging cable (plugged in)
QR code
Pen, paperclip, small screwdriver, etc
Phone with google home app
Remove the camera from the moutning plate and press and hold the reset
button on the back for 12 seconds.
After 12 seconds the camera will make a jingle. Keep holding the button
until the jingle ends.
Place the camera back on the magnetic mount. After the light goes off
plug in the charger.
When the camera boots up you will see a solid blue light on the front and
hear it jingle again.
In the google home app, tap the name of the camera that is offline.
Tap the settings gear in the top right of the screen
Tap "remove device" at the bottom of the page. Tap remove again on the
popup.
Tap the "+" symbol in the top left of the screen.
Tap "Set up device".
Tap "New Device".
Tap the name of the home you're adding the camera to, then press "next".
On the "what are you setting up screen, tap "camera". Then select the nest outdoor/
indoor battery.
Scan the QR code if you have it. IF not, press "continue without scanning".
(if you scan the QR code, setup is automatic)
Press "continue without scanning" and enter the setup code located at the
bottom of the camera
Once you have it typed in, press "next" and select the picture of the camera
you are installing and press "next".
Press "continue" and accept Googles terms of sercie, privacy guidlines, etc.
On the "help improve" screen, I press "no thanks". Just my personal preference.
Press next until it asks you where you are putting the camera. Select indoors
or outdoors.
The screen will say "connecting" at the top, then
it will search for wifi networks. When it shows the
list of wifi networks, select your network
Press "next" and type in your password, then
press "next" again.
The camera will make 1 final jingle when it
connects.
Select the room the camera is in, press next.
Position the camera where you want it and press "next".
Select how you will mount the camera and press
"next"
Select which surface you will install it on. I'm
selecting "already installed". Press "next".
It will ask to position the camera again. Press
"next" on this screen and the next two.
On this screen, you can choose to turn video
recording or not. I don't for this tutorial.
On the next screen you can choose to turn on the
microphone. If you want to talk to people through
the camera, turn this on.
On these following screens, it will ask to set up
home and away rules, and Nest aware. If you want
these services, go ahead and set them up.
Press "next" to skip the video on the app.
Press "done" to finish
Select your camera from the list to view it.
google needs to feature this video on this platform
I completely agree.
Seriously!!! I spent over an hour to connect 2 cameras. It took me 15 minutes to connect them by watching this video !! Thank you so much !!!!
EXACTLY!!
@@lesliemartinez7405it was crazy easy wasn’t it? I didn’t know to wait for tone on reset before watching video. After watching video I also manually set the code vs scanning code-It was SO easy! So thankful for this video!
I tried to set-up my Google Nest Cam on my new Wifi network. Nothing I tried worked, I spoke with one of Googles support agents and they couldn’t help either, because the device was only 2 months old, they sent me another device. I’m sure once they receive my old device, someone with enough knowledge will be able to sort the issue out. The support agent went through something similar but this guy seems like he knows what he’s talking about.
You would think between Google , Nest and TH-cam they'd figure out away to reconnect the Wi-Fi codes without having to dismantle the cameras that are mounted 30 feet in the air. Have to rent a cherry picker to fix the effin problem that's pure craziness.
I feel that one.
I had to pay to have someone take mine down as well. Ridiculous!
Makes me want to switch systems!
Yep not far off for me too. This is the dumbest set up ever right?!?! I am about to have to climb onto a wet roof to sort out one of my cameras.
mass hysteria indeed
this was just perfect, 5seconds from google instructions does not work, use the 12sec and wait for sound, then plug your solar or usb cable then wait for second sound, the app will then FINALLY find your cam
THANK YOU A BUNCH
I was going crazy. I think your the only video I watched that said magnetic mount was needed. Thank you sir 🎉🎉
After reading the comments I had a good laugh at all our frustrations and how this video solved it in seconds.
It appears most of us didn’t know to wait for the tone while holding reset button.
Yeah, I'm quite surprised they don't mention it in the instructions. Glad you got it up and running!
Other videos not so helpful. 100 ms or less view of the steps on the app. That's nuts, and you did a great job showing people how simple it really is. Thank you!
Man I just wasted two hours trying to reset the Nest cams following the instructions on the Nest help center.. they say to push the reset button 5 seconds... never mentioned the little noise that has to occur... i even reinstalled the app and reset the router... THANK YOU!!
😂😂😂😂 I know!
Thanks so much. You’re a life saver. I hate that we can’t just connect from an app.
Same!
Sucks that you have to reset each camera if you have more than one just because you changed your password
I know, but thankfully this video shows how to get it done quickly.
Only guy on the whole net, that got it right! THANK YOU!
😂😂. I know, it’s crazy! These cams should not be difficult to run. No Google tech person ever helped so much. Why can’t they print something so simple?
Thank you! I should have tried this right away--the HELP feature on the nestcam app is useless. Thank you so much for making it so simple!
"You know, I feel so lucky to have you as my coach. You always know just what to say to motivate me and keep me on track. Thank you for being such an amazing support system!"
Great video I love it!! besides that curse you Google for having 50 steps just to change your network 😩😩
facts. im irritated. I have to get on my ladder and take the camera down from above my garage.
For over a week I have been trying to reconnect the cameras to the Home App. This video is great - I followed the instructions and manage to finally connect the cameras to the App. Thank you.
😂😂I know! I have new Wi-Fi and so happy this video is here!
Google needs to pay you for this video. This video saved me from breaking my two nest cameras. Thank you so much!
Glad you got them up and running! One day I'll get that Google $$ 😂
Oh man, Exactly!! They need to pay him!!!
@@SaltyTechSupportYou Better! I had a set of these from a Dish supplier and told him I don’t think our internet is fast enough. Well, I tried to get them running with a Google Tech and they had me trying Everything-If someone would have told me how many bites they took I could have saved us all trouble. I sent them back.
Now, we recently have high speed internet and I repurchased them as they are a great clear camera and sensitive to motion from Far away even. I like you can set for people and cars-not birds and spiders. Well I also recently updated a router and needed to do the dreadful task of resetting the cameras.
I deleted cameras, but didn’t know to wait for tone while pushing reset pin. I also was scanning QR and changed to manually entering-OMG! It was so easy!! Nothing will work without that tone playing first and the 3rd tone was music to my ears! Thank You Very Much! Why can’t Google put instructions out in plain English?
I can’t begin to tell you HOW HAPPY I am to find your video!!!
My thoughts Exactly that you should get compensated from Google!! WELL DONE!!
Excellent video. No fluff, right to the point. Thank you
Thank you soooo much for this video. I couldn't get my internet connection to recognize the second camera. I followed your steps of resetting the camera and it allowed me to select the appropriate internet connection. Worked great!!!!
This is the video I was looking for I was having trouble with the QR Code I tried resetting and realized the white light wasn’t turning blue I saw how yours turned blue did the same thing and that fixed my issue after months of my cameras not working thank you so much for the help!
Wow, this is alot of steps just to change the wifi network. Thank you for the video.
In case this happens to anyone else, I couldn’t get my wired cameras to reset following these instructions. I was adding the new camera in as a wired camera. As soon as I tried entering it in as a battery camera, everything in this video worked! My cameras are hard wired, but I could not add them back in under a hard wired camera 🤷🏻♀️
This is one of the best instructional, video’s I have ever watched. Thanks
Happy to help!
Sadly for updating wifi, my camera(s) are mounted high on the house so getting at them to manually reset is not an option. The only trick I could think of was to set the new router wifi setting to the same as was the old router. That works but Nest really needs to think of a better way. Like accessing wifi setting in the camera display and allowing wifi setting to be changed on screen. The cam will drop off the old and show up on the newly updated.
Agreed!
Same problem camera and cable mounted high can't get to it, stuck now with new Wi-Fi provider and can't get it to work, all my other devices can be do on phone app, get with it NEST
This is a good idea.
THANK YOU!! so much ive been screwing with this for hours following googles instructions, they dont tell you to hold the button down for 12 seconds, had it connected about 12 seconds after doing that.
Can’t believe how many times I’ve read this and it happened to me also!! There ain’t nothing happening if you don’t hear that tone!😂😂😂
Thank you so much ! I was sitting for over 2 hours trying to get it reconnected .
Amazing instructions! @google you need to add this. Great job
Thank you! 100% agree!
Thank you again for this video. Every time we have an outage I need this video to get my cameras back online.
Thanks Pal, I was on the threshold of a nervous breakdown. I've saved a link to this page because I'm sure I'll need to do it again one day, but most likely it will be at a time when I will have forgotten the procedure. Thanks again.
No problem, glad to help!
😂😂 You said it 😂😂
Thanks for this. I bought a few second hand camera and had one that wouldn't reset. Putting it on the mount did the trick.
THANK YOU!!!! This helped me so much. 2 hours of fighting with it, and then I find your video... OMFG! EASY!! Thank you!
Happy to help!
😂😂
You sir, are a lifesaver
Thanks guy ive been trying to fix this for about a month now and yours is the first video that has helped
Happy to help!
Thanks for this!! I recently moved and was pulling my hair out trying to figure out how to reconnect my camera. Subscribed to your channel!
Thanks for the sub, glad it helped!
Thank you this helped :D Sucks you have to remove and re add it for new WiFi but this did the trick thanks! 🙏🏼
Great instructions. Worked for me perfectly on my indoor nest battery camera. Thanks!
THOUSAND THUMBS UP!!! 🎉🎉
Ugh! Have new Wi-Fi and tried everything-reloaded App and deleted previous cameras to reset. What I didn’t know was to wait for that tune the camera plays while pushing reset pin and I used the QR Codes on the camera and did not scan.
There are 3 tones total- one upon initial push of tiny reset pin on camera, 2nd when you release pin and hook to electric and after entering code manually and following instructions on phone the 3rd Beautiful Sound that it is Done!!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
Thanks to this video, it’s super helpful! I finally reset my cameras and have them work😂
Omg, I know, I’m 😂 because this video answered EVERYTHING! I would still be sitting here grumbling all because I didn’t hold the reset pin long enough for the tone. 😅😅
You are amazing!! Thank you so much I was so frustrated.
IT WORKED 😀. Thank so much for sharing. By the way great DIY video.
I have to uninstall all my cameras and do this whole annoying procedure to every one? Damn this camera system sucks.
I’m going through the same thing
@@juandavila8199 I solved my problem. I put the exact same router name and password into the new router and it worked! Try that!
Very, very helpful! Thank you!
Mucahs gracias, he mirado muchos videos y este video funciona, importante los pasos a seguir del principio, Muchas gracias !
Great video, saved me a lot of time… Thank you!
Thank you! This definitely helped!
Omg it worked! Thank you. Greatly appreciated!
this was very helpful......thank you
Perfect…Many Thanks!
Thanks you just helped me a lot 🙂🙂
the only helpful vid ive found thank you so much!!!!!
You are a life saver!!!
You are Google nest MVP! Thank you!
This video saved my but. THANK YOU.
Very helpful thanks!
You make it sound so simple. It isn’t..instead of simply recognising the new WiFi we have had to remove the device and reinstall on both our phones, going through the same interminable exercise both times. Once completed, which ever phone we are pairing immediately knocks out the other one. For a so-called quality product this is really really bad. Absolute nightmare.
thank you ! thank you! so clear!
Thank you ...thank you... thank you this was sooooooooooooooo EASY!!!!!!!!!!🤯
That worked! Thank you!
Thank you so much 👍😃
Thanks alot. Geezus seems like that would make simpler...
Do I have to reset the button, because when I plug in the camera in the power the blue light came up. So do I still need to reset the button.
Thanks mate!
Thanks a lot for this. Google’s own documentation is useless for this camera.
Thank you!
it worked😃
excellent job
Awesome, Brother.🙏🙏👍👍
I subscribed and rang the bell.
Always appreciated!
thank you
For 2nd generation wired cameras, the reset works only when it’s plugged in. Everything else remains the same.
Thanks for that! Can't believe how stupid google's devs are that you must do this to update a wifi password.
I know you made this video sometime ago but I could do with some help. I have the same camera as you but I do not have code to log into new network. Is there a third way to ID the camera.
The code should be printed on the camera just like in the video. Sometimes it's hard to see, but hopefully it didn't become faded. As far as I know, I don't know of any way to add the camera without the QR code or the code printed on the camera itself.
Thanks
Thanks for the video!
Would love to be able to change wifi while the cameras are online but they aint that smart :/ Dump AF you need to demount the cameras outdoors and the maunt it self to be able to change the damn wifi.. :/
Thank you that was very helpful, great job. Damn I was about to throw it at a wall lol.
I had issues connecting my Google Nest Cam to my new WiFi network, customer support couldn’t help so Google sent me a new one as it was only 2 months old and still within warranty. I’ll hang onto the video incase something similar happens in the future and the device is out of warranty.
What if you dont have the charging cord anymore.I have 3 cameras all outside. The tech i talked to said it would be around $100 to come out and fix it.
That's a tough one. I've seen home depot sell the nest charging cables for about $15 each online. You can probably find them cheaper elsewhere, but beware!
Tried and failed a number of times, the trick, as you showed, is to keep holding the reset button until after the sound finishes. A different video was not explicit on this
😂😂😂 THAT IS IT EXACTLY!! I didn’t know to wait for sound. Thankfully I found this video!
Best video yet.
So basically, start over.
Genius
life saver
If I have multiple devices, do I need to remove all of them before reconnecting?
Tried doing one and kept getting the something went wrong error.
Unfortunately, yeah.
From what I recall, I used to be able to get the "something went wrong" error to stop by turning off bluetooth on your phone. The app is either going to ask you to turn it on, or proceed without it. If it forces you to turn it back on, do so and try to re-add the device.
Hope this helps!
@@SaltyTechSupport Thank you, will try again and hopefully it goes well. Glad that you've made such an easy to follow video!
@@wonyoungsflag Hope it helps!
Has anyone tried these steps recently? I just tried now, and I still can't get it to connect. My devices skip finding the new network (or rather says it's connecting to the network) and tries to connect the device.. then fails. Can anyone help? I'm trying to connect my outdoor cams to a TP Link Mesh Wifi Deco X55. Thanks.
I tried again. This time, I stead of using the QR code, I entered in the camera code from the under side (like in the video), and it WORKED! Thanks so much!!!!
Sometimes if that happens, it could mean that the camera is trying to connect to your phone via bluetooth to use the phone as a bridge. I'm glad you got it working!
Why you say to remove device if my new camera has never been in my cellphone. Do I have to do this step. Shouldn't be just add device?
If it's new (if it's never been in your cell phone) you can add the device and just scan the QR code or enter the code on the bottom. Most of this video only applies if you made any wifi changes and need to get your camera on your new network.
Do you have to do this for EVERY camera? Two of my cameras are mounted outside high up under eaves, and three more inside for dog cams + doorbell cam. I don’t have the QR code cards anymore. Also, why isn’t this easier?
Yeah, every camera. If anything they're a good advertisement for PoE cams!
It is a pain, but thankfully this guy knows how to do it. You don’t need to scan the code. I manually entered the code from each camera. Might need a magnifying glass to see them or take a picture and zoom.
What can I do when my camera will not reset?? I have tried to push in the reset button (for over 30 secs) but I don't think the button is working. I do not "feel" the button being connected?
have this issue with two cameras that I am changing Routers. Thanks.
do you have them plugged in while press the reset button? Do you see any lights on the front like in the video?
Cameras with low charge take longer time to hear the tone.
Bro just come across this video and now about to try it & see if it helps me,for some reason my nest cam still records & you can see what iv recorded “only the last 3 hours as it’s not hard wired in” but i can’t see nothing LIVE it says it’s off line,iv tried disconnecting the router then turning the WiFi back on but nothing still,so going to try this will report back if it worked,it also asked me for a 4 digit code but unsure what that was
Yeah that's definitely strange. I would go out to the camera while your phone is connected to wifi and run a speed test just to see what you're getting out there. 5mbps up and down should be fast enough to handle the camera.
@@SaltyTechSupportI believe each google cam takes 1.5 upload speed.
why do you need the mounting magnet can you do it with out?
You can try, but it does make it harder, I think.
thank you my cameras are outside and I think I may need wi fi extenders
@@SaltyTechSupport
what a pain in the ass, i have 12 cameras on my property, some are up high and will need a ladder to remove each......i thought to change wifi, it would just be a setting on nest/home account
I have nest wired camera indoor 2nd generation,i cannt find the button that you pressed,i just have a small hole that i pressed with a safety needle, nothing changed, the camera on the home appremain offline n the light is green on the camera, what shall i do?
The indoor wired cam isn't the same as the one I reset in the video. Here's some tips from google on how to reset your camera:
Locate the reset hole on the bottom of the camera head. It’s between the power cord and the camera neck.
Insert a paper clip, thumbtack or similar into the hole. Press and hold down.
At 10 seconds, the status light will blink yellow four times, and you’ll hear a countdown tone.
At 12 seconds, the status light will be solid yellow. When the camera begins resetting, you’ll hear a confirmation tone.
Release the button. Your camera will restore to its factory settings.
After the factory reset, your camera will appear as “Offline” in the app until you remove it.
Hope it helps!
That was helpful,thank you
@@marinaaniram8814 No problem!
Having to go thru all this, I may as well switch my system…
My camera never makes the chime noise…. I held it longer than 12 seconds…. What am I doing wrong?
I've seen some of the current gen cameras that may not make a chime noise. If you hold it longer than 12 seconds, go through the rest of the steps in the video and let me know if it lets you reset it. 👍
My App looks similar and is not behaving like that. This thing is a nightmare to setup. I am going to un-install then reinstall and hope it goes better.
My app still does not look like that. Further more, there are more choices to the type of camera. Once I chose mine and opt to type in the code, it:
1 - The code has a character which could be a zero or "O" - I tried both.
2 - It notified me that I will need both power and my wifi password.
3 - The next step, it told me that I will need to choose the last four of the serial number and then did nothing -
4 - So I'm just stuck at this place where the camera and app just does absolutely nothing - and I mean NOTHING .
5 - So I found the QR code and used it. Next it had me download another app with the same name?
6 - OK fine, only then did this damn thing start to work.
Why did they make this so freaking complicated, and why isn't that thing about the button not in any of the documentation... Yea - yea I know, what documentation?
And why are there so many apps when all I need is one?
Glad you got it working!
i painted my nestcam and cant see the code and dont have qr code, now what
Now you call and try to get a refund.
You might get lucky and have the setup code be the last 6 characters of the camera's mac address, but I'm just grasping at straws here.
My wifi lost will not come up, all the other steps are on point. But can't get wifi list
I'd force quit the app and try again. Might want to give your phone a restart too just for good measure.
This will remove camera video history. Is there a way to change wifi without removing history?
No, but you can always download the videos you want to keep, before you reset the camera.
It was much easier with the Nest App. I wonder why the new devices can not use Nest App which is still much better ..Actually I use both apps for my old Nest cameras and Nest is first choice of viewing.@@SaltyTechSupport
I switched WiFi company’s and I don’t have the QR CODE help
I add it without the qr code in the video.
@@SaltyTechSupportI think using the code off the camera is best, no guessing.
What if the pin number isn't by the cord
Then I really hope you've got that QR code.
No,it was given to me, friend died, cancer
All that to change wifi password? That sucks.
you're telling me!
Need a TH-cam video to get this working. Wtf is Google doing?
Great video! Like and subscribe, Done!!
Thanks for the Sub!
