Land Rover Series 3 Restoration - part 6 of Project Pickle the 1976 88” we're starting on the tub.
มุมมอง 3.7Kปีที่แล้ว
Hi and welcome back to the channel, In this video we have started the bodywork on Pickle the 1976 88” Series 3. Most of the original rear tub would have taken far too many hours to make a good tub, we sourced a second hand one that had some better panels but still requires some new ones too so we are covering what we can salvage from both rear tubs and getting them soda blasted in readiness for...

Best car to come out of Dagenham, I had one in 1977, love it then, and still do, although no longer in my ownership.
What type of drill bit do you use for the spot welds?
Just a standard spot weld drill bit, 6mm or 8mm - depends on the application 😊
OMG, I can't believe you did all this work, great job!! I'm sure mine is just as rotten body shop quoted me 35K but I don't think they going this far.
Thank you!
Why do you grit the clear cut it looks so good?
To make the finish even better 😊
Fantastic result
How utterly fantastic. Reminds of Silk Violet on Nova GTEs! I understand the new owner may have painted it black again? Dismal, how boring the rich are. Why didn’t he just go and buy a black one already?
Miss you xua588h
Absolutely gorgeous miss mine
i like all old British cars 👌👌🇬🇧🇬🇧👍👍
Love the car, absolutely stunning job, but please, please get rid of those wheels and put the original ones on.
The Mk2 Cortina that isn't a 1600E. I used to like these cars but preferred the bigger Corsair.
Speechless, the love radiates in the end result.
Thank you for the kind words 😊
Great job. Loved the video.
Thank you!
What a beautiful car, a real classic, I love all Fords from that Era.
Lovely 1600 e my mate from Webster Rd Walsall Ted Dutton had a couple back in the late 70s top car top mate 👍👍🏴🦊
What a car what a restoration 👌,the first car I ever owned but mine had the black vinyl roof , great car to drive who needs power steering 😂
Whats the darker layer he's removing there?
The dark layer is guide coat - either a dust type one or an aerosol. They do the same job to indicate the areas that still need block sanding, it’s very good at showing pin holes and low areas etc. Thanks for watching
Nice and great video.. So, how's the latest video for the next episode? Just waiting for it👍👍👍
Won’t be long now 🤞🏻 Thanks for your patience 😊😊
Seeing how you actually unstuck and released the latch would have been nice. 😒
I simply broke up the kernels that had stuck in the catch jamming it, once they’d started to break up it instantly started to move.
Mine was a bit more difficult but this video was priceless for the information on how to access the latch! Mine was and alignment/lubrication issue. Thanks for posting!
What an absolutely beautiful gorgeous stunning piece of iconic history , these cars were a dream to drive i no i had one of them, Trouble was some scroatum bag stole mine , but was lucky enough to get it back, Never felt the same about it after that , And away back then i didn't have any welding skills to speak of or a garage to restore it , Now i can mig weld to MOT standards . Quite a few years ago I made a 4 ft folding press from 100 x 100 x10 mill angle iron to replace Sills, inner wings valance panels battery box ( floor panels sill to bulkhead ) on a car that had a very low milage took me 18 months knocked the stuffing out of me , But when i took it for it's first mot in 5 years it passed with a huge compliment from the Tester . S.
Nice work. Can’t believe you didn’t remove the steering wheel. Would have made the lads work a bit easier in the drivers side foot well 😂
mine was RMA 126H
Great workmanship! My only complaint, the chassis should be black.
@jondingle I hear you but to be fair they are pretty much all black or just raw galv, as it’s for ourselves we are able to something a bit different with it.
Not only is that the best jig I have seen but some of the best bodywork repairs I have seen on TH-cam. really brilliant work on bringing that E Type back!
Thank you 😊
Would it have been less work, and maybe less expensive to just get one of the new complete bodies? I think I saw a British company that's making complete shells from the original jigs.
It would have been more expensive for a complete new body and taking that option would have lost a lot of originality so I’m always in favour of doing what I can to retain as many original panels as possible. Have a great New Years 🍻
I don't understand how a hard-edged rigid sanding block can work on a concave part of the body. And could not much of this extremely tedious work be automated?
In the right hands it’s surprising what works and what doesn’t and bear in mind it’s all in a cross hatch direction when it’s being blocked so there’s no straight line blocking where it could easily leave lines in the surface. Plus I’ve got the benefit of having done it for 40 years so for me it comes a lot easier and to be honest, to me it’s not remotely tedious - bordering therapeutic at times and I’d find it difficult for what we do to be automated simply because of all the little nuances necessary for the outcome.
😮 quality work
Thank you for your kind words 😊
Had one best car ever owned.
We had a mint 1935 speed 20 vanden plus tourer a black one in new Zealand in the 1960s it was bloody brilliant and fast 1o8 m.p.h
What a superb restoration. Looks all the better for not having a tan or black vinyl roof too. My first car back in 1984 was a series 2 1600E - HTW 364H, I loved that car.
Absolutely superb work and incredibly detailed work too, well done everyone
Thank you very much!
So how did you get it open if attaching the cable didn't do anything?
They should make film about Tadek Marek. I saw a documentary on him awhile ago. Fascinating life. He actually produced one DB5 with a v8 engine for himself it has a 200 MPH Speedo.
My favourite car ever.
Stunning piece of work, amazing skills and knowledge 👍
Thank you for you kind words, Glad you enjoyed it
What an absolutely beautiful car,❤ such hard work gone into this stunner,,great work guy's 😉
What a beauty love these cars
For me the 1600E is the rarer and far more attractive car to have. There was nothing to surpass them in their day.
Cars from England are historically unreliable!
i LOVE European sport cars, but I always had much to do to keep up with them.My last car was a 1968 XKE that suffered from sitting idle for too long. It had a lot of issues.
That’s all too common, sitting idle does them no good at all but once you’re on top of things there’s nothing quite like them. Modern cars whilst being more reliable give little compared to a old classic.
Since I am retired I am going to buy a 1974 XKE V12 and frame off restore it from the ground up. Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead.
We are currently restoring another Series 3 for a client but won’t be one for the purists, this one will have changes both mechanically and bodily.
It's so lovely to see these old classics brought back to life. Owned one of these myself, ''Not 1600E though 'back in the day. So thanks for bringing them back 👍
I wrote my mark 2 jaguar off 1978 and my mate who owned his own garage gave me a 1600E to get to work it was the same colour as this one I ran about in that car for two years it had holes in the foot wells and when it rained the water used to splash up inside the cabin happy days this one is absolutely beautiful
Stunning and stock………..1600E was always, imo, the best looker and performance wise, just under the Lotus version……
That was our 1St car in 1980
Now that is some resto what a beautiful motor ❤
Thank you 😊
Lovely bit of kit Chris. These jigs have certainly come a long was since the old blackhawk systems!. Have you seen the system that moto technique use that can digitally scan the measurements?
I will check it out Steve
Very interesting video thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it
Lovely car, great slo-TV ☺️ A lot of polishing!
Thanks! 😊
Amazing that .. better than new 👏👏👍
Thanks a lot 😊
