Great idea, if you can find weldable rebar, it is even better. There will be the letter W on the bar logo.

I did this to a beat up craftsman. It works but sometimes grass wraps on the bar at the back of the chute opening.
It’s the way I fix every one of them for years, it will last 40 years now
