- In this video I went to see Bhups to check out his beautiful Mk2 Cortina 1600E, which I used to see out and about quite a lot when I was working my old day job. As a bit of a bonus Bhups also showed me round his Dad Alan's heavily modified Mk3 Zodiac. 👍

I bought a 1970 1600 E brand new for the cost of £1061.00 from Ford Dagenham motors in 1970 and my father at the time suggested l must be crazy giving more than a thousand pound for a Ford - same gold colour (aubergine was also a popular colour) had it two years and sold it for about the same money - top speed 99 l could never get it to 100 !
I remember when I was growing up in the 70’s all the cool guys owned a 1600E. There was no foreign muck on our roads back then, it was British,British and more British hardware. OH! How times have changed.
Foreign muck a whole heap better than the crap British Leyland where churning out in the 70’s
Built me a mk11 2 door gt from the ground up.....lovely cars.

Twin front anti roll bar , just as it should be.
Last time I saw it moving was 12 years ago......such a shame.
I had a silver fox 1600e absolutely loved it .4 years of joyful motoring. Gold was called Aztec gold and Saluki bronze was much darker
Amber gold I think?
Was saluki bronze - the difficult to describe sort of 'mushroom rose' colour - depending on the light? My cousin had a 1600E in that colour and his Dad had a silver fox Corsair 2000E.....which was later handed down to me. Lovely shade of silver - your 1600E must have looked good in it!
Yes it was that mushroomy type of colour . They also did a non metallic colour dark aubergine 🍆 😀
Never been a fan of Mk2 cortinas but that is a stunner! Love the wheels and stance. Gold suits it better than silver too! Great story with the Zodiac too. Seems like a real nice guy.

Love the 1600E and the upgrades, the Zodiac is nice too but over modded for my taste but it's not mine.

That Zodiac is a good example of a fine car being totally ruined by the addition of unwanted tat!

Carnage incarnate, millennial BS. I was a 14yo passenger in a Black Zodiac racing a Mk 2 Jag on the A6 between Shap Quarry and Kendal in 1968, the Zodiac won , sweet. At 17 got a metallic green 1600E and was cut up on M6 going to Carlisle, giving the driver the finger ,to see it was driven by a Nun. I wouldn’t want either of these lump’s of tat.
Have to agree, less is more in this case, not my fav zodiac, mk1 and mk2s more my style

My dad had one of those back in the day, bought new - same colour and vinyl roof, but I think it had a black interior - it has been a while...
Love the Cortina 👍 i had a Escort 1300e back in the day, VKX865L. Purple Velvet, nice motor.
Very nicely done cortina, remember my grandad had a mark 2 estate in metallic green as a company car - great memories of him taking me on his visits to customers. Not sure about the Zodiac, the bonnet slats are a little over the top, sometimes less is more
I absolutly loved my 1600E and my MK1 Cortina, my aunty offered me her Zodiac, which never left town ever, and i refused it, arghhh
Oh my god. The first car I ever owned a 1600 E same colour and a vynl roof. Obviously not in such great condition as this but brings back memories of my younger days. Love it

Hi Marcus Great video, lovely cortina 1600e my dad had the same in gold but his vynal roof was in dark brown. It was stunning I use to go to shows with mum and dad when I younger, years ago one great cortina event was held a heaver castle great day, dad sold the car to a collector, we still have some great photos as memories.

Really mint 1600 E, I remember the mark 2 lotus cortina in cream and green, also a lovely car, both classics, not too keen on the zodiac, would of been much nicer as it was originally, too many bits and pieces bolted on, spoils it

A mate of mine had mk ll in the 70s it was all ready on its 2nd set of front wings then ! Still a nice car .
Am I right in thinking that zodiac used to cruise the roads of Southall back in the day!
I'm sure that's the same car. Used to have a boomerang antenna on the boot lid. There's not too many MK3 zodiacs with immitation knock offs on the wheels.
I'd be interested to know if that's the same car!

If anyone remembers the song 2,4,6,8 motorway circa 1977 by Tom Robinson then. My brother a DJ got me to film out of his webasto sunroof going along a then reasonably empty M5 from this same vehicle. This was when videos were up and coming with music but my brother made his own. What a beautiful car that was. Gearbox like silk, revvy engine, all the dials and full length sunroof and rostyle wheels. Very desirable indeed

The Cortina is beautiful and the Zodiac is a car I've never seen and it is a awsome unique car.
When watching a program from over seas i feel obligated to call the the hood a bonnet but when you pulled the lever to open the bonnet it had printed on the the lever "HOOD" gotcha from New Jersey 😊😊😊

I’m 72 my second car was Cortina 1600E colour dark bronze I remember doing 110 mph down the M23 such a nice car but I had to sell it to get marred. Great website.

Zodiacs been ruined but it’s his car so up to him but that wiring under the bonnet is shocking
Rust never sleeps.....a cruel part of nature.... imagine it didn't exist....all these super cool affordable classics we could still be enjoying.
That MK2 cortina looks great, in my mind it would look better on the standard 1600E rims 👍

1600 E = elegance in a car ! sure is bloody beautiful super fine job there all the right up-grades well loved and cared for= well done sir thank you - i put a 3.5 v8 into a 240 1964 cortina 4 speed manual = ran and drove it - but fail in the end .

The door cappings in all1600e models are far better than other g hiamodels etc it is a great resto mod

Loved my 1970 Mk2 1600GT (mildly tuned) in pale blue with mid blue interior (TOF264H) it used to fly !, 105mph 😂
Your car is correctly described as a Mk2, unlike the description within this 1600e presentation.

They should make a new 1600 E. but with modern upgrades. IE. Electric windows air con. Powerful engine better gearing power full brakes. Bigger wheels. Sound proofing. Would be a great car. Especially with a cossie England. I would love it. Best looking Ford ever.

Noticed in the E there’s no coach line on it ? My dad had a 1968 2door 1600e special made for one of the bosses of Ford , we lived in Essex and guess what it was stolen 😡😡😡😡😡

It’s known as an either Series 1 or the later Series 2 1600e. The description Mk2 was never attributed to the 1600e. If in doubt, check with a Ford enthusiast!
Bet the Zodiac could tell a few stories.
