The "thud" comes from doubling the tom with the bass drum (I think).

Wtf.. drum solo that is engaging and not boring at all? Whoa there!
It took these guys ten minutes to get where everyone else would start. It's a great example of how not to "blow your load" in the first thirty seconds of a solo.
2 reasons why this comment now:

2) This reminds me of In the Air Tonight by Phil Collins
No ego. Simply two percussive geniuses creating rhythm.
Jojo holding down those brushes in the beginning was awesome.

I just loved how comfortable these guys are in their skins. They have nothing to prove, no-one to impress and as a result they were just free to create and flow in the moment. Thanks for a sublime 14 minutes guys.
This is how you listen to each other. They were both so generous and handed it back and forth. Lots of supporting each other. Great musicians.

In an age where “Drum Solos” are abundant, this performance leaps out! It took me on a journey, showing beautiful dynamic and rhythmic landscapes. I can honestly say, that was as close to perfection as it can get. Inspiring beyond belief. Thank you soo much for share Benny.

Yeeeees! @@ajdrums8075. Thank you soo much for that valuable insight. The fact it's a "duet" is and not a "solo" is why it was soo good. Not the masterful playing and musicality of these 2 particular players. I'm sure I would have appreciated it just as much had it been any other drummers performing, so long, of course, it was a "duet" and not a solo. Please disregard my former comment as from your superior observation was purely based on the idea of a solo improvision and clearly does not apply in this circumstance.

Feel free to send a link to a solo from either of these master drummers that sound better than this duet? I don't know of any. Why? Because you can't layer the sounds and ideas like this duet as a soloist even if you have Donati like independence and interdependence.

definitely a gorgeous capture of how top musicians see and hear one another; it's lovely to watch the comfort of their interchange become more apparent as they play...also, massive shout out to the hands and engineers what make the actual music with all its rich tonalities come to life.

That was absolutely incredible. Both Grebb and Mayer played with so much groove and creativity not covering each other up once but accenting each other.
The phrase starting at 11:44 is my favorite, ending in the bell if the ride. Love that so much.

There were parts of this that felt like they could be used in a movie score. No other instruments would be necessary either.

I could listen to a whole album’s worth of this. Their pockets are so unbelievably deep and tasteful.
This the simply the best example of double drumming that has ever been. When Jojo played the ghosts to flam Benny’s Tom hits, well that’s a level of simpatico hive mind that I’m not sure I’ve ever seen. So locked. So much music in this.
I love the drumsound of Benny Mayer but Jojo Grebs is also very nice! Its so cool how their signiture sounds and grooves combine

Did I just watch a 13 minute ad for Sonor drums?! They sound incredible.... and not many drum brands would hold up their end of the deal for this level of masterful playing
All the major brands would do just fine.
@@farshimelt while I’ve seen Benny make a toy SpongeBob kit sound passable before, Sonor really is a cut above the rest. Germans don’t fuck around, and they’re one of the very oldest drum companies in existence. Lots of time to perfect their quality and sound. Chris Heuer (incredible drum builder/ guru who fixes and spruces up kits so they sound their absolute best) has gone on record as saying Sonor is the only brand that he has never found a bearing edge issue with straight from the factory.

My two biggest idols in drumming. Each with such different sound and style. Love how real this feels because of the improvisation!
Two phenomenal musicians, so in sync. Creative and technical. So inspiring! Saw you at a drum workshop in NZ back in 2008 or so. Still watching, admiring and learning. Jojo is a new introduction to me but also incredible.
The thing is that these two dudes fill every single note with meaning. That's why it's interesting to listen to them.
Two of the best drummers Europe came up with the last 15-20 years. Beside Marco Minnemann and Thomas Lang. Very inspirational.

Greb has got to have the most amazing ability to tune floor toms I have ever heard. He gets the exact same note out of seemingly any floor tom he touches.

Wow. Just ... Wow. One could almost get the impression that one is listening to things us mere mortals might just be able to pull off, but then you REALLY listen to all the finer notes and concepts and realize rather quickly: Nope, not a chance. And THEN you watch these two playing that stuff, riffing off of each other, thowing ideas back and forth, taking the other one's ball and running with it, communicating with each other, and all the while grinning more broadly by the bar. I could watch these two masters do that for hours. Thank you so much for sharing this with the world, gentlemen.
