    Thank you for the reviews. Just got it today and loaded up Rift. Does 60+ fps at 1080p with no issues. Rift graphics are pretty demanding at max. Ran the FFXIV Benchmark and scored 10,102 at Maximum Graphics at 1080p fullscreen. FFXIV average frame rate was 73 FPS. Also thanks for the thermal video. It does run warm. I suggest a laptop cooler to possibly limit yourself from being throttled by thermals. I didn't test high performance mode and I probably won't ever use it. I'm good with 60fps+ at 1080p.
    Next on my list I guess would be to upgrade to a bigger SSD and max out the memory. Because of your reviews this was an instant purchase for me after researching it. The price was worth it. I purchased it online at Best Buy. It was the Dell G5 model number: I5505-A753GRY-PUS This was NOT the G5 Special Edition as reviewed in this video though. If you buy this laptop, make sure to boot it up, let windows install and the first thing you should do is get the latest BIOS from the dell website.

  • @user-oc1kn4ku8t
    @user-oc1kn4ku8t 4 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    The smartshift technology is a bit underwhelming here, compared to the advertised 10%+ performance gains due to automated optimization - and the one here, I don't see any good reasons to switch over 5600m when 2060 performs better. 5600m also uses 100 watts here and I see some people saying that It's better than 2060 in some cases. Pretty confused maybe because of the thermal issues or just a bios update will fix this? The price is good though ngl.
    Also asus TUF A15 or G15 is also a great choice but the damn screen and thermal issues due to design flaw is a game-breaking decision so maybe this dell or the upcoming HP omen with ryzen cpu is a good choice, will just wait for a bit.

    • @juzujuzu4555
      @juzujuzu4555 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Turing based GPUs have had 2 years to build driver optimizations. That's one area where AMD is going to become better over time, as they have proven time and time again. While Radeon GPU is 100W, I think it's because it's the smartshift number, so total power consumption does not increase.
      Price is the most important aspect though, otherwise why just not get the 2080 super version.
      Lets hope OEMs would bring more AMD models soon, as I have to buy new laptop in August-September and I would really want some affordable AMD laptop that can be used for gaming too.

    Hey Jarrod can you do a performance benchmark when using external monitors? I'm split between buying the G5 and A15. The G5, while it is great, it seems underwhelming compared to other laptops. But, it has a mini displayport which not all laptops, especially the A15, have. The A15 would've been ideal and perfect for me but I contacted ASUS and they told me the Type-C DisplayPort is connected to the iGPU rather than the DGPU. So if I was to connect to the Type-C DP will there be any performance drop off on the A15? Please I've been looking for answers no one really talks about this

    Oh yeah! Jarrod's including MHW in the game tests! I hope you can continue to use this game for your benchmarks. If I could make a suggestion, you could try to finish the game all the way up to the end game and try testing out the guiding lands for your testing. this game is stupidly taxing on pc I'd like to see how different laptops can handle this game. I'd say guiding lands is the best way to test MHW on laptops. Im also really curious to see the thermal performance on your testing using MHW Jarrod. Me and a friend of mine run at around 80-90 degrees C on the CPU when playing with our 8th gen laptops I wonder if newer laptops can handle this game better.

    -fan & backlighting control only through acer's "predatorsense" software

      @@jay-5061 No, or at least not just that, it's smart shift in action, at lower settings there is less load on the GPU and the CPU usually becomes the limiting factor, with the G5 that lightening of the GPU load allows it to give more power to the CPU.

    It is a nice video for reviewing dell g5 se. Since the stock thermal paste from dell is very very very bad so I think after repasting, the thermal will improve. For example, I bought del g5 5587(i7 8750h, gtx1060maxq) in August 2018 and just after I bought it, I played csgo and the thermal reaches 100 degree of Celsius but the clock speed still remains 3.9ghz and tdp still remains 50W. After repasting and undervolting, the thermal was always below 80. Now I still use it and I love it because it has red case. I also hope that you can review new dell alienware m15r3/m17r3 because they have vapor chamber and I want to know that whether thermal of these laptops improve or not. Thank you.
