Definitely funny, easy watch, and informative. I should do the same with my archive of knowledge. Especially liked your snap-on torque wrench and humor, good vid good sir.
Great vid. This will be a go to for my aging 2005 Ram 3500 w/ 95% of the 300,000 miles done in Alaska towing and hauling through mountains, snow, heat, and extreme cold. Truck is all OEM except for a Banks air system and tuner and a new starter from about two months ago. Cheers for the video.
This is a late response to this issue but I had this problem with my 03 Cummins. We unplugged the contact wire from the FCA and found the pressure was back up where it should be. Bought a new FCA and installed it but the problem persisted. So unplugging the wire does not tell you anything. The injection pump just pulls what it needs without the lift pump apparently. But here is what we found and which nobody has mentioned. My son pulled the lift pump off and totally disassembled it and found it was seized. Upon removing the pump from its housing, there was debris preventing the pump from spinning. He cleaned everything, put it back together and it functions absolutely fine now. The problem was failing to replace the in-line pre-filter to the Fass lift pump we installed years ago. The in-line pre-filter must be changed every six to 12 months. Upon speaking with the technician from Fass, he said they see this all the time. Pull the pump, remove the debris and reinstall it with a new filter and it will be fine. No damage to the pump. Hope this helps.
If you have a no start condition and want to diagnose this before you rip it out, simply unplug it and see if your engine starts. If it does, quickly shut it off, and proceed as shown. When unplugged, the actuator defaults to maximum pressure, which you don't want to run on for too long.
What about on a 2000 Cummins 5.9? Being the vp44, what could be this issue, with high idle with some lugging around idle but I have to help out with ether to start the truck otherwise it’ll turn over till batteries are drained completely. New FASS. Everything new but the VP. Didn’t have any problems before installing everything.
I have a 2001 dodge 2500 5.9 Cummins, my problem is similar but not sure. It might be related to the same issue you had but my issue is it turns off like 1 second after turn it in. Then I have to hold the key for like 5 seconds turning the engine over then it starts and good to go after that. Anyone have any ideas as to what is causing it to do that? Thank you
So I have a 2004 cummins and it ran perfect then one day at a stop light it started sputtering and died my tuner showed no fuel rail pressure also its not tuned I just use that to monitor things I normally couldn't see
This is 2003 and later. I have a 95 that shuts down only in the summer when you get it cooking like 70 mph or so and it shuts down and won’t start for like 45 min.
I would look at your lift pump on the fuel system next- It was notoriously week and failed. Put a fuel pressure gauge after the filte but before the injection pump to confirm it is keeping up. This guide for problem solving has been fantastic and never let me down- www.dieselpowerproducts.com/c-3587-technical-topic-2003-2007-cummins-no-start-no-problem.aspx. This dude wants to trade me a 1998 Dodge Cummings he said it won’t idle and will die at stop signs if your foot isn’t on the gas. do you think this is the problem?
The technical problem solving video was spot on and I just replaced my FCA on my Cumming with a Bosch FCA and it got rid of the rough idle and purrs like a 5.9 should!

Hey John. I appreciate your kind words!

Hey J thanks for the boost!

Wish I could help you, friend. It certainly sounds fuel related if I had to start somewhere.
My Cummins stumbles/falls on its face at the top of each gear. Could this be related?
Good question, I haven't seen that one. Its a cheap enough part to swap..? Worth a shot? Sorry. Wish I could help!
I’ve got the part on order thanks for replying though
So I have a 2004 cummins and it ran perfect then one day at a stop light it started sputtering and died my tuner showed no fuel rail pressure also its not tuned I just use that to monitor things I normally couldn't see
Did you toss this solenoid at it yet?

That sounds dangerous!
Great info..plus GREAT HUMOR..I SUSCRIBED!👍👍👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
That's Awesome! Thank you!
I replaced this component but it still does the same pls help
Me to.
Uh OH! What else have you tried? I would have completely disassembled and cleaned the fuel system prior to this instal.
I would look at your lift pump on the fuel system next- It was notoriously week and failed. Put a fuel pressure gauge after the filte but before the injection pump to confirm it is keeping up.
