Professional musicians and vocalists always geek out over the technical virtuosity of this performance. The group switches up singers and musicians. My wife and I attended a live show in which the only member of that show you saw here was the bass player.
Morgan honed her instrument as an opera major at Juilliard. Much the same as Avi Kaplan (former bass of Pentatonix, who was also an opera/classical voice major in college)), that training strengthened her voice and stretched her vocal range and sustain.
nice reaction guys... morgan james is an amazing singer and performer and fits perfectly with the postmodern jukebox family. she is very different than my favorite haley reinhart but exceptional in her own way. she is opera trained from julliard. this performance is stunning and her best one... imho. the string arrangement is also superb and i think is the same muscians and stage used in the pmj/haley cover "black hole sun". the way the guy on the cello plucks it like a guitar after her first run is super cool (never seen that before). 😎
Wow! This is my introduction to Postmodern Jukebox and to Morgan James, and this is stupendous! I only wish your little uploaded screen was bigger so that I could see what the string players were up to. Ms. James has a phenomenal voice, and the arrangement is amazing. So glad you found pmj on your own. Scott bradlee, the piano player makes all the arrangements and assembles the players and vocalists. It's always vintage style but always changing who the performers are outside of Scott
always love to see reactions, especially from musical professionals. PMJ has many talented performers, both singers and instrumentalists. It is worth browsing their catalog to experience the many performers and the variety of arrangement styles.

PMJ is a musical collective, so one organization with a bunch of different members. The one common thread is Scott Bradlee (on piano here) does all of the arrangements. PMJ tours with multiple "casts" of a people, so they can have two different tours going simultaneously. I saw their show in Jacksonville, FL last April and I think they had at least six different vocalists sing lead on different songs. They started out recording videos in Scott Bradlee's New York City apartment and first got noticed for their covers of Macklemore's "Thrift Shop" (grandpa style), and Miley Cyrus's "We Can't Stop" both featuring Scott Bradlee's girlfriend at the time, Robyn Adele Anderson. Bradlee decided to move PMJ's operation to LA, but Robyn wanted to stay in New York, so they stopped dating, but she still did a couple more tours with PMJ's live shows before striking out on her own arranging and singing popular songs in vintage styles very similar to PMJ (you should check out her cover "Master of Puppets"). In LA, Bradlee connected with American Idol alums Casey Abrams and Haley Reinhart who they took on their first European tour. While on tour in Europe, they re-recorded a cover of "Creep" by Radiohead featuring Haley that has over 100 million views on TH-cam and spent a very long time at the number 1 on Billboard's jazz charts. Anyway, Morgan James studied opera at Julliard and had a short stint on Broadway before she decided to focus on blues. I also think you should check out her PMJ debut, "Maps" (Maroon 5 cover) that was shot in a tiny living room. I'd really be interested in hearing an audio engineer's perspective on their earlier stuff as they were not in a studio and didn't have the arsenal of mics and instruments, but still managed to sound *way* better than anything I've ever recorded.
YES!! Morgan James is a beast.. She is the only singer who can sing Aretha's songs and not sound like a Karaoke song, I think, Check out Hayley Reinhard and Morgan James singing the Beatles "Dear Prudence"... soo soo good! No one seems to notice this, but all of Post Modern Jukebox's videos are done in a single take. Morgan James just stepped up to the mike and did this in one go. That makes it even more impressive. If you'd like another of her and Scott Bradley working together, look up Take Me To Church. Spine tingling..
Morgan’s version of Hallelujah is as must, as well as her take on Take me to Church. She is the most gifted singer PMJ uses, although Haley (the karaoke singer from AGT has a rabid following). Great stuff!
Morgan, as small as she is, is a literal BEAST of a vocalist!!! I suggest you react to her cover of Jeff Buckley's "Grace". It is a Master Class performance in Voice and Breath Control. Oh, and she WII NOT let her voice be manipulated (read autotuned) in post production. What you hear is _ her _!

Sometimes Scott isn't there. My wife and I saw them live, and the only member we'd seen before on any videos was the bass player.

PMJ is an ensemble band, but Scott Bradley is the anchor/founder doing the arrangements & piano most of the time.
