    1:30 Yeah, you're doing it wrong. I have the last model G5 and the software tripped me up for ages too. To make settings actually do anything, you need to click the chain link icon next to the profile name, which will pop out a list of software etc. You then select which software you want to trigger that profile. Alternatively (and a much better option imo) you can select "system" in the list, and it will use that profile all the time.

    6:49 finally a thermal camera view.
    so it's true that both side of the bottom part of the display is getting hotter due to the vent / exhaust pointing at them like a heat gun when it's open.
    it is as if it was design for plan obsolescence.
    the display shell is plastic. it it will soon get brittle and it's just a matter of time before it crack near both side of the hinge where it centered the stress of opening and closing are.

    @Jarrod
    So i must admit three things after a week of testing with my new dell -
    1. The Freesync just worked with the integrated display with the new 17.june.2020 AMD Dell se driver from the AMD Site
    2. After setting the Dell to the Energy Profile Balanced - Efficient Agressive (needs Registry Editing) .... i now can stop boosting this beast without the need to.
    3. The themal compound is just crap - i repaste the hole cooling system for CPU and GPU with kryonaut and temps went 10°C down (before registry and new driver!)
    So for now .. the Dell is just quiet under Windows and little Tasks .. the Fans never spin.
    On the Gaming Side of Things - its a huge uplift - when use the STOCK! Frequency of just 2.9Ghz and the new driver not only Freesync works (60-144hz Range) with the Laptop Screen...
    Also i see temps beginning in the 60°C - to 80-90°C depending on the Game.
    YES, the Fans got still loud but its not throttleing or hot surface anymore overall.
    I would say its like any other Gaming Laptop around.
    Sry for my bad english - but i would share this as fast as i can.
    When i render or do CPU intensive Tasks i use the Energy profile HIGH - and for Gaming i use Efficient Agressive.
    I would say it safe me from returning this unit, because now i love it without compromising to much.

    It doesn't seem to get that hot but I've got it on a cooling pad (small one) and always have G shift enabled. Got temperatures in the mid to high 80's CPU and high 70s GPU

    Bought this one, was playing Assassins Creed Origins at ultra settings forgot to turn on high performance mode, crashed with critical hard drive temperature, though I don't know what temperature it did so but got pretty hot. Later started crashing and restarting even with high performance mode eventually fixed it with temperature ranging between 72-78 C with one inch raised laptop from the back, so as I am living in India with avg temperature most of the time above 30 C, it's better to have a cooling pad.

    Hey Jarrod! I think I heard you say in another video that you don't like to drag all those "balls" down in MSI Afterburner. If this is still true, have I got the trick for you!
    Basically, this trick, that I learned this via another TH-cam channel, eliminates the need to manually drag all those "balls" down, one by one. All you have to do is move the first ball to your target position (1500MHz@0.700V for me) then hold the SHIFT key down while dragging your mouse across the entire window (from just before the first ball, to just after the last ball) and then while all balls are highlighed, simply hold SHIFT down again while hitting ENTER twice, and voila! All balls are moved to the same position that the first one was set at! Took all of 10 seconds for me to set my UV/OC settings. (If only I learned about this trick BEFORE dragging them all manually!) This also works for just the balls you select (i.e. you don't have to select them all, and can keep whatever curves you want in place, just to the left of the flat line that you are working to create).
    Hope this helps, and happy computing!

    Hey Jarrod can you do a performance benchmark when using external monitors? I'm split between buying the G5 and A15. The G5, while it is great, it seems underwhelming compared to other laptops. But, it has a mini displayport which not all laptops, especially the A15, have. The A15 would've been ideal and perfect for me but I contacted ASUS and they told me the Type-C DisplayPort is connected to the iGPU rather than the DGPU. So if I was to connect to the Type-C DP will there be any performance drop off on the A15? Please I've been looking for answers no one really talks about this

    • @JarrodsTech
      @JarrodsTech  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Going forward I always mention what all the ports are connected to in the full review, I haven't tested the A15 yet, but with G5 can confirm Type-C goes to Vega, but MiniDP/HDMI go to Radeon.

      @zoinbergs 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      "The A15 would've been ideal and perfect for me but I contacted ASUS and they told me the Type-C DisplayPort is connected to the iGPU rather than the DGPU."
      VERY interesting that you got this answer from ASUS, because I'd beg to differ. I'm on my A15 right now, and have my ASUS VG279QM connected to it via a standard USB-C to DP cable, and wherein while using it this way I don't see ANY activity, at all, on the Vega graphics processor, when viewing it in either the Task Manager or HWInfo64. So everything most certainly appears to be going directly through the 2060, as far as I can tell at least. Moreover, I specifically got this laptop because I wanted to utilize G-Sync for my monitor, and to which has worked PERFECTLY for me, since day one.
      In the end (and contrary to the previous commenter's point) I must inform you that I am 100% satisfied with my A15 purchase, and haven't looked back since. Thermals have also been acceptable, and even better once I disabled turbo-boost via the registry trick while simultaneously undervolting and overclocking the GPU via MSI Afterburner (I have it set across the board at 1500MHz@0.700V). Oh, and I should note here that after performing such mods, I have seen minimal loss (0-10%) in my average FPS for games, while dropping anywhere between 10C and 15C in temps on both my CPU and GPU! Quite a disappointment that the base-clock-lock trick didn't help the G5 so much, however. Likely that "smart shift" feature, I bet, as I have DEFINITELY had a far different (better) experience with the trick when performing it on the 4800H coupled with the 2060.
      SIDE NOTE: There is also a third-party program called "Ryzen Controller" that I recently found, which is almost as good as Ryzen Master, but works for mobile chips, and to which using has allowed me to play with my chip's TDP values rather than simply disable turbo boost. This has allowed me to more granularly dial in my temps and thus maximize my FPS even more! It just requires a little more work (trial and error) to find the ideal TDP value per game, than how much work the quick-and-dirty set-it-and-forget-it turbo-boost-disabling mod requires. Just try both and see what you prefer! But regardless, it must be noted here that undervolting/overclocking the GPU is where the real savings are at, for without doing that I didn't see nearly as much of a difference in temps on the CPU side with either CPU mod just mentioned (since the CPU and GPU share heat pipes, remember).
      Hope this helps, and happy computing!
      UPDATE: I totally forgot that the NVIDIA Control Panel tells you which monitor is connected to which port, and which port is connected to which GPU, via its PhysX tab. Alas, I can tell you with absolute specificity that my VG279QM is connected directly to my 2060 via the USB-C DP port. Moreover, when I connect it to my A15 via the HDMI port, the PhysX tab shows that it is connected to the Vega GPU! (And as a side note, only then do I begin seeing activity -- in the Task Manager and HWInfo64 -- on both my GPUs.) Now the 2060 is definitely still doing most of the work (as I run my GPU-Z stress test here) so I know that it's fortunately still being utilized. But it does appear now that the Vega -- since it's doing **some** work (about 10% utilization) -- is likely receiving the "finished product" from the 2060 that is essentially being "relayed" to it internally.
      So yes, if you're running >>HDMI

    As expected the G5 itself is pretty much a hot laptop. Seeing how the design of the air vents on other reviews, I now see that it does effect thermals in the long run. Intel versions might be just as hot unless there is a different design elements on that, though it is highly unlikely seeing my Dell 7567 also retains the same designed thermal vents. Still, it is not bad for what it's worth, just maybe better thermals design on next year's model, Dell?

    Hey Jarrod!
    I am not usually asking for help/suggestion, but now i am in front of buying my very first laptop, because I recently gratuated from high school and will continue my study at university. I would use the laptop only for gaming, and everyday activities like watching movies etc. (so no videomaking, 3D modelling and stuff). I had watched a lot of laptop reviews in the last week, and I have a general idea about what should I buy: a laptop under 1000$(I am from Romania, but the prices are about the same as in USA), with no, or just a little heating issues( I want the laptop to last like 4-5 years).
    So, I have found Y7000, ROG Strix G, Pavilion 15, Y540, IdeaPad L340, TUF FX505 and TUF A15 models under aproximatly 1000$. The specs would be i5 9300h, 16gb RAM and GTX 1650, and Ryzen 3550, 16gb RAM and GTX 1650 for the TUF laptops. My question is : which one should I buy? I am not expert in laptop stuffs, and I don't want my choice to be wrong.
    Thank you for reading this! 😊
