You should be extremely proud of yourself and the example you're showing your kids. I'm betting one of your kids will put nuclear propulsion in a 90ish Ford cause "that's the way Dad thought about doing things". Anything was possible.
The first car I drove by myself was a 63 Falcon Futura Sprint with a 260 V-8 and a four speed. I will never forget that ride. The problem was those cars were few and far between. I too was a teenager then it was 1964 and I had been in the air force over a year and was hitchhiking back to the base and the guy that picked was on his way to Amarillo where I was stationed but had left Houston earlier that day and was very tired and sleepy but his dad had a heart attack and he was on his way to the hospital. He needed someone to drive for him and he got out and I got behind the wheel with very, very little experience behind the wheel. I was shaking at first but he went to sleep and I gained enough confidence to get us to Amarillo. Every time I see a Falcon the memories come rushing back.

I thought "body swap" meant two vehicles with a ladder frame. Literally take the body off one frame and swap it onto another. This is an insane amount of work. I'm very impressed.
a guy i work with did a 49 desoto 4dr onto an s10 complete with a/c and all then worked it into a 2dr conversion with a chop top. its sick as hell. he told me the other day hes putting a newer dodge hemi in it now

They don't care here. A young lady from the DMV will come out look at the car and make sure the serial number underneath the hood is there and then say ok ready to go. They don't care about anything older than 1975 as far as inspections or legality. They just want to sale you new plates and tags so they make there money.

This is honestly the best idea I've seen. Preserving the wrecked underframe of a newer car while keeping the shell of the old body. I should suggest making negative castings for builds like this. On top of that you can use the VIN from the old body and not have to worry about dealing with the wrecked VIN.
@@32PontiacSix-rk6vs typically; smog legality, if applicable, goes by the year of the body, not the floor pan/drive train. This Round Body Falcon is how this build is registered; especially if it was already licensed/titled.
Excellent. After much measuring and googling, crawling through my local wrecking yards, I did pretty much the same thing last winter. Free totaled Toyota Avalon in Excellent mechanical condition, stripped down to the chassis. Found a running registered 1961 Dodge Lancer with extreme floor rust. FWD chassis to RWD body required some ingenuity, but I have a completely unaltered Dodge body now with Toyota amenities and reliability. Registered in CA as a 61 Dodge, put 10k miles on it this summer! Repairs so far- left front wheel bearing and one oil change.

Had four various 60- 64 falcons as my first car(s) (in Australia, basically the same vehicle only no 289 and two doors rare as hen's dentures) So very nostalgic watching this, and wonderful to see this shell on new components. Kudos to your brilliance.
Man you’ve given me so much inspiration to work on my 63 Falcon 2 door sedan. I had a wild idea about extending a Miata chassis to match the Falcon’s wheelbase but wasn’t sure of the feasibility. You’ve made me rethink it lol, beautiful car man!
Fortunately for you, Miata frames come in two halves! They aren’t really one continuous frame from front to back, there are just front and rear subframes that bolt to the body, sort of like they’re half body on frame, but unibody in the middle. So if you buy a donor Miata and remove the subframes, it should actually be pretty easy to change the length to fit whatever car you want to put them in. You’ll just need to get a custom driveshaft to connect the two, and make sure your car has enough rigidity in between the frames.
@@Thinginator That's not a Miata specific thing, it's pretty much true of all modern unibody cars. The GS400 is also like this. On a Miata though, they also have this piece called the "powerplant frame" that structurally connects the transmission to the diff while also supporting the transmission because the Miata doesn't have a crossmember or trans mount. That would have to be lengthened or eliminated if you wanted to change the wheelbase.
If your 63 falcon runs and drives it would be easier to repair any rust damage and keep it as original as possible besides if you ever sell it most people are looking for an original car not a miss matched one.
I had a 61 Sedan w/ 170ci inline 6 "Special Performance", 3 on the tree. You don't know how many times I dreamt of doing something like this. Those roundbody Falcons could be a lot of fun with the right performance upgrades.
The Ford Falcon was actually a pretty good car. Built on the same chassis and drivetrain as the Mustang. Had the same 200 Cu. Inch straight six as the Mustang.
Except it was the other way around. Falcons were there first. The Mustang was a Falcon with a skinjob. Falcons were seen as nerdy cars, Mustangs were designed to look cool.
I wish I had the skills to put my '03 Corolla chassis and running gear under a Studebaker ,shoebox Ford or some other oldie.Your work here is totally kickass! Mad skills!!
I love what you did to the Falcon. When I was a kid the family had an early 60's Falcon wagon, so I've got a soft spot for this car. Truly amazing build. Kudos to the auto wash crew. They look like they get the job done too!

I built a 63 with a custom frame, 506ci bbf. I had it stripped down to the bare body just like you did, but then used a custom frame instead of another car. Well done, however, what is great about the gen1 falcon is the dash! You should keep it and put the gauges, etc, from the lexus inside. This is what I did when I swapped a 99 dodge truck drivetrain into a 74 motorhome, I took apart the gauge cluster and cut into individual gauges to put inside the 74 dash, and used the dash controller to still control them and hook up to the wiring harness. Only funny thing is some gauges were rotating 90 to get the same needle movement. lol
This is the 2nd most ambitious project I've seen on TH-cam. The first was the guy that resurrected the modern hemi Challenger that burnt up in a house fire.

I love automotive upcycling like this, you took two junk cars and made one awesome new car out of the best bits of both! Personally I’d like to have seen the Falcon’s dashboard reused, but if you wanted to keep the airbags and stuff then I guess that makes sense. Either way, that’s a super cool ride!
There's no such thing as "upcycling", it's a fake idea made by etsy sellers to trick you into buying an old laptop that's been turned into a wall clock or some shit. As it is he took one perfectly fine lexus and one reasonable falcon restoration candidate, and he didn't improve the falcon, he made a lexus worse.
@@kyle8952 Lol the Lexus was wrecked and that four-door Falcon wouldn't be worth restoring, it'd cost more to fix than it's worth. By combining the two he's keeping both cars on the road in a fun and unique way. As for upcycling, all it is is a variation of recycling, by repurposing something that would otherwise be thrown away/scrapped. Call it whatever you want, but that's basically what this is, just because you don't like a word doesn't mean it isn't a thing.

I agree with you on the interiors. The main reasons I didn’t stay with the falcon interior was... well it didn’t have one haha. So the cheaper option was the Lexus. Plus the Lexus interior was almost perfect since the car has less than 80,000mi on it. And lastly, I left the original dash in my 66 when I did the crown Vic swap and trying keep all the creature comforts while hiding it behind the small older dashes was a royal pain. There is a reason new cars have big dashboards... there is a lot of stuff back there
Ford made / makes quite a few reliable models mixed in with their many duds....The new Tundra and Tacoma are unreliable disasters.....failing engines and transmissions under 30k miles!
Dad used to have a Falcon like this one. It brought back some good memories to see this one and to know that it had been given a second life. Fantastic work 👏👏👏

I absolutely love builds like this. It takes a piece of hotrod history thats rotting and beyond repair underneath and saving it making it a new enjoyable part of hot rod history. Keep em runnin boys!
There's a few guys who have body swapped 1950's era Ford F100's onto second generation 1995-2001 Ford Explorers, one stock engine option was the 5.0 on those, plenty of aftermarket stock and performance parts for those.
I am excited about the idea of unibody chassis swaps but I'm not yet brave enough to take the plunge. This is a very encouraging video with a terrific result, great work!
I thought an excessive amount of structural support for the Lexus was removed, as a professional do you have an opinion or concerns w that aspect of the build?
@@Pedroisanickname I think throwing steel at it and attaching the "new" body is sufficient especially for a hardtop sedan. Modern cars are surprisingly strong even with the top cut off. It would certainly be stronger than the original falcon, they fold-up pretty easily.
Had a 62 I honestly was thinking this one could have been it by the colors and primer showing, until I realized it had 4 doors . Call me crazy but that body stile is one of my favorite out of even the classic muscle cars. Its ecredible what you accomplished. A 62 falcon was my first car and I want another. I have 65 econoline now, I think theres something special about the wagons around that year also
The interior looks awesome in the good ol Falcon. Those Falcons were the platform that the Mustang was built on. Lots of the parts would interchange. They were so popular many of them were still coming to the shop in the early 80's.
This reminds me of myself and my friends back in the 80s, we would try anything. We had the energy and courage to do something like this, but it was the malais era, so donor platform cars were just soso. great job guy, and it came out well.
this is really BadAss brother i’m almost 60 years old and your generation is completely Credited for coming up with this idea ! when i was younger and the Unibody Construction took off in thecAutomotive World no one had the Vision that a Body Swap of this Magnitude could be done successfully now of course the Equipment like awelders and other Tools has changed a lot of that because it’s so availablfor the DIYers at affordable costs but honestly a Old Ford Falcon running and driving like a Lexus !Its Brilliant plus swapping out the nice Amenities that a Lexus offers is a freaking Homerun like the nice comfortable Lathr Interior Soft Ride , aC , Cruise , nice Stereo Etc it’s Genious you take a basic commuter Car and turn it into a nice Luxury Daily Driver that doesn’t look like everything else on the road Plus IMO no disrespect but i remember seeing old Falcons running and driving being $800.00 to &1,0000.00 dollar cars and by doing this type of a build i’m guessing it’s a car that would sell for 15 to 20K easily if not more i’m basing that on used Lexus pricing but throwing in some CoolGuy Factor Moneys it seams reasonable the whole process is a Win i’m sure the Lexus was a reasonable buy with all the body Damage it had the only major Glitch i could see is i’m not sure how that would work with a Salvage Totle and theRebuild Laws Yet i’m thinking as long as the FalconBody meets the mandatory Motor Vehicle Laws it would be cool and Legal of course every State would be different

That's impossible with these 2 vehicles because the Lexus is a unibody & doesn't have a frame...

Move to Australia we have a whole range of falcons even turbo 4 litre straight six varients that can pull 8 second 1/4mile when heavily modified

This is the 2nd most ambitious project I've seen on TH-cam. The first was the guy that resurrected the modern hemi Challenger that burnt up in a house fire.

I love automotive upcycling like this, you took two junk cars and made one awesome new car out of the best bits of both! Personally I’d like to have seen the Falcon’s dashboard reused, but if you wanted to keep the airbags and stuff then I guess that makes sense. Either way, that’s a super cool ride!
There's no such thing as "upcycling", it's a fake idea made by etsy sellers to trick you into buying an old laptop that's been turned into a wall clock or some shit.
As it is he took one perfectly fine lexus and one reasonable falcon restoration candidate, and he didn't improve the falcon, he made a lexus worse.
@@kyle8952 Lol the Lexus was wrecked and that four-door Falcon wouldn't be worth restoring, it'd cost more to fix than it's worth. By combining the two he's keeping both cars on the road in a fun and unique way.
As for upcycling, all it is is a variation of recycling, by repurposing something that would otherwise be thrown away/scrapped. Call it whatever you want, but that's basically what this is, just because you don't like a word doesn't mean it isn't a thing.

I love these kinds of builds, deeply love them, but I also loath the use of modern plastic interiors. Amazing how well the two cars line up though!
I agree with you on the interiors. The main reasons I didn’t stay with the falcon interior was... well it didn’t have one haha. So the cheaper option was the Lexus. Plus the Lexus interior was almost perfect since the car has less than 80,000mi on it. And lastly, I left the original dash in my 66 when I did the crown Vic swap and trying keep all the creature comforts while hiding it behind the small older dashes was a royal pain. There is a reason new cars have big dashboards... there is a lot of stuff back there

Ford made / makes quite a few reliable models mixed in with their many duds....The new Tundra and Tacoma are unreliable disasters.....failing engines and transmissions under 30k miles!
Dad used to have a Falcon like this one. It brought back some good memories to see this one and to know that it had been given a second life. Fantastic work 👏👏👏

I absolutely love builds like this. It takes a piece of hotrod history thats rotting and beyond repair underneath and saving it making it a new enjoyable part of hot rod history. Keep em runnin boys!
There's a few guys who have body swapped 1950's era Ford F100's onto second generation 1995-2001 Ford Explorers, one stock engine option was the 5.0 on those, plenty of aftermarket stock and performance parts for those.
I like everything about this, except, I think I would have preferred the Falcon dash.

I thought an excessive amount of structural support for the Lexus was removed, as a professional do you have an opinion or concerns w that aspect of the build?
@@Pedroisanickname I think throwing steel at it and attaching the "new" body is sufficient especially for a hardtop sedan. Modern cars are surprisingly strong even with the top cut off. It would certainly be stronger than the original falcon, they fold-up pretty easily.

Had a 62 I honestly was thinking this one could have been it by the colors and primer showing, until I realized it had 4 doors . Call me crazy but that body stile is one of my favorite out of even the classic muscle cars. Its ecredible what you accomplished. A 62 falcon was my first car and I want another. I have 65 econoline now, I think theres something special about the wagons around that year also

The interior looks awesome in the good ol Falcon. Those Falcons were the platform that the Mustang was built on. Lots of the parts would interchange. They were so popular many of them were still coming to the shop in the early 80's.

This reminds me of myself and my friends back in the 80s, we would try anything. We had the energy and courage to do something like this, but it was the malais era, so donor platform cars were just soso. great job guy, and it came out well.

this is really BadAss brother i’m almost 60 years old and your generation is completely Credited for coming up with this idea ! when i was younger and the Unibody Construction took off in thecAutomotive World no one had the Vision that a Body Swap of this Magnitude could be done successfully now of course the Equipment like awelders and other Tools has changed a lot of that because it’s so availablfor the DIYers at affordable costs but honestly a Old Ford Falcon running and driving like a Lexus !Its Brilliant plus swapping out the nice Amenities that a Lexus offers is a freaking Homerun like the nice comfortable Lathr Interior Soft Ride , aC , Cruise , nice Stereo Etc it’s Genious you take a basic commuter Car and turn it into a nice Luxury Daily Driver that doesn’t look like everything else on the road Plus IMO no disrespect but i remember seeing old Falcons running and driving being $800.00 to &1,0000.00 dollar cars and by doing this type of a build i’m guessing it’s a car that would sell for 15 to 20K easily if not more i’m basing that on used Lexus pricing but throwing in some CoolGuy Factor Moneys it seams reasonable the whole process is a Win i’m sure the Lexus was a reasonable buy with all the body Damage it had the only major Glitch i could see is i’m not sure how that would work with a Salvage Totle and theRebuild Laws Yet i’m thinking as long as the FalconBody meets the mandatory Motor Vehicle Laws it would be cool and Legal of course every State would be different

At the start of the video I was thinking, " if he doesn't use those Lexas seats in the Falcon I'll have to call that out in the comments". You didn't let me down, bravo, bravo sir. Then you took it another level, dash, console and carpet install, poof mind blown. Not all heroes wear capes...
