The number of people who have never heard Morgan sing is criminal. Particularly for contemporary American styles (Blues, Jazz, Soul) she is simply the best I've ever heard. Her covers of 'Take Me To Church', and 'Maps' are both insanely fantastic.
A couple of singers with PMJ that go under the radar but are worth a look are Sara Niemietz and Allison Young, the latter does a good cover of ELO's Mr Blue Sky. Also awayfrom the PMJ route check out 17yr old English girl Lucy Thomas she's an incredibly talented young woman.
I am so glad you finally got around 2 reacting to Morgan James and recognized her amazing talent!! I'm sure you know by now she was Julliard trained. I've known her since she was on Broadway and you won't find anyone that works harder than her, she still has vocal classes once a week. She has an Aurora-like quality of feeling and expressing the music throughout her whole body. You could tell by her vocal run and her movements at 2:22, the amount of commitment that she's going to put into this performance. That note that she hits at 4:55 and holds strong without even a touch of vibrato, I don't know if people actually understand how hard that is to do. (Same thing with that crescendo between 5:22 and 5:35) By the time she gets to 6:34 and then flips into her head voice at 6:38, you can really tell she's all in. If you haven't already, check out Morgan's TH-cam channel, which has a long series of videos that she did with her husband on guitar, called "Quaratunes." (They did one almost every day early in the pandemic, when everyone was largely stuck inside). They're brilliant in their simplicity. Also, there's an amazing video of Morgan and Haley together, in an acoustic version of "Dear Prudence" by the Beatles.
