What a superb restoration. Looks all the better for not having a tan or black vinyl roof too. My first car back in 1984 was a series 2 1600E - HTW 364H, I loved that car.
What an absolutely beautiful gorgeous stunning piece of iconic history , these cars were a dream to drive i no i had one of them, Trouble was some scroatum bag stole mine , but was lucky enough to get it back, Never felt the same about it after that , And away back then i didn't have any welding skills to speak of or a garage to restore it , Now i can mig weld to MOT standards . Quite a few years ago I made a 4 ft folding press from 100 x 100 x10 mill angle iron to replace Sills, inner wings valance panels battery box ( floor panels sill to bulkhead ) on a car that had a very low milage took me 18 months knocked the stuffing out of me , But when i took it for it's first mot in 5 years it passed with a huge compliment from the Tester . S.
Had 2 of them in 75 an 76 drove to Newquay from Manchester with my girlfriend who became my wife in that super hot summer fantastic memories of those cars and the great times back then .
I wrote my mark 2 jaguar off 1978 and my mate who owned his own garage gave me a 1600E to get to work it was the same colour as this one I ran about in that car for two years it had holes in the foot wells and when it rained the water used to splash up inside the cabin happy days this one is absolutely beautiful
It's so lovely to see these old classics brought back to life. Owned one of these myself, ''Not 1600E though 'back in the day. So thanks for bringing them back 👍
OFA 749H I still miss you!
A top job, cars better than a new one, flawless, such a classic 👌
Lovely 1600 e my mate from Webster Rd Walsall Ted Dutton had a couple back in the late 70s top car top mate 👍👍🏴🦊
It must be so fabulous to be so rich that you can afford to recreate some of the most happy things that you had when you were young! I felt just the same about my lovely Capris back then, still a Ford man now. 🙏👍
@philtucker 1969 I saw my first Ford Capri, our school caretaker bought a new one when launched, a silver I think basic 1300 correct me if I'm wrong.
But as a 12yr old it looked liked the car had come out of Thunderbirds lol 😂
As kids we thought it resembled a rocket on wheels as I recall lol 😂
No modern car takes the imagination in the motoring world now.
@@peterward3965 hi Peter! I so so agree with you buddy! Have a great Christmas 👍🎅🏼🇬🇧
@@philtucker1224 and you matey cheers
I just read this guy’s comments and totally agreed - before I saw his name (it was me) 😁
I just love that gold - you could almost swim in it ❤️
OMG - an amber gold 1600E was my absolute dream back in 1977 as an 18 year-old. I went to to build a few MK2's back in the day but would sell my kids for this one.
in 1977 i had an amber gold 1600e in mint nick !i was 19!
Now that is some resto what a beautiful motor ❤
Thank you 😊
What a beautiful car, a real classic, I love all Fords from that Era.
Fantastic result
How lovely to see, I always wanted to do car restoration but being in pub management as a career was 24/7 so no time for anything else.
Back in 1977 I was 20, my stepfather had a gold 1600E he was a Ford man, and mum drove a white standard 1500 Mk 11 Cortina saloon with a rare column change. I drove a green MK IV Zephyr saloon, big old barge that was .
Happy motoring days they were.
A stunning job! That Cortina has a better paint job than it ever had when it came out of the factory (sorry Ford).
First class job.
Thank you 😊
Stunning and stock………..1600E was always, imo, the best looker and performance wise, just under the Lotus version……
What an absolutely beautiful car,❤ such hard work gone into this stunner,,great work guy's 😉
The only car I ever truly loved and I had four of them
What a car what a restoration 👌,the first car I ever owned but mine had the black vinyl roof , great car to drive who needs power steering 😂
Amber Gold was one of the colours along with Pale Orchid, Saluki Bronze and Silver Fox that "sheared", as we called it, from the primer in thumbnail sized flakes. I was an apprentice in 1969 in a Ford dealers and we had lots of warranty re-sprays to do ..... in cellulose .... no two pck acrylic or clear over base. Metallics were a nightmare, both to apply and to match. A Zodiac 3 in Silver Fox .... the boss handed me a gallon of stripper and a brush, no gloves and said "GO!". Some might have nostalgia over Ford Metallic colours I have nausea. Soon cottoned on and purloined me mum's marigolds. Must have used 100 gallons of water with sodium bicarbonate mixed in to neutralise the hydrochloric acid.It would have been quicker to sand the old paint off but the boss knew best.
Yes - my Father bought a very early MK2 Cortina new in 1967 finished in Blue Mink metallic that the paint virtually fell off
Light Orchid (pink) is my favourite 1600e colour, I had 2,
STR 314H where are you now?
Nitramores stripper comes to mind, pretty toxic back then.
I was an apprentice at a Ford dealer too, Painting individual panels were difficult as you couldn't use masking tape on the good paint with fear the paint would come off when you removed the masking's, we would trap masking paper in doors etc.
I loved 1600E's in Saluki Bronze, Light Orchid, Amber Gold, Aubergine and Aquatic Jade, I think Amber Gold may have been the most popular colour.
My Dad had a basic 2 door Cortina 1300 in Ermine white, what a car, so fast off the mark.
Ford used a purple metallic on mid 70's 1300E Escorts, I cant remember the name, can you?
love it , I had a 1600E lotus MKII cortina , lots of attention , always got me to where I want to go but not back again !
This is what they mean.....better than new !
Had 3 mk2s silver 1500,gold e,an a red e,.Happy motoring memories in Soi 9971
What a beauty love these cars
Now that is perfection. Subscribed.
Thank you 😊
Had one best car ever owned.
Superb! Am I strange for finding this 1600E every bit as appealing as a DB4 or an E Type? Be that as it may, I do!
👌🏻Agreed,
I’m with you on that Ralph 😊😊
Maybe it's because you / we can relate to it ?
Maybe it is strange, but I agree. I could never own an Aston or E-Type, but I did own one like this
Absolutely gorgeous well done
Thank you 😊
Absolutely gorgeous miss mine
Had a 1600e for about 10 years APH 813H best car ever wish i had kept it.
Just discovered your channel and went through them all. Having spent 40 years in the aerospace industry your workmanship is second to none.
Thanks for the kind words Stephen it’s really appreciated. We try our best 😊
Bravo 10 out of 10 fantastic restoration on one of my Fav cars of the past.
Guys you have done a brilliant job on this legend of a car 👌👌👌 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Thank you for your kind words 😊😊
This video was recommended by TH-cam. I thought to myself, 'Oh we we go another bodge job'. When I watched the video my jaw dropped. Absolutely superb restoration. This is perfection!
Thank you so much for the kind words 😊please check out our other videos
Many thanks Chris
Brilliant stuff
How this channel doesn’t have more subscribers is beyond me. The standard of workmanship here is frighteningly high, and the videos are very entertaining.
Thank you for the kind words David, I guess there’s no secret formula to successful or rather more popular channels and it’s just the way it goes sometimes, maybe it’ll suddenly take off and become very popular at some point 😊
Beautiful, I had one of the very last ones made in the 70's DYO188J wish I still had it
Amazing that .. better than new 👏👏👍
Thanks a lot 😊
@@prestigepaintworksltd my dad had 2 1600e .. A H reg one in champagne gold and the other was a G reg light metallic green .. 👍

This car. Was once mime, iwas the third owner, having known both previous owners, friends of.mine , when I had it ,it had a tan interior, and a tinted windscreen, they have. Made a fantastic job of restoring. Ot
That’s great to hear Brian, if you’re happy to, feel free to call and have a chat about it further.
Lovely car. Beautiful job. I hope that man is getting paid £100 per hour at the very least, working at that speed!
You're dead right about watching the shine come back!
This has all the makings of a really interesting video it deserves to be broken down into several episodes but after saying that it's a great video very satisfying to watch .
Thank you 😊
Lovely job... I use the Mirka DA, flatbed sander and extraction.... absolutely brilliant.... no more dragging airlines.
Thank you 😊 😊

Best regards from Richard Copthorne Coachworks Ltd.
You are absolutely correct, most don’t but there are some that appreciate what it takes.
Thank you for the kind words Richard 😊
Amazing paint work true professional 👍 car looks amazing
Thank you Dave 😊😊
Wow !! Amazing work
Thank you 😊
Beautiful car
Beautiful had one in 74 silver fox wish I still had it RHA56G wonder where it is now
My first and best car ever owned, i miss her to this day.. My was Aubergine..
Aubergine isn’t that popular on the 1600E’s but is such a great colour 👌🏻
@@prestigepaintworksltd Yes it was beautiful albeit rusty door sills and arches etc, engine was mint as i was a Ford apprentice mechanic 75-82 … It was our Secretary’s husbands car, she was stunning too.. He used to pick her up in it every day and while the other apprentices watched her i was all over the car.. eventually i spoke to Him and said if you ever sell it please sell it to me.. When i got her I hadn’t taken my driving test but soon passed first time.. The dash was one of the best ever in my opinion ..
Light Orchid was my second fave colour… i so want her back..
@@prestigepaintworksltd How much does a resto like the Gold one featured cost then .. i know it’s difficult as the condition they arrive to you varies but a ball park figure for a total restoration to concourse cond..?
This had around 2000 of labour invested into it but was for the complete restoration and not just the paintwork so multiply that by the labour figure of a body shop in your area because the labour figure will depend on area etc, a modern building on a new industrial estate will inevitably have higher overheads than a business on a farm for example - plus a mountain of parts that the client sourced and supplied himself.
I can’t give an exact figure as to what this car cost simply because the client asked to keep things like this private.
Hope this helps.
Many thanks Chris
WELL DONE LOVELY
my pal had one in the mid 70s although i recall a black vinyl roof.....unfortunately it had a head-on collision with a deer and was written off.
I hope the lucky owner keeps it it a warm dry garage and only brings it out on sunny midsummer days to polish it, otherwise in about eight years it will back to square one! I loved my Mk2 Cortinas but if a car was ever designed to rot it was this one.
Dry days only for this one 👍🏻
oldbloke135 It depends on the prep work and time/effort put in to the anti rust treatment, I have done my 1974 Ford Cortina Mk.3. to last an estimated 35-50 years, without rusting, but then it has had extreme protection in every cavity,.as it was restored a panel at a time.
wow i also want restore my mk2 but unable to start project due to non availability of parts here
That was our 1St car in 1980
Had a 1970 Aubergine 1600E as my first car back in ‘79 kept it until 1985 when I switched to a Capri RS3100 and like everyone else wish I’d put these cars away. Back in the 80’s these cars were cheap as chips and not looked at as future classics.
Aubergine is such a lovely colour and agree that these cars were two a penny back then, can’t keep everything. At least that’s what I tell myself to lesson the pain for selling AVO Mexicos for peanuts in the 80’s…
Hi, been re watching this post and others, as like many, many before me a fellow previous Ford Cortina 1600E owner.
Amber Gold, and no Vinyl Roof, and especially no Glass Sun Roof (common back in the day) very nice.
Meaningful cars cars mean so much to some, yet so little to many others.
I, had a 1600E back in the day, it was Light Orchid in colour, girlfriend said it was Pink, drove me mad, it was not Pink, still we got married though.
DVLA state the colour as Cream, it gets worse.
How can Light Orchid be classed as Cream or Pink by Girlfriend?
Still drives me mad.
Hope your Father has many years in the 1600E.
Stunning cars cut my teeth on these growing up
The reg on the second one was 1600 DOE.
cool
I think these are the guys that have done work for Harry Metcalf from Harry's Garage..
Sorry but that’s not us. Must be someone else.
I’ve watched it a few times and I love the restoration work. One question what type of rustproofing did you use I watched a video of Retropower and they restored a mk 1 escort and they used an epoxy coating if I remember. Also my first car when I passed my test in 1975 was a gold crayford mk 2 convertible GT. WITH ROSTYLES. I Loved it it was a beautiful looking motor. It had a tuned engine twin Webber’s different cams so it was good for 110 mph. But only for a mile or two because the engine was over reving but it was a lovely car to cruise in. Take care and happy new year 👌👌👌👌👌
Hi Russ,
We use epoxy on all our builds, I have used it for what seems like forever. Everyone has their own way of doing things but for me it’s epoxy every time.
The underside of the 1600E was then coated in 2k Polyurethane Stonechip.
Thanks for watching 😊😊😊
@@prestigepaintworksltd does that mean you can drive it in the wet.
Miss you xua588h
How much would this car sell for if on the market 👌👌it’s as good as new maybe better even
Hi Russ, in all honesty it would be all down to how much one was willing to pay. It is as good as it gets with no compromises and wasn’t done with resale intention.
All the best Chris
@@prestigepaintworksltd I’ve seen another one in metallic jade that is in mint condition as well they are both beautiful I think it sold for £ 27.500 About two years ago. You can see it on you tube. They were the best car Ford ever made. The best looking for sure. I think that if they were remanufactured with upgrades ie electric windows electric sunroof. And a more powerful engine like a Zetec. And other mods. I think there is a market for them. They have bought out a new escort mk 2. And that don’t look anything as good as the Cortina
Mine was exactly the same Unfortunately stolen and written off.😪 I got another one white with black vinyl roof, reg no vyu 427 g if anybody knows where it is.
mine was RMA 126H
mint probably tell by profile pic I love em aye lads lmfao
For me the 1600E is the rarer and far more attractive car to have. There was nothing to surpass them in their day.
Why do folk insist on calling the 1600e as the Mk2 when there was no Mk1 1600e. The position is that there were two versions of the 1600e, namely the Series 1 and the Series 2. The Mk2 description refers to the Mk2 Cortina GT, Lotus Cortina, and other Cortina’s. Mind you, I wish my 1970 1600e had looked like that.
There was a first series and second series my 2 cortina 1600e ser 1 dials over the top ser 2 dials inset the dash ser 1 1967 1969 ser 2 1970 1971 hope this helps happy motoring ing 😀👍
