  • EVERYTHING You Need With Google's Nest Camera Battery || Unbox, Setup, Review
    The new Nest Camera Battery version from Google is quite the smart home security camera, and today I'm going to unbox the Nest Camera, setup the Nest Camera, review it, walk you through the different settings in the Google Home application, plus show you some comparisons for image quality on the Nest Camera.
    The Nest Camera is $179 USD, and there are some accessories you might need. Nest Aware is a consideration too, and I'll show you why during our Nest Camera Battery install and during setup.
    I'll give you all the details you'll need with the installation of your Nest Camera, including some of those little tricks and tips you'll need for Nest Camera setup. I'll show you some of those spots you can install the Nest Camera, and where it works well (and doesn't work well).
    If you're considering one, here's an affiliate link to purchase it: bit.ly/3oveWt3
    I've been finding the image quality to be really good on this new Nest Cam from Google, but you'll want to see it before you believe it. I did some testing with the night vision, as well as the microphone, speaker, and the power cables and connections for this Nest Camera coming out in 2021. This is a comprehensive review, and I'm hoping this is everything you need.
    If you have any of the following questions about the new Nest Camera being released in 2021, you're in luck:
    - Do I get everything I need in the box?
    - What do I get in the Nest Camera box?
    - How do I setup the Nest Camera?
    - Where can I mount the Nest Camera?
    - Will I need an extension cable?
    - What is the image quality like on the Nest Camera?
    - How strong is the magnet?
    - Does the Nest Camera work well?

    Lots of people wondering about a few features on the Nest Cameras. Guess what? Google's even made a blog post about some upcoming features. From: www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Blog/New-Cameras-and-Google-Home-app/ba-p/4632
    Camera Experiences to Look Forward to
    There are a few things we’ve been working on (and will continue to) as we know there’s much more you’d like to see and do in the Home app. Our team is actively working on a plan to bring other Nest devices into the Home app and we’ll share more later. Some of our upcoming features are:
    - A new home on the web. This has been an important feature request, so we’re developing a new Google Home on Web for the new Nest cameras and doorbell allowing users to view their cameras on the Web. This will be coming in 2022.
    - Improved Video Seeking. We are continuing to improve sightline 2.0 so we can help you quickly review and discover events your cameras recorded. This will be coming later this year.
    - Holiday Ringtones. Holiday ringtones continue to be one of our most beloved and most requested features and we’re excited to bring them to the Google Home app for Nest Doorbell (battery). This will be coming later this year.

    A lot of people are comparing this against typical wired cameras, this is a 100% wireless camera that runs off batteries and can record (for a bit) without WIFI!
    This should be compared to Arlo Pro, Blink Outdoor, or Ring stick up. I have a Blink and this blows it away, but over all seems the features and prices fits nicely in this market of BATTERY operated cameras.
    Being battery powered its awesome it comes with a magnetic mount to easily pull down and recharge and great it also can be hard mounted. I am curious how video quality and battery life compare to the higher res Arlo battery powered cameras.
    I am excited for the Nest Cam with flood and surprised they don't (yet) have an Outdoor IQ replacement option

    • @AutomateYourLife
      @AutomateYourLife  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I really wish I'd had an Arlo battery version to teat this against. You saw it against the Wyze Cam Outdoor there at the end...and it's way better than that.
      I like a lot about it now and I don't think there's anything wrong with what Google has done. Also, if I know them...there's another IQ replacement on the way.
      I'm happy!

    Lower resolution, no compatibility with the nest app, less weather proofing, more susceptible to theft, cheaper materials
    …this is several step backwards all for the sake of a slightly lower “entry” price (if you don’t buy all the accessories). Hard pass 😒 Thanks for the review though!

      Totally agree with this Jacques... I expected a lot more from Google. Not sure what's going on over there. The biggest 2 for me are the power cord design flaw and the no backwards compatibility with Nest App. Crazy they would do this.

      @nadeemshaikh7863 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@michaelgardner9336 I think it makes absolute sense to ditch the nest app and streamline the operation of the entire nest ecosystem of products into one app. Yeah, the Google Home app seems to be too bloated and the branding would have to be consistent ie 'Google Nest' but I think the decision makes absolute sense, especially from a long term and newer customer's perspective.

    GREAT and thorough review! Appreciate it!
    A quick question: I'm on the fence between this new one and the original Nest outdoor camera. If the new Nest cam is 100% plugged in all the time, does it behave like any other Nest cam with Nest Aware? Can I just open the app and view a live stream? Or does it behave like when it is in battery mode and only show events?
    Also, how confident are you in the USB extension workaround for the $39 power cable?

    • @AutomateYourLife
      @AutomateYourLife  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Don't put that USB extension outdoors Mark. Please. Get the official Google one or wait for someone to build a proper adapter. If you're indoors, sure! I did it and it's no problem. I had an older extension cable but tried it for days and had zero issues.
      If it's plugged in, you can see the stream live whenever you jump into the app. If it's on battery, you have an extra button to press in app to see the live stream. So it's great that way. No Nest Aware required for that, FYI.

    • @marklabonte2925
      @marklabonte2925 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AutomateYourLife Haha, I wasn't planning on it :) This cam would be mounted just above my garage door exterior. The cable would be run to the garage INTERIOR and plug into the ceiling outlet shared with my garage door opener, so no exposure to the elements for the USB extension whatsoever. The charge cable is a weird angle. I noticed it had 4 pins, but there are 6 on the camera. Wonder what the other two are for.
    The audio is really good, and the compression and way it handles loud sounds is really good. Looks like they are using some of the auto leveling technology that has been introduced on TH-cam lately. I hope being so big means it has decent battery life.

    I know you talked about latency but my question is ...when in battery mode, how quickly does it begin recording an object that it detects? Is it almost instantaneous or is there a significant delay. Some cameras dont start recording until a fast moving person has run in and out of its field of view which renders the camera useless. So based on what you have seen, could you give some thoughts on that? Will it record a person immediately who comes into view or is there a few seconds delay? and how do you rate that aspect of the camera (again, in battery mode) vs others? Thanks for another great video and for being our guinea pig for these new products :P just kidding...really appreciated the work and thorough review. cheers.

They manage backlighting so much better than their previous version of cameras. The night vision is excellent too.
      I just don't have any quality complaints, and I thought I would. It's no 4K video feed though right? 1080p, but that's going to be enough for our eyes. It's just the zooming in to objects/people far away that this impacts.

      Official line from Google:
      Nest Cam (battery):
      ● Busy: About 1.5 mos battery life (about 20 - 25 recorded events per day)
      ● Typical: About 3 mos battery life (about 9 - 12 recorded events per day)
      ● Quiet: About 7 mos battery life (about 2 - 4 recorded events per day)

      You know, it's weird but it's not toooo bad. I was shocked initially, but it doesn't actually affect most mounting scenarios. Still weird.

    Google: No brain as usual. Was it so hard to make the base a wireless charger? Who do you think has the will to climb a ladder every two month?!?

    Well it seems great but can’t be used with the nest app, therefore it’s pointless.

      You must have had a LOT of activations! Maybe try some filtering Lee. Mine's still going strong from the time of review, but I don't have a ton of activations (85%).

    The battery drains fast and after 15days Google will not refund or replace

      Try and adjust your settings and maybe check that it's in a good wifi connection area. Test a few days near your router and see if it's different
