For sure, this is a proper descendant of the original Escape. But it seems to be much smaller than I expected, can't wait to see in person to judge for myself. I liked my original Escape because of the 70 cubic feet of cargo capacity with the seats down.

@@James-il3tq We have a 21 explorer, seems they fixed a lot of the issues they had with the 20s. I think it’s less of full reliability, and more the overall price you are spending on the vehicle. A lot these fords are in many cases more than the competition which shouldn’t be the case. We have family that owns a dealership so going with the explorer beat any car imaginable in terms of affordability. But if it was all my money, ya I would have to turn to Toyota, honda, Mazda, etc. Heck, there are Lincoln’s that are the same price as a lot of fords which is a good option

@Charles Bue Thanks for your thoughts. I am a former Land Rover owner who knows many other former LR owners. And even have lived in Great Britain for a number of years. LR's have a great mystique and are unique. But unfortunately they are poorly engineered, with parts from suppliers that are also built to less than industry standards. Stuff fails, and at at a rate higher than entry level vehicles from manufacturers of many countries. Yes LR's can be kept on the road - if one has many, many thousands of dollars, euros, pounds or yen to spare - AND TIME. At some point the lack of reliability (which is easily documented by ALL automotive magazines on all continents Haha!), dependability and the cost to own outside of the purchase price just outweigh their uniqueness to drive. It's hard to imagine the number of owners it's had who finally just gave up. BMW, Ford, Tata, Now Tata with a Chinese manufacturer (Chery?). LR doesn't have many more years left. Stock up on parts now! ;)

Even ford officials were saying the new Escape was designed more for woman. I knew immediately it would not sell as well than other suv. But with the Bronco Sport they really have a winner. It is a car for men and women. Everybody nearly like it. The review are incredibly positive. It will become the best seller for Ford behind the f150 very very fast. They maybe can touch the Toyota rav4 in the second year 2022 if the user report continue to be great and the car is reliable. Right now the consumer report for the bronco sport is already really good. Ford has put a lot of effort for quality and good design they could in this small suv. We see it is a very important vehicle for them. Bronco Sport will be very successful. I am certain.

Just picked up Bronco Sport today as a loaner vehicle. One of the things I learned with the front end collision safety feature is that when snow builds up on the front of the vehicle a warning shows on the display informing you that is is not operating. It has way more buttons then I would ever need. The infotainment display is a bit out of place. It faces strait out and it should be angled more towards the driver. The response time on the infotainment screen was lagging a bit, but it was in the low 20’s out. Drove home on the interstate in snow, it held the road well and I felt confident it was stable and wasn’t going to loose traction. Lacked a bit in power, would be nice to have more horsepower. Did not drive it yet to figure out all the driving modes, “goat mode” was interesting because I couldn’t figure out whether it was is 4 wheel drive also I could drive up into my yard which had a good 6” of snow. Like I mentioned earlier, it has a lot of buttons for accessories I’m not sure I would really need. Lights were controlled by a knob and it had 4 settings (at least I believe there were 4) the issue was that I couldn’t figure out whether there were I or just the driving lights were on. The shift dial is not something I would ask for, but that could be because it was the first one I drove with the dial shifter. I have it a few more days with it, so I will see if I can figure out how to work all the accessories.

good review, but i’ll go ahead and disagree about the rotary shifter. it takes ~a week to get used to, but i love mine. the advantage is it takes a lot less space in the interior-it’s just out of the way.
also, i might be interested if the hybrid 2.5 from the escape were the base engine here. for the vast majority of consumers, that’s the best drivetrain ford has.

Agree about the rotary gear selector. Get over it Alex, join the 21st century. Big old shifter knobs make no sense with an automatic transmission. I loved the push buttons in my 64 Plymouth Fury. The floor shift automatic came along with bucket seats and then center consoles...all to look like you had a sporty manual shift. Just watch, in five years the shift lever/stick for automatics will be gone except in sports cars that still want to look like they have a manual....and good luck finding a manual transmission in five years. I spoze Alex really dislikes the new cars with buttons to control the transmission.

I was sceptical of not having a two speed transfer case until I drove a silverado with a ten speed. The first gear is very low compared to the older,4,5,&6 speeds. You'd have to be in a very tricky situation to need low range. The new ranger starts in first and skips 2nd under normal acceleration.
Side thought and loosely related, reverse with a duramax Allison combination is comicaly slow without low range. Anyone that have drove one knows what I'm referring too.

My girlfriend has the Bronco Sport on my recommendation and she loves it. Even though it is the 3cyl version it is quite nice and has plenty of go on the highway. Her dad even bought one. Ford did good with the Sport..would be cool if they offered it in manual transmission. 🤙

I have a reservation for the big Bronco, but this sure makes more sense for what I will use it for. It's all about the styling, which I think Ford nailed on the Sport and full-size. I hope they come out with a hybrid version.

  • @DaddyDan77
    @DaddyDan77 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Future Bronco owners, don't laugh at the guy in the Sport. You want to get new people into your hobby there needs to be an "entry level" option that's not "JEEP". The guy (or gal) in the Sport might be signing a note on a big Bronco 5 years down the road.

This Ford BS is quite capable and could actually be considered smaller midsized depending on the shoulder and hip room.
    Two - three things missing:
The 6 speed manual and/or 7 speed manual from its big brother with or without extra terrain option and with or without the torque vectoring.
The twist vectoring should be shared across the upper trims.

Well, a good part of that is down to Ford thinking that close to 300hp is needed in a turbo on a subcompact SUV. Strikes me that this vehicle really makes more sense as a slightly smaller-but-still-fully-usable replacement for a traditional compact SUV like a Land Rover or a V6 Jeep for someone who wants the off-roading but doesn't need as much towing capacity as in those two.

@@2004cyrus Never said the Escape was being dropped, but the original Escapes were advertised as a smaller rugged, efficient alternative to the body on frame SUVs at the time. Now it’s more of an alternative to the traditional family sedans and it’s mission is to offer something for a larger diversity of shoppers than before. On the other hand the Bronco Sport is continuing the mission of delivering good off road capabilities (for the segment) with decent on road qualities.

And that third spoke in the three-spoke wheels is always annoying while cruising on the highway - it takes away the best spot to rest your hand!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts as thoroughly as you are known for on this vehicle. I dislike when manufacturers use the Sport moniker on a smaller version of a vehicle instead of a new name. Aside from that I like this vehicle it does remind me of a mix between the 2002 Escape that I had, a Land Rover and its bigger brother Bronco.
I really would prefer a midsize truck like a Colorado especially the ZR2 trim, but have also thought if I cannot get that a subcompact or compact crossover that has some off road goodies since I love to hunt, fish 🎣, camp, kayak, other outdoor activities. Like the Trailhawk versions of the Compass and Cherokee, RAV4 Adventure, Crosstrek, Outback, now this in a Badlands trim, among a couple others.

I love the thoroughness of your reviews but when it comes to traction issues I wish that snow and ice were more components of your reviews. I realize that you live in California but those of us who live in colder climates have to battle frozen water a lot. I live on a more remote part of the northeast coast. Snow and ice in the winter, rough roads year round and sand at times. It's why Subaru is so popular here.

Was very excited for this vehicle but upon actually getting in one and feeling that it didn't feel that much bigger on the inside compared to a renegade besides the headroom which was crazy good. Then looking at the price I'd rather just get a f150 xlt with a v8 for the same price as a badlands bronco

Nice review Alex. I would take the BS (Bronco Sport, lol) over the Crosstrek to avoid the Subie's CVT. But I would also probably go with the Cherokee over the Bronco Sport due to the low-range (2 speed transfer case) in the Cherokee - but I would drive both before making the decision.
