thank you all so much for your kind comments! we all know those are big shoes to fill , but as always all you can do is doing your thing as good as you can , while respecting the heritage....thank you for understanding that. gonna upload another one now :-) have a great day everyone.
What Buddy Rich always supported the most were indivudual Players who kept true to their own styles (he was a strong supporter of Steve Gadd), and thats what you did on this! Hell yeah man, lovin' it!
I have been listening you for 10 years here. I do not rank drummers as best or worst; I just enjoy your work over any other. I still listen to Chris Coleman and Simon Phillips, to Aaron Spears and Dennis Chambers. But prefer to listen to you. Keep doing what you do and feel free to grow. Make lots of money and live long, Benny.
When I saw and heard BENNY GREB play for the first time. It really blew my mind. I hadn’t seen anything like that ever before in my life and I didn’t understand anything he was doing. But I understood that I really really like this. ❤️ lol Anyways, Buddy and Benny are both sooo incredible. Thanks for the inspiration man!
However, some higher tunings and higher pitched cymbals, particularly the ride, may have cut through a bit better. No argument 'cuz I loved this....just an observation.
@@hawkrider88 Maybe a little higher, but I think that with considerably higher tuning in a big band setting, the articulation gets lost. Normally small ensemble jazz is higher tuning, and big band is a little lower.
I don’t think I’ve ever heard a drummer with a better feel and approach than this. He plays perfect without sounding robotic, in the pocket while shining and playing complex sticking, and constantly changes the approach to the same groove as if the previous beat was just a lapse in time until the next one came to mind. A+ playing
From 1:47 to 2:18 he put on CLINIC!!!!!!! From everything to when he switched up the groove, kept the snare hits constant with the trumpets, took out the kick in certain, etc. Just pure genius! Sure the musicians in this band love playing with you lol.
you can tell how much love people have for Benny that even when he plays Buddy's music his own way there are still no thumbs down. Thats Awesome! Sounds so good can't wait for the next video.
This is amazing to see: two different player styles merged into one. Two different techniques, mindsets, eras and music. To play in such a big band concert, filling Buddy's shoes must be one a huge honor. Great job Benny.
The Mercy mercy album changed my life back in junior high in the late 90's. The guy was a genuine master, and Neil's burning for buddy project was such a beautiful celebration of man's career that will forever impact the way we play drums, much like this performance. Thanks for honoring him on stage, I'm have no doubt he would have only yelled at you a little about coping all Gregg Bissonette's best licks haha
I’m flabbergasted .........I saw Buddy Rich live in 1983 ... even met him ..autograph ...shook his hand ....I wanted to burn my sticks ...It hurts me now that I never embraced jazz like I should of . I was playing the club Circuit. Big clubs small clubs holiday Inns....you know....but seeing this .....God I think I’m hooked !!! You are phenomenal my friend ...Thank You !!
No one feels the music and expresses his emotions and feel through the kit like Benny. Such a world class musician. I can watch him play for days. His creativity, originality, technique, dynamics, chops, groove and stick control is unmatched.
I don’t think we quite understand how next-level this is. This dude might pull drumming into the next evolution the previous great helped us aspire to be!
Out of all the drummers (and there are quite a few great ones!) who try and play the Buddy Rich charts, you sir really do this justice! I saw Mr. Rich perform dozens of times and always left me in awe. He would be very proud and impressed with this rendition in your own great style. Wonderful Mr. Greb.
Beautifully done by all!! Benny, could this be a possible future full concert DVD? All the best my friend and thanks for sharing your passion and knowledge!
Wooooahhhouuuu !!!! you are the best Benny !!! ;) It's weird to see you in a suit and tie XD What a pleasure you must have had to play with an orchestra !! I would love to live this one day...
Lol I was making the same face as the guitar player at 3:55 . Excellent work as always, Benny. I've been waiting for these videos for a long time. Can't wait to see more!
It's too bad that Buddy was such an arse all of the time to other people. He's one of the best players of all time (if not *the* best) and yet, he could never seem to compliment anyone without pointing out some major flaw as well. His whole campaign against matched grip was probably the most short-sighted opinion that he had. I'm not a betting man, but if I were I would be willing to put down a decent amount of money that if Buddy *listened* to somebody like Benny play, he would have nothing but praise. However, if it was a video or live performance, he would never get over the matched grip thing to the point he would probably even claim that Benny is a bad drummer. I, for one, will always love Benny's playing. There's nothing better to start my mornings than a nice cup of coffee and a slice of grebfruit.
Great band! And to be the drummer on a Buddy tribute concert? No pressure, right. The drummer did a great job - long sticks and everything. And his bass drum work? Buddy's signature style of putting bass drum hits in between hits of the band. Wow. Buddy was a master of the bass drum and THE WHOLE EFFING DRUM SET.
thank you all so much for your kind comments! we all know those are big shoes to fill , but as always all you can do is doing your thing as good as you can , while respecting the heritage....thank you for understanding that. gonna upload another one now :-) have a great day everyone.
Benny Greb playing, drums, audio quality all sound amazing!
Hey Benny Greb, what main ride cymbal and crash cymbal did you use for this concert?

are you sure youre not just a young john scofield that decided to shave his head?
I love how benny went full benny and added lowkey metal fills to the piece. Excellent.
This is where he got it from:

Well said Chris! :)
Couldn't agree more!
I was thinking about this exact thing as i was watching that part.
Perfect reply Chris.
Same here, when my 13 year old self saw hin in Münster Germany, I was blown away. Just another level of musicallity and groove...
I'm glad you didn't shy away from being yourself on the kit! You and Buddy are both so distinctive players.
1:25, he and the band so tight with each other I got a dopamine hit hearing it!
i love how benny still kept with his signature drum sounds rather than some crazy high tunings...
However, some higher tunings and higher pitched cymbals, particularly the ride, may have cut through a bit better. No argument 'cuz I loved this....just an observation.

Benny!!!!! Awsome!!! You killed it!!!!! Nice Job!!! Just sounds soooooooo amazing!!! Thanks for it!!
Benny keeping this great music alive and exposing it to the new generation.
Well done, sir!

The three hits at 0:47 have got to be the smoothest yet sickest hits I've ever heard in a song. The slight delay in the third hit is just perfection!
WHAAAAAT A DAMN GEORGOUS SOUND!!!! i cant stop watching this... absolutely insane this whole orchestra...
He played that song on his way & style . . . Thank you, Benny . . .
man. by far the best drummer in my opinion. benny greb is something else

Wow.
Simply wow.
That's how to swing a Buddy Rich tune!

One of the most musical drummers playing today
Was lucky enough to be at this concert. His playing was flawless throughout.
I could watch Benny play any style any song whatever and still be in that same awe. He's the top notch of drumming and just a real professional.
fantastique !
i love jazz and Buddy Rich too, and seeing such a master at drums play these pieces is truly amazing, thanks Benny...
This my first year in a big band and I’m playing this song as well. Thank you Benny for a great blueprint and fresh take!!
Benny Greb! You’re such a masterful drummer. Love watching this - you play this so incredibly! 😂😂
Benny's playing is outstanding. His drum and cymbal sounds are impeccable! That floor tom!!!!
One of the reasons that I love to see drummers playing with Buddy Rich Big Band is seeing them playing in a suit you won't see every day. :-)
This is awesome. I could watch this guy play all day.
Amazing to hear this great artist interpreted through a contemporary lens. Beautifully done, Bro!
Oh, how delicious it sounds! It's AMAZING!!! Benny, bravo!
So unusual seeing a modern day drummer, using such a minimalistic kit..
Brilliant..!

31 dislikes...really? I thought it was totally brilliant.
Bennys own slant on it and why not...love it!
Beautifully done by all!!
Benny, could this be a possible future full concert DVD?
All the best my friend and thanks for sharing your passion and knowledge!

Perhaps one will be released...it would be pretty sweet! Take care Keane!! :)

The sound of Benny is amazing!!
Very Good good drummer! Thank for that!!

this is a masterpiece.Benny played it perfectly
Benny, this was amazing my friend. You are amazing.
All I can say is, thank you so much!!
this is a tremendous madnes!!!!!!!! Amazing 🤩
I love how you took the tune and made it your own while still respecting Buddy's voice throughout. Masterful job.
Excellent as always, and I think Buddy would have loved it too...though he may have mocked you for playing matched grip. :)

FANTASTIC ........ Everything ..... Alles Gut
Playing Big Band Jazz just makes me want to put on a suit and drink cognac. The snare drum and crash cymbals are everything. Great job.
Wow!! Beautiful playing!! Tasteful and really swinging!! 👍🏻😎
Impeccable ! Juste ce qu'il faut où il faut.
Really!!?!?!?!? Wow.....fantastic. Benny + buddy rich orchestra? Oooohhh yeeeeees .
I love
Very beautifully done! Very unique and a pleasure to listen to.

Really awesome how you swing, how you're precise, how you put just the right amount of fills and embellishements, really tastefull, bravo !
Very tasty, cool fills and some real swing.
Beautiful!
Huuuuuge sound and immense playing, well done!!!
un MAESTRO Benny Grebb, un groove increíble, toque el estilo que toque es de lo mejor, sin dudas
Really nice production. Makes you feel very much like you're in the room, listening to it live. :-)
Absolutely fantastic
Great groove, so nice to hear you sit clean with the band! Gah, I can't wait till I can play time with that much personality haha
Kudos to Sound engineer. What a great performance it is.... Let me go back to practice.
How can you not like this??
Loved this just like I loved Two Day Trio. Jazz drums just sound so good!
🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Adam Tuminaro I see you in the credits my dude!
Adam Tuminaro hey buddy
What was cut at 2:54 - 55?
Hey! It's the new Buddy Rich. Congratulations man! I love this music.
Oooo Men this its a delicious song 🙌🏻
It reminded me so much of Greg Bissonette's performance at Memorial Buddy Rich !!!
It ought to, pretty much the same licks verbatim.
I love your groove!
Really wonderful job Benny!
Killin’ , BIG UP!
And what a nice tune this is.
Beautifully played
Magnifique interprétation...!
Loved this performance, you should definitely upload that crazy, insane and awesome solo that you did during this performance very inspiring
