I have his DVD, The Art And Science of Groove and in a bonus section he explains how he has some sheep hair put inside his floor tom and how he tunes his batter head pretty much just under finger tight. It probably also helps that he uses coated resonant heads on his toms since my impression is they tend to vibrate less than clear heads.
The greatest testament to Benny's playing is when Mark was playing his solo, I wasn't paying attention to Benny. Benny has chops when they are needed but when it's time to groove, he grooves! An outstanding musician as well as a drummer.

Knowing when to go freestyle, when to do long breaks, when to jam, when to groove, when to stand out, and when to (most of the time) just hold a steady reliable beat or pull yourself way into the background. I agree though, not all know this or know how to do it properly.

Just absolutely amazing display of technique, expressiveness and creativity. Benny does on this small setup what others can’t do on a much larger setup. He is a testament to the phrase more is less. I truly enjoyed this performance!
James Burgess I totally agree! Maybe one day he'll give us a DVD on tasty licks or concepts. Science of groove and language of drumming are great DVDs.

I’ve been a fan of this series since it began and have watched many fantastic performances thanks to it, I’ve watched this one in particular at least 20 times and it’s amazing without a doubt. But the thing that brings me back to this series so much is the amount of fun everyone seems to have doing their thing, it’s infectious and you can’t help but feel that fun come your way, whether it be through your computer, your phone or whatever. Top class musicianship and entertainment.
Every time a drummer hits the shells with the stick my gear-nerd-heart bleeds on the other hand there's the fact, that it's just such a nice sound effect. holy my.
