My first exposure to the otherworldly drumming capability of this man was when I stumbled upon the Snarky Puppy "Lingus" video a few years ago. My mind was blown and not only did it make me a huge Larnell Lewis fan, but it was also my first exposure to Snarky Puppy. I thank whatever Gods were looking down on me that day because I've found so much more incredible music since then that I would have never known even existed. This video is one of them, too. Had the TH-cam algorithm not known I was already into Snarky Puppy and had searched other Larnell videos, this would not have been recommended to me. My only regret about this whole thing is that these Zildjian/Ghost-Note drummer showcase videos were recorded in a studio not far from where I live. I would have never made the invite list, and probably wouldn't have found a way in, but I would have like to have tried, dammit!
This is one of those legendary performances that every musician returns to watch from time to time... I really don't know how many times I've been here.
Exactly. This video is a standard of mastery to listen to on literally every instrument! Drums, ,percussion, bass guitar, keys, lead guitar. I never get tired of listening to this.
Okay but come on... can we just talk about how beautifully and subtly Nate Werth (percussionist) compliments Larnell here (as well as every other drummer he works with)!! Sneakily filling the space at 6:07, getting that drop with Larnell at 6:34, adding to the Latin-esque groove at 7:00, and most importantly never getting in the way or playing when he doesn't need to be!! Awesome musicianship.
This was the last piece of music I shared with my grandpa. Unable to leave his bed let alone spend time in his room with 31 guitars, he replied, “Amazing!!!” In the weeks leading to his passing, this became my all-time favorite music performance. Now, months later listening to it again for the first time, I’m reminded of the never-ending and inexplicably positive influence, not just musically, that he had on me. I have a whole life in front of me, and I know he’d want me to keep enjoying this piece - so that’s what I’ll do. Thank you all for this incredible, incredible piece of music.

Larnell's ability to use exactly what's needed for the desired effect is so impressive. I'm not even a drummer but his drumming is so impressive that I love specifically listening to the way he adds to the music, especially We Like It Here by Snarky Puppy. Perfection.
I just want to highlight the amount of Ego Control Larnell displays performing in a room full of other amazing drummers playing that “simple” groove from the verse, faithfully staying in the pocket letting the song/melody shine for what it is without trying to impress anyone, but enjoying the moment. Killer man, just killer!
I simply love how these musicians translate the emotions and happines they themselves feel when playing their instruments, they can't stop bobbing their heads, smile but you can see and feel the concentration through the complexity of the track. Pure music from the soul.
If I had to pick just one favourite moment, it’d have to be when the guy on percussion does his shaker thing at @3:28 - you can see the joy in his face in that one action. Enjoying playing music to the highest level. It doesn’t matter how seemingly small/insignificant your part feels - just live the little things ❤️
Every single time I watch this video... and I have literally seen it over a dozen times... I am AMAZED by this drummer! He does things by instinct that most drummers wouldn't imagine... FLAWLESSLY!!!

The story of Larnell Lewis learning and playing for Snarky Puppy is something you normally hear in parables and fables. Larnell: “Gives humble laugh” with a hand shake
I LOVE IT!!! 😂😂😂
E 757 I had no words 🤣🤣🤣 🤷🏿♂️
Larnell Lewis Music hey larnell is there anywhere i can get a drumless track for this song?
The thumbs down were people that play a different brand of cymbals....... Thank you Larnel and Zildjian 🔥🔥🔥
AND that's why Jazz drummers are the best drummers on the planet!!!
You know your a great musician and person when you get that kind of love from a lot of other great musicians. Respect to Larnell Lewis!
THIS DRUM SOLO HAS ME LIKE.... "I HAD NO IDEA DRUMS COULD TALK!" MR LEWIS! NUFF PROPS FROM ST.KITTS MAN... WE'RE HERE LISTENING!!!! BLESS
dude you right i like larnell he is fantastic like a super pro drummer
From a drummer to another - He's grooving so hard, it's amazing. Not over the top, he listen to the music and emphasise parts that needs it. It's so delicate.
I agree whole heartily- and I’m not a drummer!!!! I love the look of sheer joy on his face. Such musical conviction and intention throughout his playing. I know why I keep coming back to watch this- it makes me glad to be alive.♥️♥️♥️👍🏻🔥
When Larnell plays you know everyone is going to catch a smile
The joy in people's faces is brighter than my country😀😀😀
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
When music is played for the love of music, with this level of skill, technique, and professionalism, there is joy.
If heaven dont have Larnell playing drums, i dont wanna go...... Period.
4:25 where it opens up gives me chills
OH MY LORD!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Literally the best thing I have watched/listened to in a long time. The chemistry, musicality, and phrasing is incredible. I literally hit the stop and rewind button so many times just hear the sauce Larnell was bringing. Time to hear it again straight through (I'm probably kidding myself with that statement) LOL. Killer man, just killer!
Do u all realize that this is Juan Carlito Mendoza????
@@howarddelosreyes463 they don't ...
absolutely agree. watched it yesterday for the first time. and since then about 20x. it's so good...
The whole thing is ON FIRE my man. Words can't do it man, they jus't CAN'T.
Watch Larnell Lewis with Snarky Puppy. You'd be amazed with his drum skill and the freakin awesome Snarky Puppy band.
He just had to put some salt on it lol
yessss
Every single time I watch this video... and I have literally seen it over a dozen times... I am AMAZED by this drummer! He does things by instinct that most drummers wouldn't imagine... FLAWLESSLY!!!
The sheer level of musicality in this is mind boggling. Wow
6:06 crazy hihat sound effect...👋👋from Argentina!!
That bassist looks like he came out of a Dr. Suess book but damn is he naaaasty.
Mononeon is awsome
As expected from a bassist that played with Prince!
He kinda looks like spike lee
6:16 how he hits the top of the cymbal stands with that accuracy and dynamics always get me. And apparently, the crowd was blown away as me too.
True definition of locked in. Everyone on point!
wow am speechless , especially that kick technique similar like jojo mayer technique
Jojo Mayer didn't create that technique. Steve Gadd was doing that technique in the 70's. I am not saying he created it, but Jojo devinitely didn't.
Chris Spencer how would you explain the technique?
Chris Spencer he didnt say Jojo Mayer created it. He said it was similar.
Jojo? But larnell is like 10 times better than him! that's the only reason i'd bother to mention his name after watching one of larnell's tastiest performances ever.
Dik Beats No!! you got to get your ears checked there,fella!!....Jojo
Mayer is a world class player!!
You don’t know WTF your talking about there, junior!!
MonoNeon should be more recognized. Dude is literally the backbone of every performance!
Found out about him recently he is unbelievable then the dude gets on the keys and guitar too. He is a legend
*Mono* is definitely one of those fine players that *Davie504* just can't mess with.
@SonneMond102 davie is mainly a youtuber, not a full time musician, dont compare them both man
@@nipulkradmsinatagras8293 I mean who could?
who is mononeon? is it someone in the video? they should put a nametag on themselves or something XD
5 years and still watching this masterpiece! 😁🔥🎉
The story of Larnell Lewis learning and playing for Snarky Puppy is something you normally hear in parables and fables. The work he's done to etch his mark on drumming and to provide an example of how to approach musicianship is something that needs to be lauded in every school of music. This man has an intellect that humbles most people and a work ethic that outright embarrasses most people. Good God, Larnell.
At 0:30 is officially the best fill I have ever heard.
Larnell, so humble. Comes through in your music. Watched this again and again. Brings so much joy to see how much fun you're having. I'm an injured drummer who's not been able to play for the last two years. Hurts every day and in spite of that I still cannot stop watching you play with your various projects. Inspired.
Ist das nicht immer fantastisch, wie viele tolle und kreative Musiker es gibt. Chapeau an die komplette Band. Liebe Grüße aus Koblenz Christoph 👋 👋 👋 👋 👋
You know you’re out there when the worlds best musicians react like teen fans to your playing
He did an 8-stroke on a single kick at that bpm, no lag. DAMN. 4:14
This video got me hooked with this fantastic simple fill at 0:28
Edit: that bass lick!!! 2:38
You better believe in MonoNeon or your sins are not forgiven
I gotta come back once a year to watch. Brilliance. The fill that happens around the 0:30 mark lives in my brain rent free.
I’ve watch this all of 30 times ... what a masterpiece of artistic expression
6:06 He reversed Hi-Hats playback! Brilliant!
Holy crap! How do you even do that?!
@@davisginn1298 i tried this before it's just slicing your hats with your stick in vertical position then opening the hats gradually. Mine's still not sounding clean like that tho hahaha
@@menudongsago Haha yeah that makes sense but damn! Super clean
Looks like timetravel to me
this is soooooo matured. i could hear every intention not rough at all. soo clean drum displayed.
I love how, to the untrained eye, Larnell over there taking it easy while the bassist fighting for his life.
Nah MONO got this😂
Appart from Larnell being a beast on the drums, the keyboard solo by henry vkeys needs to be acknowledged, amazing.
That was just filthy ...He killed them drums!! Whole band is sick!
Man these my PEOPLE... period. What a killer environment.
Honestly, I can't get over this video. Can't count how many times I've seen this.
